How Do You Get Back to God?

“When you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed."

Jeremiah 29:13 (The Message)

No matter how far you are from God today, there is a pathway back to him.

I don’t know where you are right now. Maybe you haven’t been to church in years, or you’ve just been distant for a month or two. Maybe you’ve had one of those weeks where you thought, “I really don’t feel God’s presence in my life.” And yet you long to be close to God.

How do you get back to him?

Here is a pathway to spiritual transformation—the three things you need to do to get back to God:

Realize you need to change. Nothing is going to change in your life until you get dissatisfied with the way you are. You need to get to the point where you say, “I don’t like this. I’m tired of being stressed out all the time. I’m tired of being frustrated all the time. I’m tired of being overworked all the time. I’m tired of feeling distant from God.”

Why does God let you get to that point? Because he loves you just the way you are, but he loves you too much to let you stay that way. He will not let you waste your life.

God says in Jeremiah 29:13, “When you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed” (The Message).

Own up to your sin. Isaiah 59:2 says, “The trouble is that your sins have cut you off from God. Because of sin he has turned his face away from you” (TLB).

Have you ever prayed and felt like God was a million miles away or like there was a wall between you and God?

Where does that distance come from? Your sins have separated you from God. But if you feel far from God, guess who moved? You! God has always been there. He loves you unconditionally, and he’s waiting for you to own up to your sin so you can have a right relationship with him again.

Give up control. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 3:18, “We all show the Lord’s glory, and we are being changed to be like him. This change in us brings ever greater glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” (NCV).

True transformation happens when your heart moves from self-centeredness to God-centeredness. Are you there yet?

That transformation doesn’t happen overnight. God is going to work on you your entire life. But to start the process, you have to make a decision to repent and, “in view of God’s mercy, to offer your [body] as a living sacrifice” (Romans 12:1 NIV).

God wants to be close to you. And he promises that when you seriously seek him, you will not be disappointed. Watch expectantly how God works in your life this coming year as you seek him with all your heart, mind, and soul.

Talk It Over

Why is it sometimes difficult to let go of the things that cause you stress?
How does confessing sin open the door to spiritual growth and drawing closer to Jesus?

“I confess my sin, and I receive you into my life as my Lord and Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. Today I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.

“I’m grateful for your unconditional love. I want to use the rest of my life to love and serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Seis Promesas de Dios para tu Futuro — 1ª Parte

“Pero el Señor es fiel; él los fortalecerá y los protegerá del maligno”. 2 Tesalonisenses 3:3 (NTV)

Mientras este año termina, seguramente hemos estado observando lo que nos espera el próximo año; quizá estos tiempos pueden llegar a producir incertidumbre y temor, como nunca antes.

Si estás sintiendo ansiedad o preocupación en tu vida, debes saber que cada temor es una malinterpretación de quién es Dios y de lo que ha prometido. Si supieras realmente quién es Dios y lo que ha prometido, no tendrías temor, no estuvieras ansioso por tu futuro, no estarías preocupado o nervioso de lo que va a suceder mañana.

Por eso necesitas conocer las promesas que Dios tiene para tu futuro:

Dios promete guiarte cuando estés confundido

En la vida debemos tomar decisiones diariamente; algunas de suma importancia. La Biblia dice en Proverbios 3:5-6 “Confía en el Señor con todo tu corazón; no dependas de tu propio entendimiento. Busca su voluntad en todo lo que hagas, y él te mostrará cuál camino tomar” (NTV). Dios quiere que tomes las decisiones adecuadas y Él promete ayudarte siempre. Especialmente cuando no tienes claridad. Dios tiene una perspectiva de tu vida y del futuro que tú desesperadamente necesitas tener.           

Dios promete ayudarte cuando seas tentado

La mala noticia es que jamás vamos a ser lo suficientemente maduros para no ser tentados. De hecho, mientras más maduro seas, más serás tentado. La buena noticia es que ser tentado no es pecado, pecas cuando caes en la tentación, y las mejores noticias son estas; Dios ha prometido proporcionar una salida de la tentación. La Biblia dice esto en 1 Corintios 10:13 “Las tentaciones que enfrentan en su vida no son distintas de las que otros atraviesan. Y Dios es fiel; no permitirá que la tentación sea mayor de lo que puedan soportar. Cuando sean tentados, él les mostrará una salida, para que puedan resistir” (NTV).

