Can one true thing save a love built on lies? Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000026_00021]
Synopsis

“That was all before…” Jolene waves her hand in the air, but we both know what she means. Before I touched her in the most intimate places. Before I felt her shudder under my tongue. Before she tasted the salt on my skin. Before I promised a lot more than I could deliver.

Ty Branch has wanted one thing his entire life—to play professional baseball. When he gets a chance to move from San Francisco to play at Texas powerhouse Garvin State University, he's willing to do whatever it takes to make his dream come true, even if that means hiding his past. But when he meets dance major Jolene Taylor, the chemistry is so strong his single-minded quest begins to weaken. As he gets to know her quirky, small-town family, he falls more deeply

in love, but becomes even more sure he can never tell her the truth about his family. When a surprise visitor blows his past wide-open, Ty is forced to come to terms with his secrets. But is the damage already done with Jolene or can he find a way to sacrifice everything he's worked for in order to win back the heart of a once-in-a-lifetime love?

Excerpt “Thank you,” Jolene says, as I hold the door open for her, the soft Texas twang in her voice making my heart beat faster as she brushes by me, her dark brown eyes fixed on the ground. Jolene Taylor. Dance major, sophomore, comes from somewhere outside of Abeline—way outside according to Jessie, one of those towns that has only four stoplights and a Dairy Queen with a sign that congratulates the FFA on their livestock win.

“No problem,” I reply, following her through the door. We approach the stairs to the second floor together, but I slow my pace so that she can get ahead of me, hoping that I don’t look like a stalker and that she doesn’t notice that I’m sneaking looks at her ass as she walks up the steps. And it is a perfect little ass. Jolene has a way of moving that’s more like gliding than actual walking, her feet turned out just slightly in that way that dancers have. She’s wearing baggy sweats that sit at the place where the two dimples on her lower back meet her spine and a workout top holding her small, perky breasts that leaves little to the imagination. I can see the muscles in her back move as she walks and that turns me on more than anything, so I shift my eyes up to the expanse of bare skin on the back of her neck, covered by a few dark tendrils of hair that escape from the messy bun on top of her head. Even at her messiest, Jolene is perfection. But I can’t talk to her, there’s no point. There’s too much I’d have to say, too much I’d have to give up to make it real.

I want her to look back as I approach the door to my apartment, nosily fumbling for the keys to try to get her attention, but she stares straight ahead, her back tall and her thin, muscled arms gripping the laundry basket as she heads for her apartment at the end of the hall. I sigh as I take one last look at her and swing my apartment door open. Gotta keep my eyes on the prize. Jolene Taylor is just one more thing I shouldn’t be messing with this year.

SynopsisBrand new stories with the characters you love from THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL

She's jinxed when it comes to relationships.

That's what Hope believes as she ends yet another engagement. She jumps at the chance to travel to Australia for a fashion shoot – even if that means getting up close and very personal with former flame, Oliver.

For Oliver, a sailing trip in a tropical paradise is the opportunity to convince the woman he's always loved to give him a second chance.

But when Hope and Oliver are caught in a storm and stranded on a desert island, they are soon battling the elements, and their passion for each other.

ExcerptOh, that was bad. That was—that was torture. As soon as the words fell from her mouth she knew he’d be hurt by them. She didn’t want to hurt Ollie—he was her friend. She’d known he still had a thing for her, but had tried not to encourage it.

What woman in her right mind would turn down Oliver Jones? Argh. Could she feel any more awkward than she did in this very moment?

She collapsed back on her bed, groaning with frustration. Why couldn’t he just keep things casual? Why did he have to go and ruin it by kissing her proverbial socks off and making her want more?

And what did that say about her? She’d left two guys fighting over her back in LA, and now she had rebuffed Oliver, too. She was behaving just like her mother.

She squeezed her eyes shut. Anything but that. She’d had to live down her mother’s many indiscretions, had tried to set a new standard, determined to break the mold. She wasn’t a femme fatale. She rolled her eyes. Not even close.

She shuddered. The feel of his lips against hers, his arms around her—it was as though she was seventeen again, feeling wild exuberance over a mere kiss. She shook her head. She couldn’t even begin to imagine what it might be like to make love with Oliver Jones. They had kissed many times, but had never made that final commitment.

She was still attracted to him. Images of Oliver, half-naked and wet, half-naked and aroused—by her—flooded her brain. Her nipples peaked in her bra, as though craving his touch, and she hugged herself.

