Un Poco de Fe es Todo lo que Necesitas

“—Por la poca fe que tienen —respondió—. Les aseguro que si tuvieran fe tan pequeña como una semilla de mostaza, podrían decirle a esta montaña: “Trasládate de aquí para allá” y se trasladaría. Para ustedes nada sería imposible”. Mateo 17:20 (NVI)

Aquí hay una verdad sorprendente: se puede tener fe y dudar al mismo tiempo.

En Marcos 9, un hombre llevó a su hijo enfermo a Jesús. Jesús le dijo que podía sanar al niño, si el padre creía. “Al instante el padre clamó: —¡Sí, creo, pero ayúdame a superar mi incredulidad!” Marcos 9:24 (NTV).

Se puede tener fe en Dios y, al mismo tiempo, estar nervioso, o incluso aterrorizado, por algo que Él quiere que hagas. El coraje no es la ausencia de temor. El coraje es cuando sigues adelante y haces algo a pesar de tu temor. Este hombre estaba lleno de fe y duda. Fue a Jesús con sus dudas sinceras, y Jesús hizo un milagro.

No necesitas mucha fe para ser un gran cristiano, porque no es el tamaño de tu fe lo que hace la diferencia. Lo que importa es dónde pones tu fe. Solo necesitas un poco de fe en un Dios grande.

Una vez alguien me preguntó: “Quiero bautizarme y unirme a la iglesia, pero ¿no crees que debería tener todas mis preguntas y dudas resueltas antes de bautizarme?” Por supuesto que no. He sido cristiano durante casi 60 años y todavía hay muchas cosas sobre las que tengo preguntas. No tienes que resolver todo de antemano. Comienza con la fe que tienes.

No importa cuán débil o frágil creas que es tu fe, es suficiente para ayudarte a superarla. ¿Por qué? Porque Dios es capaz de lograr mucho más en tu vida de lo que jamás podrías imaginar. ¡De todos modos, no depende de ti! Dios quiere que tengas fe. Pero también quiere que confíes en Él.

Cada pequeño paso que das hacia Cristo te aleja de la duda, el desánimo y la desesperación. Da un paso adelante en la fe hoy.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Qué petición en oración has estado posponiendo porque pensabas que no tenías suficiente fe?¿Hay algo en lo que deposites más fe que en Dios?¿Qué paso puedes dar hoy para mostrarle a Dios que confías en Él, sin importar cuán difícil pueda ser una situación?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Step Four in Crisis: Show God You’re Serious

“As I prayed, I fasted and wore rough sackcloth, and I sprinkled myself with ashes.”

Daniel 9:3 (TLB)

Daniel’s prayer in Daniel 9 provides us with a great model for how to pray during a crisis. In the last few devotionals, we’ve learned from this passage to let God speak to us before we speak to him. Then, we focus our attention on God and seek him. And, we express our desires with emotions.

Next, the kind of prayer God answers during a crisis is one where we demonstrate our seriousness. You need to signal to God that you are determined about your need. It isn’t just a whim or a casual thought. You need to let God see how important it is to you.

Daniel described three different ways he signaled his seriousness to God: “To show my sadness, I fasted, put on rough cloth, and sat in ashes” (Daniel 9:3 NCV).

We’re going to focus on the first thing he did: He fasted from food. Fasting is a spiritual discipline that people have employed for centuries. 

Jesus said some miracles could only happen through prayer and fasting, not by prayer alone. Why? Fasting tells God you’re serious about your prayer.

Moses fasted before he received the Ten Commandments. The Israelites fasted before they went into many of their major battles. Daniel fasted in order to receive guidance from God. Nehemiah fasted before he began a major building project. Jesus fasted in victory over temptation.

Today, there are some negative connotations to fasting because we don’t like giving up something we love. But that shows that we don’t understand the power behind fasting—not because of what we do but because of how God responds to the humility and earnestness we show when we fast over something.

Fasting doesn’t have to be related to food. It’s about removing other things from your life so you can focus on prayer. For instance, you could give up watching TV or using social media for a specific time and use that time to pray.

La Duda es Enemiga de la Imaginación

“Si necesitan sabiduría, pídansela a nuestro generoso Dios, y él se la dará; no los reprenderá por pedirla. Cuando se la pidan, asegúrense de que su fe sea solamente en Dios, y no duden, porque una persona que duda tiene la lealtad dividida y es tan inestable como una ola del mar que el viento arrastra y empuja de un lado a otro. Esas personas no deberían esperar nada del Señor”. Santiago 1:5-7 (NTV)

La duda es enemiga de la imaginación.

