Exposed in Darkness Chapter 1

I ignored the first three pings—the annoying sound of emails hitting my inbox.

My computer was across the room, I was still on my first cup of coffee, and it was only eight o’clock in the morning—way too early to deal with whatever was coming in. Sinking further into an oversized leather armchair, I...

BookBub and Getting Books at Reduced Prices

Good morning! I often get emails from readers who enjoyed Mindspeak or Emerge and are excited to read the next book(s) in one series or the other but are sad that those books aren’t free.

It makes me sad, too. I wish I could give everything away for free and only write for fun. I also wish Starbucks coffee and college education for my two children was free.

But all is not lost. I often tweet when books are temporarily on sale or sometimes offer discounts inside my online store. Just last week...

How Do Authors Write In Different Genres?

I starteda brand new story this week. Yay!!

Well, I didn’t actually startit “this” week. This story (and several others) actually started the second I came up with the idea for the In Darkness series, which happenedduring a snow storm last winter. From there, I began thinking incessantly about a set of characters and their flaws and how I wanted them to grow. What horrible things had happened to them in their pasts? What would they go through in the future? How they might fall in love, fall o...

Let’s Do Judge a Book By Its Cover: The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer

This is the first in a new series of blog posts.

I seriously just thought of doing this, so it might just be a series of one.

“But you can’t just write one post and it be a series,” I hear you saying.

Fine. Whatever. Just enjoy the ride of this one, then. But just in case you’re wrong, you should totally subscribe to receive email notifications when I do put up new blog posts. (This is different than my newsletter, so see the sidebar for more info.)

Moving on…

In this first blog post in a ser...

Tim Urban (Wait But Why): Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator

procrastination

You guys know how obsessed I am with TED Talks, right?Well, I hesitate to share today’s favorite TED Talk because this “Idea Worth Spreading” actually gives you a look insidehow my brain (and many others who aren’t afraid to admit it) actually operates.

And as I was procrastinating yesterday (HAHA! Inside joke that you’ll get after you watch this TEDTalk), I stumbled upon this talk and then proceeded to venture around everything on the Wait But Why website, including the full dramatic nightm...

Developing the Hero

billionaire looking at skyline at night

I’m currently writing the first book of a brand new adult romantic suspense series. Anytime I begin a new project I always read and review some of my favorite books on the craft of writing and I think deeply about the kind of story I want to give readers. Even as I’m writing the first draft, I’m learning new writing techniques and improving on what I’ve written in the past.

Though I’m already 22k words into this new story, I’m taking somewhat of a step back today to develop my hero a...
