Apologies for missing Friday and Monday…

Good evening, Write Edge readers! My apologies on missing posting on Friday and Monday. We’re slowly entering the busy season with multiple book events for me and just the holidays in general. Blogging occasionally, I’m afraid, gets lost in the shuffle.

But I have my latest book review for you today. I’m sharing my thoughts on the newly-released YA novel A Queen’s Game by Katharine McGee. Here’s the opening to my review:

Three young courtiers determined to find their fortune set their sights on the highest royal in the land. As they scheme against one another, work with each other, and try to navigate the challenges of being at court, the women will discover that the best course of action may be the most unexpected. Author Katharine McGee, well known for her American Royals books, comes back with a novel full of historical whimsy but only somewhat compelling in A Queen’s Game.

Have a good night, readers, and remember to tell a loved one you care about them. Life is too short not to.

Book review now up!

Hello, Write Edge readers. For those of you in the U.S. who have strong feelings about the election results — I’m just as sorry as you are. But this is our opportunity to show one another even more kindness than we normally do. Kindness of the highest order will go a long way toward healing sadness and lifting one another’s spirits.

I’ve posted my latest book review for you. Today I’m sharing my thoughts on Streetlight People by Charlene Thomas. Here’s the opening to my post:

A teen finds a way to turn back time and relive moments with the boy of her dreams. The longer she engages in her time travels, however, the more she realizes she’s not the only one with the power to go back to the past. Author Charlene Thomas presents an interesting premise that sprawls uncontrollably in her newest book Streetlight People.

Read the whole review now on The Write Edge Bookshelf.

Chins up, disappointed readers. We still have each other. Tell a loved one — or anyone else today, for that matter — that you care about them. Life is too short not to.

Rainy, rainy November…

Hello, Write Edge readers! Here in Central Illinois, we’ve gotten a rainy, rainy start to the first full week of November. Needless to say, it’s perfect reading/writing weather. I’ve spent time today doing a fair amount of both in various capacities.

With regards to the writing, I’ve brought back my regular Workshop writing posts. Today’s prompt challenged me in a way to write a micro piece, which is always a fascinating and fun exercise. Check it out now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop!

Last week I shared what I #amreading in my Instagram #bookreviewpreview for this week. Find out on Wednesday what I thought of Streetlight People by Charlene Thomas. Come back to The Write Edge Bookshelf for that.

On Thursday we go back to The Bookshelf for this quarter’s R.E.A.D.s This is my quarterly feature where I shared what I thought of a particular book as a Reviewer, Editor, Author, and a Dreamer, and this month I’ll take a deeper dive into Made for You by Jenna Satterthwaite. Find the first installment of R.E.A.D.s on The Write Edge Bookshelf.

Finally, on Friday, it’s back to Instagram and all of my writing/non-writing shenanigans. I’m so proud to share with all of you that In the Heart of the Linden Wood won Best Cover in the 2024 Kindle Book Awards! What an absolute pleasure to see this book get this well-deserved recognition. So proud of my second book baby!

Have a great week, readers. Remember to tell a loved one you care about them, and if it’s raining where you are too don’t forget that umbrella.

Book review now up

Good evening, Write Edge readers! Last week I shared what I #amreading in my #bookreviewpreview. Today I share my thoughts on For She Is Wrath by debut author Emily Varga. Here’s the opening to my post:

A young woman breaks out of prison to get revenge on the emperor who sentenced her to death. She also has in her sights the man who helped with that sentencing, never mind that she gave her heart to him years earlier. Author Emily Varga offers a fresh twist on the classic The Count of Monte Cristo in her sparkling debut For She Is Wrath.

As the seasons change…

Good evening, Write Edge readers! It’s the last week of the month, and with the time change coming this weekend I feel like this is the first major step toward the changing of seasons. Temperatures for our friends in the Northern Hemisphere are getting cooler and days much shorter. Fortunately, reading only increases at this time of year (or maybe that’s me…? 😀 Who am I kidding, I’m always reading no matter what.)

With it being the last Monday of October, I’ve gone back to my newest feature on The Write Edge Writing Workshop called “Workshopping the Story.” I’ve taken a short story — in today’s case, it’s micro fiction that’s 101 words long — and showed you what it’s done well. Check it out now on The Write Edge Writing Workshop.

On Friday I shared on Instagram what I #amreading for this week’s #bookreviewpreview. This week I’ll let you know what I thought of For She is Wrath by Emily Varga. Come back on Wednesday for that review on The Write Edge Bookshelf.

Finally at the end of the week, it’s back to Instagram for what I’m reading next, new micro fiction of my own, and more. Missed previous posts? Find me on the app @EktaRGarg, or go to my Facebook author website.

Have a great week, readers, and remember to tell a loved one you care about them. Life is too short not to.

Book review now up!

Good evening, Write Edge readers! Last week I shared what I #amreading in my #bookreviewpreview. Today I’m posting my thoughts on A New Lease on Death by Olivia Blacke. Here’s the opening to my review:

A millennial and a ghost team up to solve the murder of a man neither of them knew well. As the two work together, they must navigate the challenges of communication and cohabitation. Author Olivia Blacke brings a heartwarming tone to this book, despite a pace that drags a touch, in A New Lease on Death.

New fiction and more this week!

Good evening, Write Edge readers, and welcome back to the blog. It’s so good to be writing to all of you again — I’ve missed it!

In the last couple of months, there’s another thing I started to miss: posting new fiction to The Workshop. I know I’d announced earlier in the year that I would spend 2024 writing haiku as my Workshop entries as one way to process my grief about losing my dad. That processing continues in other ways, but I feel strongly that the haiku has done what it can do for me. I’m ready to go back to short stories.

To that end, I posted a piece of micro fiction to Instagram last week, which you can check out on the app with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page. I had so much fun with that, I figured I’d continue the micro run. Go now to The Write Edge Writing Workshop for my latest entry to short-short fiction.

Last Friday, I told you what I #amreading in my #bookreviewpreview. This Wednesday find out what I thought of A New Lease on Death by Olivia Blacke. Check out that review on The Write Edge Bookshelf in the middle of the week.

Finally, this coming Friday is back to Instagram and all of my writing and non-writing adventures and ventures. Links above for what you may have missed before.

Have a great week, readers, and remember to tell a loved one you care about them. Life is too short not to.
