No Necesitas un Plan. Necesitas al ‘Yo Soy’

“Pero cuando ellos vieron que él caminaba sobre el mar, pensaron que era un fantasma y clamaron a gritos; porque todos lo vieron y se turbaron. Pero en seguida habló con ellos y les dijo: “¡Tengan ánimo! ¡Yo soy! ¡No teman!”. Marcos 6:49-50 (RVA-2015)

Sólo se aprende cómo es realmente Jesús en las tormentas de la vida. Te das cuenta de que no es un simple hombre. Él no es sólo un buen maestro. Él no es simplemente un líder ético. Él es Dios, el Creador del universo.

En Marcos 6, Jesús advirtió que los discípulos estaban en peligro en el medio de un lago mientras el viento y las olas golpeaban su barca y les impedía hacer algún progreso. Así que Jesús se acercó a ellos caminando sobre el agua. Los versículos 49 y 50 dicen: “Pero cuando ellos vieron que él caminaba sobre el mar, pensaron que era un fantasma y clamaron a gritos; porque todos lo vieron y se turbaron. Pero en seguida habló con ellos y les dijo: “¡Tengan ánimo! ¡Yo soy! ¡No teman!”. Marcos 6:49-50 (RVA-2015).

Los discípulos pensaron que Jesús era tal vez sólo un buen profeta que podría hacer algunos milagros. Al caminar sobre el agua, Jesús reveló que Él es mucho más que un hombre. Él estaba mostrando que Él es Dios.

También les dio un desafío “No teman”, y una seguridad, Él dijo: “Yo soy”.

En el griego esta frase es en realidad dos palabras: Ego ima. Y ego ima simplemente quiere decir “Yo Soy”. ¿Por qué es tan importante?

“YO SOY” es el nombre de Dios —no “fui” o “seré” o “espero ser”. Cuando Jesús dice: “Yo Soy”, está diciendo que no necesitas tener miedo. Él es Dios. Y eso es suficiente.

Si en este momento estás pasando por una tormenta, no necesitas un trabajo — necesitas a Jesús. No necesitas un plan; necesitas una persona. No necesitas un sistema; necesitas un Salvador. No necesitas un nuevo objetivo;  necesitas a Dios.

Cuando estás pasando por una tormenta, recuerda que Dios no está lejos, apático o desinteresado. Él es el “Yo soy”. Y Él te llevará a través de la tormenta.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Qué o a quién sueles mirar para que te salve en medio de una tormenta? ¿Qué te impide mirar a Dios?¿Qué es lo que necesitas de Dios para atravesar una tormenta? Four Secrets to Answered Prayer

“Then [Nehemiah] said, ‘O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps his covenant of unfailing love with those who love him and obey his commands, listen to my prayer! . . . I confess that we have sinned against you . . . Please remember what you told your servant Moses: “If you are unfaithful to me, I will scatter you among the nations. But if you return to me and obey my commands and live by them, then even if you are exiled to the ends of the earth, I will bring you back to the place I have chosen for my name to be honored” . . . Please grant me success today by making the king favorable to me. Put it into his heart to be kind to me.'"

Nehemiah 1:5-11 (NLT)

God wants you to pray bold prayers.

For example, Nehemiah, cupbearer to King Artaxerxes, prayed a bold prayer when he heard about the desolation of Jerusalem. He prayed that God would move upon the king’s heart to allow him to return to Jerusalem to help the city rebuild its protective wall.

In his prayer, Nehemiah revealed four secrets to answered prayer:

Base your request on God’s character. Nehemiah started his prayer by listing God’s character traits and deeds. He prayed with confidence because he knew who God was. You too can pray like you know God will answer you. Pray something like: “You are a faithful God. You are a great God. You are a loving God. You are a wonderful God. I’m expecting you to answer this prayer because of who you are. You can handle this problem, God!”

Confess the sins you’re aware of. Nehemiah confessed his sins. It wasn’t Nehemiah’s fault that Israel had gone into captivity. He wasn’t even born when it happened. Yet, he included himself in the national sins. He basically said, “I’ve been part of the problem.”

Claim the promises of God. Nehemiah prayed to the Lord, saying, “Please remember what you told your servant Moses” (Nehemiah 1:8 NLT). Can you imagine saying “remember” to God? Nehemiah reminded God of a promise he made to the nation of Israel. In effect, he prayed, “God, you warned through Moses that if we were unfaithful, we would lose the land of Israel. But you also promised that if we repent, you’d give it back to us.”

Does God have to be reminded? No. Does he forget what he’s promised? No. Then why should you remind God? Because it helps you remember what God has promised.

