A Christmas Tale Blog Event: My Picks

My “A Christmas Tale” Blog Event is coming up soon and I’ve already made my 2 reading picks! The rules state that the books must be either Christmas-related or holiday-themed. I’m very excited about my choices.

The first is A Christmas Carolby Charles Dickens.

The second isHogfatherby Terry Pratchett.

I’ve been wanting to read these two books for EVER. EspeciallyA Christmas Carol. I’ve had that on my to-read list since I was a little girl, but I’ve never made time to actually read it.Hogfather i...

5 Blogging Tips for Writers and Readers

Now, I am by no means an expert on blogging, but since I’ve been growing my readers steadily for a while now, I thought it might be fun to give you 5 things I’ve learned! Blogging is almost an essential for authors–independent and traditional alike. Authors needs to have a blog in order to attract readers to your writing style and unique characteristics. If you’re not an author, but love to write or read, you might find yourself becoming a “book blogger”. For all of us, there are a few things...

What You Might Have Missed This Week

It has been a seriously busy week for me! I’m not sure about you guys, but this time of year always seems to SPEED by at lightning’s pace. In case you didn’t know, I’ve was super sick last week, but I’m on the mend and I’m looking forward to a terrific Thanksgiving week with family and friends! One of my favorite traditions every year is putting up our Christmas decorations while watching “White Christmas”. The Philosopher isn’t much for the decorating process, but he loves to help out and ha...

Book Review: The Fifth Elephant by Terry Pratchett

Title: The Fifth Elephant

Author:Terry Pratchett

Length:370 pages

Genre:Fantasy

My Rating:5/5 Stars

Terry Pratchett has done it again! He’s created a marvelously entertaining story that has adorable, lovable characters and a complicated plot. He never fails to delight the reader with his Discworld shenanigans! Sam Vimes of the Watch is the star in this story and he is as prickly, committed, and humorous as ever. Much of this story takes place in Uberwald, which I hadn’t really read much about befor...

The Truth About Deadlines

Most writers put far too much pressure on themselves to finish the book by the ominous DEADLINE. But what are deadlines really? For some, they are ironclad dates thatcannotbe changed no matter what. For others, they are merely goals–a good measuring stick for your real progress. What should they be? I’d like to think the latter. On my current manuscript, I set the deadline (a few months back) for November 15th as my publishing date. Well, it’s November 16th and I definitely didn’t publish my...

My Apologies…Leaves are MIA Today

Hi, all!

First off, I want to offer my apologies that there isn’t a Leaves Talk post this morning. I am just feeling SUPER sick with whatever sinus gunk I’ve picked up and I’m focusing all my available energy on getting my book ready to publish. Thanks for your understanding! I promise I’ll have leafy goodness back by next Friday!

Second, WOW. Thanksgiving is next week. Ca-ray-zay. Happy Pre-Thanksgiving to everyone. I’ll try to be back later with super good news (i.e. that my book will be avai...

Loquacious Literarity: Favorite Quotes

I love making up words. It’s just something that brings a smile to my face. Literarity? Pretty sure that’s not areal word, but it sure does sound like one, huh? It may actuallybe one, but it is super obscure if it is. All growing up, I was fascinated by words. Not just English words, but Japanese, Spanish, German, Korean, Chinese….(on and on)…words. I was always stringing them together (read:talking my head off)every chance I could get. I thought it would be fun to display some of...

Wednesday Wanderment

YUM! I’ve got some tasty coffee and wine on the brain this week! Normally, I’m a big tea drinker during much of the year, but in the fall and winter, I like to break out the coffee. As well, over the years, my husband has introduced me to some really incredible wines that I love to enjoy every now and then. For some reason, I thought this would make a fun picture! Ponder it…daydream about tasty hazelnut goodness and a blush wine to sip with a loved one!

Let’s just jump right into our Wednesday...

Book Review: Small Gods by Terry Pratchett

Title: Small Gods

Author:Terry Pratchett

Length: 357 pages

Genre:Fantasy

My Rating:5/5 Stars

This is one of my absolute favorite Terry Pratchett books (that I’ve read so far!) This book is a very interesting parody on organized religion. As Christian, I found that there was some absolute wisdom to this book. Many places in the Church today, Christians are just living for the church and itshierarchies, but not the God that established it. Everything I’ve ever read about Mr. Pratchett indicates that h...

Balance: When You’re Feeling Sick

This is something I’m looking forward to today!Unfortunately the Philosopher has come down with some nasty sinus bug. Bonus for married folks? Typically, when one spouse gets sick, the other gets sick soon after–at leastmostof the time. So, currently, my hubby is in the bed loaded up with antihistamine and sugar plums dancing in his head. Me? I’m feelin’ pretty crummy, but I’m chugging along, working in my pajamas, and drinking lots of fluids. I’ll confess, I did sleep about an hour later thi...
