What Marriage Taught Me About Love, Courage, and A Little Homemade Bread
You could tell it came as something of a surprise.
I mean, that I’d even consider attempting the thing at all.
Everyone knew how utterly inept I was in the kitchen. So this announcement was rather unlike me and his astonishment was understandable.
I had decided to bake bread.
Real bread. With wheat kernels, yeast, oil and salt. Starting from scratch and made with my own hands.

Well girls, I’m almost 47 and both kids out of the house, and I think I’m finally starting to get the hang of this meal thing.

12 Books To Help You With That Fresh Start
It took me almost 30 years to realize that New Year’s resolutions don’t work for me.
Every year, I’d make a resolution of some sort, and every year, I’d feel like a failure before January was over.
So instead of New Year’s resolutions, I choose books—old and new—to read for the New Year. Sometimes, I plan my book list carefully based upon what I want to learn and improve on.

25 Warm-Your-Heart Winter Date Ideas
I don’t think anyone ever really means for their love to grow cold.
And I’m not saying that ours is any chillier than when we first began.
Over twenty-three years ago.
But I will tell you that we find ourselves emerging from a very challenging season. And maybe you know what that’s like?
And I say “emerging” although that’s a rather optimistic statement considering not much has changed.

A Wise Word to The Mom With Boys
A friend sent out a text, inviting several of us to a girls’ night at her house.
With that, she made us promise we wouldn’t look at her toilets, well, because of her boys and all.
I could not believe the volley of return texting that immediately followed her message. All these moms of boys had a lot to say about understanding what it means to have constant yellow drips on and around the toilet, especially my friend who has six menfolk in her house.

5 Tips for When He Is Wrong and You’re In the Right
If he would just listen to me – really hear me out – then we could be done with this argument and move on with our life!
Ever been there? Ever had those kind of thoughts?
I would venture to say we have all found ourselves in the position where we knew for a fact we were right and our husbands were wrong. If you’re like me, sometimes you want to grab him by the shoulders and give him a gentle – maybe not so gentle – shake and say, “I’m right!”
Fortunately, I don’t know many people who that has actually worked for.

How to Succeed {When Organizing Makes You Feel Like A Failure}
“Now I remember why I stopped making lists,” I said to him, as I headed up the stairs for bed.
“What?” he said.
“Lists. I stopped making lists quite a few years ago, because I never could get it all done. I just stopped writing stuff down, so that I wouldn’t feel like a complete failure at the end of the day.”
He met me at the bottom of the stairs, and I assumed the hugging position –me on the bottom step, so that I could wrap my arms around his neck from a flatfooted position.

Why I’m Resolved to Be Better Organized This Year {and The Best Tool I’ve Found to Help}
So I want to be better organized this year.
Hoping for things to run just a little more smoothly and reduce the stress of my schedule.
You too?
While I’m not one to make many New Year’s Resolutions, I can’t help but acknowledge that this is a good time of year to stop.
Appraise.
And see where I can improve.
Not merely for my own sake, mind you, but also for the sake of my marriage and for my family.
