Use Meditation to Interpret Your Dreams

Let’s face it dream interpretation can be difficult at times, especially for beginners. Even seasoned dream interpreters, myself included, may find a dream baffling. When you add in your denial about how you’re feeling or a situation in your life, then it’s impossible for you to understand your true dream meanings.

This is where meditation could help, for you have more waking awareness during meditation than when you’re dreaming. You decide which of the two meditation style to use, whether you choose to keep your mind blank or use visualization. Let’s investigate these two styles.

How to interpret your dream by keeping your mind blank:

Find a quiet spot where you won’t be disturbed.
Close your eyes and ask for the meaning of your dream.
Do your best to keep your mind clear without thinking what the answer could be.
Allow the answer to come up, whether it is: a thought, an emotion, vision, smell, or hearing the answer.
Journal the messages you received, even if you don’t comprehend them at that moment.

By the means of visualization:

Find a quiet spot where you won’t be disturbed.
Breathe deeply and close your eyes.
Visualize your dream.
Allow yourself to use other senses if you have trouble visualizing the dream.
Ask for clarity while you’re remembering your dream.
Let go of how this process happens during the time of being in your dream.
Journal whatever occurred and/or answers you received.

Perhaps you didn’t receive any information? Please do not allow this to discourage you as your fear could have blocked the process; therefore, either wait a few days to repeat this procedure or take a time out. Sometimes the answer will not be presented right away in meditation. Instead, the meditation assists you to receive insight in another manner, such as: you receive the dream meanings out of the blue, your dream is repeated to help you understand it upon awaking, overhearing a conversation, watching a video, or while searching for information on another topic. There are times when you need input from a trusted friend or dream analyst to break through your denial.

A former teacher of mine often stated, “Psyche is kind, it never gives you more than you can handle.” If you have not received an answer it means that it’s not time yet, especially when it’s a post-traumatic stress dream. Know that when you’re ready, your answer will appear.

Have you ever meditated to help you analyze a dream? I would love to hear about it in the comments. Do you need help with this process? Book a dream interpretation coaching session today.

Dreams about Being Bitten by a Snake

Snakes are a common symbol in dreams, yet there is no one size fits all meaning. Every person has their different life experiences, beliefs, traumas, obstacles, and ways of interacting with people that seeps into their dream life. This is why it’s important to figure out your dreams special symbols and unique interpretation.

The same is true of snake bites; for instance, a snake trainer will respond differently than a teenage girl. Your emotions also are a gigantic clue; who knows, maybe there’s a person who enjoys being bitten by a snake?

Did the snake sink his fangs into your face, neck, arm, hands, torso, butt, legs, or feet? What body part is bitten alters the dream context. Where the event occurs affects the meaning. Another important fact to assist you in interpreting your dreams is to mull over common threads of your past, present, or if it’s a precognitive dream.

Now it’s time to share what Pamela is dreaming:

There was a snake in my house and I was shaking with fear. My sister ignored the request to remove it from my house telling me to leave it alone. Obviously I felt upset over her actions. Eventually, it bit my right big toe.

In the next scene, my doctor was examining my right foot. All my toes were black that caused me great concern. The doctor’s prognosis was that my foot would be alright; however, I needed to keep off it for three days. This caused me distress because I couldn’t do yoga for three days, causing me to ponder how I could practice my poses during the time I needed to stay off my foot.

Then the doctor peeled off the black skin, revealing a normal foot. Whew, I felt such relief!

Here are some examples of a dream dictionary’s definition of a snake bite:

Warnings.
Something poisonous in your life.
Resistance to taking the next step.
Being competitive.
An enemy attacking me.

Yes, some of those meanings can make sense; nonetheless, it’s definitely not the last definition as my sister and I are close. Plus the doctor in the dream is one of the few whom I respect and like.

Here’s my interpretation:

The snake is representing my fear of taking steps toward transformation in my business. There’s a part of me that would like someone else to take care of this, yet I must do the work to move forward. During my metamorphosis, there will be some difficulties, I need to be patience while this process is occurring, and figure out a way to continue to do what I enjoy with work and play. In the end, all will be transformed.

Perhaps you are wondering how I could have gotten that dream meaning. This interpretation reinforces the need to be aware of what’s going on in your life. I’ve been pondering where my business is going, changes I need to bring about, and how to proceed. At times my baby sister is very mothering; therefore, it is reflecting my desire to have someone else do it for me. Also, she is less of a risk taker than me, which represents my thinking of just leaving things as they are. However, being bitten by the snake proves that I need to take action. The doctor scene represents the need to examine this situation, not to rush the process, do what I can in the meantime, and in three days (I wish), months, or years (no!) the changes I’ve been thinking about will occur.

Hopefully, this dream example, provided you with insight on how to examine your own dreams. In the meantime, I will be sure to wear shoes while walking in nature, and be open to receiving possible more meanings as time goes by.