Cuando eras niño, tenías una gran imaginación. Pero cuanto más mayor te haces, más se oxida tu imaginación. Dejas de imaginar cómo podrían ser las cosas y simplemente comienzas a vivir como son. Te quedas estancado en el estatus quo.

La duda y el temor neutralizan lo que Dios quiere hacer en tu vida. Se necesita valor para imaginar. ¿Sabes por qué la mayoría de las personas no imaginan? Porque tienen temor al fracaso.

El valor es hacer lo que más temes. Si no tienes temor, no necesitas valentía. La valentía es cuando estás lleno de temor y dices: “Lo voy a hacer de todos modos”.

Cada gran cosa que hemos hecho en la Iglesia Saddleback, me daba mucho temor hacerla. Pero simplemente dije: “Lo vamos a hacer de todos modos”. ¿Por qué? Porque no voy a dejar que el temor domine mi vida. Así que sigo adelante a pesar de mi temblor.

La valentía es cuando haces lo correcto mientras tienes temor. Puede que te preguntes: “¿Debo esperar hasta que todas mis dudas desaparezcan?” Pero necesitas ir en contra de tus temores. Necesitas ignorar toda la inseguridad que estás sintiendo y simplemente seguir adelante.

Santiago 1:5-7 dice: “Si necesitan sabiduría, pídansela a nuestro generoso Dios, y él se la dará; no los reprenderá por pedirla. Tu imaginación estará gobernada por el temor o por la fe. Esa es tu elección. Si dejas que el temor gobierne tu imaginación, terminarás asustado, estresado y preocupado todo el tiempo. Cuando permites que el temor controle tu imaginación, vives una vida miserable.

En cambio, decide que no vas a permitir que el temor te domine. Deja que tu fe domine. Confía en Dios. Entonces podrás avanzar con fe y permitir que tu imaginación se llene de todo tipo de posibilidades, porque todas las cosas son posibles con Dios.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Qué es eso grandioso que crees que Dios quiere hacer en tu vida, pero has dejado que la duda te detenga?¿Tendrías temor de abrir verdaderamente tu mente y tu vida a todas las posibilidades de Dios? ¿Por qué o por qué no?Cuando le pides algo a Dios en oración, ¿por qué Dios quiere que creas con fe que Él te responderá?

¿Qué harás cuando Jesús regrese?

La Biblia dice que solo puedes llegar al cielo confiando en el Hijo de Dios, Jesucristo. No puedes ganarte la entrada al cielo: “Porque por gracia ustedes han sido salvados mediante la fe. Esto no procede de ustedes, sino que es el regalo de Dios y no por obras, para que nadie se jacte” Efesios 2:8-9 (NVI).

Si estás listo para entregar tu vida a Jesús, comienza por hacer esta oración:

“Querido Dios, has prometido que, si creo en tu Hijo, Jesucristo, todo lo malo que haya hecho será perdonado, aprenderé el propósito de mi vida y me aceptarás en tu hogar eterno en el cielo un día.

Confieso que he pecado y te pido perdón. Creo que Jesús murió para quitar mis pecados y que tú lo resucitaste. Quiero confiar en Jesús como mi Salvador y seguirlo como Señor desde este día en adelante. Guía mi vida y ayúdame a hacer tu voluntad. En el nombre de Jesús, te lo pido. Amén”.

Step Three in Crisis: Pour Your Heart Out to God

“I poured out my heart, baring my soul to GOD.”

Daniel 9:3 (MSG)

Over the last few devotionals, we’ve been looking at how Daniel prayed during a time of crisis in his life and the life of Israel. His response shows us how we can pray in a way that God answers.

So far we’ve learned that we must let God speak to us before we speak to him and focus our attention on God and seek him.

Then, we must express our desires with passion.

Too many of our prayers are simply routine. We speak without really thinking about what we’re saying. We have the words memorized. There’s no passion or authenticity.

The truth is, God cares more about the passionate sincerity of your prayers than the words you use. Think about how the right words with the wrong emotions won’t work with your spouse or with a close friend. That won’t work with God either.

Human beings are made in the image of God, and God shows emotions. He gets angry. He gets sad. He gets happy.

God doesn’t just love you. God loves you passionately—emotionally.

This is how Daniel described his passionate prayer in Daniel 9:3: “I prayed earnestly to the Lord God, pleading with him” (GNT).

The word “pleading” in Hebrew means to ask with emotions. It’s a serious seeking. It’s searching with all your heart. It’s begging.

That’s a prayer God will listen to and answer.

I like this paraphrase of Daniel 9:3: “I poured out my heart, baring my soul to GOD” (MSG).