Be very specific about what you ask for. If you want specific answers, then make specific requests. If your prayers consist of general requests, how will you know if God answered them?

After Nehemiah spoke to the king, he wrote, “It pleased the king to send me” (Nehemiah 2:6 NIV). God answered Nehemiah’s prayer.

Nehemiah boldly prayed for success. Have you ever prayed, “Lord, make me successful”? If you haven’t, why not? Is it okay to ask God to make you successful? It all depends on your definition of success. I believe a good definition of success is this: “Fulfilling God’s purpose for my life in faith, love, and the power of the Holy Spirit.” That is a worthy life objective that you can pray for with confidence.

Next time you come to God needing answers to your prayers, follow Nehemiah’s example. Proclaim God’s character, confess your sins, claim God’s promises, and make specific requests. Then wait expectantly for God to answer!

Talk It Over

What have you been asking God for? How does that request align with (or not align with) his character?
Have you been praying generally for something? How can you turn that general request into a specific request?
What promises of God do you need to claim today?

No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, you’ve got a place in God’s forever family ready and waiting for you. The invitation is wide open. Just believe and receive.

Trust in God’s character and the grace he extends. Confess your sins and ask God to forgive you. Claim the promise of Jesus, that salvation is free and open to anyone who turns from their sins and agrees to follow him as their Lord and Savior. Humbly ask God to accept you into his forever family.

Are you ready? Here’s a prayer you can start with: “Dear God, I know when I die, I’m going to give an account of my life to you. I know I have sinned against you, and I have lived by my plan, not yours. I want that to change, starting right now. I want to turn away from my sins and toward you.

“Thank you for sending Jesus to die for all that I’ve done wrong so that I don’t have to pay the penalty. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I know only your grace can save me, Lord. I could never be good enough to get into a perfect place.

“Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I humbly ask you to save me. I believe in you, Jesus. And I believe you will keep your promise to save me instantly, certainly, completely, and eternally. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Cinco Cosas que Debes Hacer en Medio de la Tormenta

“Pero al sentir [Pedro] el viento fuerte, tuvo miedo y comenzó a hundirse. Entonces gritó: ¡Señor, sálvame!”. Mateo 14:30 (NVI)

Cuando pasas por una tormenta, Dios no está distante o indiferente. Él es el “Yo soy” y está trabajando en tu vida para tu beneficio. Aquí hay cinco cosas que Dios quiere que hagas, si sientes como si te estuvieras hundiendo en una tormenta.

Ten valor, porque Jesús está contigo.

Ni siquiera consideres el temor. ¡Cuando el temor quiera venir, dile a donde debe ir! ¡Que vaya a discutir con Jesús!

Arriésgate en fe.

No le pidas a Dios que bendiga lo que estás haciendo. Haz lo que Dios está bendiciendo. Pregúntale que quiere que hagas, y prepárate para salir de la barca.

Permanece enfocado en Jesús.

El momento en el que quitas los ojos del Señor, te hundirás. Mateo 14:30 dice: “Pero al sentir [Pedro] el viento fuerte, tuvo miedo y comenzó a hundirse. Entonces gritó: ¡Señor, sálvame!” (NVI). Cuando te enfocas en el viento y en las olas —tus circunstancias— te vas a hundir, igual que Pedro. Si miras al mundo, te vas a angustiar; si miras dentro de ti, te vas a sentir deprimido; si miras a Cristo, encontrarás descanso.

No dudes.

No necesitas una gran fe para cruzar las tormentas en tu vida. Solo necesitas tener fe en la persona correcta.

Adora a Dios.

Aun en la tormenta, aun cuando sientas que te estás hundiendo, aun cuando estás asustado hasta la muerte —adora a Dios todo el tiempo. Agradécele en  medio de la tormenta.

¿Qué tormenta te está asustando ahora? ¿Qué tormenta te está hundiendo justo ahora? ¿Por qué crees que Dios está permitiendo que pases por esta tormenta?

Él está permitiendo que pases por esta tormenta por la misma razón por la que envió a los discípulos a la tormenta —para decir, “Yo soy todo lo que necesitas. Puedo manejar cualquier cosa. Y vendré caminando sobre aquello que más temes. No te estoy pidiendo que vengas a mi. Yo voy a ti”.

How to Hear God Speak

“O Lord, now I have heard your report, and I worship you in awe."

Habakkuk 3:2 (TLB)

Do you ever wonder how to hear God speak when you pray? One of the best ways is by worshiping him as you pray. Another is by developing a friendship with him.

First, let’s look at worshiping God through prayer. Start by thanking him for being part of your life and for being interested in the details of your life.