Dios promete apoyarte cuando te encuentres en problemas

Vas a tener problemas porque vivimos en un planeta quebrantado. Muchos cristianos esperan que la vida sea como el Cielo y no estamos en el Cielo, esperan que todo sea perfecto, se preguntan, “ahora que soy cristiano, ¿no todo debería ser perfecto?”. Claro que no, Jesús dijo “en el mundo tendrán aflicciones”, pero también prometió en Isaías 43:2-3 lo siguiente: “Cuando pases por aguas profundas, yo estaré contigo. Cuando pases por ríos de dificultad, no te ahogarás. Cuando pases por el fuego de la opresión, no te quemarás; las llamas no te consumirán. Pues yo soy el Señor, tu Dios” (NTV). Dios te ayudará en tus problemas y te dará la fuerza para enfrentarlos.

Hablaremos de las otras tres promesas que Dios tiene para tu futuro en el devocional de mañana.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

Cuando no tengo claridad para tomar una decisión, ¿a quién acudo primero para adquirir claridad? Dios conoce todas las cosas, está en todo lugar y tiene todo el poder, ¡Él es el mejor consejero! ¿No debería ser Él, el primero en tu lista?Piensa por un momento en tus tentaciones y cuántas veces satanás te ha hecho sentir culpable por ser tentado. Jesús fue tentado en “todo” pero no pecó. Godly Goals Give You Hope to Endure

“I have not yet reached my goal, and I am not perfect. But Christ has taken hold of me. So I keep on running and struggling to take hold of the prize."

Philippians 3:12 (CEV)

Yesterday we talked about three reasons you need to set goals. Today we’re going to talk about three more reasons why goal setting is so important that even Jesus set goals for himself.

Set goals because they give you hope to keep moving and endure. Job said, “What strength do I have left that I can go on hoping? What goal do I have that I would want to prolong my life?” (Job 6:11 GW). You need a goal to keep you going.

To motivate you, a goal doesn’t have to be big. For instance, if you needed surgery, your first goal in recovery could be to sit up in bed. Then you might work toward standing up and later walking down the hallway.

Those are small goals, but they’re all important. To get from where you are to where you want to be isn’t done in one big leap. It’s many small steps. A goal doesn’t have to be big to be important. Even small goals encourage you to carry on.

Set goals because they build your character. The greatest benefit to your life will not be your accomplishments but rather what happens inside you while you’re moving toward your goal.

God is more interested in your character than your accomplishments. While you’re working on your goal, God is working on you. He is building your character, because that’s what will last for eternity.

That’s why Paul said in Philippians 3:12, “I keep on running and struggling to take hold of the prize” (CEV). It takes energy, effort, and purpose to reach your goal, and the result is that you become more like Christ.

Set goals because good goals will be rewarded. Proverbs 11:27 says, “If your goals are good, you will be respected” (GNT). When you give your life to a good goal, it brings honor and builds a legacy on earth. But the real reward in setting good goals is going to come in eternity.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 9:25-26, “All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step” (NLT). Paul was a purpose driven goal setter. God wants you to be one, too, so that you can win the prize he has prepared for you in heaven.

Cuatro Verdades acerca de Dios y tu Futuro

“…en tu libro se escribieron todos los días que me fueron dados, cuando no existía ni uno solo de ellos”.  Salmo 139:16 (NBLA)  

El resto de tu vida está en el futuro y hay dos cosas que puedo decir acerca de eso, la primera es que no sabes cómo será, y la segunda es que no lo puedes controlar. Es por esto que debo interesarme en lo que Dios tiene que decir acerca de mi futuro, porque no sé lo que pasará mañana o el próximo año, ninguno de nosotros lo sabe y ciertamente no lo podemos controlar. Una de las formas en las que intentamos controlarlo es preocupándonos, pero eso no vale la pena, no funciona.

