Dios Nos Hace Crecer Un Paso a la Vez

“Desháganse de su vieja naturaleza pecaminosa y de su antigua manera de vivir, que está corrompida por la sensualidad y el engaño.  En cambio, dejen que el Espíritu les renueve los pensamientos y las actitudes. Pónganse la nueva naturaleza, creada para ser a la semejanza de Dios, quien es verdaderamente justo y santo”. Efesios 4:22-24 (NTV)

Aunque Dios podría transformarnos instantáneamente, ha elegido desarrollarnos lentamente. Jesús fue cuidadoso en el desarrollo de sus discípulos, así como Dios permitió que los israelitas tomaran la Tierra Prometida “poco a poco” para que no se sintieran abrumados (véase Deuteronomio 7:22). Él prefiere trabajar paso a paso en nuestras vidas.

¿Por qué toma tanto tiempo cambiar y crecer? Hay varias razones:

Somos aprendices lentos. A menudo tenemos que volver a aprender una lección 40 o 50 veces para realmente obtenerla. Los problemas continúan y pensamos: “¡No otra vez! ¡Ya lo he aprendido!” Pero Dios sabe mejor. La historia de Israel ilustra cuán rápido olvidamos las lecciones que Dios nos enseña y cuán pronto volvemos a nuestros viejos patrones de comportamiento. Necesitamos enseñanza repetitiva.Tenemos que olvidar lo aprendido. Dado que la mayoría de nuestros problemas, y todos nuestros malos hábitos, no se desarrollaron de la noche a la mañana, no es realista esperar que desaparezcan de inmediato. No hay ninguna píldora, oración o principio que al instante deshaga el daño de muchos años. Requiere el arduo trabajo de eliminación y substitución. La Biblia lo llama “quitarse el viejo yo” y “vestirse del nuevo yo” (Romanos 13:12; Efesios 4:22-24; Colosenses 3:7-10, 14).El crecimiento a menudo es doloroso y aterrador. No hay crecimiento sin cambio, no hay cambio sin temor o pérdida, y no hay pérdida sin dolor. Cada cambio implica una pérdida de algún tipo. Tememos estas pérdidas, incluso si nuestras viejas maneras fueron contraproducentes, porque, al igual que un par de zapatos gastados, al menos eran cómodos y familiares.Los buenos hábitos tardan en desarrollarse. Recuerda que tu carácter es la suma total de tus hábitos. No puedes pretender ser amable a menos que seas habitualmente amable. Tus hábitos definen tu carácter.

Solo hay una manera de desarrollar los hábitos del carácter de Cristo: debes practicarlos, ¡y eso lleva tiempo! No hay hábitos instantáneos. Pablo le dijo a Timoteo: “Presta suma atención a estos asuntos. Entrégate de lleno a tus tareas, para que todos vean cuánto has progresado” 1 Timoteo 4:15 (NTV).

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Por qué crees que Dios nos permite pasar por el dolor y la pérdida mientras crecemos espiritualmente?¿Con cuál mal hábito has tenido problemas para cambiar? ¿Cómo te está ayudando Dios con esto ahora mismo en tu vida?¿Qué cosa necesitas practicar todos los días para que desarrolles un carácter más parecido a Cristo?

¿Has confiado en Jesús para tu salvación?

No importa lo que hayas hecho o dónde has estado, puedes tener un lugar en la familia eterna de Dios, listo y esperando por ti. La invitación está abierta. Solo cree y recibe.

¿Estás listo? Aquí hay una oración con la que puedes comenzar:

“Dios mío, sé que cuando muera voy a darte una cuenta de mi vida directamente. Confieso que te he ignorado. Sé que he pecado contra ti y he vivido según mi plan, no el tuyo. Quiero que eso cambie, comenzando ahora. Quiero alejarme de mis pecados y avanzar hacia ti”.

“Gracias por enviar a Jesús a morir por todo lo que hice mal para no tener que pagar la multa. Sé que no merezco tu perdón. Sé que solo tu gracia puede salvarme, Señor. Nunca podría ser lo suficientemente bueno para entrar en un lugar perfecto”.