What’s the Perfect Dream Journal for You?

There were few choices of dream journals to choose from back in the early nineties when I began journaling my dreams, which was either handwritten in a book journal or recorded on a magnetic tape recorder machine. These days, you are lucky to have a multitude of choices. If you desire to know why you should even bother to record your dreams, please read The Importance of a Dream Journal.

It’s crucial to find the dream journal style that works best for you and keeps you inspired to continue recording your dreams. These following seven methods to record your dreams will assist you to discover your perfect journaling tool.

Dream Journal Apps

Now, I never used one, yet some people swear by them. Download the app on your smartphone or tablet, while checking on how to back-up your entries in the cloud storage to avoid losing valuable information. One advantage of using an app is you can journal down your dream anywhere, even during your public commute to work. Another bonus is that it won’t become damaged in a fire or your pet decides to use your journal to throw up or urinate on.

Laptop or Desktop

Type your dreams into your dream journal file on your computer, which is a convenient way to keep your dreams organized. Create sub files for symbols, categories, and possible interpretations to dive deeper into the secret language of dreams. Back-up your files on a USB memory stick, your computer’s hard drive, and the cloud storage.

Blog Your Dreams

Some bloggers use their blog as a dream journal. Your readers will give you feedback and/or insights on your dreams. An asset of blog posting a dream is the majority of people won’t give you any flack about what you wrote since it was only a dream.

Recording Device

Thank goodness those clunky magnetic tape recorders are a thing of the past! These days there are a variety of digital recorders to choose from. You can even use a voice recording app on your smartphone or tablet that can be backed up in the cloud storage. If you dislike writing or typing, yet love to talk – voice record your dreams. Who knows you could even start a podcast?

Videos

Perhaps you like to video everything on your phone, tablet, or camcorder, why not video tape your dreams? You could even upload them to YouTube, Viemo, or have a vlog.

Pinterest

Are you in love with pinning like I am? Create a dream journal board! Pinterest has the option to use sections for your board and now you can move pins around a board – hallelujah! Create a secret board if you desire to keep your dreams private.

Old-fashioned Journal

There’s something magical about using a pen on paper! Handwriting your dreams could bring about insights missed in other journal styles. Plus handwriting does have positive effects on your brain as this Forbes article points out. You can buy a fancy journal or a cheap notebook.

Dreaming About Unwanted Sexual Advances

How do you feel when a person you’re not interested in expresses an unwanted affection or sexual advance? Emotions could range from ego trip to disgust. Those feelings are magnified when you dream about a man or woman making a proposition for sex.

When a male client shared his dream, I asked if I could use it for my blog. Here’s his dream:

I was at a house that was having a stag party. Somehow I ended up in somebody’s bedroom, lying nude on a bed with a naked young woman on top of me. She started gyrating her groin area onto my junk. I kept yelling, “No, no, no!” But she continues to gyrate. There was a part of me that wanted to because I was so turned on, yet at the same time I kept on seeing my wife’s pretty face in my mind. Finally, I pushed her off of me.

Here are five dream interpretation of what could have been the dreams’ meanings:

He is being reminded of how much he loves his wife.
His fantasy of having an affair was carried into this dream.
A young woman has shown him unwanted attention.
This could be a precognitive dream warning him of future events.
Post regrets of cheating on his wife.

My client’s dream reminded me of a recent dream that I had:

I was at some kind of gathering when a fundamentalist Christian man approached me expressing how enthralled he was with me. Feelings of being repulsed by him came up; therefore, I immediately told him, “I’m in a relationship.”

Then an attractive, hippy/new age man started hitting on me. Even though he was mesmerizing, my partner’s face came into my mind and I replied, “I’m already in love with another man.”

Upon awaking, I had an attitude of gratitude for my mate. The dream was reinforcing my commitment to him, while expressing how he was balanced between the two extremes of being a fundamentalist and new ager.

What I love about both dreams is the lessons of: being committed in a love relationship, rejecting instant gratification, choosing wisely, and executing boundaries. These two dreams are excellent teachers of what to avoid and actions to take during our waking lives.

Emotions in Dreams, Aids in Dream Interpretation

Whenever I write a blog on a specific symbol, I always remind my readers of how important your emotions are in a dream. Your feelings are key to understanding the true message, which is why I always ask my clients what they felt in the dream.

Let’s play around with my theory by using the following three examples:

Tarantula Dream

You find a huge tarantula in your bed.

Terror in the dream would signify: that you’re afraid of spiders, there are scary issues relating to a bed, or this occurred in real life.

If a woman feels joyful and loving emotions, she could be dreaming of spending time with Freddie, her pet tarantula.

Sadness in this dream may be symbolic of Freddie the tarantula’s death, or for someone else whose behavior in bed ruined their relationship.