Pray like Habakkuk: “O Lord, now I have heard your report, and I worship you in awe” (Habakkuk 3:2 TLB). When God gives you a vision or a dream, or shows you what he wants you to do, thank him for answering your prayer. That’s part of worshiping God.

Second, develop a friendship with him and get to know him. Prayer isn’t a monologue; it’s a dialogue. It’s a conversation with God. God hears you when you pray; he answers you when you ask questions. He wants to talk with you every day. And when you faithfully talk with God throughout the day, it will revolutionize your life.

There are three levels of knowing God: recognition, acquaintance, and friendship.

At the recognition level, you know God is there, but you don’t really know him personally. At the acquaintance level, you know God a little, but you don’t know him very well.

God wants you to live at the friendship level, where you are familiar with each other and talk regularly. God wants to have a continuous conversation with you.

You can start developing a friendship with God by praying something like this: “Dear God, I’m amazed that you would want me for a friend. I really want to learn how to have conversations with you. Help me spend time with you every day. Thank you for caring about every detail of my life. Jesus, I want to know you more and more every day, and I want to depend on you for guidance in my job, my family, my future, and in every other area of my life. In your name I pray. Amen.”

As you spend time in prayer, worshiping God and developing a friendship with him, you’ll learn how to hear and recognize his voice.

Jesús Viene a Ti en Medio de la Tormenta

“A eso de las tres de la madrugada, Jesús se acercó a ellos caminando sobre el agua”. Marcos 6:48b (NTV)

En Marcos 6, Jesús envió a los discípulos a Betsaida, mientras Él se fue a solas para orar. No fue un largo viaje en barco, pero perdieron el rumbo por una tormenta, y cuando Jesús los vio luchando contra el viento en el medio del mar, vino a ayudarlos.

¿Has estado en una tormenta fuera de curso? No tenías ninguna intención de estar donde estás hoy en tu trabajo, tu matrimonio, tus finanzas. Has sido desviado de tu trayectoria por situaciones que no podías controlar, en este punto, has perdido la esperanza de llegar a tu destino original. Lo que deseas es volver a la seguridad.

Tal vez había grandes sueños para tu vida hace mucho tiempo. Ni siquiera estás preocupado por el progreso en este momento. Sólo estás preguntándote, “¿Podré sobrevivir?”

¿Qué hace Jesús cuando estás en un momento de desesperación? Marcos 6:48 dice, “A eso de las tres de la madrugada, Jesús se acercó a ellos caminando sobre el agua” Marcos 6:48b (NTV). Nota que Él no les dijo a los discípulos que se dirigieran hacia Él. Él sabía que no podían llegar a Él. Jesús se dirigió a ellos. Cuando estás en ese punto de desesperación, Jesús viene a tu encuentro.

Me encanta el hecho de que Jesús no dio ninguna de las instrucciones desde la orilla. Cuando estás en una tormenta, no necesitas consejos. ¡Es necesario un milagro! Necesitas que alguien aparezca, y esto es lo que hizo Jesús. Intervino en la tormenta de los discípulos.

Este es el Evangelio —Dios no está en la costa diciéndonos qué hacer. Él sale y se encuentra con nosotros en nuestro dolor, nuestro miedo, nuestra depresión, nuestra tormenta y nuestro desaliento. Él viene a nosotros. ¡Qué gran Dios!

Puede que te sientas abandonado en este momento, pero no lo estás. La Biblia dice en Juan 14:18 “No los abandonaré como a huérfanos; vendré a ustedes” (NTV). ¡Puedes contar con Él!

Four Steps to Defeat Your Giants

“You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty . . . This day the LORD will deliver you into my hands . . . and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel."

1 Samuel 17:45-46 (NIV)

God wants you to be a person of great faith with a great dream and a great life work. But first, you need to defeat the giants in life that hold you back.

How do you begin? You start by doing the four things David did to defeat the giants of delay, discouragement, disapproval, and doubt in his life. If you want to be a person of great faith—with a great dream and a great life work—do those four things too.

Remember how God helped you in the past. David said in 1 Samuel 17:37, “The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!” (NLT).

When you remember the ways that God has helped you in the past, you have confidence for the future.

Use the tools God has given you in the present. God provided David with tools that tapped into his strengths: “Then Saul gave David his own armor . . . ‘I can’t go in these,’ he protested to Saul. ‘I’m not used to them.’ So David took them off again. He picked up five smooth stones from a stream and put them into his shepherd’s bag” (1 Samuel 17:38-40 NLT).

Don’t wait for something you don’t have—money, education, or connections. Use the tools God has already given you to face your giants with confidence.

