Jesus Wants to Share Your Burden

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30 (RSV)

I don’t know what burden you’re carrying. I don’t know what’s weighing you down. But I do know the answer to your trouble.

Jesus said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30 RSV).

For many years, I never understood what Jesus meant when he said, “Take my yoke upon you.” It made me think, “Lord, do you want to give me something else to deal with? My burden is heavy enough already! I don’t need to take your problems on me!”

Then I learned that a yoke is a board with two arches, and it’s placed over two cattle so they can pull a cart.

The value of a yoke is that it cuts the load in half. Without a yoke, one cow has to pull the entire load by itself. But if you yoke up the cow with another cow, then the two animals pull the load together, making it half as heavy.

So, when Jesus tells you to take on his yoke, he’s not saying he’s going to give you his problems. Jesus doesn’t have any problems! He’s saying he’s going to share your problems. He’s going to share your load. He’s going to take your stress on himself and bear it with you.

Wow!

Jesus uses three notable verbs in this Scripture: come, learn, and take. It’s like Jesus said, “Come team up with me so you can learn how I do it. Take on a lighter load that will reduce your stress and make your problems easier to navigate.”

When you’re yoked with Christ, you move together with him. You move in the same direction and at the same speed. You move in the right direction and at the right speed. And you move with a lighter burden.

Talk It Over

Why is it sometimes difficult to accept help from someone who wants to share your burdens and make it easier on you—even when that someone is Jesus?
Think of a fellow Christian who’s carrying a heavy burden. What’s a practical way you can encourage them to let Jesus share that burden?
Jesus already knows all about your stress. Are you ready to take on his yoke? If not, what is holding you back?

Have you trusted God’s promise of salvation?

If you’re ready to commit your life to Jesus, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I receive you into my life as my Lord and Savior. Today, I’m turning every part of my life over to you. I want to follow you and do what you tell me to do.

“Jesus, I am grateful for your love and for your sacrifice that makes it possible for me to join you in heaven. I know I don’t deserve it. And I thank you that I don’t have to earn or work for my salvation, because I know that is impossible. I want to use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I humbly commit my life to you, and I ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

No Puedes Permitirte No Diezmar

“Traigan íntegro el diezmo para los fondos del templo, y así habrá alimento en mi casa. Pruébenme en esto —dice el Señor Todopoderoso—, y vean si no abro las compuertas del cielo y derramo sobre ustedes bendición hasta que sobreabunde”.  Malaquías 3:10 (NVI)

Si quieres que Dios bendiga tus finanzas, ponlo en primer lugar en tus finanzas. Esto se llama la disciplina espiritual del diezmo.

Dios es específico acerca de este hábito de devolverle la primera parte de tus ingresos: “Traigan íntegro el diezmo para los fondos del templo, y así habrá alimento en mi casa. Pruébenme en esto —dice el Señor Todopoderoso—, y vean si no abro las compuertas del cielo y derramo sobre ustedes bendición hasta que sobreabunde” Malaquías 3:10 (NVI).

Obviamente, Dios no necesita tu dinero. Entonces, ¿por qué habla sobre el diezmo?  Porque Él quiere lo que eso representa en tu vida, Dios está probando tu fe, está probando tus prioridades, está probando tu gratitud.

Cuando das tu diezmo a Dios, es gratitud por el pasado: “Dios, yo no tendría nada si no fuera por ti”, es el establecimiento de prioridades en el presente: “Dios, quiero que tú estés en primer lugar en mi vida”, y es una declaración de fe en el futuro: “Dios, creo que vas a cumplir tus promesas”.

Diezmar es una prueba de tu confianza. ¿Confías en Dios lo suficiente para decirle esas cosas sobre tu dinero? Dios nos prueba porque quiere que lleguemos a ser como Él. Dios es el mejor dador, y cuando demostramos que somos confiables con nuestras finanzas, nos volvemos más como el Gran Dador.

Un hombre de negocios muy conocido me dijo una vez, “Rick, tienes que decirle a las personas, que el mejor momento para iniciar el diezmo es cuando ellos están en deuda”. Cuando le pregunté ¿por qué?, dijo, “porque es cuando más se necesita la ayuda de Dios”.

Diezmar puede parecer especialmente difícil cuando tienes deudas. Pero si quieres salir de las deudas, necesitarás la ayuda de Dios. Así que, hónralo poniéndolo a Él en primer lugar a través del diezmo.

