¿La Voz de Quién Estás Escuchando?

“Todo el que quiera ser sabio debe empezar por obedecer a Dios. Pero la gente ignorante no quiere ser corregida ni llegar a ser sabia”. Proverbios 1:7 (TLA)

¿Has notado que en el momento en que estableces un objetivo en tu vida, la gente comienza a decir: “¿Quién crees que eres?”, “No se puede hacer”, “Olvídalo”.

El antídoto para las voces de la duda es escuchar en su lugar la voz de Dios. Piensa en todas las críticas que Noé enfrentó en su vida. “Ese tipo, Noé, cree que Dios le habla, pero está desvalorizando nuestras propiedades al construir esa arca en su jardín”.

La Biblia nos dice que Noé escuchó a Dios. ¿Y qué escuchó? Escuchó la advertencia de Dios de que el mundo iba a ser destruido. Él creyó lo que aún no había visto. Esto es fe: estar seguros de algo que no vemos.

Noé no se apartó de la visión que Dios le había dado. En cambio, construyó el arca.

Dios te va a dar un objetivo para la vida, y algunas personas pueden pensar que es muy difícil. Pero tienes que mantenerte enfocado en lo que sabes que Dios ha dicho a través de su Palabra, la Biblia. ¡Entonces, tienes que construir tu arca!

God’s Family Helps You Grow

“He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.”

Ephesians 4:16 (NLT)

God doesn’t want you to remain a spiritual baby. He wants you to grow and become like Christ.

But here’s the catch: You can’t do it on your own. Babies don’t just grow up on their own. They need others to help them grow up. And you need a spiritual family, just like you needed someone to help you grow up when you were young. Your spiritual family is more than just a place where you belong. It’s also a place where you grow up in your faith.

The Bible says, “He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love” (Ephesians 4:16 NLT).

God puts church leaders—like pastors, Bible study teacher, and small group leaders—in your life to help you grow in your relationship with Jesus. The Bible says, “Their purpose is to prepare God’s people to serve and to build up the body of Christ . . . until we become mature, until we measure up to Christ, who is the standard” (Ephesians 4:12-13 GW).

The Bible has a word for this kind of growth. It’s called discipleship. Discipleship is the process of growth from a spiritual baby to a spiritual adult. It means you’re maturing in your faith. You’re getting stronger. You’re developing some muscle.

So how can you grow as a disciple?

The Bible says in Acts 2 how people grew in the first church: “Those who believed . . . were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all. All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer” (Acts 2:41-42 NLT).

That chapter later goes on to say, “They worshipped together regularly at the Temple each day, met in small groups in homes for Communion, and shared their meals with great joy and thankfulness” (Acts 2:46 TLB).

First, you believe. Then you get baptized. And then it’s important that you become part of a church family and participate in large group worship and small group fellowship.

Learn from your leaders in the church. Learn from your peers. Commit to growing spiritually as a disciple and a member of the body of Christ.

No Permitas que las Distracciones te Desvíen de lo Mejor

“Adquiere sabiduría, desarrolla buen juicio. No te olvides de mis palabras ni te alejes de ellas”. Proverbios 4:5 (NTV)

Una de las pruebas más importantes que todos enfrentamos al tratar de lograr lo que Dios nos ha llamado a hacer, es nuestra respuesta a las distracciones culturales. ¿Te resulta familiar la pérdida de tu concentración por alguna de estas distracciones?

La distracción de la popularidad. Si siempre estás preocupado por lo que otras personas piensan, te distraerá de tu propósito.

La distracción del placer. Está bien divertirse y sentirse cómodo, pero si ese es el enfoque principal de tu vida, nunca cumplirás tu propósito.

La distracción de las ganancias. No puedes servir a Dios y al dinero. Obtener ganancias no debe ser el enfoque principal de tu vida.

La distracción de las posesiones. Juzgar tu éxito por la cantidad de cosas que posees te mantendrá preocupado de guardar esas cosas y mantenerlas.

Si vas a cumplir la misión que Dios te ha encomendado, debes atreverte a ser diferente a los demás. Mantente enfocado en lo más importante de todo: tu relación con Jesucristo.

You’re Not Alone; You’re Part of a Family

“Christ makes us one body and individuals who are connected to each other.”

Romans 12:5 (GW)

The church not only helps you center your life on God, but it also helps you connect with other believers.

God did not put you here to live an isolated life. While you’re on earth, God wants you to learn to love other people, and he wants you to practice loving others in his family. The Bible says, “Christ makes us one body and individuals who are connected to each other” (Romans 12:5 GW). When you become a child of God, you’re connected to other believers as their brother or sister.

The Bible says you’re part of a body. What is this body? The Message paraphrase of Romans 12:5 says it this way: “The body we’re talking about is Christ’s body of chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of his body. But as a chopped-off finger or cut-off toe we wouldn’t amount to much” (MSG).