Ignore the dreambusters. Later in life, when others were speaking against him, David had to encourage himself in the Lord: “David was seriously worried, for in their bitter grief for their children, his men began talking of killing him. But David took strength from the Lord” (1 Samuel 30:6 TLB).

Encouraging yourself in the Lord does not mean just having a positive mental attitude. It means cultivating a bedrock trust in God’s grace, provision, security, and power.

Expect God to help you for his glory. David stormed the battlefield, shouting, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty . . . This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands . . . and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel” (1 Samuel 17:45-46 NIV).

When I was a young man, I made the decision to rely on God as I pursued the dream he’d given me. In the mountains of Northern California one night, I got down on my knees and prayed, “God, I’m not the smartest guy, the best educated, or the most talented. But I’m going to trust you. And I will do anything—anytime and anywhere—in faith, even when it doesn’t make sense to me.”

And what an adventure my life has been! I now stand up and speak to a crowd every week that is about five times bigger than the town I grew up in—all because I expected God to use me for his glory.

God will use anyone who trusts in him and expects to be used by him—not because of who you are but because of who he is.

Talk It Over

What “giants” are standing between you and your dream?
Think of the tools that God has given you to accomplish your task. How well are you using them?
How do you want to be used by God? Do you expect him to do it?

Have you trusted God’s promise of salvation through Jesus Christ?

If you’re ready to commit your life to Jesus, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I receive you into my life as my Lord and Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. Today I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.

“I’m grateful for your unconditional love. I want to use the rest of my life to love and serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Porque Dios lo Dice

“Cuando [Jesús] terminó de hablar, le dijo a Simón: —Ahora ve a las aguas más profundas y echa tus redes para pescar. —Maestro—respondió Simón—, hemos trabajado mucho durante toda la noche y no hemos pescado nada; pero si tú lo dices, echaré las redes nuevamente”.  Lucas 5:4-5 (NTV)

Como seguidor de Jesucristo, Él espera que obedezcas todo lo que te diga, —aunque no tenga sentido, aunque pueda parecer tonto a ojos de otras personas, aunque no parezca lógico financieramente hablando, aunque no lo entendamos y estemos tremendamente asustados.

Lucas 5:4-5 dice: “Cuando [Jesús] terminó de hablar, le dijo a Simón: —Ahora ve a las aguas más profundas y echa tus redes para pescar. —Maestro—respondió Simón—, hemos trabajado mucho durante toda la noche y no hemos pescado nada; pero si tú lo dices, echaré las redes nuevamente” (NTV).

Jesús no sólo subió a la barca, sino que comenzó a dar instrucciones sobre la pesca.

Mira bien la reacción de Pedro. Primero, él no discutió con Jesús. No dijo: “Perdón, Señor. Tú eres carpintero. Yo soy pescador. ¡Y los peces no están picando! ¿Quién te crees para decirme cómo tengo que hacer mi trabajo?”

Él tampoco vaciló. Cuando Jesús le dijo que zarpara la barca, no respondió: “¿Por qué no pensamos esto un minuto? Formemos un comité y votemos”, o “Estamos demasiado cansados y hambrientos. ¿Por qué mejor no probamos más tarde?”

¿Qué hizo Pedro? Respondió a Jesús con una obediencia sin cuestionamientos.

Si te transformas en un hombre o mujer que siempre responde “si tú lo dices”, Dios bendecirá tu vida. Sus instrucciones no tienen que tener sentido para ti. Cuando Dios te dice algo, hazlo, confiando en Él por la fe.

No sé qué te ha dicho Dios que hagas, pero puedo afirmar esto: la desobediencia siempre termina lastimándote, porque pierdes la bendición. Puedes confiar en Dios porque siempre Él tiene el mejor interés para ti en mente, aunque no lo puedas ver en el momento.

Conquering Giants to Fulfill Your Dream

“Everyone assembled here will know that the LORD rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the LORD’s battle, and he will give you to us!"

1 Samuel 17:47 (NLT)

Before King David faced Goliath in 1 Samuel, he had to fight four other giants. They weren’t physical giants, but they were giants in his mind.

You are far more likely to face mental giants than a physical Goliath. But mental giants can be just as big and intimidating. And they can keep you from becoming who God wants you to be and fulfilling the dream that God has put in your heart.

The first giant in facing your dream is delay. No dream is fulfilled instantly. God gives you the dream one day, but he doesn’t fulfill it the next day. It may be years before you see the fulfillment of your life dream. There is always a waiting period.

After the prophet Samuel anointed David as king, David’s father, Jesse, told David to get back to tending the sheep. Talk about a delayed dream! It was about 15 years before David actually became king.