Perhaps you need to pray like that for your family. You need to pour your heart out and bare your soul to God on their behalf. Maybe you need to do that about your relationship or your finances.

All of us need to do that about the world around us. Everyone seems to be in crisis mode. Our concern with the economy and the devastation of war, famine, and evil in our world have taken its toll.

We need to pour our hearts out to God about it.

Dios Siempre Llega a Tiempo

“Esta visión es para un tiempo futuro. Describe el fin, y este se cumplirá. Aunque parezca que se demora en llegar, espera con paciencia, porque sin lugar a dudas sucederá. No se tardará”. Habacuc 2:3 (NTV)

Dios nunca tiene prisa y nunca llega tarde.

Siempre llega a tiempo.

El tiempo de Dios es perfecto, incluso cuando no lo podemos entender. Nunca entenderemos completamente el tiempo de Dios porque Dios existe en una longitud de onda diferente. Debido a que es atemporal, tiene una visión diferente del tiempo.

La Biblia habla sobre la comprensión que Dios tiene del tiempo en 2 Pedro 3:8. Dice: “Pero no olviden, queridos hermanos, que para el Señor un día es como mil años y mil años, como un día” (NVI).

¿Es así como tratas al tiempo? A veces, cuando espero por una comida, puede parecer que han pasado mil años, pero los humanos no pensamos en esos términos.

La atemporalidad de Dios tiene grandes implicaciones para tu vida. Cuando Dios te creó, puso un sueño en tu corazón. La mayoría de las personas comienzan con una gran visión y meta. Tienen algún tipo de sueño, plan o proyecto para su vida.

¿Qué visión te ha dado Dios? Con los años he descubierto que, si bien todos tienden a comenzar temprano en la vida con una visión, a medida que pasa el tiempo, cada vez más personas abandonan su sueño antes de que se cumpla. La razón suele ser que no sucede lo suficientemente rápido.

Tal vez tu sueño haya sido destrozado. Tal vez tu sueño se haya roto. O tal vez, por desánimo y decepción, hayas enterrado tu sueño. Has renunciado a él.

Dios no quiere que hagas eso. Si Dios te dio un sueño para tu vida, se hará realidad. Solo tiene que suceder en su tiempo, no en el tuyo.

Dios dice esto acerca de tu sueño: “Esta visión es para un tiempo futuro. Describe el fin, y este se cumplirá. Aunque parezca que se demora en llegar, espera con paciencia, porque sin lugar a dudas sucederá. No se tardará” Habacuc 2:3 (NTV).

Cuando comencé la Iglesia Saddleback a los 25 años, tenía prisa por hacer todo rápido. Pero Dios me dijo lo mismo que te dirá a ti con tu sueño: “No, no todo va a suceder ahora mismo. Pero lenta y constantemente, la visión se cumplirá”.

Quiero que recuerdes esta poderosa verdad: Dios nunca llega ni temprano ni tarde a tu vida; Él siempre llega justo a tiempo.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Por qué Dios querría que tu sueño se cumpliera en su tiempo, no en el tuyo?¿Has renunciado a un sueño porque se retrasó? ¿Crees que el sueño es de Dios?¿Por qué es tan difícil mantener la disciplina cuando se trata de tus sueños y metas?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Step Two in Crisis: Focus and Seek God

“I love those who love me, and those who seek me will find me.”

Proverbs 8:17 (ISV)

Daniel gives us a great blueprint for prayer during difficult times.

We can find six important principles for this in Daniel 9. In the last devotional, we looked at the first of those principles: We let God speak to us before we speak to him.

The second step to praying in a way God will answer during a time of crisis is to focus our attention on God and seek him.

Daniel did this in Daniel 9:3: “I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him” (ESV).

This is basic relationship advice that works beyond your relationship with God. You’ll improve any relationship in your life if you physically turn yourself toward the other person and focus on them when they talk to you. I’ve been married for more than 40 years. Whenever my wife talks with me, I turn my face toward her. She loves it, because she knows she has my undivided attention.

Turning your face toward someone shows attention. You can do this with God too. Physically, look up toward the sky. If you can, go outside and look into the heavens as you pray. You can make your whole body posture a sign to God that you are focused and ready to hear from him when you position yourself in humility.

Physically turning toward God is the first step in focusing on him and seeking him, which is vitally important during a crisis—and every other moment of our lives.

In Amos 5:4, God said, “Seek me and live” (NIV). You’re not really living unless you’re seeking God. 

God guarantees you success when you seek him. He says, “I love those who love me, and those who seek me will find me” (Proverbs 8:17 ISV).

Do you want to hear from God and have his help during a crisis? Then you need to pay attention to how you give your attention to God. Turn your face to him, and seek him with all your heart. That’s when you’ll know what it means to truly live.