Existen cuatro verdades acerca de Dios y tu futuro que debes conocer:

1. Dios conoce todo lo que sucederá

Dios ya sabe todo lo que sucederá en tu vida, Él conoce el inicio y el final. A esto se le llama omnisciencia de Dios. Quiere decir que Dios sabe todo, no hay nada que Dios no sepa, no hay nada que suceda en tu vida que sorprenda a Dios. La Biblia dice en Hebreos 4:13, “Ninguna cosa creada escapa a la vista de Dios. Todo está al descubierto, expuesto a los ojos de aquel a quien hemos de rendir cuentas” (NVI).

2. El plan de Dios para mi futuro es bueno

Dios no tiene planes malos para las personas. Dios es un Dios bueno y por eso todos sus planes son buenos, la Biblia dice en Jeremías 29:11, “Porque yo sé muy bien los planes que tengo para ustedes —afirma el Señor—, planes de bienestar y no de calamidad, a fin de darles un futuro y una esperanza” (NVI). Esta es una promesa de Dios para tu futuro, planes de prosperidad, planes para no hacerte daño, para darte esperanza y un futuro. Lo que dice aquí es que Dios ha pensado más en tu futuro que tú mismo.

3. Debo elegir confiar y obedecer a Dios

Para cumplir con mi propósito, debo elegir confiar y obedecer a Dios. Dios sabe todo lo que va a suceder y Él tiene un buen plan para mi vida, pero debo elegir ese plan, debo elegir confiar en Dios, debo elegir obedecer a Dios, cada día debo tomar una decisión: elegir lo que Dios dice que haga o hacer lo que yo quiera, hacer lo que dice la Biblia o hacer lo que yo crea que es correcto y conveniente. Esto es lo que la Biblia dice en Deuteronomio 30:19, “Hoy pongo al cielo y a la tierra por testigos contra ti, de que te he dado a elegir entre la vida y la muerte, entre la bendición y la maldición. Elige, pues, la vida, para que vivan tú y tus descendientes” (NVI).

4. Dios estará conmigo en cada paso del camino

Una de las promesas de Dios más repetidas en la Biblia es esta: “No vas a estar solo, nunca te dejaré, nunca me olvidaré de ti, nunca te abandonaré, estaré contigo, mi presencia estará contigo”. Lo dice cientos de veces porque Dios te hizo para que estés conectado con Él.

Hebreos 13:5-6 dice: “Manténganse libres del amor al dinero, y conténtense con lo que tienen, porque Dios ha dicho: «Nunca te dejaré; jamás te abandonaré». Así que podemos decir con toda confianza: «El Señor es quien me ayuda; no temeré. ¿Qué me puede hacer un simple mortal?” (NVI).

¿Por qué esa promesa habla del amor al dinero y del contentamiento? Bueno, Dios está diciendo, “Nunca te dejaré; jamás te abandonaré, ¿de qué te preocupas? si yo estoy contigo, ¿no crees que puedo suplir todas tus necesidades?”.

Para reflexionar:

¿Has pensado que hay cosas en tu vida que Dios no esperaba de ti? Él conoce tu vida entera y aun así ha decidido amarte.¿Has llegado a pensar que Dios tiene planes malos, si no haces tu vida a Su manera? ¿Qué dice Jeremías 29:11? Faith Helps You Focus Your Goals

“God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!"

Ephesians 3:20 (The Message)

We know that setting goals is important because the Bible tells us that Jesus set goals. In fact, he often announced publicly his goal for the next phase of his ministry.

So why should you set goals? Today we’re going to talk about three reasons to set goals, and tomorrow we’ll talk about three more.

Set goals because it is your spiritual responsibility. If you don’t have goals for your life, you have already decided to let other people run your life. When you don’t decide in advance what’s important, you’re letting other people decide. You end up wasting your life, because you haven’t clarified how you want to grow as a follower of Christ.

The Bible says that, to be spiritually mature, you have to set goals and move toward them.