But God used that time to build David’s character, teaching him to be obedient even when things didn’t seem to make sense. As David waited for God to fulfill his promise, he learned to trust in God’s sovereignty. The lesson is that God is faithful, and he will complete his work in you in his time.

The second giant you may face is discouragement. Goliath created a climate of fear in Israel. Everyone was convinced they were going to lose the battle against him.

What people are you listening to that say it can’t be done? Who is putting down your dream, saying it won’t ever happen?

Sometimes you just need a fresh voice, like a shepherd boy with fresh eyes who says, “This guy’s nothing. We can take him down.”

The third giant standing in your way is disapproval. In David’s case, his own brother questioned his motives and disapproved of him going after Goliath.

When God gives you a dream that other people are afraid of and you go for it anyway, you will be misjudged, maligned, and misunderstood. You have to decide what matters more to you: the approval of other people or the approval of God.

The fourth giant you may have to face is doubt.

Nobody was a greater expert on war than King Saul. He told David he was crazy for thinking a boy could fight a warrior like Goliath.

Maybe an expert is saying you can’t do it either. And that’s enough to make you start doubting yourself.

Remember, experts are often wrong! You won’t be deterred by the naysayers when you focus on God’s promises and trust the Lord is faithful to fulfill your dream.

When you’ve had a dream delayed, what have you learned about yourself and God?
Whose discouraging voices have kept you down? Whose voices do you need to listen to instead?

¿Por qué no está Funcionando a tu Manera?

“Cuando [Jesús] acabó de hablar, le dijo a Simón: Lleva la barca hacia aguas más profundas, y echen allí las redes para pescar. Maestro, hemos estado trabajando duro toda la noche y no hemos pescado nada —le contestó Simón— Pero como tú me lo mandas, echaré las redes”. Lucas 5:4-5 (NVI)

Piensa acerca de lo difícil que debió ser para Simón Pedro admitir su fracaso ante Jesús. Él era bueno en eso. La pesca era el medio del cual dependía para  vivir. Pero algunas veces hasta el más profesional sale toda la noche a pescar  y no pesca nada.

Ellos eran buenos, y estaban haciendo lo mejor. Pero algunas veces lo que es lo mejor para nosotros no es suficiente, y algunas veces hay situaciones que están fuera de nuestro control. No puedes controlar la economía, no puedes controlar el clima. No puedes controlar muchas cosas en la vida que luego te afectarán. Tal vez estás tratando intensamente, pero no ves ninguna diferencia y no tienes mucho que mostrar.

¿Qué es lo que necesitas hacer? Lo primero que necesitas hacer es poner a Jesús en tu barca. En otras palabras, deja que Él sea el centro de tu trabajo. Segundo, admitir que lo que estás haciendo no funciona. La Biblia llama a esto confesión y esto puede ser difícil.

¿Por qué  es tan difícil admitir que lo que hacemos no está funcionando?

Orgullo. No quieres que nadie piense que no puedes manejar la situación. Estás a cargo. Tienes que conseguirlo todo. Piensas que puedes manejar todo por ti mismo incluso si esto significa trabajar 12 horas diarias.

Terquedad. No estás dispuesto a cambiar las cosas que haces. ¿Sabes que el mayor enemigo del éxito del mañana, es el éxito del ayer?

Temor.  No puedes admitir que has intentado pescar toda la noche y que no has pescado nada. Tienes temor que la gente te tenga en poca estima. Tienes temor de poner a Jesús en tu barca porque Él te va a dirigir hacia donde tú no quieres ir.

Tal vez  estás haciendo lo mejor en tu trabajo, pero no se nota lo que haces. Deja a un lado el orgullo, la terquedad y el temor, y mira como Jesús puede tomar tu barca y llenarla hasta que rebose.

¿Por qué a tu Manera no está Funcionando?

Orgullo. No quieres que nadie piense que no puedes manejar la situación. Estás a cargo. Tienes que conseguirlo todo. Piensas que puedes manejar todo por ti mismo incluso si esto significa trabajar 12 horas diarias.

Terquedad. No estás dispuesto a cambiar las cosas que haces. ¿Sabes que el mayor enemigo del éxito del mañana, es el éxito del ayer?

Temor.  No puedes admitir que has intentado pescar toda la noche y que no has pescado nada. Tienes temor que la gente te tenga en poca estima. Tienes temor de poner a Jesús en tu barca porque Él te va a dirigir hacia donde tú no quieres ir.

Tal vez  estás haciendo lo mejor en tu trabajo, pero no se nota lo que haces. Deja a un lado el orgullo, la terquedad y el temor, y mira como Jesús puede tomar tu barca y llenarla hasta que rebose.
