hopes of how this might turn out.

When the second song came on,

you stepped back from me,

but I could still see your feet

moving along to the same rhythm

as mine. When the third song

came on, it was I who forgot how to

move, and who forgot how to

love you in the ways that you have

always deserved. When the fourth

and final song came on, the

slow dance, I reached out only

to find myself swaying the air

in my arms. Before the lights