“I have not yet reached my goal, and I am not perfect. But Christ has taken hold of me. So I keep on running and struggling to take hold of the prize . . . I run toward the goal, so that I can win the prize of being called to heaven. This is the prize that God offers because of what Christ Jesus has done. All of us who are mature should think in this same way” (Philippians 3:12, 14-15 CEV).

Set goals because they are statements of faith. If you’re a believer in Jesus Christ and you set a goal, you’re saying, “I believe that God wants me to accomplish this by this time. This is what I believe God is going to do in my life.”

Goals aren’t just a statement of faith. They stretch your faith. The bigger your goal, the more your faith will be stretched. And that pleases God.

Ephesians 3:20 says, “God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!” (The Message).

Set goals because they focus your energy. Focus is the key to an effective life. If you spread your energy out and diffuse it over many things, you’ll reduce your impact. But a focused life is powerful and can change the world.

You don’t have time to do everything. But here’s the good news: God doesn’t expect you to do everything! The key to being effective in life as a follower of Jesus is to do what matters most and forget everything else. Goals help you maintain that kind of focus.

1 Corinthians 9:26 says it this way: “I do not run without a goal. I fight like a boxer who is hitting something—not just the air” (NCV).

I humbly commit my life to you, and I ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Cómo Obtener la Ayuda que Necesitas Hoy

“Cuando cruces las aguas, yo estaré contigo; cuando cruces los ríos, no te cubrirán sus aguas; cuando camines por el fuego, no te quemarás ni te abrasarán las llamas. Yo soy el Señor, tu Dios, el Santo de Israel, tu Salvador”. Isaías 43:2-3 (NVI)

Cuando te convertiste en cristiano, ¿esperabas que la vida de repente fuera perfecta?

Si lo hiciste, apuesto a que descubriste bastante rápido que hay todo tipo de pruebas para los cristianos, incluidas las financieras, físicas, mentales y en tus relaciones. Algunas personas esperan que la vida sea el Cielo en la tierra. ¡Pero esto no es el Cielo!

Oramos para que se haga la voluntad de Dios en la tierra como en el Cielo, pero en la tierra la voluntad de Dios rara vez se hace. Todo en este planeta es imperfecto. El clima, la economía, nuestros cuerpos y nuestras relaciones no siempre funcionan bien. Podemos estar seguros de que, debido al pecado, sucederán cosas malas.

También podemos estar seguros de apoyarnos en las promesas de Dios para los problemas que enfrentaremos en esta tierra.

“Cuando cruces las aguas, yo estaré contigo; cuando cruces los ríos, no te cubrirán sus aguas; cuando camines por el fuego, no te quemarás ni te abrasarán las llamas. Yo soy el Señor, tu Dios, el Santo de Israel, tu Salvador” Isaías 43:2-3 (NVI).

Cuando atraviesas aguas profundas y ríos de dificultad, Dios no promete que no vas a mojarte. Vas a pasar por algunos problemas que causan dolor. Te vas a mojar. Pero Dios promete que no te vas a ahogar. Cuando pases por el fuego, hará calor. Pero Dios promete que no te vas a quemar. Vas a lograrlo.

Filipenses 4:13 dice: “Cristo me da fuerzas para enfrentarme a toda clase de situaciones” (TLA). Eso no significa que puedas hacer cualquier cosa por ser quién eres. Significa que puedes tener confianza en que cualquier problema que la vida te traiga, lo enfrentarás con el poder de Cristo en ti.

Es posible que no te sientas muy fuerte en este momento. Pero la fuerza que necesitas llegará cuando la necesites. La Biblia no dice que le pidas a Dios tu pan semanal o mensual. Nos dice que oremos: “Dios, danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día. Necesito la fuerza suficiente para hoy”.

Dios te apoyará en tus problemas. Él siempre te da la fuerza que necesitas para hoy.

Get the Power to Go After Your Goals

“We plan the way we want to live, but only GOD makes us able to live it."

Proverbs 16:9 (The Message)

You get to plan the way you want to live, but only God gives you the power and energy to experience transformation. Why? Because God provides the three things you must have to reach your goals and change your life.