When you’re disconnected from God’s family—the body of Christ—your spiritual life will be weak. It’s like cutting off a finger; a finger dies when it’s separated from the rest of the body. To fulfill its purpose, a finger has to stay connected to a body. In the same way, you need to be connected to other Christians, to the body of Christ, if you want to grow spiritually and fulfill God’s purpose for your life.

A study on mental health revealed that if you isolate yourself from others and don’t develop close friendships (like those in a small group), you are three times more likely to die an early death. You’re four times more likely to suffer emotional burnout. You’re five times more likely to be clinically depressed. And you’re 10 times more likely to be hospitalized for an emotional or mental disorder. We need each other.

No matter your situation, find ways to connect to other believers. Become part of a church family. Join a small group. Get connected. As Ephesians 2:19 says, “You are members of God’s very own family . . . and you belong in God’s household with every other Christian” (TLB).

Talk It Over

Why do you think God wants you to practice loving other believers here on earth? What is it practice for?
How does the meaning of your life change when you understand you’re part of the body of Christ?
How has being connected to other believers helped you grow spiritually?

Where will you spend eternity?

Your sins separate you from God. And it is only God’s grace that allows you back into a right relationship with him.

The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).


If you’re ready to make peace with your Creator, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. You have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I believe you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.

“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Sé Sabio: Mira Hacia Adelante y Afronta la Realidad

“Los prudentes saben a dónde van, en cambio, los necios se engañan a sí mismos”. Proverbios 14:8 (NTV)

Mucha gente en la vida empieza bien, pero terminan progresando pobremente porque no planean para las dificultades. Pero la Biblia dice que la gente sabia mira hacia delante y enfrenta la realidad.

Mientras hacemos planes para el futuro, todos enfrentamos dificultades, como distracciones culturales, voces de duda, atajos tentadores, y demoras desalentadoras. Sólo mira a Noé: Enfrentó una variedad de obstáculos después de que Dios le mandó construir el arca, pero él los superó —y tú también puedes.

Ahora bien, esto no quiere decir que Dios te dará una meta tan audaz como construir un arca, pero oro que él te dé una gran meta —aún una audaz— para tus próximos diez años.

La Biblia dice, “Los prudentes saben a dónde van, en cambio, los necios se engañan a sí mismos” Proverbios 14:8 (NTV). Mirando hacia delante, no solamente estaremos preparados para ubicar las dificultades cuando lleguen a nuestras vidas, también estaremos equipados para hacer planes que nos ayuden a convertirnos en las personas que Dios quiere que seamos.  

Pide a Dios que te ayude a establecer metas para la próxima década de tu vida. Entonces estarás listo para moverte hacia delante y aprenderás a manejar las dificultades que potencialmente te impiden llegar a donde Dios quiere que vayas.

God Shaped You for Service

“God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us to do good works, which God planned in advance for us to live our lives doing.”

Ephesians 2:10 (NCV)

God shaped you to serve him.

The Bible says, “God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us to do good works, which God planned in advance for us to live our lives doing” (Ephesians 2:10 NCV).

God didn’t put you on this planet just to take up space. He has a purpose for your life. The talents you have are not for your benefit. God gave you your talents to benefit other people. That’s because God wired the universe so we would need each other—nobody has it all together.

In fact, before you were born, God decided what contribution he wanted you to make. And nobody else can be you. When you don’t serve God the way he intended for you to serve him, then the world misses out.

Another name for “good works” is “ministry.” Any time you use your talents and abilities to help somebody else, you are ministering to them. The Bible says in 1 Peter 4:10, “God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other, passing on to others God’s many kinds of blessings” (TLB). 

Did you know that when you serve other people, you’re also serving God? In fact, God says that any time you help somebody else, it’s like you’re doing it for him.

Jesus said, “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. . . . And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward” (Matthew 10:40, 42 NIV).

What unique talents and abilities has God given you? Make a list!
Now think about the needs in your community. What are some specific ways you could meet those needs using your God-given talents and abilities?
Matthew 10 tells you to welcome people and to offer cold water to those who need it. What people in your community need to be welcomed? Who needs a cup of cold water (or perhaps something else, like a hot meal or a ride to a doctor appointment)?

Enfrentando los Hechos con Fe

“Y la fe de Abraham no se debilitó a pesar de que él reconocía que, por tener unos cien años de edad, su cuerpo ya estaba muy anciano para tener hijos, igual que el vientre de Sara”. Romanos 4:19 (NTV)

A veces la gente cree equivocadamente que la fe significa ignorar los hechos. ¡Pero nada podría estar más lejos de la verdad!

