Trending: I’m Moving to __________ If Trump Becomes President

Last week I posted on Twitter and Facebook this:

I’m pretty sure Donald Trump might be the best thing to happen to dystopian novelists in decades.

— Heather Sunseri (@HeatherSunseri) December 23, 2015

It got more commenting on Facebook than Twitter, and it garnered one response that I wasn’t expecting that was later deleted by the original tweeterthatimpliedthis:

So, you’d vote for someone that might ruin our country just to increase thesales of your dystopian novels?

Then I responded with:...

Emerge Research, Ebola Prevention, and More Giveaways

A lot of research went into writing the Emerge series. Though I created the airborne hemorrhagic fever Samael Strain (nicknamed Bad Sam in the books) from my imagination, it was clearly inspired by the Ebola virus.

The Ebola virus has taken more than 11,300lives since the recent outbreak in West Africa. That’s a lot! But not nearly the number of lives that Bad Sam takes six years prior to the opening of Emerge, but Emerge is fiction, right? That would never happen, right?

So what are the diff...

Mark Zuckerberg and AI (Artificial Intelligence)

Happy New Year!(Read this post and comment to receive an iBooks code to read EMERGE for FREE.)

I told you in this post that I planned to blog more in the new year. Well, all new habits start on Monday, right? So let’s start the new year with what seems to be a trending topic this morning: Mark Zuckerberg and the “simple”AI butler he plans to build this year to “run my home and help me with my work”.

In a Facebook post (of course!), Mr. Zuckerberg said this:

busy cafeJust readafabulous, AND FRIGHTENING, first-hand account of how one hacker was able to learn intimate details of the lives of everyone in acafe he visited. READ THE ARTICLE HERE.

Mr. Internet: You Can’t Tell Me To Stop Writing/Reading Dystopian Science Fiction!

So I was mindlessly scrolling through my Facebook feedyesterday. I wasn’t really looking to engage in conversations, stupid or meaningful, but I came across a click-bait headline. So I did what all normal Facebook-addicted people do. I clicked.

On this:

“Stop Writing Dystopian Sci-Fi—It’s Making Us All Fear Technology”

WHAT???!!!

Mr. Internet, you are S-T-U-P-I-D.

I read the article, and the Facebook post it was attached to, which said that authors should be more mindful of what they write an...

Fabulous Friday Five

1.) BLOGGING ANNOUNCEMENT

I’m going to start blogging more in the new year. Have I said this before? I have? Noooo! Well, it’s going to be different this time.Promise!

My newest blogging ideas stem from the number of questions I get about my story ideas. People ask questions like:

“Where do you get your ideas?” and

“Do you think people are really being cloned?” and

“If you could alter the way your children might look before they are even conceived, would you?”

I’m constantly researching, read...

Barbie: Science, Fiction, or SpyTerrorism?

Yes, I made up the word SpyTerrorism, because I think it’s the new trend coming to… Toys?

I’m a little out of touch with this year’s newest and greatest toys. My kids have grown beyond the crazy visits to Toys R Us. But an article caught my eye this morning about his year’s newest “Hello Barbie.” Not only does this Barbie talk, it listens, too.

WHAT?

We’ve seen talking toys before. I know this is not a new thing. And this Barbie doesn’t say all that much. She mainly talks about fashion and ot...

My Publishing Process

I don’t often write about my publishing process because 1) I’mtrying like crazy to stay focused on making up stories (and, in case you don’t already know this: I am an easily distracted person) and 2) everyone’s publishing process is so different these days, and I feel strongly that each writer must find what works for them. So before wego on, know the following:

This is a snapshot of my process for publishing eBooks. It might not be the right way or the best way, but it’s working for me. Th...