Cómo usa Dios los Tiempos Difíciles

“Es por esto que nunca nos damos por vencidos. Aunque nuestro cuerpo está muriéndose, nuestro espíritu va renovándose cada día. Pues nuestras dificultades actuales son pequeñas y no durarán mucho tiempo. Sin embargo, ¡nos producen una gloria que durará para siempre y que es de mucho más peso que las dificultades!”. 2 Corintios 4:16-17 (NTV)

Nunca eres un fracasado hasta que te rindes, y siempre es demasiado pronto para rendirse. Dios usa los tiempos difíciles para poner a prueba tu persistencia.

La diferencia entre las personas fieles y las infieles es que las infieles se rinden a la primera señal de dificultad. Las personas fieles siguen adelante.

Las personas fieles están decididas. Las personas fieles son diligentes. Las personas fieles son persistentes. Las personas fieles no saben rendirse. ¿Sabes cómo una pequeña bellota se convierte en un roble? Un roble es solo una bellota que se negó a rendirse.

Cuando comenzamos la Iglesia Saddleback, pensé que rápidamente entraríamos en un edificio. Pero pasamos 15 años sin uno. En los primeros 13 años de la iglesia, usamos 79 instalaciones diferentes. ¿Sabes cuántas veces sentí ganas de rendirme? ¡Solo cada lunes por la mañana!

Saddleback creció hasta tener más de 10,000 personas antes de que construyéramos nuestro primer edificio. ¿Te gustaría montar y desmontar una iglesia para 10,000 personas cada semana? No hay mucha gloria en eso. Es solo trabajo duro. Dios usa los tiempos difíciles para probar nuestra persistencia.

Si estás pasando por tiempos difíciles ahora mismo, entonces este versículo es para ti: “Es por esto que nunca nos damos por vencidos. Aunque nuestro cuerpo está muriéndose, nuestro espíritu va renovándose cada día. Pues nuestras dificultades actuales son pequeñas y no durarán mucho tiempo. A Dios le interesa más en lo que te estás convirtiendo que en lo que te está sucediendo. Él permite a menudo pruebas, tribulaciones y problemas en tu vida para enseñarte diligencia, determinación y carácter. ¿Qué pasa con los problemas que estás atravesando ahora mismo? Son una prueba de tu fidelidad. ¿Continuarás sirviendo a Dios incluso cuando la vida sea un caos?

“No nos cansemos de hacer el bien, porque a su debido tiempo cosecharemos si no nos damos por vencidos” Gálatas 6:9 (NVI).

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿En qué situación estás dispuesto a rendirte?¿Cómo puedes renovar tu espíritu para que tengas la fuerza para perseverar en esa situación?¿Qué estás aprendiendo de Dios y sobre ti mismo en medio de tu prueba? ¿Cómo está haciendo crecer tu carácter?

Step One in Crisis: Listen and Let God Speak

“It was the first year of the reign of Darius the Mede, the son of Ahasuerus, who became king of the Babylonians. During the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, learned from reading the word of the LORD, as revealed to Jeremiah the prophet, that Jerusalem must lie desolate for seventy years.”

Daniel 9:1-2 (NLT)

Prayer is the key to enduring any crisis.

We can see this with Daniel and his prayer life. When the time grew closer for the Israelites to return to their homeland, Daniel knew his people were not ready. The Israelites still did not have a right relationship with God. This grieved Daniel, so he prayed.

His prayer in Daniel 9 reveals six principles for praying in a way that God answers during a crisis. We’ll look at each of these six steps over the next few days.

First, you let God speak to you before you speak to him.

You need to hear the voice of God. He will always make the first move in your life. He never expects you to do something he doesn’t do first. The Bible says we love God because he first loved us. We serve him because he first served us.

God initiates. Then, we respond.

Remember, God always makes the first move. We talk to God because he first talked with us through his Word.

So how do you listen to God? You read the Bible.

Daniel did this: “It was the first year of the reign of Darius the Mede, the son of Ahasuerus, who became king of the Babylonians. During the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, learned from reading the word of the LORD, as revealed to Jeremiah the prophet, that Jerusalem must lie desolate for seventy years” (Daniel 9:1-2 NLT).

Daniel, a hero of the Bible, who had incredible faith and trusted God with his life, still knew he had more to learn from God’s Word. He knew that God still wanted to speak with him and give him the wisdom he needed.

So Daniel studied Scripture and listened for God to speak. He didn’t come to Bible study ready to tell God what he needed. He came ready for a conversation with God—and he let God speak first.

