Guardians of the Galaxy: The gift that keeps on giving
I’ve not even bothered to write an “Almost Review” for Guardians of the Galaxy, because there is nothing I can say that will do justice to the awesomeness of the movie!

AWESOME! Thanks for asking
So, in brief: Hubster and I have discussed the possibility of it being Marvel’s best film to date. We both loved Cap 2, and obviously have a soft spot for Iron Man, but even after deciding it wasn’t fair to compare as they are all essentially different genres, we decided yes – GotG is Marvel’s best fil...

Short Story: Tweeter and the Space Monkey
Did the monkey’s teeth chatter? It wouldn’t be surprising, Tweeter thought. The temperature had dropped another 5 degrees in the last hour and the monkey didn’t have a standard all-weather coverall like she did.
Not that it was making much of a difference in these sub-zero temperatures. Snow was starting to build up on the right port holes, the ship still precariously perched on the snow-covered rock it had landed on. A nightmare planet, Tweeter reflected. It hadn’t been her plan to set down,...

Flashback Friday: That Merpeople painting
Someone pointed out to me a while back the oddness of the painting hanging in my bathroom. When I told them the history of it they found it odder still.
This is the painting.

Yup!
And this is the history –
I rescued this painting from my parents loft about 8 years ago. It had been relegated to the attic a few years before when mum had the living room redecorated. Until then it had hung on the wall above the big sofa – to be replaced by a cross stitch of a countryside scene. Mother had begun her t...

Flashback Friday: 20 Years Gone By (almost)
Recently on facebook I was invited to join a group organising a 20 year reunion for my old high school class. I resisted the urge to mention that it has so far only been 18 years since we graduated, but hey ho.
Ironically this happened around the same time I watched the 21 Jump Street movie for the first time. I couldn’t help but consider that if I were in high school now, I would have possibly been one of the popular kids. Instead I was bullied mercilessly pretty much the whole time. I did ma...

Flashback Friday: Notebooks
This week’s Flashback Friday post is from my novel website

In last week’s Flashback Friday post (a continuation from the regular feature on my blog), I touched on the fact that pre-computer me used to prolifically fill notebooks. This has got me thinking about the notebooks I have (which are currently piled on my desk) and how I miss writing in them.
Since the inclusionof the Smart Phone in my l...

Emma Frost: Why I’m Okay with her Costume
In the world of Marvel, especially in the wake of Marvel NOW!, the vast majority of female characters have been given a work appropriate make-over in the last few years. There’s a lot less exposed flesh, and more functional and practical costumes that are closer counterparts to those of the male characters.
That said, there has been one glaring omission – Emma Frost.

There is definitely a pattern here…
Personally, my first exposure to Emma Frost was the X-Men cartoon of the 90s, where she dresse...

Flashback Friday: The Torched Manuscript
Today’s Flashback Friday post comes from my novel website…
Originally posted on crea•ture/ˈkrēCHər/Noun - An animal, as distinct from a human being:
Between studying, travelling and later, working, it took me ten years over all to write About the Nature of the Creature, from conception to notes to final draft. During that time it existed in various formats on various devices and has been stored on paper and in note books, floppy disc, CD, google drive and eventually an externaldrive...

Why the time is right for a female-led Marvel Movie
I’m going to get straight to the point. The world is overdue a female centric comic hero movie.
There are plenty of nah-sayers out there that will say BUT! Supergirl sucked and Catwoman was the worst! Oh, right so we should never let a woman do anything again then right? Because, that’s how it works for men right. They do a sucky movie and so never do anymore of the same. Right? RIGHT!???!?!

Remember how awesome this movie was!!
No. So I’m going to throw that BS right in the bin and move on.
I’ve...

Live Tweet Review: Planet of the Apes (2001)
I am a huge fan of Planet of the Apes.

Apetastic!
As with Star Trek and Star Wars (as discussed), I grew up with the Apes movies and they were perhaps my earliest exposure to and fascination with the end of the world. I read the book many years back now and fell in love with that too. So much so in fact (as mentioned previously) I used to perform a Planet of the Apes burlesque routine.

An initial make-up trial for my routine. Never felt so right!>.<
Despite this, I have only ever seen Tim Burton’...

Live Tweet Reviews!
I don’t feel like I review as many movies and shows on my blog as I would really like to. Sure I’vedone “almost reviews” from impromptu cinema trips, but the truth is most of the time when I go to see a movie I really just want to sit there and let it wash over me, rather than worrying about jotting notes.

I am ready for the movie to commence!
With older movies I often dismiss reviewing them, as what new can I really add? Sure my reviews tend to spend half the time focusing on the racial and ge...