Puedes pensar que no puedes permitirte diezmar, ¡pero no puedes permitirte no hacerlo! Si quieres que Dios bendiga tus finanzas, debes ponerlo en primer lugar en tus finanzas.

Trust Your Defense to God

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows."

Psalm 23:5 (NIV)

How do you handle rude people? You don’t. Let God handle them. Let him be your defender.

You’ve probably noticed that civilization is losing its civility. The world is getting ruder! The Internet plays a part in this. It allows people to hide behind the screen and say things online they would never say to others face-to-face.

People who do this reveal the smallness of their hearts. Small people belittle others, thinking it will make them feel better.

But great people make other people feel great. King David was a pro at this. He knew what it meant to be attacked emotionally, verbally, and physically. As a young man, he was anointed by the prophet Samuel to be the next king of Israel, but David spent two years running from his predecessor, King Saul, who wanted to kill him. He hid in caves while being criticized constantly behind his back.

Yet David never said a bad word against Saul; he never retaliated. God was preparing David to be a king after his own heart.

David says in Psalm 23:5, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows” (NIV).

David recognized God’s goodness to him. God anointed his head with oil, which says to the world, “This is my guy! Back off! He is going to be the next leader.” David’s cup overflowed, which meant God kept blessing him, even when others attacked him.

Does it sound like David was stressed out? No! He didn’t have to use up all his energy defending himself because he trusted God to be his defender.

It takes a lot of faith and humility to rest and trust God when you’re under attack, when you’re misunderstood, and when rumors are spreading about you. When that happens, it’s tempting to want to do something about it.

But you are most like Christ when you remain silent under attack. Jesus was constantly attacked, yet he never retaliated—even on his way to the cross. He remained silent before his accusers because he had entrusted himself to the care of the Father.

The Bible says, “If you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you” (1 Peter 4:19 NLT).

God won’t let you down. Trust him to be your defender today.

Talk It Over

Why does it often feel important that you have the last word in an argument?
What is the physical benefit of entrusting your defense to God? How does that decision affect your health?
If you have to speak to your attackers, what do you think God wants you to say? How does he want you to say it?

Have you trusted God’s promise of salvation?

Cómo Comenzar a Salir de Deudas

“No tengan deudas pendientes con nadie”.  Romanos 13:8 (NVI)

Dios deja muy claro en la Biblia cómo se siente acerca de la deuda. Romanos 13:8 dice: “No tengan deudas pendientes con nadie”. Dios declara la misma sabiduría que la mayoría de nosotros tenemos intuitivamente: la deuda no es algo bueno.

Dios quiere que pagues lo que debes para poder bendecirte en tus finanzas. Para hacerlo, debes comprometerte a hacerlo, y luego debes tener un plan para hacerlo.

Primero, debes comprometerte a hacerlo. Probablemente has notado que es fácil entrar en deuda. Ni siquiera tienes que pensarlo. Pero no puedes salir de la deuda. Hay que hacer vuelta en U y comenzar una larga subida a la colina. Eso requiere una decisión difícil y un compromiso con el tiempo y la disciplina que se necesitará para salir de la deuda.

Es fácil sentirse solo en esta subida cuesta arriba. ¡Pero Dios sabe exactamente dónde estás! Él entendió que esto iba a suceder hace mucho tiempo. Él quiere ayudarte y hacerte crecer en medio de  tus problemas. Él está contigo en este desafío. No estás solo.

Primero haces un compromiso y luego haces un plan.

Tener un plan es esencial. Salir de la deuda es una tarea diaria de paso a paso. E involucra una palabra que la mayoría de la gente odia: disciplina. Eso significa no hacer esto, no comprar eso, la resolución de hacer esto, la decisión de no hacer eso. La Biblia dice en Proverbios 21:5, “Los planes bien pensados y el arduo trabajo llevan a la prosperidad, pero los atajos tomados a la carrera conducen a la pobreza” (NTV).

Si tienes deudas, no ignores esta advertencia de la Biblia: ten cuidado con los atajos apresurados. Cuando estás endeudado, tienes dolor y deseas salir del dolor lo más rápido posible. Así que eres extremadamente propenso a este desafío.

No persigas atajos apresurados. Busca el plan de Dios. Haz un compromiso con el plan y decide que podrás hacer lo que sea necesario para lograr tus objetivos.

Imagínate dónde podrías estar en un año si tomas pasos diligentes para estar libre de deudas. Luego, decide dar esos pasos todos los días, confiando en la sabiduría y la gracia de Dios para hacer lo difícil.

