This Mashup Is Amazing

That Thing You Do Means You’re A Genius
You know that thing you do? It means you’re a genius.
Seriously, someone did a study. I don’t want to say who did they study, what they found, or even what specific thing it is you do that means you’re a genius…because it doesn’t matter.
Maybe it was swearing. Maybe it was not swearing. Maybe it was going to bed late. Maybe it was getting up early. Like I said, it doesn’t matter. There’s an article somewhere for each and every one of these, and I can pretty much wrap them all up into one post and cover everything by just saying: You know that thing you do? It means you’re a genius.
Now we can move on.

Is Lunch Ready Yet?
Is lunch ready yet? We never seem to get any closer. He just keeps flipping.
I really should have bought a steak at the store last time I was there. I thought about it, and didn’t. I keep kicking myself for that.

I’m Resorting To Poorly Drawn Lines A Lot
I don’t know what it is, but I’m resorting to Poorly Drawn Lines a lot. Mind you, it’s a good comic. Still, I’m resorting to it a lot…specifically to my favorite one, the treasure one. I’m not sure what it is, maybe the current political climate, but I’m seeing people reference “the real loser” quite a lot. Immediately, beyond my control perhaps, I fire back:
I’d say I had a problem, but I’m actually pretty good with this.

I’ll Be Reading Flash Fiction At The Colorado Poetry Rodeo (29th Annual) On April 21st!
I’ll be reading flash fiction at the 29th Annual Colorado Poetry Rodeo (hosted by Roseanna Frechette and SETH) on Friday April 21st. I realize that seems a little counter-intuitive, but the Colorado poetry goddesses and gods are highly committed to all forms of words, as well as performance, and have invited a crew from the Fbomb Flash Fiction Reading Series to participate (of which, Nancy Stohlman will be representing and has graciously invited Hillary Leftwich, Stina French, and myself to participate).
You should come out!
Here are the details from the Facebook event page:
The Colorado Poetry Rodeo (Podeo) celebrates its 29th annual event with an evening of multi-dynamic performances including some of the region’s most engaging poets and performers of poetry and spoken word. Event goes from 6pm to 2am presenting a wide range of featured work and open mic readers at Denver’s legendary Mercury Cafe (2199 California Street). Admission is $10.
Event opens at 6pm with ensemble Art Compost & the Word Mechanics in a musical-poetry jam paying Tribute to Poets Past of Denver.
From 8-10-30 a range of works include: performance poetry features, some of which integrate elements of music and dance, with sets by Roseanna Frechette, Wayne Gilbert, Jonathan Montgomery, Mila Popovich, M.D. Friedman, SETH, Marilyn Megenity; flash fiction readings by Nancy Stohlman, Hillary Leftwich, David Atkinson, Stina French; words of Stories Stories host Ed Ward; as well as sets by noted poets Les Reed, Carolyn Reed, Sean McAllister, Jimi Bernath, Ted Vaca, Emily Wiechec. As Denver’s slam community prepares to host this summer’s National Poetry Slam 2017, Mercury Cafe Slam Poets and Slam Nuba will share the stage with members of Denver’s youth slam team Minor Disturbance. Hosts for these feature hours are veteran performance poets SETH and Roseanna Frechette.
At 10:30pm the (free) Friday Night Open Mic takes place.
Colorado Poetry Rodeo was first presented by KUVO Radio in 1989 with a statewide call for submissions. Selected poets were then recorded and aired on the station throughout April (National Poetry Month) with the month-long celebration culminating in a marathon poetry reading open to the community. Since that first KUVO-sponsored year, this annual community event has been kept alive by various organizers and hosts including the late poet Woody Hildebrant, Mercury Cafe owner Marilyn Megenity, Jam Before the Slam hosts SETH, Roseanna Frechette, and others.

I Have Managed To Not Eat Any Pizza Rolls While My Wife Has Been Gone
I have managed to not eat any pizza rolls while my wife has been gone. No sugar cereals either. Usually I get a bunch of that stuff when she leaves. Though I haven’t been the best nutrition-wise while she’s been gone this time, I haven’t actually been too bad.
I bet I still gain three pounds.

My Wife Has Been Gone For Many Days. Have I Misbehaved Yet?
My wife has been gone for many days. She’s off vacationing in Europe and I couldn’t get away from work to go, even though flights were ridiculously cheap. I’ve been left on my own, as if I behave like an adult. She returns in a couple days, so the question arises…have I misbehaved?
It occurred to me after she left, my study is just below the spare bedroom upstairs. My study has ten foot floor to ceiling bookshelves. It’s the whole reason I wanted to get this house, to put those in. However, the spare bedroom is right above it. If I took out the floor, that would be at least nine feet additional the room would go up. Maybe ten, because of the floor. It’s spare, right? That means we don’t need it. All I’d have to do is take out the floor, extend the built in bookshelves up to the second floor ceiling, and I’d have a two-floor library with floor to ceiling bookshelves. I could even have a spiral staircase put in, or whatever. Think of all the books I could have then.
I mentioned this to my wife as a joke…but did I do it? My wife may have to wait until she comes home to find out.

Beetlejuice Had To Be One Of The Funnest Movies I Totally Got Wrong Going In
I was just thinking about Beetlejuice. That had to be one of the funnest movies I was totally mistaken about going in.
That came out when I was 11 or 12. As I remember, the trailers for the movie made me think it was all about the titular character. More like what the cartoon ended up being, though even then he was still the supporting character instead of the lead. I certainly didn’t imagine him as the villain, and had no idea of the actual main story line and the actual characters.
Note, this is the way I remember it. This may not be right. It’s been around 29 years.
So I saw the trailers and HAD to see the movie. They got me all riled up to see the movie. My sister was as excited to see it as I was. Then, it was a totally different movie from what we imagined, but that didn’t bother us a bit. We still loved it.
Just seemed strange at the moment to have expectations that pulled us in so much totally switched and have no worries in the slightest. That’s pretty rare. Usually people, me included, get somewhat ticked.

This Is Way Better Than What I Was Looking For
I was searching for an animated gif of a Taco Bell bean burrito. This is way better though. This is an animated gif of a guy making a lasagna out of Taco Bell burritos:
I want this now. It’s probably good for my health that I’m way too lazy to make it.
