New feature on The Workshop now up
Hello, Write Edge readers, and happy Monday. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how to finish out the year on The Write Edge Writing Workshop. I thought I’d spend all of 2024 writing haiku for my Monday posts to help me deal with my father’s death. It’s been hard, I won’t lie, but it also has been made better by all the wonderful people in my life who stand by me, behind me, and, on the occasion I need it, around me as I mourn.
My dad was an incredible man, and he was always teaching people about things in life. Thinking of him and what he taught me, I thought it might be better for me to go through the last few months of 2024 trying to do a little teaching myself. So for the rest of the year, I’m going to spend every Monday sharing a piece of writing from around the web and explaining what, in my professional opinion as an author and editor, it does well and what the takeaways are for other writers.
I’m calling this new series “Workshopping the story,” and the first installment is up now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop. Today I’m offering thoughts on a piece of micro fiction from 101 Words.
This past Friday I shared in my #bookreviewpreview what I #amreading for this Wednesday’s newest review. In the middle of the week, find out what I thought of Westfallen by the sister-brother writing duo, Ann and Ben Brasheres. You’ll get that review on The Write Edge Bookshelf.
Finally, on Friday, it’s back to Instagram and bits and piece from my writing and non-writing pursuits. Missed previous posts? Check them out now on the app with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page.
Have a great day, readers, and remember to tell a loved one you care about them. Life is too short not to.

Book review now up
Hello, Write Edge readers. I hope the week has gotten off to a good start for all of you. I’ve spent the last couple of days doing some thinking about a small change I want to make around here, and I think I’ll be ready to announce that change for Monday postings this coming week. Keep an eye out for that.
In the meantime, last Friday I shared what I #amreading in my #bookreviewpreview. Today I give you my thoughts on The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife by debut author Anna Johnston. Here’s the opening to my post:
A senior citizen finds himself impersonating someone else for his own benefit through a strange set of circumstances. As he settles into the shoes—literally—of another man, he discovers there’s a possibility of a second chance for love and friendship. Author Anna Johnston uses her real-life experience working in a senior citizen facility to bring heart and authenticity to her debut novel The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife.

Book review now up!
Hello, Write Edge readers! My apologies for not posting on Monday. It was Labor Day here in the States, which meant a long weekend for us and an extra day to spend with my college freshman. I also got to sit with a lovely friend who lost someone dear, which left me a little sad and contemplative for the rest of the day.
But I’m back with my latest book review. Last week I shared in my #bookreviewpreview that I #amreading Bummer Camp by Ann Garvin. Here’s the opening to today’s post:
A woman is called back to save the children’s summer camp run by her family, despite having left years earlier. As she fights corporate America—and her sister—for control, she starts to face the possibility that maybe the camp isn’t the only thing that needs to be rescued. Ann Garvin’s latest novel perfectly captures everything about summer, family, and the complications of both in her new book Bummer Camp.
