Una Fe Audaz Asume Riesgos

“Por el poder de Dios que obra en nosotros, él puede hacer mucho más de lo que jamás podríamos pedir o imaginar”. Efesios 3:20 (PDT)

¿Qué significa tener una fe audaz? Significa asumir riesgos.

La Biblia dice: “Sin fe es imposible agradar a Dios” Hebreos 11:6 (NVI).

Un ejemplo de asumir riesgos lo vemos en la parábola de los talentos. En Mateo 25, Jesús cuenta la historia de un hombre que se ausentó por un tiempo y les dio a sus siervos algunos “talentos”, una gran cantidad de dinero. A una persona le dio un talento, a otra le dio dos talentos y a otra más le dio cinco talentos.

La persona de los cinco talentos invirtió su dinero y lo duplicó. La persona de los dos talentos lo invirtió y obtuvo dos talentos más. Cuando el señor regresó y vio lo que habían hecho, les dijo: “¡Hiciste bien, siervo bueno y fiel!” Mateo 25:23 (NVI).

Pero el que recibió un talento tuvo temor, así que escondió su talento en la tierra. Al ver esto, el señor le dijo: “¡Siervo malo y perezoso! ¿Así que sabías que cosecho donde no he sembrado y recojo donde no he esparcido? Pues debías haber depositado mi dinero en el banco, para que a mi regreso lo hubiera recibido con intereses” Mateo 25:26-27 (NVI).

La lección que Jesús quiere que aprendamos es esta: Dios quiere que corras riesgos con fe. Si aprovechas al máximo lo que te ha dado, entonces confiará en ti más. Pero si tienes temor y no corres riesgos, entonces en realidad estás siendo infiel, no estás actuando con fe, con lo que Dios te ha dado. Y eso incluye tus habilidades, relaciones, finanzas y carrera.

Recuerdo cuando la Iglesia Saddleback estaba comprando nuestro campus de 120 acres en el condado de Orange, California. La gente de la comunidad empezó a preguntarse: “¿Quiénes se creen que son esas personas que compran tanto terreno en el condado de Orange?”.

Cuando los escuché, pensé: “Pregunta equivocada”. La pregunta correcta es: “¿Quién creemos que es Dios?” Entonces dejamos que el tamaño de nuestro Dios determine el tamaño de nuestra meta.

Efesios 3:20 dice: “Por el poder de Dios que obra en nosotros, él puede hacer mucho más de lo que jamás podríamos pedir o imaginar” (PDT).

Así que adelante, toma grandes riesgos y ten una fe audaz. Dios puede tomar tu sueño más grande y superarlo.

Name Your Values, Then Live by Them

“[Moses] regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.”

Hebrews 11:26 (NIV)

What matters most to you? What are the top three or four values in your life?

Here’s a decision that will transform your life: Choose God’s values over the world’s. Moses made this life-shaping resolution. And that’s why God used him!

Hebrews 11:26 says, “He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward” (NIV).

Moses made an assessment of his values. He clarified what mattered most to him. He knew what his top values were.

I can easily name my top values: integrity, humility, and generosity. I decided long ago that I wanted to build my life on those three things—because they’re the antidotes to the three traps of leadership.

Can you name the three most important values in your life? If you can’t, then you certainly can’t live by them.

Before you let another day go by, sit down and ask yourself, “What’s most important to me? What are the top values in my life?” Write them down—because until you clarify your values, you can’t live by them.

Why is this so important? If you don’t decide what’s important in your life, other people will decide for you. They’ll shape you into their mold, and you’ll live your life by their values, not your own.

When you know what’s most important to you and choose to live by God’s values, God will use you and bless your life too.

¿Qué Harás Hoy Que Requiera Fe?

“No nos cansemos de hacer el bien, porque a su debido tiempo cosecharemos si no nos damos por vencidos”. Gálatas 6:9 (NVI)

El fracaso nunca es definitivo. Nunca eres un fracaso hasta que te rindes, ¡y siempre es demasiado pronto para rendirse! No se determina la grandeza de una persona por su talento, su riqueza o su educación. Se determina la grandeza de una persona por lo que se necesita para desanimarla.

