Si Quieres Cambiar, Entonces Enfrenta la Verdad

“Ya que han oído sobre Jesús y han conocido la verdad que procede de él ”. Efesios 4:21 (NTV)

El secreto para el cambio personal no es la fuerza de voluntad. El secreto es conocer y enfrentar la verdad. Debes conocer y enfrentar la verdad sobre tu naturaleza si deseas realmente cambiar.

Nada cambiará en tu vida hasta que conozcas y enfrentes la verdad sobre tus debilidades, tus relaciones, tus éxitos y tus fracasos, tu pasado y tu futuro.

Nada cambiará hasta que conozcas y te enfrentes a la verdad y esa verdad se encuentra en Jesucristo.

¿Por qué es necesario aprender la verdad antes de que algo pueda cambiar en tu vida? Aquí está el por qué: Detrás de cada hábito contraproducente en tu vida hay una mentira en la que crees. Si te endeudas, es porque crees mentiras tales como “Puedo gastar y salirme con la mía” o “Siempre puedo devolver el dinero después”. Es posible que hayas sobreestimado el dinero que ibas a ganar, o creíste la mentira que necesitabas una casa mucho más grande.

¿Pero tú puedes estar seguro de que esto es verdad? ¿Puedes probar que es verdad? ¿Estás absolutamente seguro de que lo que crees que dijiste sobre tus finanzas es completamente cierto?

¿Qué hay de tus relaciones? ¿Qué hay de las cosas que te dices de ti mismo? ¿Es la verdad la forma en que piensas sobre tu pasado o sobre algún evento especifico, o es la verdad lo que Dios dice al respecto?

La Biblia enseña que el cambio personal comienza con la verdad y la verdad es la que te libera. El apóstol Pablo dice: “Ya que han oído sobre Jesús y han conocido la verdad que procede de él” Efesios 4:21 (NTV). ¿Quién es la verdad? Es Jesús, y porque Jesús es la verdad Él siempre te dirá la verdad. Su palabra es verdad. La Biblia es su Palabra y eso significa que la Biblia es verdad (Ver 2 Timoteo 3: 16-17).

Lo que escuchas en la televisión o lees en los libros no siempre te va a ayudar, porque no siempre es la verdad. ¿Has aprendido eso? Pero lo que Dios te dice siempre será la verdad. La Palabra de Dios te muestra cómo regresar a la vida para la que fuiste creado para vivir y luego te muestra cómo mantenerte en el camino de Dios.

Es por eso que es tan importante que tengas un tiempo a solas diariamente en la Palabra de Dios. Nada cambiará hasta que tengas la verdad en tu corazón. Mientras construyas tu vida sobre una base de mentiras, conceptos erróneos, engaños o verdades a medias, nunca cambiarás. Pero cuando enfrentas la verdad y respondes a la verdad, comenzarás a ver un cambio en tu vida.

How to Honor God with Your Body

“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NLT)

Sanctification is one of those words that you might have heard in church or read in a book without understanding exactly what it means. Though it sounds like it might be complicated, sanctification is actually simple: It means to dedicate something for God’s purpose.

You can sanctify anything—your car, your home, or even your job—by saying, “God, I dedicate this to you. Use it for your purpose.” But there’s something God specifically asks us to dedicate to Him—our bodies. The Bible says, “Don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by Godt? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT).

So how do you honor God with your body? It’s pretty simple: You take care of your body. When you take care of your body, you’re typically healthier, you have more energy, and God can use you more effectively.

This isn’t just about fitness—it’s about balance. God designed you with a need for proper rest, good nutrition, and regular exercise. He cares about your health. Psalm 119:73 says, “You made my body, Lord; now give me the sense to heed your laws” (TLB). 

Maybe you need more sleep. Staying up late to watch tv isn’t worth losing energy the next day. Psalm 127:2 says, “It is senseless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, for God wants His loved ones to get their proper rest” (TLB). Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is simply get some sleep.

Or maybe it’s your diet. The Message paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 6:13 says, “It may be true that the body is only a temporary thing, but that’s no excuse for stuffing your body with food, or indulging it with sex. Since the Master honors you with a body, honor him with your body!” When you put good fuel into your body, you honor God by doing your part to have the health you need to serve him well.

