No le des Lugar al Diablo

“No permitan que el sol se ponga mientras siguen enojados, porque el enojo da lugar al diablo”.  Efesios 4:26b-27 (NTV)

Cuando le das lugar al diablo en tu vida, él toma una fortaleza. ¿Qué significa eso? Si le das a Satanás el control de una pequeña parte de tu vida, pronto se hará cargo de todo. Le das lugar en tu vida, y él lo convierte en una fortaleza.

Permítanme explicarlo de esta forma: Un día, las fuerzas aliadas aterrizaron en las playas de Normandía. Era fundamental que establecieran un campamento en la playa, — es decir, un lugar en la playa que les permita establecer un área de preparación para traer más hombres y equipo para la batalla. Desde ese pequeño lugar, las fuerzas aliadas en un esfuerzo por liberar a Francia pudieron hacer presión.

Pero Satanás no está tratando de liberarte. Él quiere establecer un lugar en tu vida con el fin de tomar más y más de ella. Una vez que se profundiza lo suficiente en un área de pecado, convierte el lugar en una fortaleza, y hace que sea más difícil para ti tomar de nuevo el control de tu vida.

¿Cómo Satanás consigue un lugar en tu vida? En Efesios 4:27, el ejemplo es el enojo, pero podría ser cualquier emoción negativa. Si llenas tu vida de preocupaciones, él ha ganado un lugar en tu vida. Si llenas tu vida de resentimiento, él ha ganado lugar en tu vida. Si permites que la culpa se convierta en vergüenza, Satanás tiene lugar en tu vida.

El Apóstol Pablo dice que la mejor manera de lidiar con estas emociones negativas es inmediatamente. Él dice: “No permitan que el sol se ponga mientras siguen enojados, porque el enojo da lugar al diablo” Efesios 4:26b-27 (NTV). Toma la decisión de hacerle frente de inmediato.

De lo contrario, la emoción negativa afectará tu corazón y le darás a Satanás la oportunidad de establecer un lugar en tu vida.

God’s Will Is in God’s Word

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

Joshua 1:8 (NLT)

God wants you to be successful in the destiny he’s planned for you.

So how do you do that? You must build your life completely on God’s Word—completely in, around, through, and with the Word of God. You’ve got to get into the Word and not just study it. You must become a man or woman of the Word.

That’s what God told Joshua as he prepared to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. Notice what God says in Joshua 1:7-8: “Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do” (NLT). 

Scripture is the key to success. God’s will is in God’s Word. Joshua devoted himself to the Scriptures and all that Moses had taught him. It was then that God allowed him to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land after 40 years of wandering in the desert.

The same is true for you. The more your life is filled with and focused on Scripture—as you hear, read, study, and memorize it—the more your life will be successful the way God intends it to be. 

Can you say your life is built completely on God’s Word? I’ve discovered that a person who has a Bible that’s falling apart usually isn’t falling apart themselves. 

Psalm 14:2 says, “The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God” (ESV).

I don’t know about you, but I intend to be one of those people. I intend to be a person that God looks at and says, “Look at that Warren guy. He is really seeking me.”

And I want you to be that kind of person. I want you to be the person who wakes up in the morning and makes Satan say, “Oh no! That person’s awake. I hate it when they’re up because they mess up my plans.”

God’s looking for people who really seek him—those who understand he has a destiny for their lives. He’s looking for people who are willing to invest their lives pursuing him.

No Puedes Cambiar Todo por Tu Cuenta

“Dejen de decir mentiras. Digamos siempre la verdad a todos porque nosotros somos miembros de un mismo cuerpo”.  Efesios 4:25 (NTV)

Los cambios perdurables requieren de una comunidad honesta y auténtica. En tu vida necesitas personas que te digan la verdad en amor. Hay ciertas cosas en ti que jamás cambiarán sin la ayuda de otros.

Puede que haya ciertas cosas en tu vida que te avergüencen mucho, sobre las que no quieres hablar con nadie. Pero ¿te ha servido de algo esta estrategia? Si pudieras cambiar tu vida por tu propia cuenta, ya lo hubieras hecho. ¡Sencillamente, no puedes!