“Jesús, gracias por amarme tanto que tomaste toda mi culpa contigo mismo. Me hiciste aceptable para el cielo, y humildemente te pido que me salves. Te pido que me salves de los pecados y los hábitos que están arruinando mi vida en este momento. Yo creo en ti, Jesús. Y creo que mantendrás tu promesa de salvarme al instante y de manera segura y completa y eterna. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén.”

Do You Have Room for Jesus?

“While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”

Luke 2:6-7 (NASB)

On that first Christmas, when Jesus was born, Mary and Joseph were at the end of a long journey—and they found there was no room for them in the local inn.

This is how the Gospel of Luke tells the story: “While they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn” (Luke 2:6-7 NASB).

Looking back at the story—knowing that the innkeeper turned away the Son of God—it’s easy to think the innkeeper should have made room for Mary, Joseph, and the soon-to-be-born Jesus. But the reasons the innkeeper didn’t make room for Jesus that first Christmas are some of the same reasons we don’t make room for him in our lives today. 

We don’t pay attention. Jesus shows up in your life all the time in unexpected opportunities, in words other people say to you, and in problems he allows so you can grow. He shows up; you often just don’t see him. 

We crowd our lives with other things. In Bethlehem, the problem was that the inn was already booked. This is a parallel to your heart. You were created to have God living inside you. But too often we rent our hearts out to other things, and there’s no room for Jesus.

The Message paraphrase of Deuteronomy 8:14 says, “Make sure you don’t become so full of yourself and your things that you forget GOD.” You can do lots of good things that leave you with no room for Jesus. If Satan can’t make you bad, he’ll just make you busy. He doesn’t care what distracts you, as long as you pay no attention to God. 

We really don’t think we need to make room for God. If we’re honest, deep down we really don’t want God. We have a sense of self-sufficiency that says, “I’m doing fine on my own.” You may be living a good life but “the good life” is not good enough. You need the better life. When you don’t allow God into your heart, you miss the very purpose of your life.

The innkeeper should have made room for Jesus, but he didn’t. Don’t make the same mistake.

You’re meant to be connected to God. Choose to make room in your heart for Jesus so you can get to know him, enjoy a life lived for him, and spend eternity with him.

Talk It Over

Look again at the three reasons people often don’t make room for Jesus. Which of these reasons is the biggest struggle for you?
What is occupying too much room in your heart, leaving little room for Jesus?
Imagine that you’re the innkeeper of your heart and Jesus is asking if there’s room for him. What would you say to him?

If you haven’t trusted in Jesus and committed to following him, why wait any longer?

God’s great generosity is reflected in his gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Your sins separate you from God. And it is only God’s grace, through Jesus, that can get you back into right relationship with him.

The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).


If you’re ready to make peace with your Creator, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. You have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to you.

“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Ríndete a lo que Jesús Revele

“Y estoy seguro de que Dios, quien comenzó la buena obra en ustedes, la continuará hasta que quede completamente terminada el día que Cristo Jesús vuelva”. Filipenses 1:6 (NTV)

Nos lleva años crecer hasta ser adultos y lleva una temporada completa para que la fruta madure y esté lista. Así de cierto es para el fruto del Espíritu. El desarrollo del carácter cristiano no puede apresurarse. El crecimiento espiritual, como el crecimiento físico, lleva tiempo.

Antes de que Cristo entre en nuestras vidas con la conversión, a menudo nos permite experimentar problemas para captar nuestra atención y mostrarnos que estamos viviendo una vida construida sobre una base defectuosa. En verdad, esa base defectuosa es lo que causa muchos de los problemas en nuestras vidas.

Jesús exige que entreguemos toda nuestra vida a Él. Él no quiere una pequeña porción de lo que eres. Es como esto: cuando tratas de salir de un río que tiene una parte inclinada, debes ponerte en pie para comenzar a subir. Y una vez que tengas el equilibrio, puedes escalar hacia la orilla y caminar alrededor.

Algunos de nosotros, cuando invitamos a Jesús a nuestras vidas, simplemente le damos un punto de apoyo, pero nos resistimos a sus esfuerzos para que demos un paso completo hacia afuera para que acceda plenamente a nuestras vidas. Jesús no está dispuesto a permanecer allí en ese punto de apoyo. Él quiere que le des toda tu vida.