And let’s not forget exercise. We all need it. Strengthening your body through exercise helps equip you physically to live out God’s purposes for you.

Taking care of your body is about respect and stewardship. God created it, Jesus paid for it, and the Holy Spirit lives in it. So treat it well!

Recuerda: No Estás en Casa Todavía

“Así que no nos fijamos en lo visible, sino en lo invisible, ya que lo que se ve es pasajero, mientras que lo que no se ve es eterno”. 2 Corintios 4:18 (NVI)

Al esforzarte por alcanzar las metas que Dios te ha dado, es importante recordar que la vida en la tierra es solo un trabajo temporal. Saber esto debería alterar radicalmente tus valores y fijar tu atención en las cosas que son importantes eternamente.

Como observó C. S. Lewis, “Todo lo que no es eterno, lo que es eternamente inútil”.

Es un error fatal asumir que las metas de Dios son prosperidad material o éxito popular como lo define el mundo. La vida abundante no tiene nada que ver con la abundancia material. La fidelidad a Dios no garantiza el éxito en la carrera, ni siquiera en el ministerio. Nunca te enfoques en coronas temporales.

Pablo era fiel, sin embargo, terminó en la cárcel. Juan el Bautista era fiel, pero fue decapitado. Millones de personas fieles fueron martirizadas, perdieron todo o llegaron al final de sus días sin tener nada para mostrar. Pero el fin de la vida no es el fin.

La Biblia dice en 2 Corintios 4:18, “Así que no nos fijamos en lo visible, sino en lo invisible, ya que lo que se ve es pasajero, mientras que lo que no se ve es eterno” (NVI).

Cuando la vida se ponga difícil, cuando estés agobiado por las deudas, o cuando te cuestiones si vale la pena el esfuerzo de vivir para Cristo, recuerda que no estás en casa todavía. Al morir no dejarás tu hogar —irás a tu hogar.

You Don’t Have to Be Perfect to Be Used By God

“Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.”

2 Timothy 2:21 (ESV)

If you want to be used by God, you don’t have to be a perfect person—but you do need to purify your heart.

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:21, “Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work” (ESV).

God uses all kinds of people. He uses shy people and outgoing people. He uses people of different races, ages, stages of life, and backgrounds. He uses men and women. God will use plain vessels, ornate vessels, big vessels, and small vessels.

But there is one thing God will not use: He will not use a dirty vessel. You have to be clean on the inside. But here’s the good news: No matter who you are or what you’ve done, you can be made clean.

How do you do that? How do you become pure? You do it through a simple word: confession. Augustine, a Christian leader who lived a few hundred years after Jesus, said, “The confession of bad works is the beginning of good works.” The Bible says in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins to God, he will keep his promise and do what is right: he will forgive us our sins and purify us from all our wrongdoing” (GNT).

The word “confess” in Greek is the word homologeo. Homo means “same,” and logeo means “to speak.” So homologeo literally means “to speak the same” as God does about my sin. It means you agree with him: “God, you’re right. It wasn’t a mistake. It was a sin. It was wrong.” It doesn’t mean you bargain with God (“I’ll never do it again”). It doesn’t mean you bribe God (“I promise to read my Bible every day if you’ll forgive me”).

You just admit your sin.

That may seem too simple to you. You may ask, “All I’ve got to do is admit it, and God will forgive me?” Yes! It’s called grace.

Here’s what you can do if you really want to be used by God: Take time this week to sit down with a notebook or journal and ask God, “What’s wrong in my life? Show me. I’m going to write it down, and I’m going to admit it. I’m going to confess it to you.” Then, when God gives you an idea, write it down.

The first time I did this, I thought I was going to write a book! And I’ve done this many times since. Make a list, and then write 1 John 1:9 over the list and say, “God, I admit these sins to you. These are wrong. I don’t want them in my life.” Ask God to cleanse your life. God will forgive you!

You must purify your heart—it’s the starting point of being used by God.

Talk It Over

When was a time that you allowed sin to go unconfessed in your life? How did that affect how God was able to work through you?
Is there a sin in your life that you know you need to confess? Take a few minutes to confess it right now.
How does it feel when your heart is pure? How have you seen God use you when you were clean before him?

