Por qué ‘Solo un Poco Más’ Nunca te Hará Feliz

“La verdadera sumisión a Dios es una gran riqueza en sí misma cuando uno está contento con lo que tiene. Después de todo, no trajimos nada cuando vinimos a este mundo ni tampoco podremos llevarnos nada cuando lo dejemos” 1 Timoteo 6:6-7 (NTV)

Dios está mucho más interesado en tu carácter que en tu comodidad. Él quiere que crezcas y seas más como Jesús. Su enfoque está en tu actitud, no en facilitarte la vida. Él te está observando para ver si crees que el tener más te hará más feliz, o si has aprendido a estar contento con lo que Él te ha provisto.

La Biblia dice: “la verdadera sumisión a Dios es una gran riqueza en sí misma cuando uno está contento con lo que tiene. Después de todo, no trajimos nada cuando vinimos a este mundo ni tampoco podremos llevarnos nada cuando lo dejemos” 1 Timoteo 6:6-7 (NTV).

Cuando estás contento con lo que tienes, estás creyendo que Dios sabe más que tú lo que necesitas, y estás confiando en que Él te dará la sabiduría necesaria para tomar buenas decisiones financieras.

La mayoría de las personas quedan atrapadas en el pensamiento del “cuando”. “Cuando consiga esto, entonces seré feliz”. Cuando consigas un determinado puesto de trabajo, cuando te retires, cuando termines de pagar la casa, cuando no tengas deudas  —y así sucesivamente.

Pero Dios sabe que si no estás contento, siempre vas a querer algo más cuando llegues allí. Alguien supuestamente le preguntó una vez al multimillonario Howard Hughes sobre qué tanto se necesita para ser feliz, y él le dijo, “sólo un poco más”.

Puedes pasar toda tu vida enfocado en el dinero —tratando de ganarlo, ahorrarlo y gastarlo. Así que Dios usa las finanzas como una prueba de cuánto confías en Él. Cuando tienes una necesidad, Él quiere que pidas y que aprendas a estar contento para que tu felicidad no dependa de lo mucho o poco que has obtenido.

La satisfacción no es algo que nos viene de manera natural.  Es algo que tienes que practicar todos los días. Debes recordarte a ti mismo, que Dios te está cuidando y te proporcionará todo lo que necesitas. Tienes que elegir amar y apreciar lo que ya tienes.

Si no aprendes contentamiento, siempre vas a querer más. Pero una vez que aprendas a estar contento, recibirás un gozo que ninguna cosa en la tierra te puede dar.

Not Everything You Feel Is True

“To be controlled by human nature results in death; to be controlled by the Spirit results in life and peace . . . Those who obey their human nature cannot please God.”

Romans 8:6, 8 (GNT)

Learning to manage your emotions is the key to peace of mind. In other words, you need to learn to deal with what you feel!

Here are four important reasons why you need to manage your emotions:

Emotions are often unreliable. Your gut is often wrong. Your intuition is often flawed. Your emotions often lead you down a blind alley. You can’t depend on everything you feel!

Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death” (NIV). You don’t have to accept everything you feel, because not everything you feel is right or authentic or will lead you in the right direction.

You don’t want to be manipulated. If you don’t control your emotions, they will control you, and you will be manipulated by your moods. And if you’re always guided by your feelings, other people will take advantage of you. Worst of all, negative emotions are Satan’s favorite tool. He will use fear, resentment, and worry to wreak havoc in your life.

The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (NIV).

You want to please God. God cannot rule your life if emotions rule your life. If you make your decisions based on how you feel, then you’ve made your feelings your god, and then God can’t be God in your life.

Romans 8 says, “To be controlled by human nature results in death; to be controlled by the Spirit results in life and peace . . . Those who obey their human nature cannot please God” (Romans 8:6, 8 GNT).

You want to succeed in life. Study after study has shown that your emotional quotient is far more important than your IQ when it comes to success. How many people do you know who ruined their reputation because of something said in anger? Or missed a job opportunity because of their lack of self-control?

The Bible says in Proverbs 5:23, “[People] get lost and die because of their foolishness and lack of self-control” (CEV).

When you choose to follow Jesus, that decision includes your emotions. Jesus wants to be Lord of how you feel, not just what you think and do. He wants to be Lord of your emotions.

The Bible says, “From now on, then, you must live the rest of your earthly lives controlled by God’s will and not by human desires” (1 Peter 4:2 GNT).