Puedes pensar que entregaste toda tu vida a Él, pero la verdad es que aún te aferras a algunas partes de tu vida. Jesús no está molesto contigo. Simplemente quiere trabajar contigo para ayudarte a descubrir áreas que aún necesitas entregarle.

Habrá luchas y batallas, pero el resultado nunca será cuestionado. “Y estoy seguro de que Dios, quien comenzó la buena obra en ustedes, la continuará hasta que quede completamente terminada el día que Cristo Jesús vuelva” Filipenses 1:6 (NTV).

We Know How the Story Ends

“The Good News about God’s kingdom will be preached in all the world, to every nation. Then the end will come.”

Matthew 24:14 (NCV)

History’s conclusion is inevitable.

I believe this with all my heart. It’s done. It’s finished. There’s no doubt. I’ve read the final chapter.

God’s Word tells us how it’s going to end. One day God’s going to wrap it all up here on earth, and he’s going to take his children home to heaven to be with him forever. The Bible says, “The Good News about God’s kingdom will be preached in all the world, to every nation. Then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14 NCV).

I’m going to tell you something extremely important. We are not trying to set up a kingdom here on earth. We are trying to populate the Kingdom of heaven. We want our friends and our family and our neighbors and our coworkers­—the whole world!—to be with us in heaven.

Our goal is to bring people into God’s Kingdom so they can be with him for eternity.

How do we bring glory to God? He gets glory when we love him with all our hearts. God gets glory when we love other people in the family of God. God gets glory when we love people who are unlovable. God gets glory when we share the Good News with everybody, everywhere. God gets glory when we trust him with problems in our lives that cannot be solved except through a miracle. And God gets glory when we know and trust that the end is inevitable and that he wins.

Does that sound like the way you want to live your life? If so, pray this simple prayer today:

“Dear Jesus Christ, I want to be a part of what you’re doing in the world. I believe you want to use me. I want to return to my first love: you. I want to be your hands and feet in the 21st century. Help me to believe and live by your convictions. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Tus Decisiones Controlan Tu Calendario

“Pues cada uno es responsable de su propia conducta”. Gálatas 6:5 (NTV)

Tus elecciones son mucho más poderosas que tus circunstancias. Puede que no te guste lo complicado que se ha convertido tu vida. Pero con pocas excepciones, nadie te obliga a mantener tu vida complicada.

Tú tienes el poder de simplificar tu vida. De hecho, Dios espera que asumamos la responsabilidad de nuestras vidas y que elijamos cuidadosamente cómo pasamos nuestro tiempo.

Tienes el tiempo justo para hacer la voluntad de Dios mientras estás aquí en la Tierra. Te han dado el tiempo justo para cumplir tu propósito. Cuando tratas de hacer más de lo que Dios planeó para ti, es natural que te encuentres constantemente fuera de tiempo o estresado por tu horario.

Mi oración para ti es que encuentres alivio del estrés y una nueva sensación de satisfacción al hacer solamente las cosas que Dios te creó para que hicieras.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

Haz una lista de las actividades y responsabilidades que te causan estrés. Pídele a Dios que te ayude a determinar las cosas en tu agenda que nunca tuviste la intención de hacer.¿Dónde crees que Dios quiere que concentres tu tiempo y energía?¿Qué opciones necesitas hacer que te ayudarán a enfocarte más en lo que Dios ha planeado para ti?

¿Has comprometido tu vida con Cristo?

Trust God to Do Great Things

“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'”

Matthew 19:26 (NIV)

Everything is possible with God.

“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible’” (Matthew 19:26 NIV). 

When I was pastor at Saddleback Church, we launched the PEACE Plan. PEACE stands for Plant churches, Equip servant leaders, Assist the poor, Care for the sick, and Educate the next generation. What made us think we could lead thousands of other churches to go after some of the biggest problems on the planet, such as poverty, lack of education, and sickness?

The answer was—and still is—that we have a big God!

In fact, sometimes I hear people say, “Who do you think you are to try to do all this?” That’s the wrong question. The real question to ask is, “Who do you think God is?”

Because our God can do anything.

