Four Habits to Fortify Your Faith

“Spend your time and energy in the exercise of keeping spiritually fit."
1 Timothy 4:7 (TLB)
If you want God to use you—fortify your faith.
The Bible says in 1 Timothy 4:7, “Spend your time and energy in the exercise of keeping spiritually fit” (TLB).
Do you ever wake up thinking, “I get to exercise today?” I certainly don’t. But I do know that we all need both physical and spiritual exercise. I also know this about exercise: I want the most benefit I can get out of every minute I exercise, whether it’s physical or spiritual.
I’d like to help you get the most out of your spiritual exercise by giving you four spiritual habits that will fortify your faith.
1. Study the Bible. You need to study the Bible personally. You can’t depend on someone else’s study of the Bible to fortify your faith. You have to do it yourself.
The Bible says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT).
God’s Word is the “Get Ready” manual for life. If you want to get ready to be used by God, you’ve got to study the Bible.
2. Read Christian books. Proverbs 19:8 says, “Do yourself a favor and learn all you can” (GNT). You learn a lot more when you read books that help you grow spiritually.
3. Write out your testimony. The Bible says in 1 Peter 3:15, “Always be ready to answer everyone who asks you to explain about the hope you have” (NCV). Just like nobody else can study for you, nobody else can tell your story. There are four parts to a testimony: what your life was like before you came to Christ, how you realized you needed Christ in your life, how you committed your life to Christ, and what your life is like now.
4. Join a small group. The Bible says, “Encourage each other and build each other up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11 NLT). When it comes to fortifying your faith, few things can compare to regular contact with your small group. If you are not in a small group, find people who you can share life with and who will support you as you grow in faith.
These four habits will help you stay spiritually fit so that you’re ready to be used by God. Which one will you start practicing today?
.fb-background-color { background: #ffffff !important; } .fb_iframe_widget_fluid_desktop iframe { width: 100% !important; } PLAY today’s audio teaching from Pastor Rick >>Talk It Over
Why do you think the process of writing down your testimony is helpful?
What are some ways you and your small group can help each other grow in faith?
How can you make reading Christian books more engaging and interesting? (For example, you could read a book with a group of friends and meet to discuss it.) Start reading a Christian book this week and find ways to make it more engaging for you.
Do you have a testimony about Jesus transforming your life? If you haven’t trusted in Jesus and committed to following him, why wait any longer?
You don’t have to earn God’s love or work your way into heaven. The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).
If you’re ready to commit your life to him, then pray this prayer:
“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.
“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.
“I want to use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Entrégale tu corazón a Jesús.
Acerca a otras personas a Jesús.
¿Por qué piensas que darle un regalo a Jesús es considerado algo muy raro durante la temporada navideña?¿Qué piensas que significa poner a Jesús primero en tus problemas?¿Cuál de los regalos mencionados en el devocional de hoy quieres comprometerte a darle a Jesús en Navidad?Síguenos en Instagram & Facebook Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más?Si estás listo para cruzar esa línea y tomar la decisión de creer en Jesucristo y seguirlo;

