Balance: Practicing Peace for Indie Writers

Busyness. It can get under all our skins. For indie writers, one of the most challenging bits can be balancing our extreme work practices with the rest of our lives. As I near another publishing period, my mind is racing with tasks I must accomplish during the days ahead. Not only am I focused on my work, but my family, friends, and social commitments. It can be a lot. Lately, I’ve been feeling the pressure. Emotionally, I’ve been pretty healthy, but mymind is feeling more and more stretched...

What You Might Have Missed This Week

This is my mischeivous face! Beware! It means some foul plot is afoot! Just kidding. It’s really just my normal Sunday “What You Might Have Missed This Week” post. Wow…that is a mouthful. I should come up with something more condensed and charming! Oh well. This weekend has been a whirlwind of FUN! I’ll tell you more about it later, but suffice it to say…it involved lots of fun, frivolity, and awesomeness (awww…the “a” broke my alliteration!) I’m in a goofy mood today. My apologies. If you’re...

My 6 Essential Reading Accessories!

We writers do an awful lot of reading. Well, at least weshouldbe doing a lot of reading. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I read a LOT. Now, I don’t read as much as some folks, but I read a whole lot more than the average bear. I’m a “devourer”-meaning, I love to just lose myself in a book for hours or days at a time. In all the time I have spent reading, I’ve developed an affinity for certain “accessories” that increase my reading pleasure.

1.A fluffy blanket// You can’t go wrong with...

Wishes, Hopes, and Dreams for November

I was inspired by this lovely lady’s post about her plans for November, so I thought I’d make my own about this AMAZING month! Life seems to have flown by since I publishedNight Bells at the end of August. I just blinked and here we are in November! It’s really hard to believe. Some people scoff at scheduling and making plans, but honestly…the Philosopher and I feel most at ease when we make plans and schedule intentional time with our friends and families. That way, we are able to make sure...

Leaves Talk: The Fire Pit

Morbid, but sadly…it’s true. On Halloween night, we built a fire and Savannah and I got tons of “dead” leaves from the yard and threw them in the metal bowl. Poor little guys…they just didn’t see it coming.

Writing has been really sporadic this week due to the fact that I’m trying to get LOTS of editing done for my manuscript I plan on publishing soon. I have lots of fun ideas floating around in my head, though, which is a good sign. Tonight, the Philosopher and I are gonna go to a Halloween P...

November is a Whirlwind

Happy All Saints Day, everyone!

I trust that all of you had terrific Halloween times last night! Savannah and her husband came up from Atlanta to spend time with the Philosopher and me at our little house! They don’t normally get trick or treaters, so we let them come up and share some of our 300-something (seriously, we run out of candy EVERY year…). Here are a couple fun photos from our evening:

Okay, seriously? That fire took FOREVER to make. We decided at one point that we were just “cookin...

The Wolf at the End of the Hall

The Wolf at the End of the Hall

Clammy sweat oozes over my tiny hands as I slowly open and close them…over and over. I can’t hear its howling or discern the clinking scratching of its claws over the floorboards, but I know it’s there. The wolf at the end of the hall. It’s there every night, just as I’m on the edge of sleep; as if it knows I can’t escape its invitation. I swallow the bile in my throat. It, too, meanders down my throat like a thick sludge. Sitting up, I stare at the familiar su...