Jesus said, “According to your faith let it be done to you” (Matthew 9:29 NIV).

God wants to use you. He wants to bless you. He wants to do amazing things in your life. He wants you to be a world changer. But he’s waiting for you to trust him.

So stop saying, “I can’t.” “I can’t make this marriage work.” “I can’t do what God wants me to do.” “I can’t love those who are different than me.” Those are lies! All things are possible with God.

In the Living Bible paraphrase, Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now glory be to God, who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes” (TLB).

That’s why, through these devotionals, I push you. It’s because I know you have enormous potential—far beyond what you ever imagined. God wants to use you, and according to your faith, it will be done to you.

Do you know what the greatest opposition to your faith is? It’s not other people. It’s not critics. It’s not even the devil. It’s your unbelief

You have a choice. You can choose to believe God—or not. You can choose to trust God—or not. There are many things you don’t have control over. But you can choose to have faith in God.

Do you want God to do big things in your life? Then start believing.

Compararse Siempre te Lleva a la Codicia

“Es mejor ser feliz con lo que se tiene que querer siempre tener más y más”. Eclesiastés 6:9 (PDT)

El primer paso para ser una persona con contentamiento es dejar de compararte con los demás. ¡El problema es que compararse es el deporte favorito del planeta! Naturalmente lo hacemos todo el tiempo.

Caminas a la casa de alguien más, y lo primero que haces es hacer comparaciones: “¡Me gusta ese piso! ¡mira esas cortinas! ¡Guau, qué televisión!” Pasas caminando a alguien y piensas, “Me gusta lo que le hizo a su cabello; el mío se ve terrible hoy”. Constantemente estás comparando, y eso te mantiene frustrado. ¡Tienes que dejar de hacerlo! Si vas a aprender sobre contentamiento, debes dejar de comparar tu vida con la de todos los demás.

También debes aprender a admirar si querer adquirir. Necesitas aprender a regocijarte en la prosperidad de otros sin estar celoso y envidioso y sentir como que tú también lo tienes que tener.

Este es uno de los principios más grandes que los seres humanos no entienden. ¡No tienes que ser dueño para disfrutarlo! Tal vez te gusta vacacionar en las montañas. ¿Por qué tendrías que comprar una cabaña en las montañas cuando solo puedes rentarla o incluso pedirla prestada una vez al año, cuando vas a la montaña? Ser dueño no es la única forma de disfrutarla.

No es solo una buena idea dejar de comparar; es un mandamiento. Éxodo 20:17 dice, “No codicies la casa de tu prójimo… ni nada que le pertenezca” (NVI).

La codicia es el deseo excesivo de tener más, un pecado tan serio que está incluido en los Diez Mandamientos, y debemos evitarlo. En griego, la palabra “codicia” significa aferrarse con tanta fuerza a algo que no puedes soltarlo. Si Dios te da algo y te pide que lo entregues, pero no puedes hacerlo, eso significa que no eres dueño de ese objeto, sino que ese objeto te está controlando a ti.

Dios no está diciendo que nunca debas desear algo. Eso no es cristianismo; eso sería más bien budismo. El deseo en sí no es malo; de hecho, nuestros deseos provienen de Dios. Sin embargo, cuando un deseo se vuelve incontrolable, eso se convierte en codicia. Desear algo que no te pertenece está mal. Pero en su esencia, el deseo no es algo negativo.

No puedes hacer nada a menos que realmente lo desees. No puedes ser más como Cristo sin tener el deseo de ser más como Él. Por ejemplo, no puedes ser una persona más amable sin desear serlo. No puedes ser más generoso sin desear serlo. El deseo en sí mismo no es malo, pero se convierte en un problema cuando se vuelve incontrolable y sientes que siempre necesitas más. La raíz de este tipo de deseo está en compararte con los demás.

No puedes ser una persona con contentamiento hasta que aprendas a no comparar. ¿Por qué nunca debes comparar? Porque comparar siempre lleva a la codicia.

“Es mejor lo que se ve, que los deseos pasajeros” Eclesiastés 6:9 (RVC).