Entonces, ¿qué se necesita para desanimarte de perseguir tu sueño? Puede ser tan simple como que un amigo o familiar te diga: “No creo que sea una buena idea”.

La Biblia dice en Gálatas 6:9: “No nos cansemos de hacer el bien, porque a su debido tiempo cosecharemos si no nos damos por vencidos” (NVI).

¿Quieres saber cuántas veces quise renunciar a la Iglesia Saddleback? Cada lunes por la mañana pensaba: “Dios, seguramente alguien podría haber hecho un mejor trabajo que el que hice ayer. Esto es demasiado grande para una sola persona”.

Y es como si Dios dijera: “Sigue adelante”. Puede que a veces no sea muy brillante, pero no sé cómo rendirme. No sé cómo darme por vencido.

Dios obra en tu vida según tu fe. La Biblia dice:

“Sin fe es imposible agradar a Dios” Hebreos 11:6 (NVI).

“Todo lo que no proviene de fe es pecado” Romanos 14:23 (RVA-2015).

“Que se haga con ustedes conforme a su fe” Mateo 9:29 (NVI).

Entonces, ¿qué estás haciendo con fe? Debes preguntarte todos los días cuando te levantes: “Dios, ¿qué puedo hacer hoy que requiera fe?” Esa es una pregunta importante, porque vivir cada día por fe agrada a Dios.

Hay muchas cosas en tu vida sobre las que no tienes control. No controlas quiénes fueron tus padres, cuándo naciste, dónde naciste o cuál es tu raza o nacionalidad. No controlas qué dones y talentos recibiste. No decides cómo te ves.

Pero sí tienes control total sobre cuánto eliges creerle a Dios. Dios usa personas que esperan que Él actúe, que nunca se dan por vencidas, que toman riesgos con fe, que van tras el sueño que Él les ha dado.

¿Quieres ser el tipo de persona que Dios usa para cumplir su propósito? ¡No dejes que nada te desanime de seguir Su sueño!

For Long-term Gain, Choose Short-term Pain

“[Moses] chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.”

Hebrews 11:25 (NIV)

If you’re going to be good at anything—if you’re going to have long-term gain—you’ve got to accept short-term pain. Anybody who’s ever played sports knows this. To end up in a championship game, you’ve got to work hard and practice for long hours.

But it’s true in more than sports. It’s true in finances and in relationships. I have a good marriage, but Kay and I have worked hard at it for years. It didn’t come easy. To make your marriage work, you’ve got to work at it, just like anything else in life.

Many of your problems come from your inability to delay gratification. Society teaches you to say, “I want everything, and I want it now. And I want it to be free and easy.” But life doesn’t work like that!

To experience long-term gain, you have to make a choice, like Moses did: “He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin” (Hebrews 11:25 NIV).

He chose to be mistreated—to endure short-term pain for the long-term gain of doing the right thing.

Pain is part of life. And if you choose to do the hard thing right now and put in the effort to learn and grow, to become strong and mature, then later in life you will benefit from it.

For example, some people are benefiting right now from decisions they made earlier in life not to spend more than they made—to save, tithe, and honor God. They’re benefiting many years later because they were disciplined and did the hard thing first.

When you choose the short-term pain like Moses did, you’ll see God deliver you so that you can enjoy the long-term reward.

Da el Siguiente Paso de Fe

“—Puedes irte —dijo Jesús—, tu fe te ha sanado. Al instante recobró la vista y comenzó a seguir a Jesús por el camino”. Marcos 10:52 (NVI)

No sé cuál es el siguiente paso que debes dar, pero sí sé que debes hacerlo.

Tu próximo paso puede ser aceptar a Jesucristo en tu vida o bautizarte. Tal vez necesites unirte a una iglesia, mostrar más gratitud, ir a un viaje misionero, ser generoso con alguien que lo necesite, tomarte un tiempo para descansar o elegir confiar en Dios en lugar de confiar en ti mismo.