God’s Spirit to empower you
You need God’s help to make changes you can’t make on your own. Life-change is not based on willpower. It’s based on God’s power. It’s not based on trying. It’s based on trusting.

Zechariah 4:6 says, “‘You will not succeed by your own strength or by your own power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord All-Powerful” (NCV).

God’s Word to guide you
The Bible is the owner’s manual for life. The more you read it, study it, memorize it, and meditate on it, the more successful and fulfilled you’re going to be.

When Joshua was given the great dream of taking over the Promised Land—a goal that would take him the rest of his life—God spoke these words to him: “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will achieve success” (Joshua 1:8 NASB).

God’s people to support you
You will not be able to reach your goals on your own. It takes a team to fulfill a dream! Ecclesiastes 4:12 says, “By yourself you’re unprotected. With a friend you can face the worst. Can you round up a third? A three-stranded rope isn’t easily snapped” (The Message).

A crowd can’t support you, but a small group can. The people in your small group know when you’re sick, when you’re having a tough time, and when you need a break. You can share your goals, successes, and failures. They will rejoice with you and encourage you to keep going. You’re going to need their support to help you make and pursue the right kind of goals.

Have you been trying to reach your goals and change your life on your own? It’s time to stop flying solo and learn to rely on the Holy Spirit, God’s Word, and God’s people.

Por Jesús, Vale la Pena el Viaje

“Jesús nació en Belén de Judea… Después de su nacimiento, llegaron a Jerusalén unos sabios del oriente”. Mateo 2:1 (PDT)

La búsqueda de la verdad no es un trabajo de medio tiempo. Toma todo lo que tienes. Los Sabios de Oriente nos enseñan esto en la historia de la Navidad.

Los Sabios del Oriente estaban dispuestos a ir a cualquier distancia para encontrar la verdad. Mateo 2:1 dice: “Jesús nació en Belén de Judea… Después de su nacimiento, llegaron a Jerusalén unos sabios del oriente“ (PDT). Podemos suponer que los Sabios del Oriente viajaron muchas millas desde el Lejano Oriente al Oriente Medio a un gran costo para encontrar a Jesús.

Jesús nació en Belén, que está a sólo seis millas de Jerusalén. En el momento del nacimiento de Jesús, Jerusalén era el centro espiritual del mundo. Todo tipo de actividad espiritual se llevaba a cabo en Jerusalén. Todos los principales líderes religiosos del mundo se encontraban en Jerusalén, pero ninguno de ellos estaba buscando a Jesús. Sólo las personas en el exterior —los Sabios de una cultura completamente diferente— estaban buscando a Jesús.

El rey Herodes no vio al niño Jesús. Lo mismo ocurrió con los empresarios de Belén. Tú también puedes tener a Jesús frente a ti y aún así no verlo si no lo buscas.

Pero los Sabios del Oriente buscaron a Jesús. Estaban dispuestos a hacer un viaje de cuatro o cinco meses a través de un desierto abrasador para encontrar a Jesús. Ellos tomaron muy en serio la búsqueda de Dios. Estaban dispuestos a hacer lo que fuera necesario para encontrarlo.

Eso es sabio. Es lo que nosotros tenemos que hacer también. No puedes dejar que nada se interponga en tu búsqueda de Dios. Es lo más importante que puedes hacer en tu vida.

Jesús dijo que el Reino de los Cielos es como una perla que es tan valiosa que venderíamos todo lo que tenemos para obtenerla. Parece que los Sabios del Oriente lo entendieron mucho antes de que Jesús lo hablara en una parábola.

Los Sabios de Oriente estaban dispuestos a renunciar a todo lo que tenían para adorar a Jesús. Ellos estaban dispuestos a renunciar a la comodidad de sus hogares por un largo y duro viaje, porque tenían el motivo correcto para buscar a Jesús. Querían adorarlo.

¿A qué renunciarías para adorar a Jesús?

Will God Bless Your Goals?

“When you eat or drink or do anything else, always do it to honor God.”