Reflexiona sobre esto :

¿Cómo puedes cambiar tu perspectiva sobre tus propias posesiones para que te puedas regocijar con otros sobre sus posesiones?¿Con qué crees que Dios quiere llenar tu vida en lugar de posesiones?Los cristianos hablan mucho sobre cómo Dios pone los deseos en su corazón. ¿Qué tipo de deseos crees que Dios quiere poner en el tuyo?

¿Has aceptado a Jesús como tú Señor y Salvador?  

La Biblia dice que todos nos quedamos cortos del estándar perfecto de Dios. Aun así, Dios todavía nos ama —incluso si hemos pecado y somo impuros. De hecho, Dios nos ama tanto que envió a su hijo, Jesús, a limpiarnos de nuestros pecados y a agregarnos a la familia de Dios.

Si nunca has aceptado el amor de Dios ni invitado a Jesús en tu corazón, quiero que tengas esa oportunidad ahora. Si las palabras de esta oración expresan tu corazón, entonces permite que Dios lo sepa al orarlas como una forma de decir, “Yo también”.

“Querido Dios, no lo entiendo todo, pero te agradezco que me ames. Te agradezco que has estado para mí y que hayas enviado a Jesús a salvarme y no a condenarme”.

“Confieso que he pecado contra ti, y admito que necesito a Jesús como mi salvador. Quiero tener una relación con Jesús. Quiero seguirlo y hacer las cosas que Él me diga que haga”.

“Te pido que me salves de mi pasado, mis arrepentimientos, mis errores, mis pecados, mis hábitos, mis heridas y mis complejos”.

“Te pido que me salves para tu propósito. Quiero saber por qué me pusiste en este planeta. Y quiero cumplir lo que quieras que haga. Quiero aprender a amarte y a confiar en ti y estar en tu familia para siempre. En tu nombre oro, amén”.

The Great Commission Is Not a Suggestion

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)

The whole world needs Jesus.

Jesus said this very clearly over and over, and in Matthew 28:18-20 he gave his followers the Great Commission: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (NIV).

What is your assignment? “Go.”

This is not a suggestion! It’s not optional. If you are a child of God, God expects you to go.

What’s the task? Go and make disciples. A disciple is someone who does the five things we were put on earth to do: know and love God, grow to spiritual maturity, serve God through ministry, share the Good News, and worship God with all your heart.

Under whose authority? It’s not some government or political movement. It’s Jesus.

What is your responsibility? Are you supposed to go and make disciples of some nations? No. All nations. Does that include nations that are outright hostile to believers? Yes. Countries where there is political turmoil? Yes. There is no nation that is off-limits.

What does it mean for you? If the whole world needs Jesus, then you must share the Good News. If you knew the cure for Alzheimer’s, AIDS, or cancer, it would be inexcusable to not share it.

But you have something even better than a cure for a disease. You know the cure for the human heart and the deepest needs of mankind. They need a Savior. They need forgiveness. They need their past forgiven, a purpose for living, and a home in heaven. You can’t hold it back. You have to share it!

John 3:17 says, “God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (NIV).

I want to be like Jesus. I want you to be like Jesus. It’s important that we stop getting too caught up in the culture and trying to find ways to get ahead in life. Let’s get busy sharing the Good News.

God doesn’t call everyone to move to another country to share the Gospel. If he hasn’t called you to that, how else can you help support his mission to share the Good News with the whole world?

El Temor te Mantiene Alejado de la Bendición Financiera de Dios

“Quítenle el dinero a este siervo y dénselo al que tiene las diez bolsas de plata. A los que usan bien lo que se les da, se les dará aún más y tendrán en abundancia; pero a los que no hacen nada se les quitará aun lo poco que tienen”. Mateo 25:28-29 (NTV)

¿Qué nos impide invertir? ¿Qué evita que nos movamos hacia la libertad financiera? Te diré lo que es: Temor.

En la Biblia puedes encontrar los principios financieros que Dios garantiza. Dios promete que si los haces, serás bendecido. Pero requieren de fe, y eso asusta a muchas personas. Ellos están temerosos de hacerlo a la manera de Dios.

Muchos tipos de temores te pueden detener. Uno de ellos es la duda. Has fallado en el pasado, así que nunca vas a intentar de nuevo. Pero solo porque fallaste no significa que te rindas. Todos fallan. ¡Es la única manera de aprender lo que si funciona! Dios usa a personas comunes que siguen tratando en lugar de rendirse.

