Book Review: Out of Mind

Out of Mind (Out of Line #3) by Jen McLaughlin, Diane Alberts: Reaching for sunlight...

Finn survived the ambush and came home to me, but in his head, the battle is still raging. He’s falling apart and I’m trying my best to pick up the pieces of him, to find the us we used to be. I love him as much as I ever did, but love isn’t enough to fix this. I thought telling my father about our relationship would be the hardest thing we’d ever have to face. I was wrong.

Lost in shadows...

All I wanted was to be worthy of Carrie. One mission, just one, and I’d be able to give her the future she deserved. Then everything went wrong, leaving me tainted and broken. Carrie wants me to be who I was, but all that’s left is what they made of me. I’m no good for her. No good for anyone like this. I have to figure out how to move forward. Alone.

Sometimes love isn’t enough…
Rosie's thoughts: Well what can I say except AMAZING. This book was certainly worth waiting for. This is the final book in a trilogy about two characters Carrie and Finn. In this book they have eventually told Carrie's dad (who is a Senator) about their relationship. Finn was meant to be Carrie's bodyguard and she was meant to be out of Finn's reach. However, "What the heart wants the heart gets".

Finn has returned from war injured and had watched whilst all of his men died around him. He has PTST which the author deals with, with respect and sensitivity. Finn turns to drink and prescription drugs to get him through and pushes away his one true love Carrie.

I love the strength of Finn but also am amazed by the strength of the heroine. She proves that whatever your background you can be an independent, hardworking female with the strength to get through anything.

I completed this book in one sitting even though I tried to read slowly so as not to finish one of my favourite books ever. Finn is definitely now one of my BBF'S! Although the Finn and Carrie storyline has come to an end. I was delighted to read that some of the other characters in the book will be given their own storylines. Thank you for an amazing series Jen McLaughlin.

Release Event: Something Missing

Release Blitz for "Something Missing" by Hazel Robinson HTML code

TITLE: Something Missing (Book one of the True Love Series)AUTHOR: Hazel RobinsonRELEASE DATE: May 1st 2014AUDIENCE: Adult THEME: Romance, Life, Coming of AgePUBLISHER: Little Bird Publishing House
Synopsis When Susan is left orphaned, she begins a harrowing journey through the care system. Left with both mental and physical scars, Susan approaches adulthood with a self-destructive impulse. However, there is hope in the figure of her childhood friend, Max; the first boy she ever  kissed.
Now a grown woman, Susan returns to her childhood home of Winchelsea, where she hopes she will find the answer to the gap in her heart that she’s carried with her since she left. With Max by her side, she attempts to find the path her life should have taken, to build a home, to heal old wounds, and to finally create a family that will stop the terrible feeling of something missing.
But Max has a secret, one that risks destroying all hope of a happy ever after, unless they can find a way to heal one another.

Excerpt Instead of heading back to the house she went to the beach. She’d spent a lot of time wishing to walk on it again; it held so many happy memories for her. As she walked along the shore, she watched the sun setting in the distance. She thought back to the night she had discovered she had to leave. The memory was painful and she felt a tear slip down her cheek. No one could have imagined what would happen to her when she left, and no one could have stopped it. Not really. Feeling in need of that drink, she turned in the direction of home. That’s when she saw him. Butterflies fluttered in her stomach as the tall, dark-haired man walk towards her. Max had seen Susan a few times over the weekend, and he had desperately wanted to go over and say something to her, but he hadn’t known what to say. When she’d walked past the garage earlier, he almost plucked up enough courage, but something had stopped him. She looked amazing, way out of his league, but he plucked up the courage now there really was no way of avoiding her.  “Hello!” he said, smiling awkwardly, and stuffing his hands deep into his pockets.

Author Bio I've always had a passion for reading but over the last several years it has become an obsession, a few months ago I decided to put fingers to keys to keyboard (or pen to paper!) and write "Something Missing" a story I’ve had hidden away in the back of my mind for a long time.
Hazel lives in the small town of Rishton in Lancashire. England, with her husband, three children, two cats, dog, rabbit and lizard. She fills her days dashing between school runs, pets and housework and at night she comes to life either writing or watching her favorite program ‘Supernatural’ (yes she is Supernatural obsessed)Her road to writing started with a love for paranormal romance novels, and after finding a passion for tragic romance she set out on the mission to share her own story. After long nights writing and a lot of ‘Supernatural’ episodes she is finally ready to share ‘Something Missing’. Hazel loves nothing better than sitting with a cup of tea, a chocolate biscuit and a good book.

