If you’ve never visited the Barks and Beans Care, or met Macy Hatfield and her brother, Bo, then you’re in for a treat. Well, a treat with a bit of murder mixed in.

Ms. Gilbert weaves a cast of characters, friends and neighbors—red herrings—weaving in and out of the pages, coming and going to the café.

With every clue comes another twist, and more questions. The author keeps the reader engaged and guessing—and turning pages to the end.
