Book review now up

Good evening, Write Edge readers. I’m at the end of my day, but I wanted to make sure I shared this week’s book review before turning in. Tonight I share my thoughts on the YA romance Some Like it Cold by Elle McNicoll. Here’s the opening to my review:

A teenager struggling with a big decision comes home for the holidays only to discover her arch nemesis will be in her way during her entire break. As she navigates family relationships and her own neurodivergence, she realizes life is just as complicated back home as it was at school. Author Elle McNicoll leans into her own experience with neurodivergence to lend authenticity to Some Like it Cold.

Have a good night, readers, and remember to tell a loved one you care about them. Life is too short not to.

The last quarter of the year…

Hello, Write Edge readers. Here we are on the eve of the last quarter of the year. Every day seems to crawl by, yet I’m going to turn pages tomorrow on all of the calendars to October. How is it that time works so strangely?

It’s the last Monday of the month, which means the Writers’ Showcase is now up on The Write Edge Writing Workshop. Visit the site now to see what pieces caught my eye in September and whether you enjoy them just as much.

Last week on Instagram I shared what I #amreading in my #bookreviewpreview. Find out on Wednesday what I think of Some Like It Cold by Elle McNicoll. You’ll get that review on Wednesday on The Write Edge Bookshelf.

Finally, on Friday, it’s back to Instagram and more of my writing/non-writing shenanigans. Missed previous posts? Find them now on the social media platform with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page.

Have a great week, readers, and remember to tell a loved one you care about them. Life is too short not to.

Instagram posts now up!

Hello, Write Edge readers. To those of you feeling the effects of Hurricane Helen, please stay safe. Hurricanes are nothing to fool around with; believe me, I lived through Hugo. I know.

If you are able to surf safely (and in a dry location,) I’ve posted my latest Instagram posts for you. They include my #bookreviewpreview so you know what I #amreading for next week’s review along with writing advice and an excerpt from a story on The Write Edge Writing Workshop. Check it out now with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page.

Have a great weekend, readers, and remember to tell a loved one you care about them. Life is too short not to.

New book review now up!

Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on I’m Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom by Jason Pargin. Here’s the opening to my post:

A directionless twenty-something is hired to drive cross-country with a mysterious package and the kooky woman who hired him for the job. Before they reach the opposite coast, they find themselves on the run from a group of misfits who either want to know what’s inside the box or take it themselves. Satirist Jason Pargin offers insightful, often biting comment on the current state of social media and its ripple effects in the mostly entertaining novel I’m Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom.

The last full week of September

Hello, Write Edge readers. It’s a gloomy Monday here in Central Illinois, but all that means is that I have an extra excuse to stay inside, read, write, and think about stories for even longer stretches of time than I typically would (which, admittedly, is already a lot. :D) To that end, I’m sharing my second installment of my new feature on The Write Edge Writing Workshop. I’m calling it “Workshopping the Story,” in which I pull a short story of the web, share a link of it with you, and tell you what I think it did well. Today’s short story won an honorable mention in the flash fiction contest held this spring by WOW-Women on Writing. Check out the story and my analysis of it now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop.

This past Friday I shared on Instagram what I #amreading in my #bookreviewpreview. This week I’ll tell you what I thought of I’m Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom by Jason Pargin. Find that review on The Write Edge Bookshelf on Wednesday.

Finally, it’s back to Instagram on Friday and bits and pieces of my writing life and non-writing past-times. Missed previous posts? Find them now on the app with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page.

Have a great week, readers, and remember to tell a loved one you care about them. Life is too short not to.

New book review now up!

Hello, Write Edge readers. Just a quick note to let you know that I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I share my thoughts on Westfallen by Ann Brasheres and Ben Brasheres. Here’s the opening to my post:

Six middle schoolers discover they have the ability to talk through time and begin sharing information about their respective eras. Despite their best intentions, everything in the present day gets flipped upside down and the kids scramble to change everything back so life can return to normal. Sibling authors Ann Brasheres and Ben Brasheres pull out all the stops in a believable, high-octane middle grade thriller that will leave readers impatient for the sequel of Westfallen.

Read the whole review now on The Write Edge Bookshelf.

Have a great day, readers, and remember to tell a loved one you care about them. Life is too short not to.

New feature on The Workshop now up

Hello, Write Edge readers, and happy Monday. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how to finish out the year on The Write Edge Writing Workshop. I thought I’d spend all of 2024 writing haiku for my Monday posts to help me deal with my father’s death. It’s been hard, I won’t lie, but it also has been made better by all the wonderful people in my life who stand by me, behind me, and, on the occasion I need it, around me as I mourn.

My dad was an incredible man, and he was always teaching people about things in life. Thinking of him and what he taught me, I thought it might be better for me to go through the last few months of 2024 trying to do a little teaching myself. So for the rest of the year, I’m going to spend every Monday sharing a piece of writing from around the web and explaining what, in my professional opinion as an author and editor, it does well and what the takeaways are for other writers.

I’m calling this new series “Workshopping the story,” and the first installment is up now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop. Today I’m offering thoughts on a piece of micro fiction from 101 Words.

This past Friday I shared in my #bookreviewpreview what I #amreading for this Wednesday’s newest review. In the middle of the week, find out what I thought of Westfallen by the sister-brother writing duo, Ann and Ben Brasheres. You’ll get that review on The Write Edge Bookshelf.

Finally, on Friday, it’s back to Instagram and bits and piece from my writing and non-writing pursuits. Missed previous posts? Check them out now on the app with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page.

Have a great day, readers, and remember to tell a loved one you care about them. Life is too short not to.