Hubo dos discípulos que negaron a Jesús antes de su crucifixión: Judas y Pedro. Ellos cometieron el mismo pecado, pero la diferencia fue como reaccionaron a su falta. Judas se lamentó, deprimió y se quitó la vida.

Pedro, sin embargo, se dio cuenta de que lo que hizo estaba mal, así que oró y se arrepintió y le rogó a Dios por perdón. Entonces Jesús eligió que Pedro predicara en pentecostés, y 3,000 personas fueron salvas el primer día. Jesús eligió edificar su iglesia sobre el fracaso más grande del grupo.

¡Qué Dios tan grande! Él no escogió a una super estrella. Él eligió a la persona que peor se había equivocado.

A lo mejor cometiste grandes faltas en el pasado, pero no importa dónde has estado. Lo que realmente importa es hacia dónde van tus pasos ahora.

En la parábola de los talentos en Mateo 25, un hombre rico confió su dinero a sus sirvientes antes de salir a un largo viaje. Cuando regresó, les pidió cuenta a sus siervos. De los tres, dos de ellos duplicaron el dinero de su amo, pero el tercero tuvo temor y escondió su parte, en lugar de trabajarla e invertirla. Su temor decepcionó y molestó a su amo, quien dijo: “Quítenle el dinero a este siervo y dénselo al que tiene las diez bolsas de plata” Mateo 25:28 (NTV). El amo le quitó todo lo que había recibido el siervo.

El temor a menudo surge cuando intentamos hacer las cosas a la manera de Dios. Satanás intentará hacer que ignores los principios de Dios para la administración del dinero al producirte temor de equivocarte o hacerte dudar de tu habilidad de ser un buen administrador del dinero de Dios.

Pero, si vas a tener éxito en la vida, debes moverte contra tus temores. ¡Tienes que hacer la cosas que te dan más temor!

Cuando te mueves hacia la fe y sigues las guías de Dios para la paz financiera, experimentarás las bendiciones de Dios y aún más recursos y responsabilidad.

It’s All About God

“For everything comes from God alone. Everything lives by his power, and everything is for his glory.”

Romans 11:36 (TLB)

It’s not about you.

It’s all about God.

Those two go together. The reason it’s not about you is because it’s all about God.

Until you understand this, life is never going to make sense. The goal of life is not pleasure, possessions, prestige, politics, power, or popularity. It’s not anything that the world values. The goal of life is the glory of God.

Romans 11:36 says, “For everything comes from God alone. Everything lives by his power, and everything is for his glory” (TLB). Everything on the planet and in the universe was created for God’s glory.

What’s the implication of that?

If it’s all about God and it’s not all about you—or about making money or being popular or any of those other things the world thinks are important—then the implication is that loving God is your first priority. Jesus said it like this: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment” (Matthew 22:37-38 TLB).

Nothing tops this truth, folks! If you miss this, you’ll end up wasting your life. The most important thing in life is to love and get to know the God who created you.

Let me ask you a question. Have you decided what you’re going to love most of all in life? Maybe you used to love God most—he was number one in your life. What happened? Do you still love him as much? Have you lost your first love? Sometimes when you become familiar with something, you start taking it for granted. Don’t forget what an incredibly great thing you have in Jesus Christ!

So how do you come back to your first love? Start by reading his Word, the Bible. It’s not always the easy choice to make time for Bible study, but when you do, you’ll learn more about God and find your love for him deepened. And, as you start to understand that your life is about God, not you, you’ll find more joy in the pursuit of him.

Talk It Over

How does our culture try to convince you that life is all about you?
In what ways can you practice loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind?
Do you know anyone who lives in a way that shows that they believe life is all about God and not about them? What is one way you can follow their example in your own life?

If you haven’t trusted in Jesus and committed to following him, why wait any longer?

God’s great generosity is reflected in his gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Your sins separate you from God. And it is only God’s grace, through Jesus, that can get you back into right relationship with him.

The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you’re ready to make peace with your Creator, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. You have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to you.

“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