¿Necesitas Ayuda? Dios está Esperando que se la Pidas

“Sigue pidiendo y recibirás lo que pides; sigue buscando y encontrarás; sigue llamando, y la puerta se te abrirá”.  Mateo 7:7 (NTV)

Dios nunca cierra Su gran almacén hasta que tú cierres tu boca y dejes de pedir.

Dios quiere ayudarte, pero si nunca le pides, ese es el problema. La última vez que necesitaste un auto, ¿se lo pediste a Dios o solo fuiste a comprarlo? Antes de decidir sobre la mejor manera de hacer algo, ¿le pediste sabiduría a Dios? Cuando necesitaste ayuda en una relación, ¿oraste por eso primero?

Jesús dice, “Sigue pidiendo y recibirás lo que pides; sigue buscando y encontrarás; sigue llamando, y la puerta se te abrirá” Mateo 7:7 (NTV).

Cuando necesites la ayuda de Dios, acuérdate de PEDIR: pedir, buscar y llamar. Dios lo dice en este versículo de tres maneras, para que captes el mensaje. Tal vez nunca ves milagros en tu vida, porque nunca los pides. Si quieres ver a Dios trabajar más en tu vida, ¡comienza a pedir!

Uno de los principios de Dios para tus finanzas es que antes de que lo compres, ores por ello. Detente y pregúntale a Dios. Dale a Dios la oportunidad de dártelo antes de salir y comprarlo. Si dependes más de tu tarjeta de crédito que de Jesucristo, entonces no obtendrás la bendición de Dios sobre tus finanzas. Él quiere que ores por eso antes de que pagues por ello, para que tengas Su sabiduría y tomes una decisión que le agrade.

Dios quiere que le pidas cosas en oración porque Él es un Padre amoroso. Como a cualquier padre, a Él le gusta darle a sus hijos cosas buenas. A Dios le encanta dar regalos a sus hijos. Él sólo está esperando que le pidas.

“Hasta ahora no han pedido nada en mi nombre. Pidan y recibirán, para que su alegría sea completa” Juan 16:24 (NVI).

Dios quiere que le pidas, para que Él te pueda dar. Él quiere darte para que puedas recibir. Él quiere que recibas para que estés lleno de gozo. Él quiere que estés lleno de gozo porque es un gran testimonio de Jesucristo. Los cristianos alegres muestran al mundo que seguir a Jesús y hacer lo que Él nos dice, trae gozo, no temor.

Deja de preocuparte por tus finanzas. ¡Comienza a orar por ellas! Cuando lo hagas, tendrás menos preocupación y más gozo.

Your Emotions Serve a Purpose

“The most important commandment is this . . . ‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.'”

Mark 12:29-30 (NLT)

Jesus says God doesn’t want you to just kind of love him. He wants you to love him passionately—“with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength” (Mark 12:29-30).

Do you hear the emotion in the words of Jesus? He wants more than your head knowledge. He wants an emotional relationship with you.

Here are some things you need to understand about emotions:

God has emotions. Yes, God is emotional. He feels joy, grief, anger, and pain. He even feels hatred toward sin. You have emotions, too, because you’re made in God’s image. If God wasn’t an emotional God, you wouldn’t have any emotions.

Your ability to feel is a gift from God. Emotions make you human. Your emotional ability allows you to love and create. Your emotions help you to be faithful, loyal, kind, and generous. Your emotions help you experience all the feelings that are attached to the good things in life. Your emotions may not always seem like a gift, but even negative emotions have a purpose.

There are two emotional extremes to avoid. One extreme is emotionalism. Emotionalism says the only thing that matters in life is how you feel—not what you think or what’s right or wrong. With emotionalism, everything in life is based on your emotions; emotions control your life.

The other extreme is stoicism. Stoicism says feelings aren’t important at all, and the only things that matter are your intellect and your will. Christians who follow this approach downplay their emotions.

The truth is, God gave you your emotions for a reason. And he wants you to worship him with all your heart as well as your mind, soul, and strength.

Cuando Eres Confiable en lo Poco, Dios te Confiará Mucho Más

“El que es confiable en lo poco, también lo es en lo mucho; y el que no es confiable en lo poco, tampoco lo es en lo mucho”.  Lucas 16:10 (RVC)

¿Estás usando tu dinero de tal manera que Dios dice, “te daré y te confiaré mucho más”? ¿Estás usando bien tu tiempo? ¿Qué hay de tu influencia? Este principio se aplica a cada área de tu vida.