1 Corinthians 10:31 (CEV)

It’s important to set goals. But not every goal you set is a goal that God’s going to bless.

So, how do you know the difference? Ask yourself these questions:

Will my goal honor God?
What kind of goal brings glory to God? Any goal that causes you to trust him more, to depend on him more, to love him more, to love other people more, to serve him, or to serve others.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:31, “When you eat or drink or do anything else, always do it to honor God” (CEV). Even everyday tasks can be done to honor God.

You can honor God by taking out the trash. You can honor God by washing the dishes. You can honor God by doing that mundane task at work: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for people” (Colossians 3:23 GNB).

If you want your life to bring honor to God, set goals that help you be the best you can be for God’s glory.

Is my goal motivated by love?
God is not going to bless a goal motivated by greed, envy, guilt, fear, or pride. But he does honor a goal that is motivated by a desire to demonstrate love to him and to others. Life is all about learning how to love.

Why is it important to have goals based on love? If you set loveless goals, you’re going to treat people as projects. You’ll run all over them to reach your goal, whether they’re a family member, friend, or coworker. God says, “No, you’ve got it all wrong. It’s not about accomplishments. It’s about relationships. It’s about learning how to love.”

The Bible says, “Do everything in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14 NIV). Your number one goal in life should be to learn how to really love your family, your neighbors, and even those who are hard to love. That makes you more like God, because God is love.

Aprendamos a ser Buscadores de la Verdad

“¿Dónde está el niño que nació para ser el rey de los judíos?”. Mateo 2:2a (TLA)

Si observas cualquier escena de la Navidad, es muy probable que observes a varios personajes que no parecen encajar en el establo: los Sabios del Oriente. Nos hemos acostumbrado a verlos, pero si observas cuidadosamente, parecen que están fuera de lugar con sus ropas elegantes y regalos especiales.

Pero para mí, son las personas más fascinantes en la historia de la Navidad. No sabemos mucho sobre ellos. No sabemos quiénes son o de dónde vinieron. La Biblia los llama “sabios”. Los sabios eran una combinación de filósofos, científicos y astrónomos. Eran bastante ricos y bien educados. Eso es todo lo que sabemos sobre ellos.

Pero lo que sí sabemos es que eran sabios. De hecho, podemos aprender mucho de la sabiduría que demostraron en la historia de la Navidad.

Entre otras lecciones de los Sabios del Oriente, aprendemos a ser buscadores de la verdad. A las personas sabias no les gusta estar adivinando o especulando. Ellos quieren saber la verdad acerca de Dios, su pasado y su futuro. Los Sabios del Oriente preguntaron, “¿Dónde está el niño que nació para ser el rey de los judíos?” Mateo 2:2a (TLA).

Los Sabios del Oriente estaban buscando a Jesús. Los hombres y mujeres sabios lo siguen buscando hasta el día de hoy.

Hay dos tipos de personas en la vida con respecto a la búsqueda de la verdad: los especuladores y los buscadores. Los especuladores tratan de adivinar la verdad. Los especuladores creen que conocen cómo es Dios.

Los especuladores aman argumentar y discutir sobre Dios, pero solo están adivinando —porque ellos en realidad no quieren conocer la verdad. Lo único que quieren es hablar sobre Él.

Por otro lado, Dios ama a aquellos que se toman el tiempo de encontrar la verdad. Los buscadores hacen cuatro cosas:

Ellos preguntan.Ellos estudian.Ellos observan lo que sucede a su alrededor.Ellos hacen lo necesario para conocer la verdad.

Ellos buscan a Jesús con todo lo que tienen. Dios ama a los buscadores. La Biblia nos dice, “Pero si desde allí buscas al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma, lo encontrarás” Deuteronomio 4:29 (NVI).

Si estás buscando la verdad de manera seria y genuina, no te perderás, la encontrarás.

¿Por qué es sabio buscar a Jesús?Observando tu pasado, ¿has sido más un especulador o un buscador de la verdad? ¿Por qué?Encuentra a un buscador espiritual en tu vida a quien puedas hablarle de Jesús e invitarlo a la Iglesia.
