Your Thoughts Control Your Life
“Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts."
Proverbs 4:23 (GNT)
God is far more interested in changing your mind than in changing your circumstances.
Most people long for God to take away all problems, pain, sorrow, suffering, sickness, and sadness. But God wants to work on you first, because transformation won’t happen in your life until you renew your mind—until your thoughts begin to change.
Why is it so important to learn how to manage your mind? Here are three reasons:
Because your thoughts control your life. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts” (GNT). Your thoughts have tremendous ability to shape your life for good or for bad. For example, maybe you were told while growing up: “You’re worthless. You don’t matter.” And you accepted that thought, even though it was wrong. Now, years later, it’s shaping your life. That’s why it’s important to choose which thoughts you allow to affect you.
Because the mind is the battleground for sin. All temptation happens in the mind. Paul said in Romans 7:22-23, “I love to do God’s will so far as my new nature is concerned; but there is something else deep within me, in my lower nature, that is at war with my mind and wins the fight and makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. In my mind I want to be God’s willing servant, but instead I find myself still enslaved to sin” (TLB).
One reason you get mentally fatigued is because there’s a battle in your brain 24 hours a day. It’s debilitating because it’s intense, and it’s intense because your mind is your greatest asset. Satan wants your greatest asset!
Because it’s the key to peace and happiness. An unmanaged mind leads to tension. A managed mind leads to tranquility. An unmanaged mind leads to conflict. A managed mind leads to confidence. When you don’t control the way you direct your thoughts, you will experience an enormous amount of stress in your life. But a managed mind leads to strength, security, and serenity.
The Bible says, “Letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace” (Romans 8:6 NLT).

Lo que el Administrador Deshonesto Hizo Bien
“El sabio medita en sus propios caminos, pero al necio lo engaña su propia necedad”. Proverbios 14:8 (NBV)
En la historia del administrador deshonesto en Lucas 16, el personaje principal es el héroe —a pesar de su deshonestidad. ¿Pero, por qué? Como administrador, él sabía que estaba a punto de ser despedido, canceló parte de las deudas que otras personas le debían a su amo. Su esperanza era que un día, cuando necesitara ayuda, ellos recordarían que le debían un favor. Su deshonestidad ciertamente no es admirable. Entonces, ¿qué le gustó a Jesús de este hombre?
El administrador deshonesto hizo tres cosas bien, y son las mismas cosas que Dios quiere que hagas con tu dinero.
Primero, el administrador miró hacia adelante. Consideró el futuro. Cada anuncio en nuestra cultura nos enseña a hacerlo ahora, a gastarlo ahora, a tenerlo ahora y a olvidar el futuro. Es por eso que muy pocas personas tienen ahorros.
Proverbios 14:8 dice: “El sabio medita en sus propios caminos, pero al necio lo engaña su propia necedad” (NBV). Hay algunas cosas que debes enfrentar en tus finanzas, y entre más esperes para hacerlo, más difícil será arreglarlas.
La segunda cosa que Dios quiere que hagas, como lo hizo el administrador, es hacer un plan. ¿Cómo sabes si tienes un plan financiero? Es muy sencillo: ¿Tienes un presupuesto? Un presupuesto le dice a tu dinero a dónde ir. Si no tienes un presupuesto, tú no tienes un plan. “El hombre hace planes, pero es el Señor el que dirige sus pasos” Proverbios 16:9 (NBV).
La tercera cosa que hizo el administrador que también debemos hacer, es actuar rápidamente. Él no pospuso las cosas. Él no esperó. Puso en marcha su plan. Él no dijo: “Algún día voy a ordenar mis finanzas. Algún día comenzaré a ahorrar para la jubilación”. Recuerda esto: “uno de estos días” será ningún día.
El administrador dice en Lucas 16:4, “Ya sé lo que voy a hacer, para tener quienes me reciban en sus casas cuando me quede sin trabajo” (DHH). Eso es lo que Jesús está elogiando —no la falta de honradez del administrador, sino su capacidad para hacer un plan y actuar en consecuencia. Si vas solo a la deriva a través de la vida, no estás actuando con prudencia. Necesitas tener la visión a largo plazo.
Cuando Jesús habla de la visión a largo plazo, no está hablando de la jubilación. Está hablando de la visión a largo plazo al otro lado de la muerte. Cuando miras hacia el futuro, haces un plan que le agrade a Dios, y luego actúas en consecuencia; así estás haciendo una inversión para el futuro que cosechará recompensas eternas.