How to Fill Your Life with Peace

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart! And the peace I give isn’t fragile like the peace the world gives. So don’t be troubled or afraid."
John 14:27 (TLB)
When you make room for Jesus, he gives you one of the greatest gifts: “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart! And the peace I give isn’t fragile like the peace the world gives. So don’t be troubled or afraid” (John 14:27 TLB).
The kind of peace the world gives is temporary. In the last 300 years, about 260 peace treaties have been signed—and almost none of them were kept.
The peace that comes from the world is totally circumstantial. If you have a good job, then you’re at peace. But if you lose your job, then you’re not at peace anymore. If you’ve got money in the bank, then you’re at peace. But when that money is gone, then you’re not at peace anymore.
Jesus gives you a different kind of peace. The Bible calls it “peace . . . which surpasses all understanding” (Philippians 4:7 ESV).
What does that mean? It means you have peace when there’s no obvious or visible reason why you should be at peace. Everything around you could be in chaos, but for some unexplainable reason, you are at peace. That is the peace that surpasses understanding—and it can only come from Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Jesus wants to give you that kind of peace this Christmas so you won’t be troubled or afraid.
Whenever Jesus walks into a room, he fills that room with peace. Do you have rooms in your heart that are full of worry, upset, anxiety, or fear? Those are the rooms you haven’t invited Jesus into. Your worries reveal the areas you have not given over to God. That could include your finances, your dating life, your career, your parenting, your schedule, or your ministry. Whatever it is, you have to let it go. You have to give it over to Jesus.
Here’s the only way you’re going to have real peace this Christmas: Give every part of your life to God to use for his purpose. Then you’ll have peace that will stand up to all of life’s pressures.
.fb-background-color { background: #ffffff !important; } .fb_iframe_widget_fluid_desktop iframe { width: 100% !important; } PLAY today’s audio teaching from Pastor Rick >>Talk It Over
Are your home and heart filled with peace? What makes you give the answer you did?
Which “room” of your heart causes anxiety or fear?
What do you think God wants you to do or say to show him that you have surrendered to him a part of your life that has been causing you to worry?
The peace that passes all understanding starts with Jesus. It starts by making peace with your Creator. Your sins separate you from God. And it is only by God’s grace that you can get back into a right relationship with him.
The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).
Are you ready to make peace with God this Christmas and find the peace that passes all understanding? Then pray this prayer:
“Dear Jesus, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. You have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.
“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.
“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Jesús vino a rescatarnos. Jesús vino a restaurarnos. Jesús vino a reconectarnos.
¿Cuál de las facetas de la salvación ha sido la más importante en tu relación con Dios? ¿Por qué?¿Cómo puedes “desempacar” a Jesús, el regalo de Dios en esta Navidad? ¿En qué otras formas puedes contarles a otros acerca de este regalo?¿Qué puedes hacer para celebrar mejor el nacimiento de Jesús?Síguenos en Instagram & Facebook Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más?Si estás listo para cruzar esa línea y tomar la decisión de creer en Jesucristo y seguirlo;

Open Your Whole Heart to Jesus

“Listen! I am standing and knocking at your door. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and we will eat together."
Revelation 3:20 (CEV)
Have you ever considered what the innkeeper must have thought that first Christmas when he realized he didn’t make room for the Son of God? Here’s how I think his testimony might have been written:
“It was the busiest season I had ever seen as an innkeeper, a once-in-a-lifetime business bonanza for me, courtesy of Caesar Augustus and his census. Overnight lodging was in great demand. My inn was booked solid for a month, and that income set me up for life.
“But then that couple showed up. How was I to know who they were? They looked no different than a dozen other families that I’d already turned away. So I just said, ‘Sorry, we’re booked. We have no vacancies. There is no room for you.’
“I thought I would at least do them a favor and allow them to sleep with the animals in the stable behind the inn. Obviously, I didn’t know who they were. But for all of history and the rest of eternity, I’ll be known as the man who said, ‘Sorry, no room.’ I’m the one who put the Savior of the world out back with the animals. That’s my legacy: I didn’t make room for Jesus.
“I missed Jesus because I was too busy to realize what God was doing right in front of me. It was an inconvenient time for Jesus to show up, so I just pushed him off in a corner. But now that I think about it, it seems that there’s always some distraction, inconvenience, or preoccupation to use as an excuse not to make room for Jesus.
“If I could do it all over, I would have given him the whole inn. I missed the knock on my door. But for you, there’s still time to receive him. There’s still time to look at your life, to consider whether your rooms are filled with what matters most or if they’re just cluttered. You still have time to reserve a place for the most important guest of all.”
When Jesus knocks, you can give him the welcome and the reception that he deserves as your Creator and Savior and King of Kings. And he will knock, because your heart was designed for God to live in. In fact, he’s knocking right now. Can you hear him? Are you paying attention? Will you open the door?
.fb-background-color { background: #ffffff !important; } .fb_iframe_widget_fluid_desktop iframe { width: 100% !important; } PLAY today’s audio teaching from Pastor Rick >>Talk It Over
Most people have one particular distraction they go back to every time they need an excuse not to spend time with God and study the Bible. What is that particular distraction for you?
What does it mean for Jesus to knock at the door of your heart? How has that happened in your life?
What is one way you can make room for Jesus today?
Open your heart to Jesus today
Have you ever opened your heart to Jesus and received the salvation he offers? If you’re ready to do that today, pray this prayer:
“Dear God, I hear you knocking at the door of my heart, and I want to open it up to you. I confess that I have sinned and that I need your forgiveness and mercy. Thank you for loving me so much that you sent Jesus to die for my sins, so that I can be forgiven.
“Jesus, you promised that anyone who believes in you will not perish but have everlasting life and eternity with you in heaven. I believe in you and accept you as my Lord and Savior. I want to allow you into all the rooms of my heart and spend the rest of my life serving you. Amen.”

