A Hidden Song (A Short, Part 6)

Day 17 of the Write Anything Challenge. I'm now more than halfway through the month! Good job to all my friends who are keeping up with the challenge too. We can do this!

Now, to continue this little melody. (Almost done!)

((A Hidden Song, continued from last time: ))

There she was.
Every Wednesday at the same time ever since he had started coming here. The woman in black who stood next to the hotdog stand. He'd been disappointed when he hadn't seen her at first today. She had a special place in...

What Lives (A Poem)

Day 16 of the Write Anything challenge! A break from the short story today while I work on its conclusion. I decided to write a little free poetry. I like to make up categories in my head for stories and poems that don't actually exist... or maybe they do, I don't know. To me, free poetry just means something loose and a little unstructured, like stream of consciousness prose. When I really think about it, though, all my poetry is like that, so what's the difference? Choppiness? Rhythm?

See yo...

A Hidden Song (A Short, Part 5)

Day 15 of the Write Anything Challenge!

((A Hidden Song, continued from last time: ))

"On the house today," the man said. Was it because she looked so miserable, or because he was trying to get her number again? He slid a dog into a bun and swiftly twisted it into a shiny foil cocoon, handing it out to her. She shook her head, though, and fumbled in the larger-than-normal tote bag on her shoulder for her money.
The man's dark brow pooled together at the center in a swirl of sagging skin from a f...

A Hidden Song (A Short, Part 4)

((A Hidden Song, Continued from last time: ))
It was a week before she saw him again, 3:00, same as before. She had been practicing for days, brainstorming what she would do if he came back, whether the extra spot on the bench was taken or not.
She was not standing at the usual hotdog stand this time. If someone had asked her why, she would have said it was because the vendor always tried to touch her fingers when he handed her the hotdogs, and because ex-team leader Mark Furrows might show up...

Somewhere Between the Moments (A Poem and Impressionism)

Somewhere Between the Moments
Sunshine, dappled,swaying with the trees,with the wind,dancingthrough the window,on the rough, earthy carpet,laying with eyes closed,breath bated,skin touching sun,touching ground,dancing with it.Dancing without seeing.Wind against the glass,silence,songs with feathershumming along,lashes on cheeks,lips partedteeth, a smile,laughter made ofheartbeatsdancingtremblingLiving.Just living that.

On Writing Challenges, Fears, and Facing Them

Hi lurkers, it's Friday! And the 5th day of this brand new shiny year, AND the 5th day of the write anything challenge. (I'm sticking with it! Success!) I've been keeping a private journal so far of what it feels like every day to post something new, and so far I've noticed that my nerves are starting to go down a very little, and slowly the habit of trying to think about what I should write for the day is starting to form, but I'm still struggling with the time that it takes. It's supposed t...

All Kinds (A Poem for Writers and Artists)

For Day 4 of the Write Anything Challenge! Excuse the handwriting... I felt like drawing it, which took waaaay longer than I should have spent on a daily challenge. You live, you learn.

Haiku Time

So I sat down this morning to write, because the challenge is to literally write anything at all every day for 31 days, and I had no plans. Another poem? But poems are usually my go-to for getting out stress or ideas, I'm not used to doing them on the spot. Maybe some flash fiction? I barely lingered. It was early morning, I had plenty of time. I clicked on the MMO I've been playing and told myself an idea would come to me in an hour.

Quite a couple hours went by. I did chores, I played more g...