God Is There, Even When He Seems Distant
“I go east, but he is not there. I go west, but I cannot find him. I do not see him in the north, for he is hidden. I look to the south, but he is concealed. But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold."
Job 23:8-10 (NLT)
God has promised repeatedly, “I will never leave you; I will never abandon you” (Hebrews 13:5 GNT).
Yet God has not promised that you will always feel his presence. In fact, God acknowledges that sometimes he hides his face (see Isaiah 45:15).
There are times when he appears to be missing-in-action in your life.
This is a normal part of the testing and maturing of your friendship with God. Every Christian goes through it at least once. It is painful and confusing, but it is absolutely vital for the development of your faith.
This knowledge gave Job hope when he could not feel God’s presence in his life. He said, “I go east, but he is not there. I go west, but I cannot find him. I do not see him in the north, for he is hidden. I look to the south, but he is concealed. But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold” (Job 23:8-10 NLT).
When God seems distant, you may feel that he is angry with you or is disciplining you for some sin. In fact, sin does disconnect you from intimate fellowship with God. You grieve God’s Spirit and diminish your fellowship with him by disobedience, conflict with others, busyness, friendship with the world, and other sins (see Psalm 51; Ephesians 4:29-30; 1 Thessalonians 5:19; Jeremiah 2:32; 1 Corinthians 8:12; James 4:4).
But often this feeling of abandonment or separation from God has nothing to do with sin. It is a test of faith, one all believers must face: Will you continue to love, trust, obey, and worship God, even when you have no sense of his presence or visible evidence of his work in your life?
The most common mistake Christians make in worship today is seeking an experience rather than seeking God. They look for a feeling, and if that feeling happens, they conclude that they have worshiped.
But God often removes feelings so you won’t depend on them. Instead, he wants to draw you into a deeper relationship with him.

Tres Maneras en que Dios te Prueba a Través de tus Finanzas
“El que confía en sus riquezas se marchitará como las hojas, pero el justo florecerá como las ramas”. Proverbios 11:28 (NBV)
Dios usa el dinero para probarte. Él no sólo da sus bendiciones en forma automática a cualquiera. Primero te mira para ver si eres responsable. Antes de que Dios te dé poder espiritual, Él te da posesiones materiales. Si no estás administrando bien tu dinero, entonces ¿por qué te daría cosas más importantes?
La herramienta favorita de Dios para ponerte a prueba son tus finanzas, y Él está buscando tres cosas específicas.
El dinero muestra lo que más amas. Le vas a dar tu mayor parte del tiempo y dinero a lo que más te gusta —y tu agenda y cuenta bancaria lo probarán. Jesús dice, “No acumulen para sí tesoros en la tierra, donde la polilla y el óxido destruyen… Más bien, acumulen para sí tesoros en el cielo, donde ni la polilla ni el óxido carcomen… Porque donde esté tu tesoro, allí estará también tu corazón” Mateo 6:19-21 (NVI). Donde quieras que esté tu corazón, allí pones tu dinero y te interesarás en ello.
El dinero muestra en lo que más confías. Muestra en lo que tienes fe. ¿Estás confiando en el dinero o en Dios, para tu seguridad? ¿Estás confiando en el dinero o en Dios para tu felicidad? Proverbios 11:28 dice: “El que confía en sus riquezas se marchitará como las hojas, pero el justo florecerá como las ramas” (NBV).
El dinero muestra si Dios puede confiar en ti. Las finanzas no administradas son un síntoma de una vida no administrada. Dios está mirando para ver qué tan bien manejas las cosas materiales antes de que te dé una bendición espiritual. La Biblia dice: “Por eso, si ustedes no han sido honrados en el uso de las riquezas mundanas, ¿quién les confiará las verdaderas? Y, si con lo ajeno no han sido honrados, ¿quién les dará a ustedes lo que les pertenece?” Lucas 16:11-12 (NVI).
Allí hay una conexión directa entre la madurez y el dinero. Hay una conexión directa entre el poder espiritual y la forma en que administras las posesiones. Hay una conexión directa entre la bendición de Dios en tu vida y lo que haces con tu dinero.
No pierdas la conexión. Cómo administras el dinero, determina cuánto Dios puede bendecir tu vida.