There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus

The Bible says in John 3:18, “Those who believe in the Son are not judged” (GNT). Romans 8:1 says it like this: “There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus” (NLT).

No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, you’ve got a place in God’s forever family ready and waiting for you. The invitation is wide open. Just believe and receive.

How do you do that? Trust in God’s character and the grace he extends. Confess your sins and ask God to forgive you. Claim the promise of Jesus, that salvation is free and open to anyone who turns from their sins and agrees to follow him as their Lord and Savior. Humbly ask God to accept you into his forever family.

Are you ready? Then start your journey by praying this simple prayer: “Dear God, I know when I die, I’m going to give an account of my life to you. I know I have sinned against you, and I have lived by my plan, not yours. I want that to change, starting right now. I want to turn away from my sins and toward you.

“Thank you for sending Jesus to die for all that I’ve done wrong so that I don’t have to pay the penalty. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I know only your grace can save me, Lord. I could never be good enough to get into a perfect place.

“Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I humbly ask you to save me. I believe in you, Jesus. And I believe you will keep your promise to save me instantly, certainly, completely, and eternally. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Cuando Venga un Cambio, ¡No te Rindas!

“Los ojos del Señor recorren toda la tierra para fortalecer a los que tienen el corazón totalmente comprometido con él”. 2 Crónicas 16:9 (NTV)

Cuando Dios te da una misión, puedes estar seguro de que enfrentarás atrasos, dificultades, desvíos y calles sin salida a lo largo del camino.  Son todos parte natural de la vida. Pero puedes estar preparado para ellos.

Por ejemplo, si alguien tuvo razón para estar desalentado, ese fue Noé. ¿Sabes cuánto trabajó en el arca? Le tomó 120 años. ¿Podrías estar 120 años en un Proyecto sin una palabra de aliento de parte de nadie?

Noé confió en Dios. Y cuando escuchó las advertencias de Dios sobre el futuro, le creyó, aunque no había la menor señal de una inundación. Estoy seguro de que hubo muchos días en los que Noé no tenía ganas de ir a trabajar, pero por 43,800 días fue al mismo lugar, y trabajó. Nunca renunció.

No renuncies a tus sueños tampoco. No renuncies a tu matrimonio. No renuncies a tu salud. No, no, no renuncies. Dios está en control. No has leído el último capítulo de tu vida. Dios ya lo escribió, pero todavía no lo has leído.

La Biblia dice: “Los ojos del Señor recorren toda la tierra para fortalecer a los que tienen el corazón totalmente comprometido con él” 2 Crónicas 16:9 (NTV). Dios está buscando personas que tengan el corazón totalmente comprometido con Él y su plan para poder bendecirlos.

Invest in Your Character, Not Your Comfort

“Grow in spiritual strength and become better acquainted with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

2 Peter 3:18 (TLB)

God wants you to grow spiritually and become more like Jesus Christ. One way you can do that is by taking some of your money and investing it in your personal growth.

The Bible says in 2 Peter 3:18, “Grow in spiritual strength and become better acquainted with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (TLB).

Your money can help you grow in spiritual strength. You can use it to develop skills, to educate yourself, to become a better leader, a better speaker, a better intercessor, or just a better person. 

The truth is, you’re not taking your car to heaven with you. You’re not taking your home, your phone, or your clothes to heaven either.

But you are taking your character. It may be tempting to use your money to invest in comfort, but God wants you to use your money to invest in things that will last for eternity—like your character.

Any time you use your money to buy a Christian book that will help you grow, you’ve invested in what I call God’s Growth Fund. Any time you use some of your money to pay for a retreat or a conference that improves your life, you’ve invested in the Growth Fund. Any time you spend money on a class or seminar that helps mature toward who God wants you to be, that’s a good use of your money.

I’ll never forget when I bought my first Bible. I was a teenager and thought, “This is the most important book to me, so I’m going to get the best one I can find.” I did a little research and found one I like called the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible. Then I said, “I want a binding that lasts, so I’m going to get it in the nicest leather I can find.” It cost me 60 dollars to buy that Bible—two months of my allowance. I gave up two months’ worth of snacks and movies, but I got a really good Bible I could use for the rest of my life.