No sé cuál es tu próximo paso, pero sí sé esto: tienes uno. Dios nunca terminará de llevarte más profundamente en la fe. Siempre hay un próximo paso.

Si no das el siguiente paso, te quedarás estancado en una rutina. Y la única diferencia entre una tumba y una rutina es la longitud. Si no avanzas con fe, tu corazón se enfriará y te distanciarás más de Dios. Él no te ayudará con los pasos dos, tres, cuatro o cinco hasta que des el primer paso.

Si le estás pidiendo a Dios que te ayude con algo, es posible que te pregunte: “¿Por qué no has hecho lo que ya te dije que hicieras?”. Es posible que hayas estado planeando hacer algo. Deja de planear y simplemente hazlo.

Bartimeo era un hombre ciego que invocó a Jesús con fe, creyendo que Jesús podía sanarlo. Antes de encontrarse con Jesús, Bartimeo estaba sentado al lado del camino. Después de recibir del Señor el milagro de la vista, “—Puedes irte —dijo Jesús—, tu fe te ha sanado. Al instante recobró la vista y comenzó a seguir a Jesús por el camino” Marcos 10:52 (NVI).

¿Cuál de estas dos frases describe tu vida: sentarte al lado del camino o seguir a Jesús por el camino? ¿Cuál de estos dos estilos de vida crees que es más satisfactorio? ¿Cuál crees que ofrece más alegría, más significado y más satisfacción? ¿Cuál quieres que represente tu vida?

Solo hay una manera de seguir a Jesús en el camino: dar el siguiente paso.

La fe es más que creer. La fe es más que pensar, hablar o tener convicciones acerca de Jesús. La fe es acción. Es movimiento; es actividad. La fe es algo que haces. De hecho, la Biblia dice en Santiago 2:14: “Hermanos míos, ¿de qué puede servir que alguien diga que tiene fe si no hace el bien? ¿Lo podrá salvar esa clase de fe?” (PDT).

¿De dónde obtienes la fe para comenzar de nuevo? Solo hay una fuente: Jesucristo.

“Dios los ha unido a ustedes con Cristo Jesús. Dios hizo que él fuera la sabiduría misma para nuestro beneficio. Cristo nos hizo justos ante Dios; nos hizo puros y santos y nos liberó del pecado” 1 Corintios 1:30 (NTV).

Bartimeo no tenía idea de que Jesucristo iba a pasar por su camino ese día. Para él, era solo un día más. Pero Dios le dio una oportunidad inesperada que le ofreció un nuevo comienzo.

Dios te está dando la misma oportunidad. No te demores. Da el siguiente paso de fe antes de que la oportunidad pase de largo.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Estás sentado al lado del camino o estás siguiendo a Jesús en el camino hoy?¿Qué estás esperando para dar el siguiente paso de fe en tu vida? ¿Qué excusa has estado usando para posponer las cosas?¿Qué “próximo paso” darás hoy para avanzar en la fe y seguir a Jesús?

 

¿Qué harás cuando Jesús regrese?

La Biblia dice que solo puedes llegar al cielo confiando en el Hijo de Dios, Jesucristo. No puedes ganarte la entrada al cielo: “Porque por gracia ustedes han sido salvados mediante la fe. Esto no procede de ustedes, sino que es el regalo de Dios y no por obras, para que nadie se jacte” Efesios 2:8-9 (NVI).

Si estás listo para entregar tu vida a Jesús, comienza por hacer esta oración:

“Querido Dios, has prometido que, si creo en tu Hijo, Jesucristo, todo lo malo que haya hecho será perdonado, aprenderé el propósito de mi vida y me aceptarás en tu hogar eterno en el cielo un día.

