Love's Sweet Beginning LOVE’S SWEET BEGINNING

by Ann Shorey

It wasn’t Cassie Haddon’s fault that she had managed to reach the age of twenty-five without possessing any useful skills. Until the war, she had always had servants to wait on her. Since th...

January Wrap Up

Can you believe we’ve arrived at the last day of January already? Boy, the time sure goes by fast!

I decided I would do a wrap up blog post each month on a few topics. So here we go for January 2014:

Barefoot Summer Books:

My reading year has started off with a bang. I’ve completed ten books this month. (Not counting five novels I read for a contest which were of the type I refuse to even list on Goodreads as having read them. Poor prose. Objectionable language and gratuitous scenes. No thanks.) I don’t expect...

cover sneak peek: a wish & a prayer

A Wish & A PrayerI’ve got an ebook-only novella release that should be available within the next couple of weeks. It’s a whimsical historical romance that involves an angel helping two people find each other. A Wish & a Prayer is pure fantasy, and it was a lot of fun to write, from the opening line right through to the last line.

Have you read and enjoyed Debbie Macomber’s books that feature three angels (Shirley, Goodness and Mercy) who come to earth during the Christmas season? If so, then I think you’ll hav...

deadlines: what they do to writers

As I was scrambling to finish my November 2014 release, the first in a new contemporary romance series, so I could send it to my editor, a writer friend forwarded a link to a blog post by Kristen Lamb called You Know You’re a Writer When …

The whole post is good, funny when exaggerated, a little painful because it’s scary-close to accurate, but this one particularly hit me between the eyes:

You Know You’re a Writer …

When it comes to revisions, you actually contemplate hanging one of those cheap...

giveaway: win wall lettering from WiseDecor

Wall Lettering

I am delighted to get to tell my readers about decorative wall quotes from WiseDecor. When I was offered the chance to choose lettering of my own for review, I went with one of my favorite quotes by a writer in a movie: “I’m a writer. I give the truth scope!” (spoken by Chaucer in A Knight’s Tale) to use on my office wall.

Because I was under deadline when I received my lettering, the decals had to sit and wait about six weeks before I was able to apply it. The company recommends applying with...

Have you heard the Oscar-nominated song, Alone Yet Not Alone, sung by Joni Eareckson Tada? Absolutely beautiful. I had not heard of this movie, but I mean to look into it now.

manifest in the Lord’s prayer

BibleAs previously mentioned in this blog, my word for 2014 is “manifest.

The dictionary defines the word as (adjective) 1: readily perceived by the senses and especially by the sense of sight; 2: easily understood or recognized by the mind : obvious; (transitive verb) : to make evident or certain by showing or displaying.

Imagine my delight when, in my morning Bible reading in Matthew 6 using the Voice Bible translation (not my “deep study” translation but one that is wonderful for devotional purp...