This attraction to Oliver had to stop. She’d found him appealing from the moment they’d met, but had become supremely aware of him during this trip. This business trip. She had to remind herself of that. They were business associates and friends—although she wasn’t sure if the latter still applied. Fear and dismay flared within her. She hoped they were still friends. Oliver was—well, he was special. He’d been her first love. She remembered those lazy days when they’d hung out over summer, when her biggest problem was deciding which college to attend. She sighed as she rolled over and drew her knees up.

They were friends. Friends didn’t go around kissing each other like—well, like he’d kissed her. Sure, she’d enjoyed it—way too much, if she was honest with herself. But as she’d told him, there could never be anything more between them. He’d hurt her, deeply. The pain, the humiliation, the horror—her life had become a circus. She sighed. Okay, so being Brooke Logan’s daughter was a circus all on its own, but Oliver’s mistaken tryst with her mother was her first real experience of being at the center of a media storm. It had been hell.

And now he wanted to try and resuscitate that dead horse? She just wanted a contented life with a one-woman man—was that seriously too much to ask for? Oliver had been unfaithful, albeit unknowingly. And she’d had to share Liam with another woman for far too long, and Wyatt? Well, Wyatt definitely had a single-minded focus, but she wasn’t sure if his intense attention was because he wanted to be with her, or because he was trying to prove something to his father and half-brother.

She was jinxed when it came to relationships. She’d proven that over and over again. She didn’t trust her heart, or her head, when it came to men.

But she didn’t want to lose Oliver.

She bit her lip as she glanced at the wall of her cabin. She’d pretty much told him to move on. Oh, gosh. What if he did? She squeezed her eyes shut as an unfamiliar feeling of dread gripped her gut. He was an attractive guy. Smart, with a great sense of humor. Despite their past, she really did want him to be happy. She couldn’t deny, though, that on some level she still wanted his attention, his affection. His desire. But he needed more than she was prepared to give.

If he did find happiness with another woman, what then? After tonight, she wasn’t sure what she wanted. He could still arouse her with one kiss, one heated look.

But he could still hurt her, too.

She hoped, prayed, that tomorrow everything would be back to normal. Oliver would joke around with her, make her laugh, be that strong shoulder to cry on when she needed it. Be the man she wanted, just without the emotional entanglement. She took a deep breath. Tomorrow they’d act like nothing had happened.

Excerpt:

“Yes, good point, but still. No, I am not making this up. He was completely real. And gorgeous and that accent.” I had that tingle again just remembering.

“You’re talking about the dad, right?” It took me a second to realize what she said.

I smacked her on the arm. “Ew, pervert. Yes, the dad. I wish I could have gotten his name. If only the stupid nanny hadn’t filled out the form. Then he would have had to print his name and I would know what it is.”

“Well, another part of our job as writers is to know things. And if we don’t know them, how to find them.” She ran to her computer and started typing like a madwoman.

“No, Raine. No. We swore we would only use your powers in extreme emergencies.”

She didn’t look up at me.

“There’s a cute guy involved. That qualifies this as an emergency.”

Book: Out of ReachAuthor: Missy Johnson

Event Organized by: Indie Sage, LLC

Synopsis:

Andy and I had been best friends since we were eight-years old. Watching him slowly fade away, ever closer to his final breath, made me so incredibly angry. I knew there was nothing I could do to change it–I had given in to despair, but Andy had not. He had one last hand to play. He wasn’t going to simply sit back and wait for Death to claim him–not Andy. He was going to live life until he couldn’t hold his eyes open any longer.

Andy didn’t want to die in some sterile hospital and asked me to take him and Emily to the beach. It would be our last road trip together.

Emily. Emily was a problem for me. I harbored a secret that would have torn our friendship apart. I was in love with Andy’s girl, and had been since she’d walked into our sixth grade class, so many years ago.

So what kind of person am I? My best friend is dying, and it’s awful–but my heart still aches for his girl. I hate myself for thinking beyond Andy’s death and whether there could ever be a future for Emily and I, but I can’t help it. I love her.

Book Review: Lick

Lick (Stage Dive #1) by Kylie Scott: Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas's plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man in her room, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is certain, being married to one of the hottest rock stars on the planet is sure to be a wild ride.
Rosie's thoughts: This is a book I have been meaning to read for a while. And oh boy, am I glad that I did! Lick has everything a good book needs, as far as I'm concerned: Romance, angst, and vulnerability. The two main characters, Evelyn and David, were as the book said, better together. They got married in Vegas after only a few hours together. David remembers everything about their wedding night, but Evelyn only remembers snippets. This causes problems from the beginning. This proves David's love for Evelyn. They decide to give love a chance and have to learn to trust each other despite their very different lifestyles. Including meddling exes, as well as drug and alcohol issues.