Book Review: Block 24

Block 24 by Evan Tyler: A re-emergence of the past…

Natalie Clarke might be spiteful at best and vicious at worst, but was that reason enough for Phillip Gise to leave her lonely and diseased? Fortunately, she has a set of devious plans that just might keep her busy enough to forget her present situation.

Guy Lewis has played Best Friend Extraordinaire to Natalie since grade school, supporting her through all of her daily drama. This time around, Guy runs into his own troubles when his fierce, wealthy manager gives him the type of attention he never asked for…or expected.

Julia Clarke, Natalie’s younger sister, has arrived in Brooklyn to uncover their grandmother’s secret life in Block 24, the site of Auschwitz’s little-known brothel. What Julia discovers proves more relevant in the present age than ever before.

Both heady and sobering, Block 24 is a look at the ways evil from the past can so insidiously visit the present.
Lori's thoughts: This book is one that makes you think. It's not always pretty. It's often graphically real, and disturbingly vivid. But, really, isn't that the way life truly is at times? It took me a minute to get into the story, and that's the only reason I gave the book four hearts instead of five. Once I got into the rhythm of the writing and started to untangle the intricate webs of past and present and how life has a way of repeating itself, I had a hard time putting the book down.

This is a love story set in the past. The tragic love story between a young Jewish girl and a member of the SS during World War II. This is a love story set in the present between selfish, spiteful Natalie Clarke and Phillip Gise. I'm not going to give anymore details -- no spoilers. Read the book!

TRIPP (My Way Series #2)SYNOPSIS:
Lacey’s Story…
Covering up pain is easy. It’s keeping it tucked away that’s hard. I’ve always needed the cover of tattoos to hide the nasty past that leached its way into me, tainting me beneath my skin.
Not the shiny, trendy tats, but the ugly broken kind, meant to keep the world at bay. If they weren’t enough, then my piercings, foul mouth and crazy hair usually did the trick. Life had taught me to never follow the rules, because when you do, you get burned.
My life was perfectly imperfect until Tripp…
Our relationship is what most would describe as fuel meeting fire. We were both hell bent on burning each other to the ground. Tripp was sexy as hell, a charismatic beast, and soon became one of my best friends. We shared a love of ice cream and tattoos as we blazed our own path that could only lead to a beautiful train wreck.
The only question left is, will we set the countryside ablaze with our hot tempers and foul mouths? Or will we paint our own happy ending filled with all the gushy shit normal people crave?

Book Review: Love's Suicide

Love's Suicide by Jennifer Foor: My heart belonged to Branch and Brooks Valentine since we were children, when we were all too naïve to know what that even meant. We didn’t understand that when we became adults, love would change us. I had to make a choice and when I did, it ripped our bond apart. Brooks left town, and he took half of my heart with him. It was difficult, but I coped and planned my future with Branch. I thought I’d made the right decision. I loved him and I always had.

Brooks showed up to be our best man the night before our nuptials. After drinks and too much reminiscing, I ended up in bed with the wrong brother. To avoid the humiliation and the fact that I’d ruined all of our lives, I left Branch and the only family I’d ever known.
That’s where my story should have ended.

Almost three years, one beautiful little girl and an abusive marriage later, I was standing there staring at the man that would always hold my heart.
The only question was…
Would I give it to him?
I’m Katy Michaels and this is my story.
Rosie's thoughts: Jennifer Foor has done it again, produced yet another brilliant story.

In Love's Suicide some really difficult subjects are covered such as domestic violence and the tragedy of 9/11. However, the author covers these with compassion and empathy.

Love's Suicide shows us how falling in love isn't always easy or straightforward. The heroine, Katey loves the Valentine twins from the day they met as babies. She always has a particularly special bond with the twin Brooks but due to a lack of communication she ends up engaged to Branch the other twin. The night before she was due to marry Branch she spends the night with Brooks. The next day she feels so guilty that she feels like she has to run away. On their night together Brooks and Katey made their baby girl 'B'.
Katey makes some bad decisions along her way. She keeps 'B' a secret from her family, allows an abusive man to marry her despite not being able to give him her heart.

These mistakes results in a lot of twists and turns in the story. Unfortunately her mistakes make me unable to connect fully to her character and I wish she would correct these mistakes sooner than she does!

This story shows us how fate and miscommunication can result in angst, sadness and time wasted.

I loved the character of Brooks and loved imagining him protecting Katey whilst wearing his army fatigues. When allowed he develops an amazing relationship with his daughter 'B' calling her 'Bug'. This is just so cute.
Overall I loved the storytelling and character development that Jennifer Foor always excels in.