Trust God to Keep His Promises
“I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread."
Job 23:12 (NIV)
Do you know that admitting your hopelessness to God can be a statement of faith? Trusting God but feeling despair at the same time, David wrote, “I believed, so I said, ‘I am completely ruined’” (Psalm 116:10 NCV).
This sounds like a contradiction: I trust God, but I’m wiped out! David’s frankness actually reveals deep faith. First, he believed in God. Second, he believed God would listen to his prayer. Third, he believed God would let him say what he felt and still love him.
Regardless of your circumstances and how you feel, hang on to God’s unchanging character. Remind yourself of what you know to be eternally true about God: He is good, he loves you, he is with you, he knows what you’re going through, he cares, and he has a good plan for your life. The late Raymond Edman, who was president of Wheaton College, once said, “Never doubt in the dark what God told you in the light.”
When Job’s life fell apart and God was silent, Job still found reasons to praise God. You can praise God for these same reasons:
He is good and loving. (Job 10:12)He is all-powerful. (Job 42:2; 37:5, 23)He notices every detail of your life. (Job 23:10; 31:4)He is in control. (Job 34:13)He has a plan for your life. (Job 23:14)He will save you. (Job 19:25)During times of spiritual dryness, patiently rely on the promises of God, not your emotions. And realize that he is taking you to a deeper level of maturity, because a friendship based on emotion is shallow.
So don’t be troubled by trouble. Circumstances cannot change the character of God. God’s grace is still in full force; he is still for you, even when you don’t feel it. In the absence of confirming circumstances, Job held on to God’s Word. He said, “I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread” (Job 23:12 NIV).
This trust in God’s Word caused Job to remain faithful even though nothing in his life made sense. His faith remained strong in the middle of pain, and God honored and restored Job because of it.

When have you chosen to trust God, even when your feelings or circumstances told you not to? What was that experience like?
Look at the list in today’s devotional reasons Job chose to trust God. Which of those reasons do you need to cling to today? Why?
Whether you’re in a time of spiritual drought or abundance, make a list of all the things you know to be true about God. Keep it where you can refer to it and add to it often.
Have you trusted God’s promise of salvation through Jesus Christ?

“I’m grateful for your unconditional love. I want to use the rest of my life to love and serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Cómo ser un Administrador Sabio
“Había cierto hombre rico que tenía un administrador que manejaba sus negocios”. Lucas 16:1 (NTV)
Todo le pertenece a Dios, y solo te lo presta por unas pocas décadas. Realmente tú no posees nada. Lo que crees que tienes, realmente es prestado. No lo poseías antes de que nacieras. No lo poseerás después de que mueras.
Jesús contó una historia en Lucas 16 sobre un hombre que dejó a un administrador a cuidar de su propiedad. Todos somos administradores. Todo lo que tienes es un regalo de Dios, y Él te lo da por un tiempo para que lo administres. Él quiere ver que vas a manejar sabiamente lo que le pertenece. Dios quiere ver si serás un buen administrador de su propiedad.
Si empiezas a observar todo en tu vida como en calidad de préstamo, entonces muchas de tus preocupaciones, desaparecerán.
Imagínate si ves tu automóvil y dices: “Este es el automóvil de Dios, no el mío. Él me lo prestó, y yo lo uso”. La próxima vez que tengas un problema con tu automóvil, serás capaz de decirle: “Dios, hay un problema con mi auto. No es mi auto. Tú me lo prestaste. Me diste el dinero para comprarlo. ¿Qué quieres que haga con tu auto?”. Vas a quitarte mucha preocupación cuando confíes en Dios para que te dé sabiduría para las cosas que Él te ha confiado.
Si estás a cargo y eres el dueño de tu destino, entonces tienes que pagar por todo, tienes que preocuparte de dónde van a llegar los recursos.
Pero si confías en Dios como su hijo y te ves como un administrador, no el dueño, entonces no eres responsable de encontrar la manera de pagar por ello. Eres el empleado. Dios es el empleador. En última instancia, Él está a cargo del paquete de beneficios.
El primer versículo en esta historia dice, “Había cierto hombre rico que tenía un administrador que manejaba sus negocios” Lucas 16:1 (NTV). Pero el administrador estaba desperdiciando las posesiones de su amo.
Cada vez que desperdicias dinero, estás desperdiciando el dinero de Dios. ¡Comprender esa verdad, cambiará tu manera de comprar!
Ver tu dinero como la voluntad de Dios, cambiará tu forma de pensar. Verte a ti mismo como un administrador y no como el propietario, cambiará tu vida y te permitirá aprovechar al máximo lo que te ha sido dado.