Lick includes some hot sex scenes, but these add to the story rather than being their for dramatic effect. In addition to the two main characters, we met all the members of the band -- which made me definitely want to buy the next in the series straight away!

Book Review: Pushing Boundaries

Pushing Boundaries (Fighting Love Book #2) by Kali Cross: The exciting conclusion to Pushing Limits (Fighting Love Book 1)

New town? New life? Yeah, none of it was easy for Amber Turner, but meeting Tommy Bolt changed that. He healed the old wounds and made this callous, sarcastic girl believe in love again. Believe that she could be loved for something more than just a prop or a mirror image of someone else. That she could be seen, really seen, and loved despite her flaws. But one stupid mistake and one huge misunderstanding left her heart broken into tiny shards of glass. After weeks of waiting to hear from Tommy, she texts Tommy asking him to let her explain.

She got nothing. Crickets. Nada.

Not one text or even a simple phone call telling her they were done. Who does that?

After weeks of moping, her friends try to lift her spirits and help her to move on, but she still struggles with the memory of him. That boyish smile complete with dimples that come out to play, his hard body, the way he could make her body sing, and his sparkling sapphire eyes. Nothing about Tommy is easily forgotten. Amber is confronted with new choices as some old secrets come back to haunt her, threatening to destroy everything she ever believed about herself.
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Pushing Boundaries graciously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.**

Pushing Boundaries gives us the continuation of Amber Turner and Tommy Bolt's enticing story. After reading book one, Pushing Limits, I was enthralled by the storyline. This book however fell a little short for me compared to the first.

The two main characters here are as fierce as ever. I love Amber's bold attitude, even when she questions herself it doesn't last long. Through the love her friends, Aunt Patty, and especially Tommy she really embraces herself and what she wants. Tommy, too, becomes this very bold character through Amber. They complement each other so well and their characters really stand out. The secondary cast especially Sally and Aunt Patty are great additions as well as Tommy's family. Everyone is charismatic, accepting, and gracious.

Where the book fell short for me was in the plot. The first half of the book focuses on Amber and Tommy reconciling and discovering themselves through each other. They know they want each other and where their story takes us works so well. Everything these two decided on felt real and fresh to me. "When you know, you know" kind of thing happening with them and it worked because of the developments we find out about their past and how they want to proceed with the future. However, in the second half of the book after around 40% or so, the plot goes a bit haywire for me. There are so many subplots working with secondary characters plus the events going on with the main characters it all became really rushed and jumbled because of the quickness of those plots happening. Focusing one or two of those would have made for better development.

Overall, it's an enticing series. Amber's character especially really grabs you from the beginning. Hold on tight because she's taking you for quite the journey. The fierceness radiating from her allows you to fall for her and believe in her character. All of the characters really. The open honesty and love from all of them remains something to be cherished. They're an outgoing group. It's a good read and I'd recommend it, especially since I liked the first book so much.

Book Review: Infinity

Infinity. (Infinity #4) by Layne Harper: Colin McKinney has wanted three things since he met Caroline “Charlie” Collins when he was a junior at Texas A&M University: to make her his wife, play professional football, and have a family. In the first three books of the Infinity Series, Colin and Charlie met, fell in love, broke apart, reunited eight years later, and got married. In the years they were separated, Colin became the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, but was still chasing his Super Bowl dream. Charlie graduated from Harvard Medical School, fulfilling her dream of becoming a doctor. In “Infinity.”, Charlie and Colin are facing their toughest challenge as a couple yet—finding the balance between their personal lives and career goals. Both are still fighting to have it all. In the final installment of the Infinity Series, will Colin get everything that he’s always dreamt of? And do Colin and Charlie ultimately find their happiness?

This book is part of the Infinity Series available on Amazon. The reading order is “Falling Into Infinity”, “From Now Until Infinity”, “Finding Infinity”, and "Infinity."
TeriLyn's thoughts: **Infinity graciously provided by author in exchange for an honest review**

Layne Harper expertly showed us two people whose need for each other bases on instinct, their love infectious and undeniable. Infinity concludes Ms. Harper’s Infinity Series by giving us an honest portrayal of the life these two signed for, remaining completely true to her characters. She’s woven their tale through the trials and tribulations of normal relationships but accelerated it to include a life of celebrity and status. The result of this journey in the words of Colin Fucking McKinney proves to be “pure fucking magic”.

