I’ve Been Nostalgia Crushing On Showbiz Pizza Lately

I’ve been nostalgia crushing on Showbiz Pizza recently.

Not entirely sure why.

I Miss Having A Fish Tank In My Bedroom

I miss having a fish tank in my bedroom. I had one when I was in elementary school and it was very soothing when I was in bed, and cool to look at the rest of the time.

I don’t miss having to take care of it though. Fish tanks are a lot of effort. Also, I have a bunch of cats now. A fish tank would likely be a spectacularly bad idea now.

I probably won’t be getting a fish tank.

I’m Lucky I Haven’t Been Posting Stories On Here

I’m lucky I haven’t been posting stories on here. That probably sounds odd, but it’s true.

Whenever I start getting discouraged about a story getting rejected, I pause to think that I can always just use it for a post on here some time if it just doesn’t fit anywhere else. Then I usually keep submitting and/or take a look to see if it doesn’t need some kind of revision. I keep the idea of using it as a blog post in the back of my head, but so far whatever has always been accepted somewhere else first.

Of course, I do have pieces that haven’t been accepted somewhere that I’m not still sending out, but most of those I just decided were bad and haven’t faced rewriting yet. I also wrote some specially for this blog, but those were quick dash-offs that I didn’t feel merited actual writing. So far there’s been nothing that I felt was a real story that I had to resort to using as a blog post because no one took it before I got sick of trying.

I’ve been lucky. That’s all it is.

This Is Way More Entrancing Than It Should Be

This is way more entrancing than it should be.

I notice that I think about food a lot.

I Don’t Have Anything To Say About What Food You Like For The Most Part

I don’t have anything to say about what food you like for the most part. I might make a joke about it, but I don’t. Absent some way this actually harms me in some fashion, which I’d have to torture pretty hard to come up with a hypothetical, I just won’t have much right to say anything.

Eat it if you want. You don’t need permission from me.

Writing Posts For People Who Won’t See Them

I’ve ended up doing a number of inside jokes on this blog, posts for particular friends. Quite a few have gone up without me ever having heard from the person about them. They might have gotten a quick chuckle and just not said anything, but it’s just as possible that they never saw them.

I can think of three just off the top of my head.

Given the latter possibility, what am I even doing? Just laughing to myself? I know they might not ever see the posts made specially for them, and no one else could understand. I know that ahead of time…and yet I still keep doing those kind of posts.

That probably should tell me something about myself.

Ehhh, That Seems Iffy

I keep seeing this picture. It’s from the Apollo 11 mission. That happened in 1969. Plenty of us weren’t born in 1969. Are those of us born much later still contained in the picture?

The argument of course would be that the stuff we’re made out of is, but that just seems pedantic. I don’t know, that assertion just bugs me.

Who Gives Away A Late Book In A Series At A Convention?

I was at a convention last summer and was given a goodie bag as part of that. Included in the goodie bag were two books. One was fine, I read it and enjoyed it okay. The second was the fourth book in a series. What the heck was the convention thinking?

Seriously. Did they assume everyone at the convention had already read the first three books? (Nothing about the convention would in any way suggest everyone had.) Did they think everyone who hadn’t would run out and buy the first three and read them before reading the free one? Did anyone actually do that?

There’s no way I was not going to read a free book. I’m not much for the mainline fantasy market to begin with, and not series of any kind, but I still had the book and was going to read it. I guess it just meant I wasn’t going to enjoy it very much.

Was it one you could just walk into on the fourth book and be okay? I don’t know. I was lost, but was that because I hadn’t read the other books or because I didn’t like the book? It felt like the book was 99% concerned with spinning pretty fluff and 1% concerned with writing a book that was engaging on any other aspect other than the pretty fluff. I mean, this was as bad as having to sit and listen to someone going on and on at a ren fair who had no knowledge that no one was interested in a thing they said, deriving all enjoyment from just being able to talk. I’m not giving a damn about the book or the characters, nothing. How do I even review something like that, risking that it’s just because I wasn’t willing to go out and get and read three other books first?

Why would a convention give out something like that?

Me: Last Night And Now

This was me last night:

as a result, this is me now (as of when I’m writing this, obviously not when you’re reading it):

What a day.
