Cómo Llenar tu Vida de Paz

“Les dejo un regalo: paz en la mente y en el corazón. Y la paz que yo doy es un regalo que el mundo no puede dar. Así que no se angustien ni tengan miedo”. Juan 14:27 (NTV)

Cuando le haces lugar a Jesús, Él te da uno de los regalos más grandes: “Les dejo un regalo: paz en la mente y en el corazón. Y la paz que yo doy es un regalo que el mundo no puede dar. Así que no se angustien ni tengan miedo” Juan 14:27 (NTV).

El tipo de paz que da el mundo es temporal. En los últimos 300 años, se han firmado alrededor de 260 tratados de paz, y casi ninguno de ellos se cumplió.

La paz que viene del mundo es totalmente circunstancial. Si tienes un buen trabajo, entonces estás en paz. Pero si pierdes tu trabajo, entonces ya no estás en paz. Si tienes dinero en el banco, entonces estás en paz. Pero cuando ese dinero se acaba, ya no estás en paz.

Jesús te da una paz diferente. La Biblia lo llama “Así experimentarán la paz de Dios, que supera todo lo que podemos entender. La paz de Dios cuidará su corazón y su mente mientras vivan en Cristo Jesús” Filipenses 4:7 (NTV).

¿Qué significa eso? Significa que tienes paz cuando no hay una razón obvia o visible por la que deberías estar en paz. Todo a tu alrededor podría estar en caos, pero por alguna razón inexplicable, estás en paz. Esa es la paz que sobrepasa todo entendimiento—y solo puede venir de Jesús, el Príncipe de la Paz.

Jesús quiere darte ese tipo de paz esta Navidad para que no tengas problemas ni miedo.

Cada vez que Jesús entra en una habitación, la llena de paz. ¿Tienes habitaciones en tu corazón que están llenas de preocupación, malestar, ansiedad o temor? Esas son las habitaciones a las que no has invitado a Jesús. Tus preocupaciones revelan las áreas que no has entregado a Dios. Eso podría incluir tus finanzas, tu vida amorosa, tu carrera, tu paternidad, tu agenda o tu ministerio. Sea lo que sea, tienes que dejarlo ir. Tienes que dárselo a Jesús.

Esta es la única manera en que vas a tener verdadera paz esta Navidad: entrega cada parte de tu vida a Dios para que la use para su propósito. Entonces tendrás una paz que resistirá todas las presiones de la vida.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Están tu hogar y tu corazón llenos de paz? ¿Qué te hace dar la respuesta que diste?¿Qué “habitación” de tu corazón te causa ansiedad o temor?¿Qué crees que Dios quiere que hagas o digas para mostrarte que le has entregado una parte de tu vida que te ha estado preocupando?

La paz que sobrepasa todo entendimiento comienza con Jesús.

Comienza por hacer las paces con tu Creador. Tus pecados te separan de Dios. Y es solo por la gracia de Dios que puedes volver a tener una relación correcta con Él.

La Biblia dice: “Dios los salvó por su gracia cuando creyeron. Ustedes no tienen ningún mérito en eso; es un regalo de Dios. La salvación no es un premio por las cosas buenas que hayamos hecho, así que ninguno de nosotros puede jactarse de ser salvo” Efesios 2:8-9 (NTV).

¿Estás listo para hacer las paces con Dios esta Navidad y encontrar la paz que sobrepasa todo entendimiento? Haz esta oración:

“Querido Jesús, no quiero que mi pecado me separe más de ti. Has prometido que, si creo en ti, todo lo que he hecho mal será perdonado, aprenderé el propósito de mi vida y algún día me aceptarás en tu hogar eterno en el cielo.

Confieso mi pecado, y creo que eres mi Salvador. Has prometido que, si confieso mi pecado y confío en ti, seré salvo. Confío en ti cuando dices que la salvación viene por gracia, por medio de la fe, y no por nada que yo haga. Te recibo en mi vida como mi Señor. Hoy, entrego cada parte de mi vida a tu voluntad.

Quiero vivir de la manera en que me creaste para vivir y usar el resto de mi vida para servirte en lugar de servirme a mí mismo. Te entrego mi vida y te pido que me salves y me aceptes en tu familia. En el nombre de Jesús oro. Amén”.