Colin and Charlie survived a lot of heartache in their sordid relationship. Ms. Harper writes with an angsty edge that borders on maddening. She started off this story so brightly. Then what Charlie and Colin do best happens – they analyze to the nth degree, they get way inside their own heads, and they eventually combust. And I love every anxious, gripping bit of it. These characters endeared themselves to my heart from the beginning and continued to do so throughout the series. Ms. Harper takes us on this journey where the outcome is predictable but the way in which she reaches that outcome is pleasantly unexpected. There are twists, turns, and discoveries in their relationship to intrigue us into wanting more until the very last word. Charlie and Colin both show us their vulnerabilities and their strengths. Colin especially, in my opinion, goes through some painful times in this book. He craves control. When the delicate balance in their lives starts shifting Colin begins spiraling. His mind trips and falls over questions that he can’t answer. These moments are when we see him as mere mortal and not the superman he tries to emulate. Charlie as well, she has sacrificed a lot in her life to present in this relationship. It’s a vital connection she needs in her life. Her selfishness, as Colin sees it, comes from a place she’s buried. They struggle and cope and learn. Seeing them in the new roles they’ve chosen for themselves made me so happy. It’s satisfying and peaceful to know that characters you’ve come to adore make some dreams come true for themselves. The sweetness when these two are together is definitely pure magic. The connection Ms. Harper has created with these two characters is electric, you can never deny they're meant to be together. The purity of Charlie and Colin’s love cannot ever be questioned – it’s all the outside influence that taints them.

As sad as I am that this is the last of Charlie and Colin, I really enjoyed reading the conclusion to their journey together. The way it ended was peaceful and fitting for the turbulent ride they’ve endured over the course of four books. I adore these characters and their story. Ms. Harper’s writing and plots completely sucked me in from the beginning, they’ve matured greatly – the characters becoming much more and I’m so glad to have been a part of their story. I sincerely hope that Jack Collins getting the last laugh means what I think it means for the future.

Book Review: On the Floor

On the Floor (Second Story #1) by Jennifer LaCross: Who knew that working together and living on the same floor with the guy of my dreams would be so hard?
Well, everyone.

Rachel Harris has been closed off since high school, when her mother passed away. Worrying about her family has made her own happiness her second priority.
Jake Price has had family issues of his own, leaving him incapable of having anything more than a physical relationship.
When Rachel meets Jake on the dance floor, sparks fly. Fires burn. Their worlds change.
And then he walks away with no more than a thank you...
Through a twist of fate, they are brought back together when Jake shows up the next day as Rachel’s new co-worker. They reluctantly decide to put aside their attraction for each other so they can work as friends.
But when that attraction becomes something more, will Rachel and Jake be able to figure out how to work together, be together, and open up to each other? Or will their old issues be something that destroys everything they have built?

This is the first book in the series about the members of the band, Second Story.
Some of the material in On the Floor may be considered inappropriate for readers under 17.
TeriLyn's thoughts: **On the Floor generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review**

On the Floor is the first book in the Second Story series that provides an entertaining, light, flirty, fun story. There was no a lot of angst or depth to the main characters. While their sad pasts led them to where they are now, I didn’t feel so connected to these characters. It’s a New Adult read taking place in the college era of Jake and Rachel, told from mainly Rachel’s POV. The two main characters start work together in the dormitory in which they are staying. Stories in which the main characters build strong friendships and camaraderie before a relationship always work in certain ways for me and On the Floor is no exception. The playfulness and banter works well between Rachel and Jake. Jake’s in a band in addition to his college life and another bandmate Nate takes in interest in Rachel before anyone realizes Nate is Nate from Jake’s band. It sets up some tension for Jake to make his feelings known. I wish there had been a bit more development of the band aspect. The actual relationship between the two is where the story gets fuzzy for me. They were so juvenile in my opinion, I couldn’t imagine that the two, given what they’re pasts were, could be in college. Something about the way they interacted with each other just didn’t work for me. It felt too junior high at times. The conflict the two of them face was the turnaround for me where they started to act more maturely towards what they both wanted. And the chemistry and passion for each other worked so they grew on me throughout the story. Nate and Rachel’s friend, Jenna, had a burgeoning friendship and I think their story will be next. The story is well written and flows nicely it was just the character development that through me at times. I’m definitely intrigued enough to want to know Rachel and Nate’s story and even the rest of the band members.
