Book Review: Hothouse Flower
Hothouse Flower (Calloway Sisters #2) by Krista Ritchie: Ryke Meadows, meet Daisy Calloway ... she’s all grown up.
Twenty-five-year-old Ryke Meadows knows he’s hard to love. With a billion-dollar inheritance, a track-star resume, and an alpha-male personality—he redefines the term likable asshole. But he’s not living to make friends. Or enemies. He just wants to free climb three of the toughest mountains in Yosemite without drama or interruption.
And then he receives a distressed call from a girl in Paris—a girl that he has never been allowed to have.
Daisy Calloway is eighteen. Finally. With her new found independence, she can say goodbye to her overbearing mother and continue her modeling career. Next stop, Paris. Fashion Week begins with a bang, and Daisy uncovers the ugly reality of the industry. She wants to prove to her family that she can live on her own, but when everything spirals out of control, she turns to Ryke to keep her secrets.
As Daisy struggles to make sense of this new world and her freedom, she pushes the limits and fearlessly rides the edge. Ryke knows there’s deep hurt beneath every impulsive action. He must keep up with Daisy, and if he lets her go, her favorite motto—“live as if you’ll die today”—may just come true.
New Adult Romance: recommended for readers 18+ for mature content
***Authors' Note***
Hothouse Flower is a spin-off of the Addicted series. Kiss the Sky is required before reading, and we strongly recommend reading the Addicted series before this spin-off.
Hannah's thoughts: This book gets ★★★★★+ STARS FROM ME! A GRADE A PIECE OF WORK GIRLS. Total 5 star book! (wow shocker...not) Ryke is totally my #1 boyfriend now! (he always was though so...)
If you've been waiting patiently (patiently yeah...psht...not really) for this book since ricochet like I have, you know just how awesome it felt to have it in your hands. As soon as I got this book I had to devour it. I kept going too fast but I couldn't stop myself! It was so good! I wanted more! KB said it was really long and they hoped that wasn't a problem, hell yeah it was a problem, I want more! (KB plan on doing a poll for more of the Calloway Sisters books, YES YES YES PLEASE DO IT!)
When I got this I was secretly reading it throughout class and it was worth all the education I missed out on today!
The Addicted Series by Becca & Krista Ritchie is what it's name is. Addictive. You can't stop at one book. GUYS read them all! They are great! The story lines, the flow of the writing, the characters, the BROTP'S, the emotional scenes, the steamy scenes, all of it. It is so great, everything is so originally plotted out so delicately by these two lovely writers, you won't find a plot hole, you won't find anything wrong, because these books are perfect! They are my favorite New Adult series ever.
Everyone read this!

Book Review: Shattered Ties & Twisted Ties
Shattered Ties (Ties #1) by K.A. Robinson: With a former supermodel mother and a rock-and-roll legend father, Emma Preston has the best of everything. Nothing is as perfect as it seems though. After her parents divorce, she’s forced to live with her mother in a private Santa Monica community. Ignoring their parental roles, her mother becomes more focused on climbing the social ladder while her father is off on tour.
Growing up in a trailer park with his mother, Jesse is used to people looking down on him. When his mother begs him to submit an application for a scholarship to one of Santa Monica’s top private schools, he never expects to actually get it. When he does, he is forced to attend school with a bunch of rich kids. He ignores their stares as they judge him for having tattoos and a less than impressive car. As long as he has his surfboard and the guys at the tattoo shop, he knows he can make it through.
When Jesse shows up on the first day of school, Emma can’t help but be intrigued. Her mother would never approve of Emma talking to someone so poor, but she doesn’t care because something about Jesse draws her to him.
Jesse tries to hate Emma, but he discovers that he can’t resist her. Forced to hide their relationship from Emma’s mother and everyone else around them, things start to fall apart. When Jesse’s friend, Ally, decides to interfere, things go from bad to worse.
Can they survive their first love? Or will they be left with nothing more than shattered ties?
Twisted Ties (Ties #2) by K.A. Robinson: Two years ago, Emma Preston walked away from Jesse Daniels. It is a decision she has regretted ever since. Plagued with the knowledge that Ally’s lies tore them apart, Emma enlists Jesse’s former best friend, Andy, to help her search for him.
When he left California, Jesse was determined to start over in West Virginia with his mother. Now, the past is determined to catch up with him—first, with the appearance of Ally, and when Emma and Andy come back into his life.
Just when Emma thinks she’s found Jesse, a dark secret and misunderstandings force them apart before they can even reconnect. Jesse is torn between his love for Emma and protecting his childhood friend, Ally. Ally has an agenda of her own, and she’s not about to let Emma get in her way—even if that means getting rid of her…permanently.
Can Emma and Jesse’s relationship survive all of their twisted ties?
Rosie's thoughts: These books show how true love can conquer all.
Jessie and Emma officially meet on Jessie's first day at his new school, an expensive private school which he is attending because of winning a scholarship. Jessie comes from a financially poor home living in a trailer park with his Mom, whereas Emma is financially rich living in a mansion with her Mom. Emma reaches out to Jessie proving to him that not all the pupils in the school are stuck up and snobby.
Misunderstanding get in their way and they end up living thousands of miles away from each other. Jessie had two friends Andy and his twin sister Ally they had lived on the same trailer park as Jessie until he moved away with his Mom. Ally had loved Jessie all her life and would literally do anything to keep them apart. Especially when she discovers that Emma, with the help of her new found friend Andy, planned to follow Jessie in the hope of reuniting with him. However, Ally becomes unstable and violent and does everything in her power to keep them apart permanently.
I loved the theme of these books that class divides are not stronger than love and if true love is meant to be it will always shine through.
I give Shattered Ties 4 hearts & Twisted Ties 5 hearts.