What’s the Cure for Stress?

“Since he did not spare even his own Son for us but gave him up for us all, won’t he also surely give us everything else?”

Romans 8:32 (TLB)

If you want a cure for stress, look to God to meet your needs.

The major cause of stress in your life is worry. You worry because you wonder if you will have what you need when you need it. But any time you expect people or things to meet your needs instead of God, you’re going to be frustrated and disappointed, because nobody on earth can meet all your needs. Only God can do that.

Some people find their security in their job, and when they lose their job, they lose their peace of mind.

Others put their security in their marriage. Then their spouse dies or they go through a divorce, and they ask, “Who am I? What is my identity?”

Or maybe you put your security in your money. But there are a lot of ways to lose your money.

I recommend that you never put your security in anything that can be taken away from you. You can lose your job, your health, your reputation, your spouse, and so many other things. But you cannot lose your relationship with Christ.

When you put your security in that promise, you can trust God to meet all your needs.

Romans 8:32 says, “Since he did not spare even his own Son for us but gave him up for us all, won’t he also surely give us everything else?” (TLB)

If God loved you enough to send Jesus Christ to die on the cross, don’t you think he loves you enough to take care of every other need in your life? Yes! Of course he does.

Every time you start to get stressed, pause and say, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1 ESV).

God’s going to provide. He’s going to take care of you. Instead of stressing out, look to him to meet all your needs.

Para una Buena Administración del Dinero, Conoce el Estado de tus ‘Rebaños’

“Asegúrate de saber cómo están tus rebaños; cuida mucho de tus ovejas; pues las riquezas no son eternas ni la fortuna está siempre segura”.   Proverbios 27:23-24 (NVI)

No se puede afrontar la realidad si no se es consciente de ella, y la verdad es que todos ignoramos a veces lo que ocurre con nuestro dinero. ¿Alguna vez te has encontrado diciendo algo como: “No sé a dónde se fue todo”? Si es así, es una gran advertencia de que te diriges hacía un problema.

Para ser un administrador responsable de tu dinero, necesitas aprender los principios de la contabilidad. Es parte del plan de Dios para bendecir nuestras finanzas. La Biblia dice: “Asegúrate de saber cómo están tus rebaños; cuida mucho de tus ovejas; pues las riquezas no son eternas ni la fortuna está siempre segura” Proverbios 27:23-24 (NVI).

En los tiempos bíblicos, los intereses comerciales se centraban en los rebaños, y las manadas que las personas poseían, eso eran sus activos. Por eso hablaban del valor de conocer el estado de sus rebaños. Hoy diríamos: “Conoce el estado de tus acciones”. Ahí es donde están en gran medida nuestros intereses comerciales.

Tal vez estés pensando: “Mis rebaños se ven un poco flacos esta semana”. ¡Ese es el punto! El punto es que debes conocer el estado de las cosas. Tienes que estar consciente para que puedas entender dónde están tus finanzas y cómo le puedes hacer frente a esa realidad.

Proverbios 23:23 dice: “Vale la pena invertir para obtener la verdad, la sabiduría, el aprendizaje y el entendimiento” (PDT). Hay un costo para una buena cuenta. Lleva tiempo mantener registros. Tienes que invertir tiempo, energía y a ti mismo, pero vale la pena.

Para mantener buenos registros, concéntrate en cuatro cosas sobre tus finanzas: lo que posees, lo que debes, lo que ganas y hacia dónde va. Tienes que saber esas cuatro cosas, con el fin de ser financieramente libre.

Eso significa que lo escribes. Mantienes un registro. Creas algún sistema automático. Haces lo que sea necesario. Si aún no lo estás haciendo, probablemente estés pensando: “No tengo tiempo para hacerlo”. Tienes razón. ¡Ninguno de nosotros tiene tiempo para hacer esto!

Dios quiere bendecirte financieramente, por lo tanto tienes que hacer un tiempo para mantener buenos registros.

God’s Correction Is for Your Good

“Happy is the person whom God corrects! Do not resent it when he rebukes you."

Job 5:17 (GNT)

If you’re running from what God has called you to do, there is something you should know: God is calling you back to him.

He knows that the longer you run, the worse life will get for you. And he wants to get your attention before it’s too late.

Even though God is patient, he won’t let you ignore his call forever. God loves you just the way you are, but he loves you far too much to let you stay that way.

One day he’s going to get your attention.