Esto es lo que Jesús nos dice, “El que es confiable en lo poco, también lo es en lo mucho; y el que no es confiable en lo poco, tampoco lo es en lo mucho” Lucas 16:10 (RVC).

Si Dios te ha dado un talento, puedes utilizarlo fielmente para los propósitos de Dios. No digas: “No soy una superestrella, así que no haré nada”. Si usas el poco talento que tienes, entonces Dios aumentará tu talento.

Si solo tienes un poco de influencia, pero utilizas esa influencia para bien y para Dios, entonces Dios va a aumentar tu influencia. Si recibes un poco de dinero, pero lo utilizas sabiamente —en la forma en que Dios quiere que lo utilices— entonces Dios aumentará tus posesiones materiales. También sucede con las oportunidades; es cierto para todo en la vida.

Jesús dijo, “A los que usan bien lo que se les da, se les dará aún más y tendrán en abundancia; pero a los que no hacen nada se les quitará aun lo poco que tienen” Mateo 25:29 (NTV). Yo quiero que tengas abundancia en todas las áreas de tu vida. Pero debes usar lo que se te ha dado, para el bien de los demás y para el Reino de Dios.

La fidelidad en pequeñas formas produce abundancia en grandes formas. Puedes pensar, “Cuando lo haga en grande, entonces voy a ser realmente generoso. Cuando tenga dinero, voy a comenzar a diezmar”.

Pero Dios te ha dado todo lo que necesitas en este momento para que le seas fiel y para Su propósito en tu vida.

Si quieres la bendición de Dios en tu vida, hazlo a la manera de Dios. Comienza a administrar bien lo que Dios te ha dado y luego Dios te confiará con más.

Make Up Your Mind to Manage Your Mind

“I have made up my mind to obey your laws forever, no matter what."

Psalm 119:112 (CEV)

People who learn how to fight the battle in their minds live more effective lives.

If you want to learn to manage your mind, you have to be delivered from destructive thoughts. That isn’t easy because you are in a battle with three enemies trying to control your thoughts.

The first enemy is your old nature. Paul said in Romans 7:23, “There is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me” (NLT).

Do you ever find yourself doing things you don’t really want to do? That’s the battle in your mind between your old, sinful nature and your good intentions.

The second enemy is Satan. Satan cannot force you to do anything, but he can make suggestions. Those suggestions are incredibly powerful. He is constantly planting negative thoughts in your mind. He’ll use other people or what you watch on TV, or he’ll just throw a thought in your mind.

The third enemy is the world’s value system. Modern society rarely encourages self-discipline. Advertisements tell you, “You deserve a break today. Have it your way. We do it all for you.”

The Bible says in 1 John 2:16, “For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world” (NIV).

With enemies like that, no wonder people struggle with discouragement, despair, and failure!

So, how do you fight this battle? Look at what 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 says: “Though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (NIV).

You have a choice. Your mind has to listen to you. God didn’t give you just a mind. He gave you a will too!

The Bible says, “I have made up my mind to obey your laws forever, no matter what” (Psalm 119:112 CEV). The best time to win the battle with temptation is before it begins.

Qué Hacer Si Quieres Escuchar ‘Bien hecho’

“Así que cada uno de nosotros tendrá que dar cuentas de sí a Dios”.  Romanos 14:12 (NVI)

Algún día habrá una auditoría sobre tu vida. En ese día, tendrás que responder por no solamente en cómo gastaste tu dinero, sino también cómo utilizaste todo lo que Dios te dio. ¿Qué hiciste con tu talento, tus relaciones, tus oportunidades, tu mente, tu creatividad, tus contactos, tu tiempo? ¿Qué hiciste con lo que Dios te dio?

La iglesia de Dios está llena de personas de todos los niveles económicos —personas muy pobres, otros que son muy ricos, y todos los demás en el medio. Pero no importa cuánto tengas. Lo que importa es lo que haces con lo que te ha sido dado y si Dios puede confiarte con más.

Tu tiempo como administrador en la tierra terminará algún día, y darás cuenta de lo que se te confió. La Biblia dice: “Así que cada uno de nosotros tendrá que dar cuentas de sí a Dios” Romanos 14:12 (NVI).

No vas a vivir en la tierra para siempre. ¡No fuiste destinado a hacerlo! Pero Dios te ha confiado ciertos activos como administrador mientras estás aquí. Él te está mirando y probando y quiere ver cómo administras lo que te ha sido dado.

¿Qué haces con la mente que te dio? ¿Qué haces con la salud que te dio? ¿Qué haces con la libertad que te dio? ¿Lo gastas todo en ti mismo? ¿Crees que el propósito de la vida es vivir para ti mismo?