I still have that Bible. It’s my most treasured possession because I’ve read through it so many times, so it’s underlined and marked up. 

The Bible says, “Why spend your money on something that is not real food? . . . Listen closely to me, and you will eat what is good; your soul will enjoy the rich food that satisfies” (Isaiah 55:2 NCV).

Why spend your money on junk food when you instead can invest in food for your soul? It will nourish you and satisfy you—for eternity.

Los Atajos Solo Te Sacarán del Camino

“Escucha atentamente mis palabras. No las pierdas de vista. Déjalas llegar hasta lo profundo de tu corazón, pues traen vida a quienes las encuentran y dan salud a todo el cuerpo”. Proverbios 4:20-22 (NTV)

Uno de los engaños que podrás enfrentar mientras cumples tu propósito en la vida es la tentación de los atajos.

En verdad, estos atajos solo te sacarán del camino. Los atajos pueden ser morales, éticos, espirituales, financieros o incluso atajos en tus relacionales personales.

Pero ellos te distraerán de lo que Dios quiere que hagas en la vida, eventualmente gastarán tu tiempo, energía, recursos y creatividad.

Los atajos son siempre miopes. Dios quiere que “…Piensen en las cosas del cielo, donde Cristo gobierna a la derecha de Dios. No piensen en las cosas de este mundo” Colosenses 3:2 (TLA).

Dios te dice, “Escucha atentamente mis palabras. No las pierdas de vista. Déjalas llegar hasta lo profundo de tu corazón, pues traen vida a quienes las encuentran y dan salud a todo el cuerpo” Proverbios 4:21-22 (NTV).

Worship Through Your Giving

“Honor the Lord by giving him the first part of all your income.”

Proverbs 3:9 (TLB)

When I was a kid, I used to buy or make little gifts for my parents. Every time I gave my parents a present, they were overjoyed. It wasn’t like they needed anything from me; they didn’t. They just enjoyed the fact that I thought of them.

I was eight years old when I went into a thrift store and bought my mother a dress for 25 cents. I thought it was a cool dress. It was about a size four, and my mom was a size 12. The clerk said, “Ricky, your mom couldn’t get her big toe in that dress.” I was so offended and went home crying. When I gave the dress to my mom, she was thrilled. And when she died, I found that dress in one of her chests. She’d kept it all those years.

There’s nothing you can give God that he needs. But when you give him an offering, you’re saying, “God, I love you. I’m thinking of you. I want you first in my life.”

The Bible says, “Honor the Lord by giving him the first part of all your income” (Proverbs 3:9 TLB). That’s called tithing. The Bible says that tithing is 10 percent of what you earn, and it’s what you should do first with your income.

Tithing doesn’t just honor God. It is also an act of worship. But the Bible says not all giving is an act of worship. So what kind of giving is worship?

The Bible says, “On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned” (1 Corinthians 16:2 NLT).

Worship giving is undesignated. That means you don’t control it, you don’t direct it, and you don’t tell God what to do with it.

Worship giving is given where you worship. It’s great to give to charities or friends in need, but that’s not worship through tithing. Your worship giving goes to your local church.

Worship giving is planned. You don’t just give spontaneously. You pray about it.

Worship giving is proportional. If you didn’t earn anything that week, don’t give anything. You earn a little, you give a little. You earn a lot, you give a lot.

Ultimately, God doesn’t want your money. He wants what your money represents. The most sensitive nerve in the body is the one that goes from the heart to the wallet. God wants your heart more than anything else.

Para Escuchar a Dios, Tienes que Acércate a Dios

“¡Pues el Señor concede sabiduría! De su boca provienen el saber y el entendimiento”. Proverbios 2:6 (NTV)

Tú dices, “Quiero confiar en Dios, pero no lo escucho”.

No escuchas a Dios cuando tu mente está llena con miles de otras distracciones. Para escuchar a Dios, tienes que estar cerca de Dios. Tienes que estar a solas con Dios y estar tranquilo.