Your Christmas Gift to Jesus

“I don’t want your sacrifices—I want your love; I don’t want your offerings—I want you to know me.”

Hosea 6:6 (TLB)

Imagine that your friends throw a birthday party for you. Everyone brings a gift, but instead of giving them to you, they give them to each other! As strange as that sounds, it happens every Christmas. We give gifts to everybody except Jesus.

You may be saying to yourself, “God already has everything! What could I possibly give him?” Or you may think you don’t have anything worth giving.

God doesn’t want things from you. In Hosea 6:6, God says, “I don’t want your sacrifices—I want your love; I don’t want your offerings—I want you to know me” (Hosea 6:6 TLB). Here are several things to give Jesus this Christmas that he can’t get from anyone but you.

Give him your trust. God will never force you to trust him. Faith is always voluntary. You have to give him your trust. And then God will work in your life based on your faith in him. Jesus says, “According to your faith let it be done to you” (Matthew 9:29 NIV). The more you trust him, the more he is able to do through you.

Give him your heart. The Message paraphrase says, “Open up before GOD, keep nothing back; he’ll do whatever needs to be done” (Psalm 37:5). God wants every part of your life. He wants you to say, “God, I’m opening up my life to you—the good, the bad, and the ugly.” When you do that, God promises to help you mature into who he created you to be.

Giving God your heart also means giving him what you love, value, and treasure. In fact, Jesus says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Luke 12:34 NIV). God isn’t just talking about your money. He doesn’t need your money. He wants what it represents—anything that is more important to you than him.

Bring others to him. God wants everyone in his forever family. It’s the reason he sent Jesus: “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 NKJV). God wants you to tell others about Jesus. The Bible says: “Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full” (Luke 14:23 NLT). This Christmas, be a star and a light that guides other people to Jesus.

Jesus wants these gifts, and he can’t get them from anyone but you. But he won’t force you. Despite the rush and activities of the season, stop today to consider what gifts you will bring to Jesus this Christmas.

Talk It Over

What gifts will you bring to Jesus this Christmas?
In what area of your life can you trust Jesus more? What step can you take to show that you trust him? (Maybe that means waiting patiently for him to answer your prayers, obeying an instruction he’s given you, or surrendering control of a stressful situation.)
Think of at least one person you can invite to a Christmas service this year. Make a plan to invite them!

Will you receive God’s greatest gift this Christmas?

God’s great generosity is reflected in his gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Your sins separate you from God. And it is only God’s grace, through Jesus, that can get you back into right relationship with him.

The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).


If you’re ready to accept this gift from God, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. You have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to you.

“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Abre Todo tu Corazón a Jesús

“¡Mira! Yo estoy a la puerta y llamo. Si oyes mi voz y abres la puerta, yo entraré y cenaremos juntos como amigos”. Apocalipsis 3:20 (NTV)

¿Has pensado alguna vez en lo que debió haber pensado el posadero aquella primera Navidad cuando se dio cuenta de que no le dejaba un sitio al Hijo de Dios? Así es como creo que podría haber sido escrito su testimonio:

“Fue la temporada más ocupada que había visto como posadero, una bonanza comercial única en la vida para mí, cortesía de Cesar Augusto y su censo. El alojamiento para pasar la noche tenía una gran demanda. Mi posada estuvo completamente reservada durante un mes, y ese ingreso me equipó para toda la vida.

Pero luego apareció esa pareja. ¿Cómo iba a saber quiénes eran? No se veían diferentes a una docena de otras familias que ya había rechazado. Así que solo dije: ‘Lo siento, estamos completamente reservados. No tenemos vacantes disponibles. No hay sitio para ustedes.

Pensé que al menos les haría un favor y les permitiría dormir con los animales en el establo detrás de la posada. Obviamente, no sabía quiénes eran. Pero durante toda la historia y el resto de la eternidad, seré conocido como el hombre que dijo: ‘Lo siento, no hay lugar para ustedes’. Soy el que puso al Salvador del mundo afuera con los animales. Ese es mi legado: no le hice lugar a Jesús.

No me di cuenta de que era Jesús porque estaba demasiado ocupado para darme cuenta de lo que Dios estaba haciendo justo frente a mí. Era un momento inconveniente para que Jesús apareciera, así que simplemente lo aparté a un rincón. Pero ahora que lo pienso, parece que siempre hay alguna distracción, inconveniente o preocupación que usamos como excusa para no hacerle espacio a Jesús.

