giveaway: win wall lettering from WiseDecor
I am delighted to get to tell my readers about decorative wall quotes from WiseDecor. When I was offered the chance to choose lettering of my own for review, I went with one of my favorite quotes by a writer in a movie: “I’m a writer. I give the truth scope!” (spoken by Chaucer in A Knight’s Tale) to use on my office wall.
Because I was under deadline when I received my lettering, the decals had to sit and wait about six weeks before I was able to apply it. The company recommends applying with...

alone yet not alone
Have you heard the Oscar-nominated song, Alone Yet Not Alone, sung by Joni Eareckson Tada? Absolutely beautiful. I had not heard of this movie, but I mean to look into it now.

manifest in the Lord’s prayer
As previously mentioned in this blog, my word for 2014 is “manifest.”
The dictionary defines the word as (adjective) 1: readily perceived by the senses and especially by the sense of sight; 2: easily understood or recognized by the mind : obvious; (transitive verb) : to make evident or certain by showing or displaying.
Imagine my delight when, in my morning Bible reading in Matthew 6 using the Voice Bible translation (not my “deep study” translation but one that is wonderful for devotional purp...

distance walked in 2013: 1,028 miles
In this morning’s email, I received a graphic summary of the distance I walked in 2013, plus my most and least active days of the week and months of the year. 2013 was my first full year to wear a Fitbit. Considering how very sedentary I am due to living at the computer, I am quite pleased with the results for last year. But I still have plenty of room for improvement.
My goal is to walk a minimum of 1,460 miles in a year. Which means last year I was two-thirds of the way to my goal. I’m hopin...

If you dream of getting published, if you desire to make your writing stronger, if you need to improve your marketing mojo, you should seriously consider attending the Writing for the Soul Conference in Colorado Springs, February 13-16, 2014. The line up of speakers is truly stellar.

celebrating thirty years!
Thirty years ago this month, I drove through a bad snowstorm on slick roads to attend my very first book signing of my just released first book. I was afraid no one would show up because of the weather, but I needn’t have worried. Thanks to a half-page spread in the local newspaper plus my mother telling everybody she knew (along with a host of total strangers) about me, the bookstore was crammed. Even my first grade teacher came!
The store sold over 150 copies of my book that day, which gave...

an interview regarding A Promise Kept
Prior to the release of A Promise Kept, I was interviewed regarding the personal story that inspired my novel. Below are the questions and answers that came out of that interview.
~robin
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about A Promise Kept and specifically how your own life inspired this story?
A Promise Kept opens as Allison Kavanagh arrives at the house her aunt Emma bequeathed to her — a log home in the mountains. Her marriage of more than twenty years has ended in divorce because of her hus...

some interesting walking statistics
2013 was a pretty good year when it came to my fitness goals. Not 100% success, but not 0% or 25% or even 50% either. By increasing my daily steps substantially, I got my cholesterol levels down into the healthiest range it has ever been. That alone was a triumph.
Thanks to the FitBit Zip—which I clip to my bra so I don’t lose it as has happened with both my daughter and granddaughter who lost their trackers that were clipped to their waistbands—and the FitBit app on my iPhone, I can keep an e...
