BLOGWORDS – Sunday 9 April 2023 –FRONT PORCH FELLOWSHIP – HE IS RISEN

I share with you a message received from a close friend today. Read and be blessed.
“I think about the first century followers of Jesus on this day after the crucifixion. I can’t imagine their grief, abject disappointment, sorrow and hopelessness. Their one hope was dead. The believers thought He was coming as a political leader who would take over the corrupt evil government and religious leaders of the day. It dawns on me that we are in a similar posture of waiting. We are waiting for the return of our coming King. We are disappointed and grieving the corruption and evil we see in our time. We see the demise of our beautiful country and struggle to raise up humans to guide and lead us… We wait for Jesus to come. He told his disciples He would rise again on the third day. They KNEW what he said. But they didn’t necessarily believe Him, especially after His hideous execution. But just like they, in their period of mourning….we can Believe…and must believe His Word WILL be fulfilled. Just as He arose..He IS coming again. Be watching! Be prepared. He will reign and rule His righteous kingdom and all things will be judged and made right! Hallelujah to the King of Kings. He IS alive!”

It’s a simple message, really, yet so difficult to grasp. Such vast love, unfathomable to the natural mind. And yet, today is His expression of His love for us. Unconditional, unending, never diminished.

BLOGWORDS – Friday 7 April 2023 –BOOK LAUNCH EVENT – COVER REVEAL – THE COVER

 THE BLURB
THE BLURBIt all started with old wiring and a fire.
The Elliott family had always enjoyed gatherings with extended family and friends. Especially at Christmas. They had discovered Blue Mountain Chalet, near Asheville, North Carolina; it became their venue of choice, and had hosted their crowd the past three years.
Until the wiring in the hundred-year-old inn sparked a fire, destroying much of the beloved inn. And two weeks before Christmas, too.
With no venue, it seemed their fledgling holiday tradition was a bust. Until Gigi called on a friend who ran a B&B at Heron Cove. All systems were go and their holiday was rescheduled for the last week of January.
Until eighty-four-year-old Gigi had a stroke. On New Years Day. But with Gigi’s free spirit, and three weeks of recovery and therapy, and all systems were go. Again.
One disaster follows another as the family and friends gather to celebrate Christ’s birth. But even with a lost aunt and uncle, muddy dogs, a jellyfish sting, and dogs eating the turkey, there is joy and peace and laughter at Blue Heron Inn. And love. Lots of love.
NOTE: There is a brief episode of racism in this story that might be offensive to some readers.
EXCERPT – GIGI’S STROKE“Girls.” Gigi’s smiling voice, though, kept tears at bay. She reached out to them, her left arm sagging a little bit. “They won’t bring me an Old Fashioned.” An Old Fashioned was Elaine’s drink of choice. “You’ll be my dolls and bring me an Old Fashioned, won’t you?”
“Dr. Craig said we were lucky.” Their Aunt Liz explained as they hugged their grandmother and deferred her hushed request “She had a very mild ischemic stroke. Her blood pressure was extremely elevated, and her cholesterol has always been high—”
“Stuff and nonsense!” Gigi waved her good arm.
“Mom,” Beverly chastised, if mildly. “You know you don’t eat right.”
“I’m fit as a fiddle.” But her words slurred ever so slightly still.
“Her BP was through the roof.” Liz continued.
“It’s a good thing we got you into your garden cottage.”
“Oh, I adore my cottage.” Elaine Griffin was a social butterfly and as active as her granddaughters. “I miss my garden. You girls will take care of my garden for me, won’t you?”
“Of course, Mom.” Even her daughters called her by her designated moniker. “You get some rest now.”
“I am feeling a bit drowsy…” Elaine eased back into her cloud of pillows and drifted off to sleep.
And now…

Thanks for playing along and staying with me all week! Tomorrow (yes, there’s more) I’ll introduce some of the characters – and there’s a lot of ‘em!

BLOGWORDS – Thursday 6 April 23 –BOOK LAUNCH EVENT – CHAT THURSDAY – CHARACTER INTERVIEW – ELAINE and LAURA

One of my favorite posts during a launch blitz is the character interviews! Even I discover little nuggets I didn’t already know—and I reckon I know my characters better than anyone. #winkwink