La Biblia dice, “Quédense quietos, reconozcan que yo soy Dios” Salmos 46:10 (NVI). Eso significa que te vas a sentar y te vas a quedar tranquilo. Así es como escuchas a Dios y estás cerca de Dios. Tienes que sentarte solo y solo estar quieto con tu Biblia y decir, “Dios, ¿Hay algo que quieres decirme?” Lee la Palabra de Dios, y habla con Él sobre lo que está en tu corazón.

Dios dice que Él te dará la sabiduría que necesitas para reconocer Su voz y entender lo que dice: “¡Pues el Señor concede sabiduría! De su boca provienen el saber y el entendimiento” Proverbios 2:6 (NTV).

Haz esta oración hoy: “Dios, quiero escucharte a ti, no quiero escuchar las voces de la duda. Quiero estar más cerca de ti y conocerte mejor. Quiero escucharte, y prometo obedecerte. Quiero ser una de las personas que Tú puedas usar y bendecir”.

¿Qué necesitas cambiar sobre la forma en la que te encuentras con el Señor para que puedas estar tranquilo y acercarte a Él?¿Cómo reaccionas normalmente a las instrucciones de Dios para tu vida?¿Cómo puedes demostrar que estás listo para obedecer lo que Dios te manda a hacer?

¿Has aceptado el amor de Dios e invitado a Jesús a tu vida?

Quiero que tengas esa oportunidad justo ahora. ¿Estás listo? Aquí está una oración con la que puedes empezar:

“Querido Dios, yo sé que cuando muera voy a darte cuentas de mi vida. Sé que por mucho tiempo te he ignorado. Confieso que he amado otras cosas en vez de amarte a ti. He pecado contra ti, viviendo de acuerdo con mi plan no al tuyo”.

“Quiero que eso cambie, desde ahora en adelante. Quiero dejar mi pecado y buscarte a ti. Gracias por enviar a Jesús a morir por todo lo que he hecho mal. Sé que no merezco tu perdón, pero soy perdonado debido a la muerte de Jesucristo en la cruz. Y sé que tú puedes darme nueva vida, una vida libre del pecado, a causa de la resurrección de Jesús”.

“Yo sé que solo tu gracia puede salvarme. Señor, nunca podré ser lo suficientemente bueno para entrar al cielo por mis propios méritos. Jesús, gracias por amarme tanto que tomaste toda mi culpa sobre ti. Me hiciste aceptable ante Dios. Te pido que me salves del pecado y de los hábitos que está corrompiendo mi vida justo ahora. Yo creo en ti, Jesús. Y creo que mantienes tu promesa de salvarme instantánea, segura, completa y eternamente. En tu nombre oro, amen”.

Every Christian Is a Minister

“God . . . has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus; and long ages ago he planned that we should spend these lives in helping others.”

Ephesians 2:10 (TLB)

God did not put you on earth just to live for yourself. He wants you to make the world a better place!

Ephesians 2:10 says, “God . . . has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus; and long ages ago he planned that we should spend these lives in helping others” (TLB).

There’s a word for this kind of living: ministry. Every Christian is a minister. Not every Christian is a pastor, but every Christian is a minister. When you minister, you use your talents and gifts to make a contribution in life—you’re a giver, not a taker.

The Bible teaches us to love one another. Care for one another. Pray for one another. Encourage one another. Help one another. Counsel one another. Support one another. And on and on. It is the mutual ministry of every believer in the family of God to every other believer in the family of God. That’s the way God meant for it to be.

The truth is, serving God by serving others is not always easy. Sometimes you’ll get discouraged. So what do you do when you start to get discouraged? Remember two things.

First, remember the reward you’ll receive that will go on for eternity. The Bible says that God “will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers” (Hebrews 6:10 NLT). He will reward you in eternity.

The second thing to remember is that God uses every little thing that happens in your life. Nothing is insignificant when you serve God. None of it is in vain. “Keep busy always in your work for the Lord, since you know that nothing you do in the Lord’s service is ever useless” (1 Corinthians 15:58 GNT).

No matter who you are or where you live, if you’re a follower of Jesus, you’re a minister. As you walk through your day today, look for ways you can serve God by serving someone else.