In the Valley of the Shadow, Look to God’s Light
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."
Psalm 23:4 (ESV)
Loss is a common source of stress. You can lose your job, your health, your money, your reputation, or a loved one. But, even in the greatest season of loss, you’ll never lose God’s presence.
When people go through loss, you often see two common reactions: grief or fear. Grief is good. Grief is the way you get through the transitions of life. In fact, if you don’t grieve, you get stuck!
On the other hand, fear is a bad thing. Not once does the Bible say, “Grieve not,” “Mourn not,” “Weep not,” or “Cry not.” But it does say, “Fear not.” And it says that 365 times! Grief doesn’t paralyze you, but fear does.
David says in Psalm 23:4, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” (ESV).
Shepherds always carried a rod and a staff to protect their sheep. In the same way, David trusted that God had the tools to protect him—even in his darkest valleys.
Maybe you’re going through the valley of the shadow right now. Perhaps you’re in the valley of the shadow of death. Or it may be the valley of the shadow of debt, conflict, depression, or discouragement.
Shadows are scary. Do you remember being afraid of shadows as a kid? I’ve learned a few things about shadows.
First, shadows can’t hurt you.
Second, shadows are always bigger than the source.
And here’s more good news: You can’t have a shadow without light. So the key to going through the valley of the shadow is to turn your back on the shadow and look at the light. As long as you keep your eyes on the light—Jesus, the light of the world—the shadow won’t scare you.
That’s how you go through the valley of the shadow of death. That’s how you lower your stress. You trust God in the dark valleys—just like David, who prayed, “When I am ready to give up, he knows what I should do” (Psalm 142:3 GNT).

Dile a tu Dinero a Dónde Quiere que Vaya
“Los planes bien pensados y el arduo trabajo llevan a la prosperidad, pero los atajos tomados a la carrera conducen a la pobreza”. Proverbios 21:5 (NTV)
Para llegar a ser financieramente responsable y experimentar con Dios en esta área, debes reconocer a Dios como tu proveedor, darle el primer 10 por ciento de tu ingreso, mantener un buen registro, ahorrar para el futuro, y pagar lo que debes. Luego, debes planificar tus gastos. Este es el hábito espiritual de presupuestar.
Un presupuesto es simplemente un gasto planeado. Le dices a tu dinero a dónde quiere que vaya, en lugar de preguntarte a dónde se fue. La única forma de cumplir con tus objetivos financieros, es determinar cómo deseas usar tu dinero y luego hacer un plan para que suceda de esa manera.
La libertad financiera no viene de hacer más. Viene de gastar menos. La libertad financiera no se basa en cuánto ganas. Se basa en cómo gastas lo que ganas. Puedes ser financieramente libre con cualquier nivel de ingresos.
Si no sabes cómo manejar el dinero en tu nivel actual, no vas a saber cómo manejar más. Tienes que aprender a planificar tus gastos.
Proverbios 21:5 dice: “Los planes bien pensados y el arduo trabajo llevan a la prosperidad, pero los atajos tomados a la carrera conducen a la pobreza”. Actuar demasiado rápido hoy, equivale a comprar por impulso. Es un gasto espontáneo y no planificado —lo ves y lo quieres, así que lo adquieres.
¿Cómo se rompe el hábito de la compra por impulso? ¡Lo cortas del presupuesto! Le dices a tu dinero a dónde quiere que vaya. Estableces un plan.
Entonces, compras menos. Si tienes deudas, el último lugar al que debes ir para relajarte, es al centro comercial. Si no quieres ser picado, ¡aléjate de las abejas! Estudio tras estudio han mostrado que si compras menos, gastas menos.
Cuando sea difícil cambiar tus hábitos de gasto, sentarte y escribir tu presupuesto y apegarte a él, recuerda que Dios te está observando. Él quiere ver nuestra fidelidad en la administración del dinero, y Él te ayudará a tomar todos los pasos necesarios para que te conviertas en un administrador responsable de lo que Él te ha dado.

