25 Falling-in-Love, Fall Date Ideas

25 Falling-in-Love, Fall Date Ideas

I’m not sure when it hit me.

But I think it was while we were sitting by the Blue River and simply holding hands.

Not talking and not even really thinking.

Just loving each other.

It was our anniversary and he’d surprised me with a few days in a quiet cabin tucked into the woods.

And you want to know something about that time we had together?

The Most Important Ingredient in Family Relationships

The Most Important Ingredient in Family Relationships

When someone asks me, “What do you think is the most important ingredient in the family?

I quickly respond: forgiveness.

It also might be the most difficult.

I can’t count the number of times over the years that I’ve had to go to my husband or my children and say, “Honey, I shouldn’t have said what I did, or I shouldn’t have done what I did and I need to ask you to forgive me.

Finding Faith…When You Find Yourself in the Middle of Impossible

Finding Faith…When You Find Yourself in the Middle of Impossible

Some stories are just too good to be true.

Others are too tragic to even fathom.

But some stories . . . some stories are such an incredible mix of hard and raw and beautiful that they can only come from God.

And that would be the kind of story behind Jennifer Ebenhack’s newly-released memoir. A gripping, heart-breaking, hope-filled story of love and sacrifice that somehow miraculously swirls together on the sun-scorched sands of Haiti.

Overcoming Fear: Strength and Courage for the Chicken-Hearted

Overcoming Fear: Strength and Courage for the Chicken-Hearted

I have one great fear.

I am terrified that something might happen to Joe and myself and that my kids will end up living in a boxcar in some field. This fear lays dormant until it’s time for Joe and me to travel together. This year that included, Michigan, Florida, and in the fall, New Zealand. My imagination can go crazy with “what if” scenarios. It will wake me up in the middle of the night in a near panic and it can bring tears to my eyes during the day.

Fabulous Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Fabulous Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

I’ve got to be honest, I’m not the handiest person.

I can’t build anything, I don’t sew (though my mom tried desperately to get me interested in it), and I’m not artistic AT ALL!

When my church decided that this was going to be the summer that we repainted the entire church because it had been 15 years since the last repainting job (and our church is kind of…long), I kind of sucked in a deep breath and let it out with dread.

Making Time to Unpack the Truths of Scripture for Your Family {and Giveaway}

Making Time to Unpack the Truths of Scripture for Your Family {and Giveaway}

I’ve been a mom for almost 14 years and married for almost 24; therefore, I’ve been cooking (meaning beyond the bags of ramen noodles and boxes of mac and cheese) for almost a quarter of a century. But until just a few weeks ago I had never used my oven’s broiler.

True story.

A friend was giving me instructions on how to recreate her amazing crusty bread/tomato-basil/goat cheese recipe, and she threw in the directive “broil.” With a completely straight face, I said, “I don’t even know what that means.” She giggled.

How to Raise A Good Son in A Decaying Culture

How to Raise A Good Son in A Decaying Culture

Occasionally I freaked out –when I thought of the availability of porn and read about Ashley Madison and looked at the sexual safety posters hanging in my daughter’s dorm.

I was supposed to run my son through this cultural gauntlet and have him turn out to be a fine and upstanding man?

Made my knees shake in fear on more than one occasion.

Did you know there is a book in the Bible written just for young men, to help them make good choices?

{Where to Start} When There Seems To Be No Give

{Where to Start} When There Seems To Be No Give

There has always been something.

To set me apart, to make me feel different, to weigh me down in a way that I was sure that other light-footed women weren’t and to remind me that an invigorating life (the kind that fills your lungs yet leaves you with space for more) evades me.

I’d find myself thinking: why does this always happen to me, as I looked at women who sailed through life’s mile-markers with poise and sassy shoes and advice for the rest of us who couldn’t or didn’t.

6 Series of Books Christian Teen Girls Will Love {and their moms too}

6 Series of Books Christian Teen Girls Will Love {and their moms too}

There’s nothing sadder for a bibliophile than coming to the end of a good book.

I’m always reluctant to turn to the last page, knowing I have to say goodbye to the characters who had become my new best friends.

It is always with great anticipation then, that I embark upon an entire series. Because in a series I have the delicious promise of many more hours in the company of carefully crafted characters.