Book Review: Trophy Husband
Trophy Husband (Caught Up In Love #3) by Lauren Blakely: Sometimes you can't help falling in love, even when you try to do the opposite...
Successful fashion blogger McKenna Bell has spent far too long protecting herself after the way her ex-fiancé left her at the altar for a college chick he met the night of his bachelor party. Loving again, trusting again, well, that's just not in the cards. Especially now that her ex is back in town with his new woman, demanding custody of McKenna's favorite creature in the whole world--her dog.
No effing way. McKenna's had enough of him, and she decides to even the score by finding her own hot young thing -- a Trophy Husband. Sure, she's only twenty-seven, but doesn't that make it even more fun -- and infuriating to her ex -- to pursue a younger man?
When she declares her intentions on her daily blog, her quest quickly skyrockets in popularity, and that's when Chris enters the picture, and he’s got all the assets. He's handsome, successful, and turns her inside out with a kiss to end all kisses, the kind that makes you feel like a shooting star.
But loving again could mean losing again, and it's so much easier to focus on getting even, isn't it? Unless, you just can't help falling in love. Which means McKenna will have to come face to face with what she really wants in life -- protecting her heart from hurt, or letting go of her fears of a new beginning.
Whairigail's thoughts: **Thanks to Lauren Blakely for providing this on Audible.com via The Bibliobelle's Blog!**
Our Heronie, McKenna, is everything single women want - successful, comfortable money-wise, sexy, fashionable and has a great circle of friends. She makes us laugh, shows us her tender and insecure side but does all this with decorum and inner strength - it is truly wonderful to have a stong female lead in a romance novel!
“May the next man in McKenna's life be one of those heroes in a romance novel - rich, good-looking and perfect in every way.”
There are various different men we meet throughout this novel, each of whom are totally different - different quirks, levels of handsome-ness and intellect.
The book is fresh, current, funny, sweet, genuine and truthful. I listened to this on the drive to and from work everyday making the commute less painful!
I would definately reccommend a Lauren Blakely novel to anyone needing lifted from a book slump!

Book Review: Bender
Bender (The Core Four #1) by Stacy Borel: All Keegan wanted was a roommate who was quiet, minded their own business, and paid for part of the rent. Instead, she got Camden Brooks.
Camden, with his sinful body, sharp tongue, and the inability to stay out of Keegan’s personal space, couldn’t seem to curb his interest in the new girl who wouldn’t put up with his domineering ways.
Feelings were running rampant, sexual tension was thick, and both were struggling to let go of control.
To some people, getting a roommate simply meant living with another person. But to both Camden and Keegan it was a curveball that neither was prepared to swing at.
Rosie's thoughts: What do you get when you put together two stubborn and independent people, only a totally amazing book entitled 'Bender'.
When Keegan decides to leave home, to escape her reliant Mom, never in her wildest dreams did she expect to come across the hot bod that is Camden Brooks. Believe me you will come to totally love Camden by the end of the book, he is my new book boyfriend!
Keegan is a feisty heroine with all the compassion, determination and grit that you would want in a girl. She loves her sister and looks after her as if she is the parent and not just an older sibling.
When Keegan and Camden are together, oh boy, do sparks fly, in every way imaginable. They don't hit it off straight away, in fact Camden's moodiness and arrogance put Keegan off. However, Camdem shows he has a deep compassionate layer that he keeps hidden from most as it would spoil his badass image, but he reveals it to Keegan and when they eventually get together oh boy is hot!
The story line of the book was great. All the obstacles Keegan and Camden met along the way made you in parts laugh and in other parts cry but definitely kept my attention throughout (so much so I read it all at once).
We met Dodger and Camden's other brothers who are all hot alpha males with their own stories to tell and OMG I cannot wait to read them.