Si pudiera hacerlo todo de nuevo, le habría dado toda la posada. No escuché el llamado a mi puerta . Pero para ti, todavía hay tiempo de recibirlo. Todavía hay tiempo para examinar tu vida y reflexionar si tus habitaciones están llenas de lo que realmente importa o si solo están llenas de cosas innecesarias. Todavía tienes tiempo para reservar un lugar para el invitado más importante de todos”.

Cuando Jesús llama, puedes darle la bienvenida y el recibimiento que se merece como tu Creador, Salvador y Rey de Reyes. Y Él tocará, porque tu corazón fue diseñado para que Dios viva en él. De hecho, Él está tocando ahora mismo. ¿Puedes oírlo? ¿Estás prestando atención? ¿Vas a abrir la puerta?

Reflexiona sobre esto:

La mayoría de las personas tienen una distracción particular a la que recurren cada vez que necesitan una excusa para no pasar tiempo con Dios y estudiar la Biblia. ¿Cuál es esa distracción en particular para ti?¿Qué significa que Jesús toque a la puerta de tu corazón? ¿Cómo ha sucedido eso en tu vida?¿Cuál es una forma en la que puedes hacer lugar para Jesús hoy? 

Abre tu corazón a Jesús hoy

¿Alguna vez has abierto tu corazón a Jesús y has recibido la salvación que Él ofrece? Si estás listo para hacer eso hoy, ora esta oración:

“Querido Dios, te escucho llamar a la puerta de mi corazón y quiero abrírtela. Confieso que he pecado y que necesito de tu perdón y misericordia. Gracias por amarme tanto que enviaste a Jesús a morir por mis pecados, para que yo pueda ser perdonado.

Jesús, prometiste que todo el que cree en ti no se perderá, sino que tendrá vida eterna y la eternidad contigo en el cielo. Creo en ti y te acepto como mi Señor y Salvador. Quiero permitirte entrar en todas las habitaciones de mi corazón y pasar el resto de mi vida sirviéndote. Amén”.

Give God Your Best

“They came to the house where the child was and saw him with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. They opened their gifts and gave him treasures of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”

Matthew 2:11 (NCV)

When the wise men went in search of the promised Savior, they intended to give him the best they had—their best tangible gifts along with their gratitude, honor, worship, and love. The wise men came to see Jesus for the right reasons.

Many people today come to God when they need something—but they’re not actually there to love or worship him. They think of God as their genie in a bottle, someone they can summon in prayer and expect to give them whatever they want. The problem with that thinking is this: God does not exist for you; you exist for him.

Here’s what happened when the wise men arrived in Bethlehem: “They came to the house where the child was and saw him with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. They opened their gifts and gave him treasures of gold, frankincense, and myrrh” (Matthew 2:11 NCV).

Not only did they worship him, but they also gave Jesus “treasures”—the best they had. They didn’t give him their leftovers or something worthless. Their gifts were costly and meaningful. The gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh had significant symbolism.

Gold was a gift for kings. In ancient times, if you were granted an audience with a king, you brought a tribute of gold. With this gift, the wise men acknowledged Jesus as King.

Frankincense was for worshipping God.  This incense was used by the Jewish leaders in the temple as part of their worship practices. With this gift, the wise men acknowledged Jesus as the one true God who was worthy of their worship.

Myrrh was used for the dead—a most unusual gift for a baby. This spice was used in ancient times to embalm dead bodies. With this gift, the wise men acknowledged Jesus as the Savior who came to die.

Jesus did not come to earth simply to live. He came to earth to die for your sins so you can be forgiven, live a new life, and go to heaven.

As you seek Jesus this Christmas, learn from the wise men who sought Jesus for the right reasons. Worship him as King of kings, Lord of lords and Savior of the world and give him the best you have. He is worthy of your worship.

Talk It Over

Has there ever been a time when you treated God like a genie and expected him to grant your wishes? Confess that to him now. Ask him to help you love him and not try to use him to get what you want.
What is one change you can make today to give Jesus your best instead of your leftovers?