God Created the Sabbath for You
“Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest."
Exodus 34:21 (NIV)
The Bible is filled with instructions about rest and recreation. In fact, rest and recreation are so important that God gives them a special name: Sabbath. He even put Sabbath in the Ten Commandments—right up there with “Don’t commit adultery” and “Don’t murder.” God says that on the seventh day of every week, you should take a day off. That’s how important a Sabbath is in your life.
Jesus said in Mark 2:27, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” (NIV). In other words, it’s God’s idea that you take a day off every seven days for rest, recreation, worship, and restoration. He did this for your own benefit—so you don’t burn out.
But in our modern society, many people don’t take a Sabbath. Even on their days off, they’re working. Many people who attend a church service go home afterward and get right back to work, finishing all the things they didn’t get done during their workweek. That’s not a Sabbath!
This is what it means to have a Sabbath: “Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest” (Exodus 34:21 NIV).
Even in your busiest season, God wants you to take a day of rest. You may be a tax accountant, but you still have to take a day off during tax season. You may work in retail, but you still have to take a day off during the Christmas season. Even a farmer must take a day off during the harvest or planting season.
What are you supposed to do on your Sabbath?
Rest your body. Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is take a nap.Refocus your spirit. Spend time in worship.Recharge your emotions. Do something that restores and reenergizes you, like a hobby or a sport.It doesn’t really matter which day is your Sabbath. It does matter that you are obedient. You may not rest just because your spouse or your boss tells you to take a break. But you must rest when God commands it—and he always knows what’s best for you.

Ahorra para Mañana; No Estés Solamente Viviendo para Hoy
“Los sabios tienen riquezas y lujos, pero los necios gastan todo lo que consiguen”. Proverbios 21:20 (NTV)
John D. Rockefeller fue el hombre más rico de su tiempo. Es famoso por haberle preguntado varias veces sobre el secreto de sus riquezas. Su respuesta se hizo conocida como su principio 10-10-80. Él le decía a la gente que se hizo rico dándole a Dios el primer 10 por ciento de lo que hacía. El segundo 10 por ciento lo destinaba al ahorro y él aprendió a vivir del 80 por ciento restante.
Proverbios 21:20 dice: “Los sabios tienen riquezas y lujos, pero los necios gastan todo lo que consiguen” (NTV).
Ahorrar es una forma en que Dios te pone a prueba en tus finanzas, para ver si eres responsable de lo que te ha dado. Si estás ahorrando para el futuro en este momento, eso es inteligente. Si no estás guardando nada, eso es una tontería. Dios quiere que diezmes, y luego quiere que ahorres para el futuro.
Puedes pensar que no puedes vivir con un 80 por ciento, pero eso solo significa que estás viviendo más allá de tus posibilidades. No estás administrando bien tu dinero. Estás gastando más de lo que realmente tienes. Recuerda, esta es una prueba. ¿Quieres que Dios te encuentre siendo fiel con tu dinero?
El principio 10-10-80 es exactamente lo contrario de lo que enseña nuestra cultura. La cultura dice que primero pagues todas tus cuentas, pero luego no tienes dinero para ahorrar ni diezmar. Dios dice: “Págame a mí primero (diezmo), luego págate a ti mismo (ahorro), y después de eso paga tus facturas”. Ese es el orden que Dios bendice.
Si no estás ahorrando nada, tienes una mentalidad de “vivir para hoy”. Aquí es donde piensas: “Lo tengo ahora, así que lo gastaré ahora. ¡Me olvido del mañana!
Dios no solamente quiere que pienses en el mañana. Él quiere que planees para mañana para que tengas suficiente para hacer las cosas que Él quiere que hagas. Es inteligente posponer una compra hoy, que te permitirá vivir mejor tu propósito mañana.
¡Puedes hacerlo! Ahorrar es una disciplina espiritual, y Dios te dará toda la gracia que necesitas para tomar las decisiones más difíciles.
No vivas solo para hoy. Aprende a hacer lo que sea necesario para poder ahorrar parte de tu dinero para el futuro. Esta es la forma en que Dios hace las cosas. Cuando ignoras los principios de Dios, estás trayendo estrés financiero.
Cuando lo haces a la manera de Dios, siempre funciona.
