One Surefire Way to Know You’re Doing This Parenting-Thing Right
I went off to sleep in my usual style.
Slipped under the covers. Snuggled up against my man.
And crashed.
My sleeping technique is rather simple these days. You might call it the Totally-Exhausted-Mom Technique.
Or maybe the I-Can’t-Keep-My-Eyes-Open-Any-Longer approach.
Whatever you call it, this mom knows how to crash. And she likes to stay that way for as long as possible.
But then something happened the other night soon after I’d fallen into a deep sleep.

Slow-Cooker Sweet Potato & Butternut Squash Soup
It’s cold and flu season (in case you hadn’t noticed), and last week it hit our house and two of my three kiddos. It hasn’t been fun, but at least they have seemed to recover pretty quickly.
I hate seeing my kids sick. It’s the worst!
I don’t know a parent out there that wouldn’t mind trading places with their kids so that they could take away their pain.

Our Favorite Christmas Books {You May Not Have On Your Shelf}
I’m the kind of person who puts off decorating for Christmas until the very last minute. (And if we’re going “over the river and through the woods” to my parents’ house, I usually end up deciding that the nativity scene is the one and only Christmas box we’re going to unpack for the year.)
But we have more Christmas books than there are days of Advent.
And I’m always sad that we never have time to read them all between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

If You Want to Get Along (Better) With Your In-Laws
I liked her from the very first.
She was strong, straight-forward, and no-nonsense. A real pioneer woman. Hard-working and resolute. My husband’s mother welcomed me into the family with few questions asked.
We got along just fine, she and I.
Because of dad’s heart trouble, we invited her and dad to move in with us. That would be nearly 17 years ago now.
And we’ve been through a lot together since then.

In This Home, We Give Thanks: The Attitude That Changes Everything {& Giveaway}
I don’t remember exactly when it started, or even why.
But I got into the habit of making up these games when I was a young girl.
Well, they weren’t really “games” but that’s what I called them and it was my way of encouraging myself to do what was right…even when I didn’t necessarily feel like it.
And for some reason, it kind of worked.
Not always, but often.

The Words Your Child Is Longing to Hear
I grew up with a Dad who was both physically and verbally affectionate.
A quiet man by nature, he was in my child’s eyes a rock of security.
Firm with discipline, yet generous in love.
I was the eldest of four strong-willed kids and I was tough to raise—bossy, opinionated, sassy, and frequently in trouble.
Once I shot a neighborhood boy with a friend’s “bb gun” simply because I didn’t like him!

The 7 Best Things Made With Pumpkin
There’s something that I feel you should know about me.
You know, before we get much farther into our friendship.
Are you ready for this?
I love pumpkin.
All things pumpkin.
I’m crazy for pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, and (you know what’s coming, don’t you?)….PUMPKIN SPICED LATTES.
Whew.
It feels better just getting that out there.
Ha!

5 Mind-Blowing Truths to Defeat the Whispers of Weakness
The events of the day have exhausted you.
After cooking dinner, reviewing schoolwork, two phone calls, 10 emails and finishing up the dishes, oh, and just a little more laundry, you finally have a moment to breathe.
Circumstances seem to be out of control lately. A sick loved one, an unanticipated car repair, you name it, life is moving quickly and you’re just trying to keep up.
