Seasonal Writing

Originally posted on crea•ture/ˈkrēCHər/Noun - An animal, as distinct from a human being:

I don’t think I will be alone in this, and welcome feedback, but my productivity on certain projects can often be affected by the season and weather.

In general I find I write more blog posts and less fiction in the warmer months, and during the Autumn, Winter and crisp early Spring, I am more inclined to write fiction – which is why you might notice the decline in posts of late. Personally I think this i...

Flashback Friday: Who Wants To Live Forever

I had meant to put this up last Friday, but life got in the way. Last week would have possibly made more sense as it would have been the week of the anniversary of the death of Freddie Mercury.

Growing up, my brother and I were obsessed with Freddie and Queen. We were both totally crushed when Freddie died and I know his death has definitely shaped aspects of my life – from writing my GSCE Sociology project on HIV in society to working for and fundraising for HIV/AIDS charities.

2011 was the 20...

Let Me Tell You A Story, Jack!

Originally posted on crea•ture/ˈkrēCHər/Noun - An animal, as distinct from a human being:

I’m ashamed to say that although it has been running for a year, last night was the first time I made it along to Let Me Tell You A Story, Jack – one of Bristol’s story telling nights than can be found at The Crofter’s Rights.

Storytelling ahoy!

Storytelling ahoy!

It was a fantastic evening with some really strong storytelling and live music (provided by Will Harding), though I may be bias as I actually ended up winning a pr...

Short Story: Running Home

Award Winning Short Story*

*winner of the “Lucky Escape” category at November’s Let Me Tell You A Story, Jack

Rated 15 for lots of fucking swearing.

I looked both ways before crossing the street. Mum had always made sure I did that when I was a little kid, but back then the main worry had been cars. I was ducked down behind a burned out bus, it stank of piss. The smell had been increasing over the last few weeks so I guess a tramp was living in there, or at the least...

Short Story: Strange Happenings at Chatsworth

A really strange thing happened at work today. Odd things often happen at Chatsworth Lodge, home for those with senility and related conditions. By odd I mean old men scaling the neighbours fence and escaping into the suburbs, people having clothes on backwards, and finding someone’s false teeth down the toilet bowl (every morning). So when I say really strange, I am talking something truly out of the ordinary, even for Chatsworth.

In the four years I’ve been working the night shift I’ve becom...

Reading Emotion

Last night was another fantastic night at Small Stories, though I had to leave early as I had been ill all weekend. I really enjoyed my first time at Small Stories back in April, and last month’s was very inspirational, but moreover it has been great networking and getting to know other local authors.

Short Story: Words (and the injuries they might cause)

As he finished the final line and set his writing back on the plinth, he looked at her with triumph, she saw. She knew she was expected to say something, give some response but instead she was silent.

“What did you think?” He finally asked, though the curves of his smile had begun to slowly drop at her hesitation.

She stood. Walked to the precipice and looked out upon the world. She sensed his impatience and his desire to be praised.

“You kill me.” She finally said, her tone cold and distant. He...

Short Story: Him

A new short story, not a Halloween story but arguably dark and a little haunting.

______________

My heart raced when I thought of him. I flushed, my skin burning. He occupied so many of my waking thoughts and I dreamt of him almost nightly. I remembered that tone to his voice that made me shiver. The feel of his hands on me. The longing I felt when I was with him. I had known from the moment we met that he would have a huge impact on my life.

I stood over him with the knife in my hand. I’d final...

Marvel Phase 3: To Infinity…

We knew there was a phase 3, we knew there were dates slated, but tonight we finally had the official announcement. Personally, whilst waiting, I jumped in the shower. When I got out and read my tweeter feed explosion I danced around the house naked. Carol Danvers is finally being born into the Marvel cinematic universe!

Given my recent posts urging Marvel to get on with a Captain Marvel movie, and my theories regarding the future of Agent’s of SHIELD and the possible inclusion of Inhumans, I...