Haz Tiempo para lo que Importa en Navidad

“El Señor le dijo: —Mi apreciada Marta, ¡estás preocupada y tan inquieta con todos los detalles! Hay una sola cosa por la que vale la pena preocuparse. María la ha descubierto, y nadie se la quitará”. Lucas 10:41-42 (NTV)

Esta Navidad, necesitas hacer menos, no más. Al simplificar tu vida, tendrás más placer, más satisfacción y menos estrés.

En una de las épocas más ocupadas del año, debes asegurarte de llenar tu calendario, tu mente y tu corazón con lo importante, no con cosas triviales que ni siquiera importarán en cinco años, y mucho menos en la eternidad.

Las cosas triviales de las que estoy hablando no son cosas malas. Puedes llenar tu vida de cosas buenas que te impiden pasar tiempo con Dios. Puedes estar involucrado en el ministerio todo el tiempo y estar tan ocupado trabajando para Dios que no dejes que Dios trabaje en ti en ningún momento.

Un ejemplo de esto son María y Marta, quienes eran hermanas y también amigas de Jesús. Un día lo invitaron a su casa a comer. María se sentó a los pies de Jesús, escuchando su enseñanza. Marta estaba ocupada preocupándose por la comida y asegurándose de que todo estuviera en su lugar.

¿No suena a Navidad? Pasas meses comprando y envolviendo regalos, decorando la casa, poniendo las luces, arreglando el árbol, enviando las tarjetas, preparando las comidas, planeando fiestas. Luego, cuando llega la Navidad, te das cuenta de que estabas tan ocupado con la preparación que no le diste tiempo a Jesús.

“Pero Marta estaba distraída con los preparativos para la gran cena. Entonces se acercó a Jesús y le dijo: —Maestro, ¿no te parece injusto que mi hermana esté aquí sentada mientras yo hago todo el trabajo? Dile que venga a ayudarme. El Señor le dijo: —Mi apreciada Marta, ¡estás preocupada y tan inquieta con todos los detalles! Hay una sola cosa por la que vale la pena preocuparse. María la ha descubierto, y nadie se la quitará” Lucas 10:40-42 (NTV).

María sabía que había una cosa que valía la pena: conocer al Hijo de Dios.

Nada más importará en la eternidad. Dios no te puso en la Tierra solo para trabajar y luego jubilarte. Él te puso aquí para que puedas conocerlo.

Mi deseo para ti esta Navidad es que te detengas, tomes un respiro y cambies tu enfoque a lo que más importa en esta vida: Jesús.

Wise People Still Seek Truth

“Where is the baby who was born to be king of the Jews?”

Matthew 2:2 (NCV)

Wise people seek the truth. They’re not happy with guesses or speculation when it comes to life, themselves, or God. They’re willing to go to any lengths to find the truth. 

The Bible says that, when the wise men arrived in Jerusalem, they asked, “Where is the baby who was born to be king of the Jews?” (Matthew 2:2 NCV). The wise men sought Jesus. Wise women and men still seek him today.

The wise men were seekers. They studied, watched what was happening around them, and saw the star—and they knew a Savior was going to be born. They made an expensive, months-long trip across the scorching desert because they were serious about seeking God. That’s wise.

Seeking God today is still wise. When it comes to the search for truth, there are two kinds of people—speculators and seekers. Speculators just guess about the truth. They wonder and make assumptions. They love to talk about God. They say, “I think God is like this,” or “I like to think of God as that.”

But what you think about God doesn’t really matter. What matters is the truth. What you think about God may be comfortable for you, but it could be wrong. What you need to know is the actual truth about God, not speculation. 

Genuine seekers, on the other hand, take the time and the trouble to find the truth. Their minds are open to what they might discover about God or the Bible. When they have doubts, they ask questions and are willing to go to any lengths to find answers. God loves seekers because seeking leads to truth.

Think about this. Bethlehem, where Jesus was born, was six miles from Jerusalem. All of the Jewish religious leaders of that day were in Jerusalem, and yet not one of them sought Jesus. The wise men traveled for months to find what was in the Jewish leaders’ backyard!

You can have Jesus right in your midst and miss him if you’re not looking for him. But if you are genuinely serious about knowing the truth, you won’t be able to miss it. Why? Because God won’t let you miss it.

The Bible says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13 NIV). If you’re seeking Jesus, don’t stop your search until you meet him face to face.