The prophet Jonah found this out the hard way as he was running from God: “The storm was getting worse all the time” (Jonah 1:11 GNT). The more Jonah ran, the worse the storm got. Jonah’s running had consequences.

It’s the same way for you. When you run from God, eventually you’ll find yourself surrounded by storms.

Sometimes those are the storms of God’s correction. But when God corrects you, it’s not negative. It’s because he loves you!

Loving parents discipline their children because they love them and want to see them change their behavior for their own good. God is the same way. The Bible says: “Happy is the person whom God corrects! Do not resent it when he rebukes you” (Job 5:17 GNT).

As the storm got more intense, Jonah’s shipmates asked a question many people ask when troubles build: “What should we do . . . to stop the storm?” (Jonah 1:11 GNT)

The answer is always the same. You must completely surrender your life to God. When you surrender, peace comes.

Jonah did this. He responded, “Throw me into the sea, and it will calm down. I know it is my fault that you are caught in this violent storm” (Jonah 1:12 GNT).

It was Jonah’s first unselfish act—and his first step toward a fresh start. He admitted he was the cause of the storm, and he surrendered to God’s will.

If you’ve been running from God’s plan for your life and now you’re facing a storm, surrender to God. You can do this with confidence because God is for you, and he’s calling you back to him.

En Dios Confiamos

“Dios les proveerá de todo lo que necesiten, conforme a las gloriosas riquezas que tiene en Cristo Jesús”. Filipenses 4:19 (NVI)

Si quieres que Dios bendiga todas las áreas de tu vida, incluyendo tus finanzas, entonces demuéstrale que serás responsable cuando Él te bendiga.

En los próximos días, analizaremos siete hábitos que te ayudarán a comprender el plan de Dios para administrar tu dinero.

Lo primero que debes entender es que Dios es tu proveedor, independientemente de dónde trabajes. Él es quien provee para todas tus necesidades, y puede hacerlo a través de tu trabajo. Si crees que algo o alguien más es la fuente de tu provisión, siempre estarás temeroso de perder tu trabajo, tus ingresos o posesiones.

Pero con Dios nunca tienes que preguntarte si tus necesidades serán cubiertas. ¡Todo le pertenece a Él de todos modos! Romanos 11:36 dice: “Porque todas las cosas proceden de él y existen por él y para él. ¡A él sea la gloria por siempre!” (NVI).

Si una fuente de agua está cerrada, Dios puede abrir otra con la misma facilidad. Si pierdes un trabajo, Él puede darte fácilmente otro. Si Dios cierra una puerta, Él puede abrir otra. Si todas las puertas están cerradas, Él puede abrir una ventana.

Cuando entiendes eso y eliges confiar en Dios, liberas el estrés de confiar en el dinero y en otras personas.

La Biblia dice en Filipenses 4:19, “Dios les proveerá de todo lo que necesiten, conforme a las gloriosas riquezas que tiene en Cristo Jesús”.  ¡Dios suplirá todas tus necesidades! Y Él sabe mejor cuáles son esas necesidades —y cómo suplirlas.

La administración del dinero comienza con esta pregunta: ¿en quién o en qué confías?

Cuando depositas tu confianza en Dios, te levantas cada mañana y dices: “Dios, todo te pertenece. Todo viene de ti. Eres mi proveedor, y voy a confiar en ti para suplir mis necesidades”.

Confiar en Dios no sólo reducirá tu estrés, sino que también te permitirá empezar a ver cómo Él quiere bendecirte.

Celebrate What God Has Done in Your Life

“Sing to God, sing praises to his name; lift up a song to him . . . his name is the LORD."

Psalm 68:4 (ESV)

To get back in a right relationship with God, you first have to get fed up with the way you live, then own up to your sin, and then give up control of your life to God. Finally, you celebrate what God has done in your life.

In Jesus’ story of the prodigal son, it’s important to notice the father’s response: “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him . . . The father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate’” (Luke 15:20, 22-23 NIV).

The prodigal’s father is like your heavenly Father. No matter what you’ve done, when you come home to God, he wraps you in his love. He gives you his best and says, “All is forgiven! Go get the robe. Go get the shoes. Let’s have a feast! My child has returned to me.”

You come home to celebration, not condemnation. And God wants you to join him in celebration by giving him your praise.

You can celebrate your spiritual transformation by simply saying, “Thank you, God. Thank you for your grace, love, and goodness. I lift up my praise to you!”

