Trick or Treat (A Short) - October Challenge
A (belated) Day 9 entry for the #31daywritingchallenge I'm doing for October! Halloween-themed, of course. Sheesh, I've been watching way too many of those real-life crime shows. This one could honestly use a little more work and creativity, but I have to power on! I hope you enjoy it.
“Trick or Treat?”The kid was so short, she only came up to the middle of my thigh. Her costume was fantastic, though. I couldn’t tell what it was from—maybe a character from a new game or some cult classic her p...

The Lake Behind the Barn (A Poem) October Challenge
Whoo, some catching up to do after a couple days of relaxing between huge orders! Okay, here we go, another Halloween-themed poem for a belated Day 8 of the writing challenge. This one's a homage to those stories adults tell kids, rumors and legends that swirl around small towns and you grow up wondering--was it true?
****

The Lake Behind the Barn
“In the muddy lakebehind the ole barn--a lake or a pond?--that barn no one’s usedfor a decade or two,the one all chipped blue paintwith the rusted roo...

Two Sentence Horror Stories - October Challenge
Day 7 of the #31DayWritingChallenge for October! I'm enjoying the challenge this month, but it's much harder during this time of the year with my online business based in crafting costume pieces. Haha. Well! That's just an excuse though. A writer should always be writing anyway, right?
I'm going to attempt some two-sentence horror stories.

Old Mr. Smith woke up to his three beloved cats, Pumpkin, Honey, and Critter, standing on his chest and yelling for food. Outside, three cat-sized graves...

The Ghost in the Second Stall (A Short) October Challenge
Day 6 for the #31daywritingchallenge. (A day late again, but I'm going to catch up today, dangit!) Another Halloween-themed one, this time some flash fiction. I hope you enjoy.

Her pale, bluish face was only an inch from mine when I looked up. I recognized her instantly.
It had only been a week since the news broke, after all. Leah Miller, killed in a hit-and-run while biking home from school. She was in our sophomore class. Quiet and shy. Thick, but not big enough to get attention for it....

It Creeps Further (A Poem) October Challenge
This is a belated post for the #31daywritingchallenge , Day 5. I decided that since this is October, I want to add some good creepy shorts and poems into the mix. Stick with me, they might be sort of shaky at first because this isn't a genre I've practiced very much. There's an art to flash fiction and an art to scary, and I am not great at either. Haha. This will be fun. *cue creepy Halloween music and crows cawing*

Writing Challenge Day 4: A Brain-Addled Blog Post
Welcome to day 4 of the writing challenge!
Oh man, it was another 16 hour work day for me today, finishing a large craft order. My back hurts, my neck hurts, everything hurts. I really wanted to write a short story for the write anything challenge (#31daywritingchallenge) buuuut that wasn't in the cards today with all that work, and now it's almost 3 am here and I'm struggling just to stay awake and write this.
So, the writing today will be just this because there's not much more I can do with...

Silence is a Magnitude (A Poem)
Silence is a magnitude. It is heat and power. It is fear.It is the churning heartin a cage of a chestpounding against wallsand can’t be heard. The silence is absurd. How could storms be ragingin an open graveand not make sound?I want to rip it out.I want to roll itin mud and earthuntil it stillsits noiseless sound.Silence is a weapon,Keep it down.

A Friendly Game of "Who's Better?" (A Poem)
Day Two of the 31 Day Write Anything challenge!

A Friendly Game of "Who's Better?"
It is posturingto throw others on the bladeand praise your own.
Yes you, with the knives in your back as well.
Yours fit a little better, though, don't they? The glitter of the steel is metaphoric, and there's significance in the inky splotchesof your blood.
You're right, what were we thinking?
Ignore those barbariansand their savage ways. They're too simple to even throw your own steelback at you.

Happy October! (It's time for another challenge!)

Hello all!
Been a while, I know. I'm still going strong on the motivation and writing goals I started this year, but it got hard to keep up with blog updates while trying to root out deeply ingrained bad habits and overcome so many of the other challenges that life tends to throw at us all.
So, things are doing well! But the reason for the out-of-the-blue update is because it's time for another writing challenge! This one is exactly like the January writing challenge I did at the beginning of t...