Book Review: Heart Tales
Heart Tales by Celine Garcia: Three charming tales of that never ending rollercoaster called life, each one sure to pack a sweet punch of candy for the heart. One story involves a girl and a mystery box with handwritten song lyrics. The second follows a guy on the road with memories of the girl that got away, and finally a teen girl who can actually speak to the source of her angst…her heart.
Audio Frequency
Geraldine works the counter at Audio Frequency, a small music store that was once the hub of the local music scene. The best part of her day is a little brown box that is delivered to the store with song lyrics written inside, a playful guessing game between a mystery guy who seems to totally get her. Geraldine finds she is ready to make big changes at Audio Frequency and thankfully her best friend Sam just scored her a ticket to the biggest music benefit in town. Geraldine may get everything she wants when she discovers that her mystery guy may be at the event.
A sweet little story about friendship, expectations, and the leaps that must be made to take the love you want.
Legal U Turn
Gwen and Dean share an awkward drive home for their first college break because of convenience. But with hate comes a confiding friendship that may mean more to Dean. After his true feelings slip during a trip home, his friendship with Gwen ends abruptly and they don’t speak or see each other again.
Two years later Dean finds himself driving the same route he and Gwen used to take home years ago and it’s accompanied with the best memories of Gwen. A journey filled with a fun combo of memorable road trips and not so great first impressions causes Dean to wonder, is there a possibility of rekindling one of his greatest friendships?
Heart Set on You
A funny thing happened to Ellie when she woke after her heart transplant. Her donor didn’t exactly die. Instead he stayed behind to both of their confusion and can only be seen by Ellie. Ellie is unable to make friends at school and her only confidant is her heart donor, who she coincidentally nicknames Heart. After thinking she would always be socially challenged, she comes across someone who could change everything. Can this new someone help free Ellie and Heart from their bond? Or will new feelings arise that neither of them expected?
A unique story that reveals how friends can compliment and challenge each other told with fun sarcastic humor and heart.
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Heart Tales generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review**
Three delightful, short stories comprise Heart Tales. All three accurately portray two younger main characters. Each story, while short, is written well with interesting plot elements, the angst that comes from first love, and strong story lines.
The stories:
Audio Frequency:
This first story was my least favorite of the three but it still fun to read. Geraldine and Sam have been dancing around each other for a while at the music store in which Geraldine works. Sam is a local artist who works for a recording studio. Through mysterious lyric exchanges, Sam and Geraldine discover first love.
Legal U-Turn:
The second short story revolving around Dean and Gwen is my favorite one of the three. Told from Dean's POV we learn through his memories how he met and fell in love, unbeknownst to him, with Gwen. There banter is cute and friendly, their relationship culminating in an angsty demise only for Dean to find Gwen years later. I found I liked this one the best because I could myself really enjoying a full length novel about these characters. This short story would be an excellent YA pre-cursor to a good, angst filled NA novel.
Heart Set on You:
Heart Set on You surprised me. It deals with paranormal subject matter which I'm not usually that into. At first, I was questioning whether I should read it because it's not my bag. However, I kept reading and actually really, really liked it. The author drew me in and made me fall for these characters. Ellie & Heart have an unconventional relationship to say the least. When Ellie meets Seth their lives begin to rapidly change. The short story deals with a lot of teenage angst themes. Important lessons to learn including the art of letting go someone you've held so close. The story is told through Ellie's POV and I really enjoyed it.
All three short stories provide a quick escape into three separate worlds where the characters are finding love and reconciling their new, foreign feelings. It was an enjoyable way to spend and hour and a half.

