Facebook Can Change Page Exposure. Twitter Can Tweak Algorithms. But I’ll Still Be Here.

Facebook has implemented so many changes over the years. They add features, change your privacy settings without telling you, stop your ability to see posts from pages you’ve “liked” because they want the people behind those pages to pay for exposure. I get it. Facebook is a business. They want to make money.

Over the weekend, many Twitter folk were told that Twitter is going to start doing many of the very things that we don’t like about Facebook. They’re going to start deciding what tweets...

My Observations about Government, Media, and the Zika Virus

5660445605_8dc70556c2_zI’m often asked why I would write a dystopian novel about a virus destroying the majorityof our population.

“You know that would never happen, right?”people have asked. (Though I will say that most people totally think it could happen.)

Or this one: “Do you notbelieve the WHOor the CDCwould step in and contain a virus if it became a problem?”

If you’re curious to see the mind of a conspiracy theorist and dystopian writer at work, keep reading…

Here’s the thing. I believethere are amazing peop...

Home Library Envy: A Look Inside Neil Gaiman’s Personal Library

Okay, this photo is just a screen shot of one of Kyle Cassidy’s photos of Neil Gaiman’s Personal Library of never-ending books. Click on the photo to see the rest of the collection, plus a picture of his cat, and a stuffed jackalope. (Is that a thing? Why is that a thing?)

Three Most Important Lessons in Three Years of Publishing

Yep! That’s right. It’s been three years since I published Mindspeak. Of course, I started writing before that in order to have a book ready to publish in January of 2013, but January 25 is an important anniversary, and I didn’t want to let it go by without a small mention, even if it’s only to a small handful of people who stop by this tiny part of the webosphere that belongs to me.

What will I be doing to celebrate this special day in the life of a writer?

Working on my next book, of course...

The Friday Five: Sneak Peek at Renaissance, Snow Storm 2016, and Your Favorite Series

1.) Snow Storm 2016

It’s a strange kind of Friday. We here in Central Kentucky are getting our first “real” snowfall today, and it’s coming in the form of a bitterly cold, 35 mph wind gusty, possibly 22-hour snowfall. Currently, we’re expecting accumulation in the 7 – 11 inch range. Which, for Kentucky, basically means:

kentucky is closed

2.) Renaissance Editsrenaissance paperback cover final 200x310

Just in case you thought I was actually taking a snow day, I assure you, I am not. I’m working furiously on the edits to Renaissance. This might be som...

Cloning the First Human – Documentary

Let’s start today with a disclaimer (always a sign of something good, right?):

DISCLAIMER: I do NOT condone scienceexperimentation on human beings. I even wish we could further science and medical studies without ever experimenting onanimals or harming them in any way. Life is precious, and it is cruel to use any life to further our own agendas if it means harm to the test subjects. The video below is simply a documentary that explores the possibility of human cloning.

Having said that, I wri...

Emerge, Uprising, Renaissance… Marketing, Free Books, Word of Mouth, Oh My!

FB Releasing 2_16_16

Happy Thursday!

Where has this week gone? I have so many irons in the fire this week. I’m re-reading the Mindspeak series while plotting the 5th story in this series. I’m researching an idea for a future book/series. I’m doing a bit of taxes and accounting (it’s that time of year). And I’m working on ways to put more copies of all three books of the Emerge series into readers’ hands.

This is where I need your help. Can you do me one itsy bitsy favor? I promise this will be painless, and I wi...

Starting a New Project: Mindspeak News

IMG_2525I’m brainstorming a new story today. But while it’s a new story, it’s also just an extension of another bigger story that is the Mindspeak series.

So, while I’m excited to start this new project, I’m also momentarily intimidated by the fact that:

I must review every detail and story fact I’ve already shared with the rest of the world and record that information in what is called by some a “story bible”. I will be getting inside the heads ofcharacters I haven’t explored that deeply in the pas...

The Friday Five

Happy Friday!

1.) Blogging

What a fun week! I’ve blogged every day this week, and I’ve given away quite a few books (they’ll be emailed to winners soon). And I loved every second of it. So the big questions everyone’s asking: Will I be blogging daily in the future? And will Ibe giving away books?

I will not be blogging daily, but I do hope to blog fairly regularly. I’ve loved the discussions on the blog this week. It’s been fun getting to know readers and meeting new people in the comments. I...

Any Marvel Fans Out There? Jessica Jones Might Be Cancelled.

I’m not acomic book kinda girl. Never really have been, really. But I have watched a few superhero cartoons and movies in my day. And I do enjoy Avengers and a couple of other Marvel movies at least once. Sometimes more than once if the family is looking for a good family movie on homemade pizza night (this is a thing in our house, in case you didn’t already know).

But the television shows are a different story. Marvel charactersare portrayed differently in the television shows —a little more...