Today I’m interviewing sisters Elaine Griffin and Laura Grifffin-Dumas.
FAST FAVESCake or Cookies:
ELAINE: Both.
LAURA: I don’t eat sweets.
ELAINE: Your loss, Laura.
Call or Text:
ELAINE: Face to face.
LAURA: For personal affairs, I prefer a call.
Dogs or Cats:
ELAINE: I love all animals.
LAURA: Animals are filthy and disgusting.
Eggs or Pancakes:
ELAINE: Pancakes. With chocolate chips and tons of butter and syrup.
LAURA: Egg white omelette.
Facebook or Twitter:
ELAINE: Oh, Facebook. I have dozens of friends.
LAURA: Facebook is a waste of time. Twitter is vital to business.
Paperback or Kindle:
ELAINE: Paperback but I keep my Kindle with me
LAURA: I don’t have time to read.
Thornton or Darcy:
ELAINE: Darcy. Particularly one Colin Firth. He is a dream boat.
LAURA: Fiction is such a waste of time.
rem: Let me introduce the two matriarchs of our story, Elaine Griffin and her sister, Laura Griffin-Dumas. Welcome ladies.
LAURA: It’s a pleasure to be here.
ELAINE: I’m so happy to be here. It’s so nice to meet you, Robin.
rem: Thank you. You two grew up in the same house, yet are as different as night and day.
LAURA: Well, some people just have no discipline.
ELAINE: Well, some people have too many rules.
LAURA: You think it was too much to come home at a decent time?
ELAINE: I was fifteen and 9:00 was a ridiculous curfew.
LAURA: You stayed out all night. Doing God knows what.
ELAINE: That was only once. And yes, God knew what we were doing.
LAURA: Well I’m sure I don’t want to know.
ELAINE: We were ice skating on Dragon’s Pond.
LAURA: All night?
ELAINE: We had a bonfire going and Allison dared us to stay up and watch the sunrise.
LAURA: Wait. Allison Truman?
ELAINE: Yes. She was my best friend. Who else do you think I meant?
LAURA: I thought…
ELAINE: You thought I spent the night with Bert, didn’t you? You thought we were having sex.
LAURA: Really, Elaine. So crude.
rem: Okay, ladies. Let’s move on. What interests do you have in common?
CRICKETS
ELAINE: We both love the opera.
LAURA: You like opera?
ELAINE: Yes. SMUG LOOK And the symphony.
LAURA: But you hated practicing the piano.
ELAINE: I hated sitting still.
LAURA: You always were antsy.
rem: What’s your favorite opera?
ELAINE: Carmen! Such a powerful love story.
LAURA: Love story. HARUMPH
ELAINE: I suppose your favorite is pure and holy.
LAURA: Madame Butterfly is a tragic story of unrequited love.
ELAINE: It is a beautiful opera. And so tragic. I cried when I saw it.
LAURA: You cried in public?
ELAINE: I’m not afraid to show my emotions like some people.
LAURA: I’m not afraid to show my emotions. I just don’t see the need to show them to strangers.
rem: Tell us about your families.
ELAINE: Oh, I have the most beautiful daughters, six wonderful grandchildren, and twenty-six great-grandchildren. And a brand new little great-great-grandson.
LAURA: And no husband.
ELAINE: Barry and I didn’t want to be married. We had a good relationship and that was enough. We were close friends to the day he died.
rem: Elaine, I’m so sorry for your loss.
ELAINE: Thank you, dear. It’s been eight years and I still miss him.
LAURA: He was a fly-by-night.
ELAINE: And yet he stayed with me for to the day he died.
rem: Not everyone has that, Elaine. What about you, Laura. Tell us about your family.
LAURA: Gus and I have been married for fifty-five years.
ELAINE: Big ridiculous wedding at the country club. They had swans swimming on the lake.
LAURA: It was romantic.
ELAINE: It was gauche.
LAURA: It was traditional. And it was what I wanted.
ELAINE: What Mother wanted, you mean.
LAURA: We were married in July of 1962 and honeymooned in Paris.
ELAINE: Tacky. And so unoriginal.
LAURA: Not everybody feels the need to stand out like a sore thumb.
rem: What about your children, Laura? Do you have any grandchildren?
LAURA: George and Emily Katherine don’t want children.
ELAINE: Reckon that’s a good thing since they’re not married.
LAURA: You hush. It’s their choice. David Paul and Patricia have two lovely girls, Heather Dawn and Anna Charlotte.
rem: Can you tell us a little bit about your father.
ELAINE: You’re heard of Stalin.
LAURA: Elaine! What a horrible thing to say.
ELAINE: I exaggerate.
LAURA: Exaggerate? He was nothing like Stalin.
ELAINE: He was a bully.
LAURA: He was strict. He had to be; he had a business to run.
ELAINE: And a family to ruin.
LAURA: You are the shame of our family.
rem: Ladies, I think our time is about up. One final question for you—do you have a life Scripture?
LAURA: Certainly. John 3:16.
ELAINE: “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4
rem: Those are both great Scriptures. Both so important. Ladies, I’ve so enjoyed chatting with you. Thank you for visiting us at my little nest today.