Confieso que he pecado y te pido perdón. Creo que Jesús murió para quitar mis pecados y que tú lo resucitaste. Quiero confiar en Jesús como mi Salvador y seguirlo como Señor desde este día en adelante. Guía mi vida y ayúdame a hacer tu voluntad. En el nombre de Jesús, te lo pido. Amén”.

Focus on Pleasing God, Not People

“Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts.”

1 Thessalonians 2:4 (NLT)

God made you to be you. He didn’t make you to be what your parents want you to be. He didn’t make you to be what your spouse, boss, or friends want you to be.

God wants you to be exactly who he created you to be. That means you have to refuse to be defined by others.

Hebrews 11:24 says, “By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter” (NIV).

Moses had an identity crisis. He was born a Hebrew slave but raised as Egyptian royalty, the grandson of Pharaoh. When he grew up, he had two choices: He could pretend to be Pharaoh’s grandson for the rest of his life and live with luxury, fame, and power.

Or he could admit who he really was, the son of a Hebrew slave. If he did, his family would kick him out to live with Hebrew slaves the rest of his life. He would be disgraced and humiliated and live a life of pain and drudgery.

Which would you choose?

Most people today are living lies. They’re trying to be people they’re not. But Moses—because he was a man of integrity—refused to live a lie. Against all kinds of peer pressure, he insisted on being who God made him to be.

Here’s my question: Who are you letting determine your identity?

Maybe you have parents who died years ago, but you’re still trying to live up to their expectations. Maybe you’re hanging on to what your ex-husband or ex-wife said to you, and you’re trying to prove that person wrong. Maybe you’re trying to keep up with what the culture says you should be.

But the Bible says this: “Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts” (1 Thessalonians 2:4 NLT).

Choose to be who God made you to be. Simply say, “I resolve to no longer let other people press me into their mold. I’m going to do what God wants me to do and fulfill the plan he has for my life—not somebody else’s plan for my life.”

God wants you to be exactly who he created you to be and nothing more. Friend, that is real success in life.

Deja que la Fe, no el Temor, Gobierne tu Corazón

“Muchos lo reprendían para que se callara, pero él se puso a gritar aún más fuerte: —¡Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!”. Marcos 10:48 (NVI)

Si vas a comenzar de nuevo con fe en tu vida, necesitas enfrentar tus temores. ¡No dejes que te controlen! El temor tiene una capacidad increíble para paralizar nuestro potencial, para evitar que nos lancemos y tengamos fe en nuestras vidas.

Cuando elegimos el temor en lugar de la fe, nos vuelve escépticos, tenemos temor de intentar algo nuevo. Nos vuelve egoístas, tenemos temor de comprometernos con Dios y con los demás. Nos vuelve miopes, nos enfocamos en el pasado y no en el futuro.

Un hombre llamado Bartimeo enfrentó un temor que a muchos de nosotros nos resulta familiar: el temor al rechazo. Era ciego y quería ser sanado. Él sabía que gritarle a Jesús por encima de la multitud no era lo correcto. Sabía que la gente lo menospreciaría por eso, pero estaba desesperado. Y sabía que Jesucristo era el único que podía ayudarlo.

Así que llamó la atención de Jesús. La Biblia dice: “Muchos lo reprendían para que se callara, pero él se puso a gritar aún más fuerte: —¡Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!” Marcos 10:48 (NVI).

Y mira lo que pasó: cuando gritó a Jesús, todos a su alrededor le dijeron: “No hagas eso. Cállate. No hagas un escándalo. Seguramente Jesucristo no está interesado en ti. Él tiene cosas más importantes que hacer”.

El diablo nos susurra cosas así a muchos de nosotros. Cuando una oportunidad para tener fe llega a nuestro corazón, pensamientos como: “Dios seguramente no estaría interesado en mí” o “No hagas un escándalo” o “¿Qué pensarían las personas de mí?” nos impiden tener fe. Cuando ves una oportunidad de cambiar, hay todo tipo de gritos dentro y fuera de ti que te dicen que no lo hagas.