Abraham entendió esto: “Y la fe de Abraham no se debilitó a pesar de que él reconocía que, por tener unos cien años de edad, su cuerpo ya estaba muy anciano para tener hijos, igual que el vientre de Sara” Romanos 4:19 (NTV).

Abraham tenía 99 años y su esposa 89. Era médicamente imposible que tuvieran hijos. Él no negó los hechos. Los enfrentó con fe.

La fe no ignora la realidad. No pretende que no hay un problema. La fe es enfrentar los hechos de tu vida sin desanimarte por ellos.

Algunas personas enseñan un cristianismo que dice que los creyentes deben negar sus problemas y simplemente sonreír mientras viven la vida. Pero ese no es el camino de Jesús.

La fe nunca te pedirá que niegues la realidad. No es vivir en negación. No es aferrarse al pasado. La fe no es una tontería obstinada.

Es posible que tengas que hacer un duelo legítimo por un diagnóstico que no has querido admitir o un sueño para tu vida que nunca se hará realidad.

Pero no necesitas compadecerte. Tienes que decirle a Dios: “No resultó como yo quería, pero sé que tienes un mejor plan para mi vida”.

Así es la fe. Dios no ha terminado con tu vida. ¡Dios tiene cosas buenas guardadas para ti! Puedes enfrentar los hechos y elegir no desanimarte por ellos.

Cuando era joven, la autora y sobreviviente del Holocausto Corrie Ten Boom estaba comprometida para casarse. De repente, el hombre rompió con ella y se casó con una amiga. Ella estaba devastada. Nunca se casó y vivió como una mujer soltera.

Corrie Ten Boom no se encerró en sí misma, sino que reorientó su amor. Se convirtió en una de las líderes cristianas más amorosas del siglo XX, influyendo en millones de personas.

Solo lo hizo porque se negó a negar los hechos. Confió en Dios y amó a los demás a través de su fe.

Tú puedes hacer lo mismo.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Cuál es la diferencia entre el duelo y el sentimiento de autocompasión?¿Puedes pensar en alguna ocasión en la que hayas tenido que reconocer una verdad o una realidad difícil? ¿Cómo te ayudó tu fe a sobrellevar esa situación?¿Cuáles son algunas de las formas en las que puedes ayudar a los demás a enfrentar hechos importantes con fe?

¿Qué harás cuando Jesús regrese?

La Biblia dice que solo puedes llegar al cielo confiando en el Hijo de Dios, Jesucristo. No puedes ganarte la entrada al cielo: “Porque por gracia ustedes han sido salvados mediante la fe. Esto no procede de ustedes, sino que es el regalo de Dios y no por obras, para que nadie se jacte” Efesios 2:8-9 (NVI).

Si estás listo para entregar tu vida a Jesús, comienza por hacer esta oración:

“Querido Dios, has prometido que, si creo en tu Hijo, Jesucristo, todo lo malo que haya hecho será perdonado, aprenderé el propósito de mi vida y me aceptarás en tu hogar eterno en el cielo un día.

Confieso que he pecado y te pido perdón. Creo que Jesús murió para quitar mis pecados y que tú lo resucitaste. Quiero confiar en Jesús como mi Salvador y seguirlo como Señor desde este día en adelante. Guía mi vida y ayúdame a hacer tu voluntad. En el nombre de Jesús, te lo pido. Amén”.

God Helps You Grow

“From the very beginning God decided that those who came to him—and all along he knew who would—should become like his Son.”

Romans 8:29 (TLB)

God’s goal has always been for you to grow up spiritually. He wants you to become more and more like Jesus every day.

The Bible says, “From the very beginning God decided that those who came to him—and all along he knew who would—should become like his Son” (Romans 8:29 TLB).

This is the number one question I’ve been asked over the years: “Why is this happening to me?” I’ll tell you why: It’s to help you grow.

In fact, everything in life can help you grow up spiritually—the good, the bad, the ugly, the things you bring on yourself, and the things that other people do to you. God is not the author of evil. But God can bring good out of bad things.

Every situation in life will either make you bitter or make you better. It’s your choice how you choose to respond. Instead of asking, “God, why is this happening to me?” ask, “God, what do you want me to learn from this?”

Every problem has a purpose: to help you grow up spiritually and be more like Jesus Christ.

So—since one of the purposes of your life is to grow up spiritually and to become like Jesus—what is Jesus like? Just look at the fruit of the Spirit. The Bible says, “The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23 NLT). These are the qualities God wants to develop in you.

How does God produce those qualities and help you grow up spiritually? He teaches you those qualities by putting you in the exact opposite situations. He teaches you love by putting you around unlovely people. He teaches you joy in the middle of grief. God teaches you peace when you’re surrounded by chaos. He teaches you patience when it seems like the line you’re waiting in goes on forever.

God will teach you these qualities throughout your life—and the process will take the rest of your life. But you can trust that, whatever you face today, he will use it to help you develop spiritual depth and become more like Christ.

