Commenting on Commenting about Comments
You may have noticed that one of my go-to places for up to the minute and interesting genre news is Den of Geek.

Den of Geek
Of all the websites I have ever spent a large (and I mean large) amount of time perusing, it is one of my favourites. Not just because it is a great source of news and features, but also because it is a nice, friendly and supportive environment. Nowhere is this more true than their comments sections, especially in comparrison to such sections on many other websites.
Yes th...

FlashbackFriday: Heroes
With the news that we are to imminently expect a belated (and possibly unnecessary) follow up series, Heroes is back on the radar! Having recently rewatched all of Heroes on Netflix, I thought I’d write up my thoughts and feelings on the show. Not so much a review because of its breadth, but certainly a look at the good, the bad, and the confused?

So Claire, what was Season 3 all about?
Like everyone else, I thought season one of Heroes was pretty much amazing. The premise, taken at face value,...

Greek Body: Modern Mentality
My thoughts on the objectification of the male body…
I recently read The Greek Body, an interesting and beautiful book-come-catalogue of some of the British Museum’s collection of Greek statues from the Archaic through Hellenistic periods (read my review here). I was mostly stuck by the athletic male statues, where the elicited reaction from their contemporary viewers was to be one of adoration and aspiration.
These statues were the embodiment of arete – the qualities that add up to physical an...

FlashbackFriday: Personal – The End of Friendship
Along the crazy, unexpected and shambolic road that is our lives we meet people, we make friends and sometimes we lose friends. People that you were once so close to grow apart and you find the friendship is gone, or at the least it is not the bond you once had.Sometimes, unfortunately, you may lose a friend because of some sort of abrupt and bizarre drama. I’m sure it happens to us all, it certainlyhappened to me.
It’s actually something I don’t think about a lot, for three main reasons. Firs...

Personal: Zombies
This week I have had disturbing, zombified dreams and very little sleep. You must wonder, “what on earth is going on in your life that you are dreaming of such things?!”
I guess many writers and other creative bods must be like me, in that they dream epic, lucid and movie-like dreams (some of which have inspired creativity in the forms of art and writing). Like me then, some of you may realise that watching television before bed isn’t necessarily a good thing. Watching The Walking Dead before...

Personal: When World’s Collide!
You might have noticed from my blog so far that my biggest interests are comics, sci-fi, movies and feminism. As my blog continues you will see that two of my greatest interests are Archaeology/Classics/Ancient History and Burlesque/Cabaret.
As a bit of background – In 2005 I took my Masters in Greek Archaeology and History, specialising in Prehistoric Greece, Crete and the Cyclades, and Classical Sparta. In 2010 I started performing as a burlesque performer and since 2011 have produced my own...

FlashbackFriday
After having a Twitter account since 2009, I decided to actually start using it regularly. As such, I thought I would take a few tips from the idea of trending, and use #flashbackfriday as an inspiration to blog at least once a week (hopefully).
Here are the fewrules I am setting myself
FlashbackFriday posts can be about anything – personal memories, a review, a reblog, etc.
However, they have to be memories, reviews, etc of something that is at least three years old
My first FlashbackFriday post...

Review: Robocop (2014)
Although there are some movies that I avoid because I know I’m just not keen on the genre (torture flicks jump to mind), Itry not to judge anything before experiencing it myself. That said, I think we can all be forgiven for wondering whether a Robocop reboot was necessary and whether it would miss the satirical point of the original, described by producer Jon Davison as “fascism for liberals” – a politically liberal film done in the most violent way possible!
I wondered also how they would ha...

Justice League Movie? Want!!
A few weeks ago I posted about my thoughts on the inclusion of Wonder Woman in the still as yet unnamed Superman Vs Batman Movie that we had expected to see in 2015, but has now been pushed back to 2016.
After that post I actually stopped reading all the updates being thrown at me by the likes of SFX and Den of Geek. I was becoming exhausted by it all, and at the point where some...