Debes dejar de mentirte a ti mismo. Si quieres cambiar, vas a necesitar la ayuda de otras personas. Necesitarás ser parte de una comunidad auténtica, de absoluta confianza. Por esto es que los grupos pequeños son tan importantes. Pero necesitas más que un grupo pequeño. Necesitas de una persona dentro de ese grupo con la que puedas ser completamente abierto y honesto. No estás obligado a abrirte con todas las personas, pero sí con alguien.

Dios nos diseñó de tal forma que nos necesitemos unos a otros, pero esto significa que no podemos deshacernos de nuestros malos hábitos y complejos personales por nosotros mismos. No puedes hacerlo solo, porque Dios te hizo para que necesites a otras personas.

La Biblia dice: “Dejen de decir mentiras. Digamos siempre la verdad a todos porque nosotros somos miembros de un mismo cuerpo” Efesios 4:25 (NTV). Si eres un creyente, perteneces al cuerpo de Cristo; perteneces a otros creyentes. No fuiste hecho para vivir la vida cristiana a solas: no puedes hacerlo.

Si en serio quieres cambiar tus defectos más profundos y sombríos, debes vencer el temor siendo honesto. Desperdiciamos una enorme cantidad de energía tratando de encubrir nuestros pecados, nuestras heridas, nuestros complejos y nuestros defectos. Si gastas el mismo tiempo siendo honesto con lo que no está bien en tu vida, en vez de desperdiciar el tiempo encubriéndolo, vas a disponer de mucha más energía para lo que está bien en tu vida.

El mayor estorbo para la santidad es nuestro deseo de quedar bien. Una vez que lo superamos, estamos libres de un enorme obstáculo que se interpone entre nosotros y el punto en donde Dios quiere que estemos.

¿Quieres un cambio en tu vida? Ábrete con alguien y sé honesto respecto a tus fracasos y fallas.

Making Plans Is Part of God’s Plan

“Don’t go charging into battle without a plan.”

Proverbs 20:18 (GNT)

The old cliché is true: If you fail to plan, you’re planning to fail. The future belongs to the person who plans and prepares for it.

In order to step into God’s destiny for your life, the Bible says you must make a plan. Joshua 1:1-3 says, “After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: ‘Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses’” (NIV).

The first thing God said to Joshua as they prepared to enter the Promised Land was this: “Moses . . . is dead” (Joshua 1:1 NIV). Why? Because Joshua was never going to possess his destiny if he looked backward and got stuck in the past. 

The same is true for you. What do you need to bury from your past that’s dead? You cannot get on with your destiny if you’re always looking backward.

The second thing God told Joshua was this: “Get ready to cross the Jordan River” (Joshua 1:2 NIV). In other words, you’ve got to prepare and plan it out. Be specific.

Let me ask you. Where do you want to be in 10, 20, or 50 years?  You’re either moving towards your destiny or you’re drifting.

Proverbs 20:18 says it like this: “Don’t go charging into battle without a plan” (GNT). 

God says it’s wise to plan, but since you don’t know the future, he also wants you to give him the right to change those plans, and then trust that he knows what’s best for you.

So how do you do that? Commit whatever you do to the Lord and trust him to make it succeed. Make your plans and then say, “Lord, this is the best I can do. I’m surrendering these plans to you, and I give you the right to change them. I’m giving it all to you.”

Do you have a life plan? Most people have spent more time planning their vacation than they have planning their lives. If the following prayer expresses your heart, you might say:

Dear God, I want to prepare a plan for my life. I’ve planned so many other things, but I’ve never really even planned my life. I don’t want to waste the rest of my life. Help me to be smart and wise and start planning today. In Jesus’ name, amen.

El Cambio Toma Tiempo

“Pónganse la nueva naturaleza, creada para ser a la semejanza de Dios, quien es verdaderamente justo y santo”.  Efesios 4:24 (NTV)

Cuando Dios quiere remover defectos de tu vida, no hace un chasquido con sus dedos para que eso acontezca en forma instantánea. Lo hace gradualmente. Cuando Dios quiere hacer un champiñón, le toma seis horas. Pero cuando quiere hacer un roble, le toma sesenta años.