Cuando Toda Esperanza está Perdida, Cree en las Promesas de Dios

“ Abraham confió en Dios cuando Dios quiso probar si él lo obedecería o no. Por eso Abraham tomó a su hijo Isaac para ofrecerlo como sacrificio. No le importó que fuera su único hijo, ni que Dios le hubiera prometido que por medio de Isaac tendría muchos descendientes ”. Hebreos 11:17-18 (TLA)

¿Alguna vez has sentido que tu esperanza muere?

Puedes saber que la esperanza está muriendo cuando te escuchas a ti mismo decir la palabra “nunca”: “Nunca me casaré. Nunca conseguiré ese trabajo. Nunca tendré hijos”.

Sin duda no estás solo. Uno de los más grandes héroes de la fe en la Biblia, Abraham, se sintió así.

Romanos 4:18 nos dice: “Cuando Dios le prometió a Abraham que tendría muchísimos descendientes, esto parecía imposible. Sin embargo, por su esperanza y confianza en Dios, Abraham llegó a ser el antepasado de gente de muchos países que también confían en Dios” (TLA).

¿Qué haces cuando la esperanza muere y estás listo para rendirte? Confías en lo que Dios ha prometido. ¿A dónde te diriges cuando todo en ti siente que duda de Dios? Te diriges a la Palabra de Dios.

Para convertirte en una persona de fe, necesitas la Palabra de Dios en ti.

Observa que la Biblia dice que Abraham “confió en la Palabra de Dios”. ¡Nada es más confiable que la Palabra de Dios!

Incluso cuando Abraham enfrentó su mayor prueba —Dios le pidió que sacrificara a su hijo— confió en las promesas de Dios.

“Abraham confió en Dios cuando Dios quiso probar si él lo obedecería o no. Por eso Abraham tomó a su hijo Isaac para ofrecerlo como sacrificio. No le importó que fuera su único hijo, ni que Dios le hubiera prometido que por medio de Isaac tendría muchos descendientes” Hebreos 11:17-18 (TLA).

Después de que Abraham y Sara esperaron años por un hijo, Dios les dio a Isaac. Y luego Dios le dijo a Abraham que sacrificara a Isaac.

Abraham no entró en pánico. La Biblia muestra tres formas en que Abraham respondió con fe:

Abraham creyó que Dios podía resucitar a su hijo de entre los muertos (Hebreos 11:19).​​Abraham le dijo a su siervo: “Volveremos”, no, “Volveré” mientras él e Isaac se dirigían a la colina para el sacrificio (Génesis 22:5).Cuando Isaac le preguntó a Abraham: “¿Dónde está el cordero que sacrificaremos?”, Abraham respondió: “El Señor proveerá” (Génesis 22:8).

Abraham creyó en las promesas de Dios. Sabía que Dios podría o proteger a su hijo o resucitarlo.

Cuando toda esperanza parezca perdida, pon tu esperanza en Dios. “Y esa esperanza no acabará en desilusión. Pues sabemos con cuánta ternura nos ama Dios, porque nos ha dado el Espíritu Santo para llenar nuestro corazón con su amor” Romanos 5:5 (NTV).

Reflexiona sobre esto:

Give to Encourage God’s Family

“Love one another with mutual affection.”

Romans 12:10 (NRSVUE)

The Bible instructs followers of Jesus to “love one another with mutual affection” (Romans 12:10 NRSVUE). But what does that really mean?

There are many ways we can do that, but one of those ways is to use our resources—whether that’s money, time, or effort—to express love to each other. Every time you give to God, you’re drawn closer to him—and every time you give to other people, you grow closer to them.

I like to think of loving other believers as investing in God’s Mutual Fund—in something that will yield dividends for eternity.

When you write a note of encouragement to a fellow believer, you make a deposit in God’s Mutual Fund. When you take a meal to someone who’s ill, you invest in them. Did you open your home for a small group gathering? That’s another deposit in the Mutual Fund. When you watch someone else’s kids so they can attend a church retreat, you’re still investing. Or how about when you take a struggling friend out for lunch and conversation? That’s an investment in the Mutual Fund.

Every act of love, every small gesture—it all counts. You’re not just giving to meet a need; you’re also building something eternal. You’re storing up treasures in heaven.

Why should we do this? The Bible says, “What you are doing is much more than a service that supplies God’s people with what they need. It is something that will make many others thank God” (2 Corinthians 9:12 CEV).

When we believers give to each other, we make the gospel visible. Our generosity becomes a living testimony. When we’re generous and hospitable, even to those we don’t know well, we’re showing the world what true faith looks like.

As Psalm 133:1 says, “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity” (NIV). That’s the power of investing in the Mutual Fund—our love builds unity and reflects God’s heart to the world.