You will never pray effectively until you study the Word and listen to God. The more you know the Bible, the more effective your prayers will be.

Pídele a Dios Ayuda con tus Finanzas

“ Por eso, de sus riquezas maravillosas mi Dios les dará, por medio de Jesucristo, todo lo que les haga falta ”. Filipenses 4:19 (NVI)

Filipenses 4:19 es una promesa asombrosa y que abarca todo lo que Dios provee: “Por eso, de sus riquezas maravillosas mi Dios les dará, por medio de Jesucristo, todo lo que les haga falta” (NVI).

Observa estas dos palabras: “les dará”. No dice que “Dios podría darles” todo lo que les haga falta. Dice que “les dará, por medio de Jesucristo, todo lo que les haga falta”. Está escrito como un hecho. Dios está apostando su carácter y su reputación en ello.

El versículo NO dice que “Dios les dará algunas de las cosas que les haga falta”. Dice que les dará “todo lo que les haga falta”.

Ahora bien, NO dice que: “Dios suplirá todas tus codicias”. Hay una gran diferencia entre necesidades y deseos.

Si eres padre, ¿les das a tus hijos todo lo que quieren? Espero que no. No lo haces porque los amas, y tu Padre celestial te ama. Él no te va a dar todo lo que quieres porque, si lo hiciera, te malcriarías hasta la muerte, y sabe que algunas de las cosas que quieres no serían buenas para ti.

Él no te dará todo lo que quieres, pero te dará todo lo que necesitas.

“¿Entonces por qué sigo teniendo necesidades financieras?”, te estarás preguntando. ¿Falló Dios? ¿Mintió? ¿Exageró?

¡No! Con cada promesa, hay una premisa; hay condiciones y requisitos. Cuando Dios hace una promesa, su expectativa es a menudo: “Yo haré mi parte, y tú harás la tuya”. Los principios financieros de Dios están claramente establecidos para nosotros en su Palabra. La Biblia habla de muchos aspectos de la salud financiera, incluidos los principios de ahorro, gasto, donación, inversión y administración. Dios te ha dado todo lo que necesitas para la estabilidad financiera.

Solo necesitas pedirle ayuda mientras sigues sus principios. Jesús dice: “Pidan en mi nombre y recibirán y tendrán alegría en abundancia” Juan 16:24 (NTV).

Muchas personas dependen más de su tarjeta de crédito que de Jesucristo. Aquí hay una buena regla: antes de pagarla, ora por ella. Dale a Dios la oportunidad de proveer antes de salir y cargarla. Pídele sabiduría para tomar una buena decisión financiera.

¿Por qué quiere Dios que pidas? Para poder dar. ¿Por qué quiere dar? Para que puedas recibir.

¿Por qué quiere que recibas? Para que estés lleno de alegría.

Hay una gran alegría en obedecer la Palabra de Dios con respecto a tus finanzas. Dios cuidará de ti. ¡Solo pídele!

Your Destiny Is to Become like Jesus

“Your hearts and minds must be made completely new, and you must put on the new self, which is created in God's likeness and reveals itself in the true life that is upright and holy.”

Ephesians 4:23-24 (GNT)

From the beginning, God’s plan has been to make you like his Son, Jesus. This is your destiny. God announced his intention at Creation: “Then God said, ‘Let us make human beings in our image and likeness’” (Genesis 1:26 NCV).

In all of creation, only human beings are made in God’s image. But the image is incomplete and has been damaged and distorted by sin. So God sent Jesus on a mission to restore the full image that we have lost.

What does the full “image and likeness” of God look like? It looks like Jesus Christ! The Bible says Jesus is “the exact likeness of God.”       

People often use the phrase “like father, like son” to refer to family resemblance. When people see my likeness in my kids, it pleases me. God wants his children to bear his image and likeness too. The Bible says, “You were . . . created to be like God, with a life that truly has God’s approval and is holy” (Ephesians 4:24 GW).

Let me be absolutely clear: You will never become God, or even a god. That prideful lie is Satan’s oldest temptation. Satan promised Adam and Eve that if they followed his advice, “ye shall be as gods” (Genesis 3:5 KJV). 

Many religions and New Age philosophies still promote this old lie that we are divine or can become gods. This desire to be a god shows up every time we try to control our circumstances, our future, and the people around us. 

But as creatures, we will never be the Creator. God doesn’t want you to become a god. He wants you to become godly—taking on his values, attitudes, and character.

As you work to fulfill your calling, remember that God’s ultimate goal for your life on earth is not comfort but character development. He wants you to grow up spiritually and become like Christ.

You are meant to “take on an entirely new way of life—a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you” (Ephesians 4:22 MSG).

Talk It Over
