From July to August (where did the time go?)

Hello, Write Edge readers! It’s great to be back here on a Monday (I know, I know; I’m trying to get back on track, though, I promise!) For today’s Monday Motivation for the #writingcommunity, I’m sharing a great blog post by the amazing Nathan Bransford. In this post, he talks about how to tackle that first chapter in your new WIP. Check out the post now titled “Where to start in Chapter 1 in a novel.”

While my regular posting gets a little wonky at times during the summer, I’m still reading voraciously. Go to Instagram tomorrow to check out my #bookreviewpreview to see what I #amreading for this week’s review! Find me on the app with my handle, @EktaRGarg, or on my Facebook author page, and then come back for the full review on The Write Edge Bookshelf on Wednesday.

Speaking of Instagram, those of you who hang out there may have already seen this, but if you haven’t and you’re in the CU area this Friday, come say hello! I’m going to be selling copies of my new book, The Witch’s Apprentice and Other Stories, before the pub date (!!) and hanging out with some other amazing local authors.

On Friday it’s back to Instagram shenanigans to kick off a whole new month. This past week I posted more pictures from our Italy vacation this past week, and they made me (among other things) hungry for the people and the food. 😀 Let’s find out together what goes on the app at the end of this week.

Have a great week, readers!

Book review now up!

Good evening, Write Edge readers! Yesterday I shared in my #bookreviewpreview what I #amreading for today’s review. I’ve just posted my thoughts on the latest psychological thriller, The Woman in Suite 11, by Ruth Ware. Here’s the opening to my review:

A journalist receives an invitation to a luxury hotel where she meets someone from a devastating event in her past. Soon after she finds herself fleeing across Europe, hoping to outrun one of the richest men in the world. Then he’s murdered, and she’s accusing of killing him. Author Ruth Ware’s latest book, a sequel to one of her earliest big hits, tries and sometimes succeeds in matching the original step for step in The Woman in Suite 11.

Back with your Monday Motivation!

Hello, Write Edge readers! I’m back after an unintended hiatus. Nothing bad, thank goodness! Just a break brought on by attending Novel Bookcamp in Wisconsin in late June and then coming back to my many writing responsibilities and non-writing ones as well. I’ve spent the last couple of weeks catching up but also going deep into promotions for The Witch’s Apprentice and Other Stories. Exciting news coming on the book in the next week or two, by the way! I’m just waiting on confirmation of one thing, and then I can share.

In the meantime, I thought I’d share this article I read today. There are so many good tips here for writers, although I think it’s applicable to any creative person. If you’ve hit a wall or feel like you’re at the edge of inspiration, this piece might help.

When Writing Feels Impossible, Here’s What Actually Helps

One thing that hasn’t stopped for me (when has it ever, actually?) is reading. This Wednesday I’ll share my latest book review with you. Want to know what book I #amreading? Find out in tomorrow’s #bookreviewpreview on Instagram, then read the review in the middle of the week on The Write Edge Bookshelf!

Instagram will continue to feature large in my online presence this week, including what I hope is that fun surprise about the new book. In the meantime, you can pre-order it now for your Kindle or get your own paperback copy! Don’t forget to add it to your TBR on Goodreads too!

Oh, and if you’re looking for some writing advice on how to create an elevator pitch for your book, check me out on The Write Atmosphere, Atmosphere Press’s new writing podcast!

Have a great day and week, readers!

Book review now up!

Hello, Write Edge readers! I’ve posted my latest book review for you. In yesterday’s #bookreviewpreview on Instagram, I shared that I #amreading Don’t Let Him In by domestic thriller author Lisa Jewell. Now you get to find out what I thought of the book! Here’s the opening to my post:

A young woman’s instincts go on high alert when her mother starts dating someone new shortly after her father dies and the new man in her mom’s life seems too good to be true. Despite her own mental health challenges, the young woman decides her mother’s well-being is more important and starts looking into the boyfriend. What she finds are more questions than answers and every reason to be worried. Thriller author Lisa Jewell is back with another winning novel about how far someone will go to manipulate people in her newest book Don’t Let Him In.

Book review now up!

Hello, Write Edge readers! Yesterday on Instagram I shared in my #bookreviewpreview that today I’m sharing my thoughts on The Other Side of Now by Paige Harbison. Here’s the opening to my post:

When a TV star decides to take a break from her crazy life, she ends up traveling to another dimension parallel to her current existence. There she finds out what life would have been like if she’d taken a different path and also what means most to her. Author Paige Harbison takes the concept of Sliding Doors and gives it the basis of a friendship lost and found in the sweet book The Other Side of Now.

A special sneak peek into my new book!

Hello, Write Edge readers! I’m thrilled — today’s the day you get a sneak peek into my new book! But first, check out the amazing cover below, which I’m sharing for the first time ever today:

Not only do you get a cover reveal, you also get to hear me reading part of one of the stories in a very special episode of Biblio Breakdown. Check it out now!

I’m going to enjoy the rest of my vacation with my family, readers, but I’ll be back in about a week to chat some more. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to let me know what you think of the cover and what you hear of the book. Can’t wait for all of you to read this one!

Prepping for vacation but leaving some treats behind!

Hello, Write Edge readers! My house is a flurry of activity this week as we count down to our family vacation. The blog will go on a partial hiatus, but I do have some fun things planned for next week. I can’t wait for you to see them!

In the meantime, I just posted my last installment of this quarter’s Thursday R.E.A.D.s. This month I’ve taken a deep dive into This American Woman by Zarna Garg, and it’s been so great to do so. Today I shared my look at the memoir as a Dreamer of stories and books. Find that all the previous installments now on The Write Edge Bookshelf!

I’ll be back late next week with that surprise I promised (hint: it has to do with my own upcoming release, The Witch’s Apprentice and Other Stories.) In the meantime, I’ll be getting ready to enjoy time with family, reading a lot, and thinking of new stories to work on this summer. Have a great weekend, readers!