Car Dream

You’re in the driver seat and your car crashes into a brick wall.

Anger in the dream may mean: that you’re furious for the obstacles in your life, there are engine issues with your car, or this occurred in real life.

If a man feels excitement, perhaps he is a stunt car driver.

Fear in this dream could be symbolic for afraid of not being able to make your destination or your new car being damaged.

Snow Dream

When you open the blinds, you observe that there’s an unexpected winter blizzard.

Frustration in the dream can signify: that you’re fed up of unforeseen weather hindering your plans, there are upsetting memories of past snowstorms, or this occurred in real life.

If a little girl feels happy, she may desire to go sledding.

Sadness in this dream might be symbolic for all the unexpected problems in your life or your frozen tears piling up.

Do you understand why your emotions are so important in dream interpretation? A symbol in a dream can have thousands of meanings, while an emotion rarely has more than one definition.

What are your emotional dream experiences?

Mountain Dream Symbol

A big thank you to Katherien Lundin for her contribution of her third guest post. Enjoy!

In dreamtime we all go to many places and some of these places can evoke a myriad of feelings that we may or not be feeling during present day waking moments.

A common dream amongst us is the dream and/or nightmare of climbing and or descending snowy peaks, rolling hills as well as a giant and overwhelming beyond the clouds types of mountains. We either feel heroic at the end of this journey or defeated.

Many of us go through the motion of climbing during our waking life, at work, with relationship and of the desire for own personal goals.

Dreaming of a mountain can symbolize hard work or even enduring long days of toil in order achieve a goal, overcoming obstacles, and rising above squabbles and everyday quarrels.

For many of us even the experts it is hard work to climb a mountain. We must all be on the look out for obstacles in everyday life, for even the most mundane circumstance can be an obstacle, like being late and caught in traffic at a red light, to literally carrying weight on your back and having to climb a mountain in the rain.

Descending a mountain in your dream state can symbolize pulling away from something or someone. This can denote a lateral move within your career or having to downsize a home. It is always wise to listen to your intuition at the time of this dream of descent and pay attention to what is happening within your life.

Many people do dream of rolling down a hill and getting hurt. Sometimes the rolling down is literally the feeling or rolling down because your decent may be a fall, but one must always remember we can always stand up dust ourselves off and start again.

Dreams quite often are a mirror of our everyday life, feelings and circumstances.

We all will at one time or another dream of mountains and we all have hurdles, hills and obstacles in our everyday waking life that can be hard, but perspective is key when it comes to a challenge and that is why we must stand if we fall and keep climbing if our hearts so desire.

Recurring Dreams

Why do I have the same dream repeated over and over? I keep having these dreams with a similar occurrence, although the people or places change, why am I having these dreams? These are the type of questions my clients will ask me, when they are experiencing recurring dreams.

Why Do Recurring Dreams Occur?

To alert you to the fact there’s an issue in your life that needs to be resolved, which you are discounting. The reasons for ignoring obstacles are: living a hectic lifestyle with a long to do list, using a mind altering substance to avoid reality, being in denial about what is going on or has happened in your life, avoiding it due to the fact that you don’t want to exert the effort, or fearing the changes that will happen once this problem is solved. These explanations do not mean you’re an awful person, but what is actually occurring is self-preservation; nonetheless, your psyche will gently or forcefully continue to push what needs to be healed into your dream state.

Ten Dilemmas That Can Cause Recurring Dreams

Unresolved childhood issues.
Relationship problems.
Love life dilemmas.
Stuck in an unfulfilling job.
Avoidance of your life’s true career.
Health issues.
Repressed emotions.
Money issues.
Home relocation.
Phobias.

Let’s use the example of love life dilemmas to further illustrate recurring dreams. A woman, who I’ll call Nancy, divorced her cheating husband twelve years ago; however, she refrains from dating. During Nancy’s marriage, she had low self-esteem and didn’t set boundaries, which allowed her husband to take advantage of her. Today when a healthy man approaches Nancy, she blows him off. Here are two recurring dreams Nancy has had:

Her ex-husband (or another man) is belittling her, while he is with another woman.
She attempts to speak out to her ex-husband (or another man), yet her voice is silent.

Sadly, Nancy continues to blame her ex-husband for the failure of their marriage; therefore, she misses out on the opportunity for a loving partnership.

[image error]Quote from the book Learn the Secret Language of Dreams
How to Stop Recurring Dreams

It’s natural to desire a recurring dream theme to end, especially if these dreams are causing distress in your life. Ignoring your repeated dreams will not cause them to disappear, instead you need to do dream analysis to understand the true dream meanings. Then, take necessary action steps to heal the dilemma. Once you have resolved the issues, your recurring dreams will end.

Check out this recurring dream and interpretation in this month’s In the Dreamtime column in Bellesprit Magazine. For further help with your recurring dreams, please visit our dream interpretation services.