¿Quieres ser un champiñón o un roble?

El Espíritu Santo hará cambios en tu vida mucho más allá de lo que pensaste que era posible, pero no van a pasar de la noche a la mañana. Mi oración por ti es que, por medio de la obra del Espíritu Santo y la Palabra de Dios, más el apoyo de tu grupo pequeño, tú seas más maduro, más semejante a Cristo, y sigas avanzando en tu propósito un año, cinco años, diez años más.

Mi oración es que seas más fuerte emocional, físico, espiritual, psicológico y financieramente, pero tú debes ser intencional respecto a todo esto. La Biblia dice: “Pónganse la nueva naturaleza, creada para ser a la semejanza de Dios, quien es verdaderamente justo y santo” Efesios 4:24 (NTV).

De esta manera es que llegamos a ser más como Jesús. El apóstol Pablo dice: “El Señor, quien es el Espíritu, nos hace más y más parecidos a él a medida que somos transformados a su gloriosa imagen” 2 Corintios 3:18b (NTV).

Your Destiny is Your Choice

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

Many people misunderstand the term “destiny.” They think it means unalterable conclusion—that it is fate or karma or that you can’t change it. Some people think that God determines your destiny, and it’s going to happen no matter what you do.

In fact, that’s not what God says. The Bible teaches two very important truths about your destiny.

One is that God’s destiny for your life is good. A lot of people think their destiny is bad or negative. But the Bible says in Jeremiah 29:11, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (NIV). God says his plan—his destiny—for your life is a good plan. 

You may have had a terrible or painful past. But the truth is, the story isn’t over. 

The second truth about your destiny is this: You get to choose it. Did you know that? The Bible says that God gives you a choice. You can reject the good destiny God has planned for you. It’s not automatic.

Joshua learned this lesson as he was about to lead the children of Israel into the Promised Land after 40 years of wandering in the desert. In Deuteronomy 30:15-16 God says, “Today I offer you life and prosperity or death and destruction. This is what I’m commanding you today: Love the LORD your God, follow his directions, and obey his commands, laws, and rules. Then you will live, your population will increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land that you’re about to enter and take possession of” (GW).

Notice two things about Joshua’s experience. First, God had prepared a destiny for the children of Israel. He told them he’d already chosen that land for them and was going to give it to them. It was the Promised Land after all!  But second, he said, you’re going to have to possess it. I’m not just going to hand it to you on a platter. You have to make the choice. 

God wants you to succeed in life with the good destiny he’s planned for you. Here’s my question: Would you like to live life being who God made you to be, doing what he made you to do, and having what he made you to have? It’s not automatic. God says it’s your choice.

Para Cambiar la forma de Actuar, cambia la forma de Pensar

“Dejen que el Espíritu les renueve los pensamientos y las actitudes”.  Efesios 4:23 (NTV)

El cambio requiere un nuevo pensamiento. Para cambiar, debemos aprender la verdad y comenzar a tomar buenas decisiones, pero también debemos cambiar nuestra forma de pensar.

La batalla por el pecado comienza en tu mente, no en tu comportamiento. La manera en que piensas determina la forma en que sientes, y la forma en que sientes determina la forma en que actúas. Si quieres cambiar tu forma de actuar, comienza por cambiar tu forma de pensar. Además, si quieres cambiar la forma en que sientes, debes empezar cambiando tu forma de pensar.

Por ejemplo, puedes decir: “Necesito amar más a mis hijos”, pero eso no va a funcionar. No puedes luchar contra tus sentimientos. Debes cambiar la forma en que piensas acerca de tus hijos, de tu esposo, de tu esposa, y eso cambiará tu forma de pensar, lo cual cambiará tu manera de actuar. La Biblia dice: “Dejen que el Espíritu les renueve los pensamientos y las actitudes” Efesios 4:23 (NTV).

Déjame resumirte de esta manera: Tú no eres lo que crees que eres. Más bien, lo que piensas, que eres. La batalla para lidiar con esos defectos en tu vida que no te gustan comienzan en tu mente. Si quieres cambiar algo en tu comportamiento o algo en tus emociones, comienza con tus pensamientos y tu actitud.