Book Review: Carter Reed
Carter Reed by Tijan: Emma decided to skip the gym and went home early. It was the last easy decision she made because she found her roommate being raped by the boyfriend. She had two choices. Call the cops and be killed by his family’s mafia connections or kill him first and hope to survive. There was no choice to her. She killed the bastard first and went to the one person who could protect her. Carter Reed. He’s a weapon for the rivaling mafia family, but he’s also Emma’s secret. Not only was he best friends with her brother, but she’s the reason he became that weapon in the first place.
Lori's thoughts: I wanted to like this book more than I did. I think the whole problem I had with it was because I just finished Crow's Row and Scare Crow a few days ago and this book had much the same story line. Not everything, but a lot. I liked Carter. I liked Emma. I enjoyed Tijan's writing. Perhaps if I had read it first, I would have rated it more stars. It's not that I disliked it, it was just okay for me.

Book Review: Love, In English
Love, In English by Karina Halle: He’s thirty-eight. I’m twenty-three.
He speaks Spanish. I speak English.
He lives in Spain. I live in Canada.
He dresses in thousand-dollar suits. I’m covered in tattoos.
He’s married and has a five-year old daughter. I’m single and can’t commit to anyone or anything.
Until now.Because when they say you can’t choose who you fall in love with, boy ain’t that the f*#king truth.
***
To a restless dreamer like Vera Miles, it sounded like the experience of a lifetime. Instead of spending her summer interning for her astronomy major, she would fly to Spain where she’d spend a few weeks teaching conversational English to businessmen and women, all while enjoying free room and board at an isolated resort. But while Vera expected to get a tan, meet new people and stuff herself with wine and paella, she never expected to fall in love.
Mateo Casalles is unlike anyone Vera has ever known, let alone anyone she’s usually attracted to. While Vera is a pierced and tatted free spirit with a love for music and freedom, Mateo is a successful businessman from Madrid, all sharp suits and cocky Latino charm. Yet, as the weeks go on, the two grow increasingly close and their relationship changes from purely platonic to something…more.
Something that makes Vera feel alive for the first time.
Something that can never, ever be.
Or so she thinks.
Lori's thoughts: This is one of the best books I've ever read. Bar none. The writing was superb. The story line was different, unique. The characters were vivid, real, and sometimes flawed. The chemistry was sizzling. In many way, as an author myself, this books humbles me. It makes me want to bow down to Karina Halle and confess: I am not worthy. She writes in a way I aspire to and she makes me wonder if anyone will ever read my words and be touched the way I have been touched by this book.
I felt the raw emotion. At one point, late in the book, my stomach clenched and I felt the pain Vera was feeling. Yes, I realize that it is about a man who cheats on his wife, and there are people out there who will be appalled by this. To you, I say, get the eff over it. It happens, and unless you're living under a rock, it happens all the time and probably touches a lot closer to home than you would like to admit. It's never good, someone always gets hurt, but it's a fact of life and proof that the heart knows what the heart wants.
I loved this book, and it will be hard to find something as good in comparison to read for a long time. Ms. Halle, you have ruined me. :) But thank you!

SynopsisDeath.
For some, it’s simply one of life’s certainties, nothing more. For others, it’s merely a fleeting thought, one often overshadowed by the reckless delusion that they have been blessed with the gift of immortality.
For Aubrey Miller, death is the definition of her very existence. Overcome with the guilt resulting from the loss of her beloved family, she alters her appearance from the once beautiful, blonde-haired, blue-eyed little girl to that of one shrouded in complete darkness, enveloping herself in her own unbreakable fortress of solitude as a form of protection for others.
As she enters her first year of college, her goal is simple: Earn a degree with the least amount of social interaction as possible. What she never anticipates is the formation of very unlikely relationships with two people who will change her life in ways she never believed possible: Quinn Matthews, the boisterous former pageant queen, and Kaeleb McMadden, a childhood friend from her past who never really let her go.
Over the years, as their connections intertwine and grow, a seemingly indestructible bond is formed between the three…
But when death painfully reemerges, Aubrey is lost once again, burying herself deeper than ever before inside the familiar fortification of her fears.
Will the refuge of friendship, the solidarity of life-long bonds, and the power of unconditional love be enough to do the impossible?