Talk It Over

When you have questions in life, do you tend to be a spectator or seeker? Do you work hard to find the truth or just guess at what might be true?
What distractions might keep you from seeking Jesus?
What is one practical thing you can do to seek Jesus this Christmas? Perhaps it’s to read the Bible every day, investigate a hard question you have about life, or discuss Jesus with a wise and trusted friend. Ask God to reveal himself to you as you seek him.

Crea un Diario de Crecimiento Espiritual

“Así que debemos prestar mucha atención a las verdades que hemos oído, no sea que nos desviemos de ellas”. Hebreos 2:1 (NTV)

A medida que creces hacia la madurez espiritual, tendrás que cooperar con Dios en el proceso.

Una forma de hacerlo es creer que Dios está trabajando en tu vida, incluso cuando no lo sientes. El crecimiento espiritual es a veces un trabajo tedioso, un pequeño paso a la vez. Espera una mejora gradual. La Biblia dice: “Todo tiene su momento oportuno; hay un tiempo para todo lo que se hace bajo el cielo” Eclesiastés 3:1 (NVI).

También hay estaciones en tu vida espiritual. A veces tendrás un estallido corto e intenso de crecimiento (primavera) seguido de un período de estabilización y prueba (otoño e invierno).

¿Qué hay de esos problemas, hábitos y heridas que te gustaría eliminar milagrosamente? Está bien orar por un milagro, pero no te desilusiones si la respuesta viene con un cambio gradual. Con el tiempo, un flujo lento y constante de agua puede desgastar incluso la roca más dura, transformando grandes rocas en pequeñas piedras. De la misma forma, una pequeña semilla tiene el potencial de convertirse en un majestuoso árbol de secoya, alcanzando alturas de hasta 350 pies.

Mantén un cuaderno o un diario de las lecciones aprendidas. Esto no es un diario de eventos, sino un registro de lo que estás aprendiendo. Escribe las ideas y las lecciones de la vida que Dios te enseña sobre Él, tú mismo, la vida, las relaciones y todo lo demás. Registra estos para que puedas revisarlos y recordarlos y pasarlos a la próxima generación (ver Salmo 102:18 y 2 Timoteo 3:14).

Will You Be Part of His Story?

“She gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”

Luke 2:7 (NASB)

Consider this: The fact that the innkeeper didn’t make room for Jesus did not stop Jesus from being born. History is his story. When the innkeeper said, “No room,” it didn’t hurt God. But the innkeeper missed what would have been the biggest blessing of his life. He missed the privilege of housing the Son of God.

Luke 2:7 says, “She gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn” (NASB).

You don’t change God’s plans when you don’t make room for him—but you miss out! Jesus wants to give you purpose, peace, and power. But for him to do that, you have to make room for him in your heart.

First, Jesus wants to give you purpose. Do you ever feel something is missing in your life? It’s because you were made for purpose and significance, not just money or success. Success is not enough; it doesn’t satisfy.

The Message paraphrase of 2 Corinthians 6:12-13 says, “The smallness you feel comes from within you. Your lives aren’t small, but you’re living them in a small way . . . Open up your lives. Live openly and expansively!” The antidote to unfulfillment is to make room for Jesus and what really matters! Don’t shut him out. 

Next, Jesus can give you the kind of peace the Bible calls “the peace . . . which surpasses all understanding” (Philippians 4:7 ESV). That means you can have unexplainable peace even when everything around you is in chaos. That kind of peace comes only from Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

Finally, Jesus wants to give you power too—the kind of power that allows you to have self-control. It’s interesting that the more control you give to Christ, the more self-control he gives you.

You’ve probably found that sometimes your best efforts aren’t enough; you don’t have enough willpower to overcome your hurts, habits, and hang-ups. You need the Spirit of Christ who gives you the power to have self-control

Do you want the purpose, peace, and power that only God can provide? You need to make room in your heart for Jesus!

Talk It Over

When have you missed out on a blessing because you didn’t make room for Jesus?
Can you see areas in your life today that God could bless if you just made room for him?
Is there an area of your life today that could use a boost of God’s purpose, peace, or power? Ask him for that right now.

The first step towards having God’s purpose, peace, and power in your life is to trust in Jesus.

God’s great generosity is reflected in his gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. Your sins separate you from God. And it is only God’s grace, through Jesus, that can get you back into right relationship with him.

The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you’re ready to make peace with your Creator, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. You have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to you.