La renovación de tu mente está relacionada con la palabra “arrepentimiento”. Sé que el arrepentimiento es una palabra confusa para mucha gente. Piensan que significa algo que realmente no quieren hacer o algo doloroso. Ellos piensan que es un hombre parado en una esquina de la calle con un aviso que dice: “Arrepiéntete! ¡El mundo está a punto de terminar! ”

El arrepentimiento no tiene nada que ver con tu comportamiento. Se trata de aprender a pensar de manera diferente. “Arrepentirse” significa simplemente hacer un giro mental. Es algo que haces en tu mente, no con tu comportamiento. Cambiar la forma en que piensas afectará tus emociones y tu comportamiento.

Cuando me arrepiento, vuelvo de la culpa al perdón. Cambio el Infierno por el Cielo. Cambio de una vida sin propósito a una vida con propósito. Paso de no tener esperanza a una nueva esperanza. Paso de la frustración a la libertad. ¡Me vuelvo de la oscuridad a la luz!

Ese es el tipo de cambio que necesito para poder cambiar el resto de mi vida.

It’s Time to Get Back in the Race

“I have done my best in the race, I have run the full distance, and I have kept the faith. And now there is waiting for me the victory prize of being put right with God.”

2 Timothy 4:7-8 (GNT)

The movie Rudy tells the story of Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger, whose only dream was to play football at Notre Dame—even though he didn’t have the grades to get into the college or the football skills to make the team. And yet, through persistence, hard work, and endurance, he managed to join the team as a walk-on and suit up for the last game of the 1975 season.

In the mostly fictionalized ending of the movie, for the last play of the game, the players on the sideline start chanting his name until the whole stadium takes it up: “Rudy, Rudy, Rudy!” And Rudy is carried off the field by his teammates to wild cheering and clapping and chants of his name. 

It’s an incredible scene. But it’s nothing compared to the reception you are going to receive one day when you complete your race and cross the finish line into eternity to the applause of heaven. Just imagine Jesus greeting you, and all the saints cheering your name.

You ought to be living for the applause of heaven, because that’s what’s going to matter for eternity. One day you will have the thrill of standing before God, your Creator, and having him say something like, “You did it! You finished the race. You didn’t get sidetracked or drop out. Well done. Let’s celebrate for eternity.”

The apostle Paul anticipated that reward. In 2 Timothy 4:7-8 he says, “I have done my best in the race, I have run the full distance, and I have kept the faith. And now there is waiting for me the victory prize of being put right with God, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that Day—and not only to me, but to all those who wait with love for him to appear” (GNT). 

Maybe you accepted Christ and started your race strong, but you have drifted into apathy. You’ve gotten sidetracked or wounded or discouraged.

Don’t wait another day to get back in the race. Start by saying this prayer to God:

“Dear God, I don’t want to sit on the sidelines for the rest of my life. I want to finish the race that you put me on earth for. Help me to stay focused on eternity and the rewards that lie ahead. I want to live for your eternal purposes and make the rest of my life the best of my life. Please help me to finish well. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Talk It Over

In what ways have you been living for the applause of other people instead of being focused on eternity?
What will need to change in your life for you to be able to finish your race well?
Maybe you’re still on the sidelines thinking about joining the race. What is the next step God is telling you to take? Who in your life can help you and talk to you about it?

If you haven’t trusted in Jesus, why wait any longer?

God’s great generosity is reflected in his gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Your sins separate you from God. And it is only God’s grace, through Jesus, that can get you back into right relationship with him.

The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you’re ready to make peace with your Creator, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. You have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to you.
“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

El Cambio Requiere que Tomes una Decisión

“Desháganse de su vieja naturaleza pecaminosa y de su antigua manera de vivir, que está corrompida por la sensualidad y el engaño”.  Efesios 4:22 (NTV)

El cambio requiere tomar decisiones. No basta con soñar con cambiar. No es suficiente con el deseo de cambio. Para que tú puedas cambiar, tendrás que tomar una decisión. Debes elegir cambiar.

El cambio es intencional: ¿vas a ser diferente en seis meses? ¿vas a ser mejor dentro de un año? ¿vas a ser más saludable, más fuerte y maduro? ¿vas a ser más feliz? ¿vas a estar menos endeudado? ¿vas a ser más como Dios quiere que seas?

