How Do You Show Value for Your Child’s Voice?
Have you ever heard yourself talk and listening to it made you cringe?
I have.
Except, most recently I wasn’t actually the one talking.
I heard myself in a stranger. A fellow mom of girls.
I recently sat next to her as we both hustled through afterschool responsibilities with our daughters. She was tired and there were endless amounts of homework to be done.

How to Keep Your Marriage Together When The World Is Falling Apart
Do you ever worry? Or at least wonder?
That’s what I asked her over our dinner together.
But my friend seemed surprised at my question. Not sure what I was exactly asking.
So I elaborated.
Do you ever have any concerns about your marriage? You know, with everything that’s been happening lately? All the bad news and marriages that appear to be falling apart everywhere?

Pumpkin Thumbprints: A Great Cookie to Welcome the Changing of the Seasons
I’ve been thinking lately about serving.
As wives and moms, we’re no stranger to the word serving. We do it all day long. Whether we’re changing diapers, potty training, bathing babies, ironing clothes (Okay, I don’t actually iron. But our dry cleaner does. Thank goodness.), cleaning bathrooms, or fixing meals – all day long we’re serving others.
Sometimes, we can look at these things we’re doing as chores. Something to just check off before moving on to the next item on our “To Do” list and because we see it as something that has to be done, instead of something that benefits others, we look at it begrudgingly.

How Big Is Your God?
One morning, at an orphanage in England, children sat down for their breakfast, except there was no food on their plates.
There was no food on the table or in the kitchen. The children bowed their heads and a man began to pray, “Dear Father, we thank you for what you are going to give us to eat.”
It wasn’t long after this prayer that breakfast was indeed provided to these children through a baker who couldn’t sleep that night and baked a bunch of bread for them and a milkman whose cart broke down close to the orphanage and donated his milk to the children.
Learning to Love the Essential Skills of Homemaking
I didn’t grow up learning how to run and manage a home.
My mother was an excellent cook and took care of her household well, but I didn’t take the time to learn from her. I didn’t realize how essential those skills would become before I even turned 20.
When my husband and I got married at the ripe old age of 19, I suddenly found myself caring for a small apartment, grocery shopping, figuring out how to make meals, nurture a marriage…and I felt totally lost!

What If We Teach Our Daughters to Be Ladylike?
I was sitting at a table next to a sweet friend who is 20-something, and we were working on a service project together. I was actually using a pair of scissors and felt almost crafty for a moment.
Talk turned to bridal showers, and when you’re 20-something you attend a lot of these. My friend was telling me about a new trend.
It’s alarming to me, so may we chat about it here?

My Top Five Tips to Help You Out With Homemaking
She told me that she remembers it well.
My friend – more like my mom’s friend – said she can still picture me as a young girl walking around with my duster in one hand . . . and my nose buried in a book in my other. Dusting the bookshelves without ever glancing up from my own reading.
My idea of “doing my chores.”
This explains a lot of things really.

How to Make A Perfect Centerpiece for Every Holiday
I never get tired of the magazines that show me pretty pictures of set tables.
I recognize this longing in my womanly heart, to sit down at a dinner where the hostess has used chargers under the plates. I love those homemade place cards where my name is written in beautiful script. The silverware is perfectly set, with the tip of the knife almost touching the goblet and the fork resting on a pretty napkin.

The God Who Hears {When You Desperately Need a Listener}
Sometimes you just want someone to listen.
Not fix. Not advise. Just listen.
Listen long enough to “get it.” To simply feel what you’re feeling right along with you.
I can’t count the times I’ve gone through my mental list… Who could I call? Who would be willing to just be here in this place with me?
And sometimes as I’ve gone through the list I’ve come up empty-handed.

What Your Husband Only Wishes {But Can’t Seem to Say}
*The following is a true story. A real conversation that took place between him and me. I still cringe when I think about it, but marriage can be like that—at least our marriage can be. Because sometimes the truth is hard to hear. ~ Lisa
It all began in a cafe.
Like so many of the meaningful moments in my life. He and I were sitting together over a grande latte in the newly-opened Starbucks at the Green Hills Mall.