Pero Dios te está pidiendo que hagas algo más grande de lo que has hecho antes: te está pidiendo que dependas de Él por completo. ¿No crees que eso te dará un poco de temor? Por supuesto que sí.

Cuando Dios te pide algo, tienes una opción. ¿Vas a dejarte llevar por tu temor y quedarte cómo estás? ¿O vas a dominar tu temor y avanzar con fe?

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿De quién temes más la desaprobación?¿Por qué crees que a veces parece más fácil elegir el temor en lugar de la fe?Proverbios 29:25 dice: “Temer a los hombres resulta una trampa, pero el que confía en el Señor sale bien librado” (NVI). Pídele a Dios que te ayude a confiar en Él para protegerte de lo que piensen otras personas.Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Step Six in Crisis: Humbly Confess Your Sin to God

“We have sinned and done wrong. We have rebelled against you and scorned your commands and regulations. We have refused to listen to your servants the prophets, who spoke on your authority to our kings and princes and ancestors and to all the people of the land.”

Daniel 9:5-6 (NLT)

In the last few devotionals, we’ve looked at how to pray during a crisis. Daniel shows us six key principles during his prayer in Daniel 9. The first five of these principles are:

Let God speak to us before we speak to him.Focus our attention on God and seek him.Express our desires with passion.Demonstrate our seriousness through fasting.Thank God for his love and promises.

Finally, we need to humbly confess our sin.

God won’t listen to prideful complaining, but he will listen to humble confession. God responds to humility. He already knows every foolish thing you’ve ever done in your life, but he still wants you to confess your sin.

How does God respond when you humbly admit you blew it? He responds with forgiveness, mercy, and grace.

Confessing simply means agreeing with God about your sin. You tell God he is right—what you did was sin. You don’t make excuses. You don’t call it a mistake. You admit that you were wrong.

Get specific with your confession like Daniel did in Daniel 9:5-6:“We have sinned and done wrong. We have rebelled against you and scorned your commands and regulations. We have refused to listen to your servants the prophets, who spoke on your authority to our kings and princes and ancestors and to all the people of the land” (NLT).

Daniel didn’t end there, either. His confession went on for another 10 verses as he painstakingly described his sin.

He agreed with God that the Israelites had brought disgrace and shame on themselves, been unfaithful to God, paid no attention to what the Lord had told them, and been oblivious to God’s warnings.

That’s pretty specific.

Daniel’s prayer helps us understand how our unconfessed sin creates distance between God and us—and it’s a powerful reminder of how God answers our prayers as we agree with him about our sin. He is always faithful to forgive us when we come to him with a humble heart.

Talk It Over

Why do we often struggle to be honest with God about our sin, even when he already knows everything we’ve ever done?
How have you seen others undermine their faith by refusing to admit their sin? Has this happened in your own life?
If you haven’t already done this today, take time now to talk to God and confess your sins to him.

No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been . . .

. . . you’ve got a place in God’s forever family ready and waiting for you. The invitation is wide open. Just believe and receive.

Trust in God’s character and the grace he extends. Confess your sins and ask God to forgive you. Claim the promise of Jesus, that salvation is free and open to anyone who turns from their sins and agrees to follow him as their Lord and Savior. Humbly ask God to accept you into his forever family.

Are you ready? Then start your journey by praying this simple prayer: “Dear God, I know when I die, I’m going to give an account of my life to you. I know I have sinned against you, and I have lived by my plan, not yours. I want that to change, starting right now. I want to turn away from my sins and toward you.

“Thank you for sending Jesus to die for all that I’ve done wrong so that I don’t have to pay the penalty. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I know only your grace can save me, Lord. I could never be good enough to get into a perfect place.

“Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I humbly ask you to save me. I believe in you, Jesus. And I believe you will keep your promise to save me instantly, certainly, completely, and eternally. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

No Pospongas tu Nuevo Comienzo

“Jesús le dijo: —El que pone la mano en el arado y luego mira atrás no es apto para el reino de Dios”. Lucas 9:62 (NTV)

En Marcos 10, una gran multitud seguía a Jesús cuando salía de Jericó. Un hombre llamado Bartimeo era ciego y mendigaba al costado del camino. Cuando Bartimeo escuchó que Jesús estaba cerca, comenzó a gritar: “—¡Jesús, Hijo de David, ten compasión de mí!” Marcos 10:47 (NVI).