Puedo darte la respuesta ahora mismo: sólo sucederá si tú eliges cambiar, porque no va a suceder accidentalmente. Quiero que seas mejor en 10 años de lo que eres ahora, pero no lo serás a menos que elijas serlo.

Requiere una elección.

Muchas veces creemos que debemos esperar que Dios nos cambie. No. No estás esperando a Dios. ¡Dios te está esperando a ti! Él está esperando que digas: “sí, aquí estoy Señor, dispuesto a hacer estos cambios”.

Tenemos que hacer elecciones intencionales para crecer. No hay crecimiento sin cambio, no hay cambio sin pérdida, y no hay pérdida sin dolor. Si vas a crecer, tendrás que cambiar, y el cambio significa dejar ir algunas cosas viejas con el fin de obtener algunas cosas nuevas.

Es como balancearse en un trapecio: el artista de trapecio oscila en una barra, y luego tiene que extender la mano y tomar la otra. En algún momento, tiene que soltar una para tomar la otra, o no vas a llegar al otro lado. Si piensas que puedes aferrarte a ambas, ¿qué sucede? Te quedas atrapado en el medio, y te caes.

Algunos de ustedes están atrapados en el centro, y van a caer porque no han abandonado los viejos patrones, los viejos hábitos y las viejas maneras de pensar. Tienes que dejar de lado tus viejas costumbres.

La Biblia dice: “Desháganse de su vieja naturaleza pecaminosa y de su antigua manera de vivir, que está corrompida por la sensualidad y el engaño” Efesios 4:22 (NTV). En otras palabras, déjalo ir. Esos viejos hábitos, esas viejas heridas, esos viejos patrones, esos viejos pecados en tu vida —déjalos ir. La Biblia dice que los desechen y confíen en que Dios está obrando en ustedes “y les da el deseo y el poder para que hagan lo que a él le agrada” Filipenses 2:13b (NVI).

¿Qué cambio has querido hacer en tu vida, pero has estado esperando que Dios lo haga por ti?¿Cómo crees que Dios quiere que sigas adelante con ese cambio? ¿Qué pasos prácticos necesitas tomar?¿Cómo quieres que tu vida sea diferente dentro de un año? ¿Qué se necesita para lograr ese objetivo?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Finish Well by Focusing

“Let us strip off every weight that slows us down . . . And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.”

Hebrews 12:1-2 (NLT)

Light diffused has no power at all. But focused light through a magnifying glass can burn a piece of grass or paper. If you focus light even more, it becomes a laser that can cut through steel. 

In the same way, the more focused your life is, the more effective you’re going to be.

But it matters what you focus on. An effective life for the Christian is not focused on your career, your income, your success, or even your problems. Why? Because none of those things are going to last. They’re all temporary. They’re all going to fade away.

Instead of focusing on anything of this world, you need to set your mind on two things: Jesus Christ and how he lived and the inevitable rewards that are coming when you cross the finish line and meet him in heaven.

Living a focused life takes persistence. And the key to persistence is perspective. It’s all in the way you look at life. Why always determines how long. When you figure out why you do what you do, then you’ll have the motivation to keep on doing it.

The reason why so many Christians falter and don’t end the race well is they forget why they’re doing it. Why am I reading the Bible or going to church or meeting with a small group or serving in ministry?

We do it because these are habits that help us grow spiritually and prepare us for eternity. When we forget that we’re living for eternity and instead live for now, the distractions of life get us off track. We have to stay focused.

The most powerful motivation in life is not internal or external. It’s eternal.

Do you know how many times I wanted to quit during the 40 years I was a pastor? Just about every Monday morning! I would get discouraged and say, “Surely, there’s got to be somebody who can do a better job than me!” But I kept going because I want to finish well for Jesus, and I’m living in light of eternity.

Hebrews 12:1-2 says, “Let us strip off every weight that slows us down . . . And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith” (NLT).

The secret to finishing well is focus. Keep your eyes on God. Keep your eyes on eternity. Keep your eyes on the reward. Keep your eyes on ending well.