Jesús vino a Reconectarte

Jesucristo prefirió morir por ti que vivir sin ti eternamente. ¿Hay algo que esté impidiendo que te reconectes con Dios?Dios ha preparado tu futuro y quiere perdonar tu pasado. ¿Te reconectarás con Él en el presente?Síguenos en Instagram & Facebook Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más?Si estás listo para cruzar esa línea y tomar la decisión de creer en Jesucristo y seguirlo;

Make Time for What Matters at Christmas

“Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.'”
Luke 10:41-42 (NIV)
This Christmas, you need to do less, not more. By simplifying your life, you’ll have more enjoyment, more fulfillment, and less stress.
At one of the busiest times of the year, you need to make sure you’re filling your calendar, your mind, and your heart with what’s important, not trivial things that won’t even matter in five years, much less for eternity.
The trivial things I’m talking about are not evil things. You can fill your life with good things that keep you from spending time with God. You can be involved in ministry all the time and be so busy working for God that you don’t leave God any time to work in you.
An example of this is Mary and Martha, who were sisters and also friends of Jesus. One day they invited him to their home for a meal. Mary sat at the feet of Jesus, listening to his teaching. Martha was busy worrying about the food and making sure everything was in place.
Doesn’t that sound like Christmas? You spend months buying and wrapping gifts, decorating the house, putting up the lights, fixing the tree, sending out the cards, preparing the meals, planning parties. Then, when Christmas arrives, you realize you were so busy with the preparation that you didn’t make any time for Jesus.
“Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, ‘Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!’ ‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her’” (Luke 10:40-42 NIV).
Mary knew there was one thing worth her time: getting to know the Son of God.
Nothing else will matter in eternity. God didn’t put you on Earth just to work and then retire. He put you here so you can get to know him.
My wish for you this Christmas is that you would stop, take a breath, and shift your focus to the one thing that matters most in this life: Jesus.

¿En qué área necesitas ser rescatado?Al observar tu vida, ¿logras identificar áreas donde simplemente las das por perdidas?¿Piensas que hay áreas donde es demasiado tarde para recuperarlas? Dios dice “les devolveré lo que perdieron”, ¿Qué necesitas recuperar?Síguenos en Instagram & Facebook Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más?Si estás listo para cruzar esa línea y tomar la decisión de creer en Jesucristo y seguirlo;

This Christmas, Get to Know Your Savior

“He came to the world that was his own, but his own people did not accept him. But to all who did accept him and believe in him he gave the right to become children of God."
John 1:11-12 (NCV)
Nobody’s perfect. That’s pretty common knowledge! I’ve met thousands of people as I’ve traveled around the world, and I’ve never met anybody who claimed to be sinless.
I don’t measure up to my own standards, much less God’s—and you don’t either. We all have flaws, and we all make fumbles.
That’s why you need to know Jesus, the Savior who came to die for your sins.
Heaven is a perfect place—no sorrow, sadness, or sickness. Heaven is beyond your wildest dreams! Heaven is perfect, but you and I are not. If God let imperfect people into heaven, then it wouldn’t be a perfect place. If God let us into heaven, with all of our imperfections, then heaven would be no better than Earth.
But God had a plan: He came to Earth at Christmastime. He sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to live a perfect life in your place. Then Jesus died to pay for all of your sins so you don’t have to. You get to go to heaven by just trusting him. What a deal!
“He came to the world that was his own, but his own people did not accept him. But to all who did accept him and believe in him he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:11-12 NCV).
When you trust in Jesus as Savior, you get to become a part of God’s family, and that family is going to last forever.
God created everybody. God loves everybody. God has a purpose for everybody. But God is only the Father of those who choose to become a part of his family by meeting the family requirements: Believe in the Son he sent at Christmas. That’s the condition.
God made you, but he also saved you. The reason he came at Christmas was to die for all your sins.
I can’t think of a better reason to give him your focus and devotion.

How does knowing that you are saved by grace and not your works help you relax in your everyday tasks during the busy Christmas season?
Why do you think God wants you to choose him? Why doesn’t everyone get to call him Father?
What are some practical steps you can take to shift your focus to Jesus this Christmas?
Trust Jesus as Your Savior today
What better time than Christmas to trust Jesus as your Savior? If you’re ready to commit your life to him today, then pray this prayer:
“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.
“I confess my sin, and I believe that you are God, my Savior. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning every part of my life over to you. I want to follow you and do what you tell me to do.
“Jesus, I am grateful for your love and for your sacrifice that makes it possible for me to join you in heaven. I know I don’t deserve it. And I thank you that I don’t have to earn or work for my salvation, because I know that is impossible. I want to use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I humbly commit my life to you, and I ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