Excerpt“Thank you so much, Quinn. This day has been…unbelievable. And I owe it all to you. You have no idea.” My voice trembles a bit with the admission, because she really has no idea what she’s done for me today.
I feel normal.
A normal girl, about to have a normal birthday celebration with her friends, in a normal (albeit spectacular) dress, with normal hair and make-up.
The only thing that’s missing is a pair of normal shoes.
“Shoes! I need shoes!” I exclaim.
“No, you don’t.” Quinn giggles and reaches for the knob of my bedroom door.
“What? Why wouldn’t I need shoes?”
That makes no sense.
She’s drunker than I thought.
That’s it, I’m officially hiding the champagne.
“You’ll see,” she says just as there’s a knock at the front door.
She winks. “Trust me. Just, stay in here. Don’t come out until someone comes to get you.”
After Quinn quietly shuts the door behind her, I remain seated. As the sounds of Kaeleb’s murmur filters into my room, a nervous excitement flitters through my belly and spreads into my chest. My joy takes flight and I breathe in deeply, contentment pumping enthusiastically with each thrumming heartbeat.
Damn, it feels good to be alive.
I don’t have to wait for long. After a very loud squeal from Quinn in the other room, there’s a knock at my door. My pulse kicks up and I rise from the bed, smoothing out my dress. With a glance in the mirror, I pluck a couple of sections of my new hair with my fingers and set them back into place. “Come in,” I remark, turning in the direction of the door.
The handle turns and as Kaeleb pokes his head around the corner, his eyes find mine. His eyebrows rise as his mouth falls slightly open, and he breaks my gaze as his focus shifts to take in my hair, my exposed neck and the line of my dress. He holds his stare briefly at the crystalline sash lining my waist, and then slowly drifts down to my smoothly-shaven legs and perfectly painted toenails. The left side of his mouth quirks up as he clears his throat, frozen in place. He tears his scrutiny away from my feet to fully step into the room, then turns away from me to shut the door.
I take advantage of the 1.5 seconds his back is turned, and survey him from head to toe. His light-blue button-up is folded to his elbows, displaying the prominence of the flexed muscles along his forearms. As he places both palms on the door and leans into them, his shirt rides up enough for me to see the designs on the back pockets of his dark jeans. They hug his ass perfectly, and for the first time in my life, I want to slide my hands right into those pockets just to feel the hardness of his toned body.
My fingers itch with the need to touch him, but I maintain control while Kaeleb braces against the door, inhaling and exhaling deeply. He stays planted there for a few more seconds until I suddenly begin to feel self-conscious. I run my hands over my hair and dress to make sure everything is as it should be.
Just as I start to ask him if he’s all right, he whips around with a full smile on his face. A few long strides later, and he’s standing right in front of me. Raising both hands, he traces the tips of his fingers along the sides of my cheeks, leaving a scorching trail as they run down my neck and thread themselves into the hair at my nape. With his thumbs underneath my chin, he tilts my head back and looks me directly in the eyes.
“You look amazing, Sunshine. Truly breathtaking.” His head dips slightly and he runs his lips tentatively along mine, the movement so sensual I can’t keep my hands off of him any longer. Fisting his shirt in my hands, I pull him into me and press my mouth hard against his, the need to taste him overriding my caution. A whimper rises in my throat and escapes into his mouth as his tongue slides in between my lips, slowly and deliberately, taking his time to stroke and caress mine. His hold tightens as his fingers curl deeper into my hair, the tinge of pain sending shockwaves of pleasure coursing through my body until they land right in between my legs, the throbbing sensation growing with each strike.
After another gentle sweep of his tongue, he lessens the kiss and pulls back slightly. His lips brush against mine before they slide over to the corner of my mouth, up along my cheek, and then rest them against my ear as he breathes, “Happy birthday. The dress is phenomenal.”

Excerpt
An inexplicable shiver rolls through my shoulders. The low murmur of my friends and the other patrons at Rusty’s falls away.
Harris.
He’s the only person who elicits this type of bodily response. I remain rigid and unmoving except for my sweaty palms which I place on my thighs.
“Luke, my man! How are you?” A strong hand slaps Luke’s shoulder.
“Matt, hey.” His worried expression eases into a cheerful one when he shakes hands with a man wearing a large, black boot cast. Next to Matt is the beautiful, caramel-haired woman, Jane, who was with Harris in his convertible.
And then it’s him.
Harris’ masculine scent surrounds me. He braces his arms on the back of my chair, overwhelming me with his physical presence. I’m swirling in a sea of Harris, unable to resist his pull. He dips closer and then his lips brush oh so gently against my flushed cheek. The intimate contact sends my heart into overdrive.
“Hello, Edith,” he murmurs against my skin before pulling away.
I nearly swoon against the wood chair. Damn.