Puedes decidir ahora sobre lo que quieres que sea tu vida, y luego empezar a tomar decisiones que muestren a Dios que deseas vivir para lo que realmente importa. Cuando utilices tus recursos para hacer una diferencia eterna,  escucharás a Dios decirte algún día, “Bien hecho”.

Feed Your Mind with God’s Word

“People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God."

Matthew 4:4 (NLT)

If you want a healthy mind, you must feed your mind with truth.

You know the importance of nutrition. Good food and good calories make you stronger and healthier and give you more energy. Bad calories and junk food harm your body. The same is true in your thought life. You must feed your mind not with junk or poison but with truth.

One time I had the privilege of lecturing at the University of Oxford. While there, I was invited to go to a meeting of Oxford Analytica—a group that has enormous influence in the world. Every day around 6 a.m., leading scholars would gather to get reports from all around the world about what’s happened in the last 24 hours, from crop prices rising in China to unrest in the Middle East. Then they would decide what needs to be said about it. By 11 a.m., a report would be given to groups that pay a lot of money for this information—such as governments and major corporations.

Oxford Analytica was founded on the idea that the best leaders make the best decisions when they have the best information. Even good leaders are more likely to make a bad decisions if they don’t have good information.

To live the best life—the life God wants you to live—you need the best information too. And you’ll find that information in the Word of God.

The Bible says in Matthew 4:4, “People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (NLT).

God wants you to make the best decisions and receive his best for your life. You do that by feeding on the Word of God throughout your day, every day.

“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I receive you into my life as my Lord and Savior. Today, I’m turning every part of my life over to you. I want to follow you and do what you tell me to do.

“Jesus, I am grateful for your love and for your sacrifice that makes it possible for me to join you in heaven. I know I don’t deserve it. And I thank you that I don’t have to earn or work for my salvation, because I know that is impossible. I want to use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I humbly commit my life to you, and I ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

¿Cuál es la Mejor Manera de Usar tu Dinero?

“Por eso les digo que se valgan de las riquezas mundanas para ganar amigos, a fin de que cuando estas se acaben haya quienes los reciban a ustedes en las viviendas eternas”.  Lucas 16:9 (NVI)

El mejor uso de tu dinero es ayudar a las personas a llegar al Cielo. Jesús dice, “Por eso les digo que se valgan de las riquezas mundanas para ganar amigos, a fin de que cuando estas se acaben haya quienes los reciban a ustedes en las viviendas eternas” Lucas 16:9 (NVI).

¿Qué es lo que Jesús no está diciendo aquí? No está diciendo que puedes comprar tu camino al Cielo, porque no puedes. Jesús ya pagó ese precio en la cruz. Él no dice que puedes comprar tu salvación, porque no puedes. Es gratis. Es un regalo. Es por gracia.

Lo que está diciendo es que utilices tu dinero para construir relaciones —relaciones espirituales— eso continuará por la eternidad. Usa tu riqueza para tener buena influencia.

Cuando usas tu dinero para ayudar a que otras personas conozcan a Jesús, haces amigos para la eternidad, y ganas recompensas para la eternidad.

Imagina: Un día vas a morir. Cuando vayas al Cielo, puedes encontrarte con un centenar de personas allí, de pie en la entrada del Cielo, aplaudiendo y aclamando y diciendo: “Te hemos estado esperando. Estamos muy contentos de que hayas llegado. Nosotros estamos aquí porque gastaste algo de dinero para hablarnos de las Buenas Noticias. Somos tus amigos por toda la eternidad. Si no fuera por la forma en que usaste tu dinero, no habríamos escuchado cómo llegar al Cielo”.

¿Estás usando algo de tu dinero para hacer eso? ¿Alguien va a estar en el Cielo por la manera en que elegiste gastar tu dinero?

Cuando compras una Biblia y se la das a alguien que no tiene una, almacenas tesoros en el Cielo. Cuando apoyas a un ministerio que comparte las Buenas Noticias con la gente de todo el mundo, has invertido en la eternidad. Cuando ayudas a construir una iglesia que guía a las personas hacia el conocimiento de Dios de una manera personal, has almacenado tesoros en el Cielo.

Ese es el mayor y mejor uso de tu dinero, porque lo estás enviando con anticipación.

No lo puedes llevar contigo, pero puedes enviarlo por adelantado al Cielo. ¿Como? Invirtiendo en personas que algún día estarán allí contigo.