The Bible says in Psalm 68:4, “Sing to God, sing praises to his name; lift up a song to him . . . his name is the Lord” (ESV).

One of the easiest ways to celebrate your own transformation is by singing at church. Worship songs give you a chance to celebrate what God has done in your life and thank him.

“But I’m not a singer!” you might say. I have good news: The Bible doesn’t say to make your singing sound pretty. It says to make your singing joyful. You can do that! Anybody can make a joyful noise.

Sing your praise to God—not just for who he is but also for the spiritual transformation he’s made in your life. Commit to celebrating God’s unconditional love and grace throughout the new year. He welcomes you home with open arms.

Talk It Over

How does your experience with your earthly father affect your expectations of God when you mess up?
Does it surprise you to know that God celebrates when you return to him, no matter what you’ve done or how far away you’ve been?
What keeps you from expressing your praise to God through singing?

Have you trusted God’s promise of salvation through Jesus Christ?

If you’re ready to commit your life to Jesus, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I receive you into my life as my Lord and Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. Today I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.

“I’m grateful for your unconditional love. I want to use the rest of my life to love and serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Seis Promesas de Dios para tu Futuro — 2ª Parte

“Si no somos fieles, él [Dios] se mantiene fiel a nosotros, porque no puede faltar a su promesa”. 2 Timoteo 2:13 (NBV)  

En el devocional de ayer vimos que Dios promete guiarnos cuando no veamos las cosas con claridad, ayudarnos cuando seamos tentados y apoyarnos cuando estemos en problemas.

El día de hoy veremos el resto de las promesas que Dios tiene para nuestro futuro:

Dios promete pagar a aquellos que te lastimen

La Biblia dice claramente que Dios lleva un registro de las veces que has sido lastimado en tu vida. Romanos 12:19 dice, “Queridos amigos, nunca tomen venganza. Dejen que se encargue la justa ira de Dios. Pues dicen las Escrituras: «Yo tomaré venganza; yo les pagaré lo que se merecen», dice el Señor” (NVB). Dios dice, “no quiero que desperdicies ningún segundo de tu vida buscando venganza, tomando represalias o tratando de emparejar cuentas con alguien, porque eso te va a llenar del veneno de la amargura, y no quiero que desperdicies tu vida siendo amargado”. La Biblia dice que habrá un día para rendir cuentas, habrá un día del juicio. Dios sabe muy bien lo que las personas te han hecho, y Él se va a encargar de hacer justicia. ¿Confías en Él? Si realmente lo haces , dejarás ir todo eso.

Dios promete premiar tu servicio y generosidad

Jesús es el modelo de la humanidad perfecta y Dios quiere que crezcas y madures para ser como Cristo; que pienses como Cristo, que sientas como Cristo, que ames como Cristo, que sirvas como Cristo y que des como Cristo. Si Dios quiere que sea como Jesús, ¿cómo es Él? En una palabra, Él es generoso, Marcos 10:45 dice, “Porque ni aun el Hijo del hombre vino para que le sirvan, sino para servir y para dar su vida en rescate por muchos” (NVI). En este versículo hay dos verbos, servir y dar. Esas dos palabras describen lo que significa seguir a Cristo. Hebreos 6:10 dice: “Pues Dios no es injusto. No olvidará con cuánto esfuerzo han trabajado para él y cómo han demostrado su amor por él sirviendo a otros creyentes como todavía lo hacen” (NTV).

Dios promete mantenerte salvo hasta que llegues al Cielo

Una vez que eres salvo, Dios te mantiene salvo hasta que llegues al Cielo. Esa es la buena noticia, eso significa que puedo hacer todo en Cristo que me fortalece, y no importa lo que venga, no importa lo que suceda, puedo contar con algo, Dios siempre va estar conmigo y nunca dejará de amarme. Juan 10:28 dice, “Yo les doy vida eterna y jamás perecerán ni nadie podrá arrebatármelas de la mano” (NBV).

Reflexionar sobre esto:

Cuando no perdonas, sigues permitiendo que el dolor de hace tres, diez, o veinte años te siga lastimado, ¿por qué te aferras a esa memoria cuando posiblemente tu ofensor ni se acuerde de tu existencia?Considera el versículo de Marcos 10:45, ¿son estos dos verbos los que describen tu vida, servir y dar?Síguenos en Instagram  & Facebook  Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más?
Si estás listo para cruzar esa línea y tomar la decisión de creer en Jesucristo y seguirlo;