“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Como Eliminar y Reemplazar Tus Viejos Hábitos

“Presta suma atención a estos asuntos. Entrégate de lleno a tus tareas, para que todos vean cuánto has progresado”. 1 Timoteo 4:15 (NTV)

Si bien se te dio una naturaleza completamente nueva en el momento de la conversión, todavía tienes hábitos, patrones y prácticas que deben eliminarse y reemplazarse.

Deja ir los temores que te impiden crecer. La verdad nos hará libres, pero a menudo nos hace miserables primero. El temor a lo que podríamos descubrir si enfrentamos honestamente nuestros defectos de carácter, puede mantenernos viviendo en la prisión de la negación. Solo cuando se le permite a Dios brillar la luz de su verdad sobre nuestras fallas, fracasos y complejos, podemos comenzar a trabajar en ellos. Es por eso que no puedes crecer sin una actitud humilde y enseñable.

Deja de basar tu identidad en tus “defectos”. Decimos: “Así soy yo” o “Es como soy”. La preocupación inconsciente es que, si me libero de mi hábito, de mi dolor o de mi problema, ¿quién seré? Este temor definitivamente puede hacer lento tu crecimiento.

Como escribí ayer, los buenos hábitos tardan en desarrollarse. Recuerda que tu carácter es la suma total de tus hábitos. No puedes pretender tener integridad a menos que sea tu costumbre ser siempre honesto. ¡Un marido que es fiel a su esposa la mayor parte del tiempo no es fiel en absoluto! Tus hábitos definen tu carácter.

Recuerda: debes practicar todos los días los hábitos que te harán más como Cristo.

“Entrégate de lleno a tus tareas, para que todos vean cuánto has progresado” 1 Timoteo 4:15 (NTV).

Get to Know the Creator and Savior

“Before anything else existed, there was Christ, with God. He has always been alive and is himself God. He created everything there is—nothing exists that he didn’t make. Eternal life is in him, and this life gives light to all mankind.”

John 1:1-4 (TLB)

Jesus came to earth as a baby at Christmas so that we could get to know him. While there are many titles for God, here are two ways he wants you to know him.

Know him as Creator. God made you to love you and to know you, and he wants you to love him and know him too! That’s one of the reasons he gave us the Bible. When you don’t understand how something works, the best place to find out is in the owner’s manual. The Bible is like an owner’s manual for life. Your Creator gave it to you to help you understand him, his love for you, and his purpose for your life.

In fact, because God created you, he’s the only one who can show you the purpose of your life. The Bible explains it like this: “Before anything else existed, there was Christ, with God. He has always been alive and is himself God. He created everything there is—nothing exists that he didn’t make. Eternal life is in him, and this life gives light to all mankind” John 1:1-4 (TLB).

Know him as Savior. God didn’t just create you; he also saves you. Jesus came at Christmas so he eventually could die for all your sins. If someone is willing to die for you, they’re worth getting to know!

Have you ever thought about why we need saving? Follow me in this. Heaven is a perfect place—no sorrow, no sadness, no sickness. It’s incredible. Heaven is perfect, but none of us are perfect. If God lets imperfect people into heaven with all of our faults and sins, it’s not going to be a perfect place anymore and would be no better than earth.

So God came up with a plan. John 1:11-12 says, “He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him. But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name” (HCSB).

Many people think God is the Father of everybody. He is not. God created everybody; God loves everybody; God has a purpose for everybody. But God is only the Father of those who choose to become a part of his family by meeting the one family requirement: Believe in his Son Jesus he sent at Christmas. That’s the one and only condition. 

Will this be the Christmas when you say yes to Jesus, get to know him as your Creator and Savior, and settle the issue—with certainty—of where you will spend eternity?

Talk It Over

How can you focus on God as your Creator and Savior this Christmas season?
God is Creator and Savior, but the Bible gives him many other titles too. When you think of God’s titles, which ones come to mind first?
Have you chosen to become part of God’s family by believing in and receiving Jesus? Do you know with absolute certainty where you will spend eternity when this life is over?

Where will you spend eternity?

The Bible says you can only get to heaven by trusting in God’s Son, Jesus Christ. You can’t earn your way into heaven: “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).


If you’re ready to commit your life to Jesus, start by praying this prayer:

“Dear God, you have promised that if I believe in your Son, Jesus Christ, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