Cuando Bartimeo se levantó esa mañana, no tenía idea de que Jesucristo iba a pasar junto a él ese día. Pensó que era solo otro día común y corriente: el mismo lugar, el mismo grito de ayuda, la misma situación.

Pero de repente Jesús estaba allí. Bartimeo no tuvo tiempo para prepararse o pensar en su respuesta. Fue solo una oportunidad que cayó en su regazo. Y eligió aprovechar el momento. Decidió no demorarse ni posponerlo. Él lo iba a hacer, ahora.

Esa es también la primera clave para un nuevo comienzo en tu vida: lo que sea que vayas a hacer, hazlo ahora. No digas: “El año que viene voy a empezar de nuevo” o “El mes que viene voy a hacer algunos cambios” o “Mañana voy a hacer de eso una prioridad”. Es ahora o nunca. ¡Aprovecha el momento!

Todos los días, se nos dan oportunidades para un nuevo comienzo, pero no las aprovechamos. ¿Por qué? Porque postergamos.

La postergación es un fenómeno extraño. Crees que te hará la vida más fácil cuando en realidad hace todo lo contrario. ¡Es un generador de estrés!

Cuando sabes lo que es correcto hacer, hoy es el momento de hacerlo. No supongas que puedes esperar a mañana.

La Biblia advierte una y otra vez sobre presumir sobre el mañana. No tengo garantizado un mañana, y tú tampoco. Jesús dijo: “El que pone la mano en el arado y luego mira atrás no es apto para el reino de Dios” Lucas 9:62 (NTV).

No tienes garantía de que vivirás mañana. Cualquier cosa que vayas a hacer, es mejor que la hagas ahora.

¿Jesús te invita a un nuevo comienzo hoy? No te demores. Sigue el ejemplo de Bartimeo y aprovecha el momento.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿En qué parte de tu vida, o en qué situación, necesitas dejar de posponer las cosas y aprovechar el momento?Si supieras que el mañana no llegaría, ¿qué querrías lograr hoy?¿En qué área te invita Jesús a comenzar de nuevo hoy?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Step Five in Crisis: Thank God for His Love and Promises

“O Lord, you are a great and awesome God! You always fulfill your covenant and keep your promises of unfailing love to those who love you and obey your commands.”

Daniel 9:4 (NLT)

There is nothing more important you can do during a crisis than pray. As we’ve been learning, Daniel 9 gives us a great pattern for prayer as we walk through life’s toughest times.

We’ve already learned to let God speak to us before we speak to him, focus our attention on God and seek him, express our desires with passion, and demonstrate our seriousness through fasting.

We must also thank God for his love and promises.

Daniel describes this in Daniel 9:4: “O Lord, you are a great and awesome God! You always fulfill your covenant and keep your promises of unfailing love to those who love you and obey your commands” (NLT).

This may be the last thing you want to do during a crisis. You may be angry with God and frustrated with him. But that’s why you need to do this. You need a change in your perspective.

You can thank God for the love and care he has shown you throughout your life. Be specific! Show him that you recognize that you’ve made it this far because of his grace. You can thank him for his faithfulness and how he has delivered you in the past. Remembering past grace always helps us anticipate future grace. 

You should also look to the Bible for reminders about who God is and what he has promised you. The Bible is full of promises—thousands of them, in fact—that show us how much God has in store for us when we obey and follow him.

A few verses later, we read this: “The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him” (Daniel 9:9 NLT).

We should be grateful that God is faithful even when we’re not. God keeps his promises every time.

And God will continue keeping them during your crisis. He won’t abandon you. Show God you realize he always keeps his promises. Let him know you trust him.

That’s an important part of any prayer during a crisis.
