“The Face” excerpt from “Charmeine” the First Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”

The trip down US Interstate 80, across the George Washington Bridge through Manhattan was a long one. He growled in frustration and yelled, “I hate traffic!” He preferred driving only on Interstates. Then he chuckled at himself and said, “What do you expect in New York City? Should Mayor Bloomberg roll out a red carpet for you?” Tabbruis laughed out loud at himself as he negotiated the curves and spaces like a trained NASCAR driver, always using his built-in radar sensor to avoid being stopped by Police or hit by a taxi. Tabbruis grimaced when a taxi driver cut him off and hollered, “Good thing you are in a two ton piece of metal. I would like to rip your arm off and beat you with it!”
Tabbruis headed for the Ritz-Carlton in Battery Park which is the southern tip of the City. Tabbruis chuckled at the way everyone called Manhattan, ‘The City,’ like the other four boroughs were not part of New York City and yet the five boroughs had been consolidated since 1898.
Tabbruis arrived around the area where the Twin Towers used to be. He had stayed at the Ritz-Carlton many times before the Twin Towers went down. The area had changed very much without the majestic skyscrapers topping the landscape. He remembered the day during the attack, like other dark days in human history, his fever ran high. Tabbruis was anxious knowing something was not right in the world. Tabbruis was in Australia, in the least populated of the states, the Northern Territory, hunting big game.
On that day, 9/11, Tabbruis became erratic, unable to be calm or at peace. Feeling compelled to check the news; he headed for the Gulf of Carpentaria and went into the town of Cape Crawford, Australia. When Tabbruis, like the whole Earth, heard what happened in New York City that day, he was hit with a profound wave of grief.
A Blood-Hunter Tabbruis was, but the pure inhumanity of the act made him feel depressed about those helpless human victims and the futility of the senseless violence perpetrated upon them. Driving his Dodge Charger past the ominous site, Tabbruis thought maybe coming to America was not really a good idea after all. He felt tense and a strange foreboding sensation.

It was almost dawn, and Tabbruis wanted to rest. The Ritz-Carlton had an enormous Penthouse overlooking the New York Harbor. He enjoyed the view of the estuary and ocean. The ocean always had drawn him. When Tabbruis thought of the ocean, he began to calm down.
For several years Tabbruis was a sea voyager; however, a supply of blood was not readily available on the ocean. He could go for a long time without feeding, but if there was trouble on the sea with delays in weather or sickness, he did not want the temptation humans had for him.
The ocean was Tabbruis’ solitude, his rest bit, and the only peacefulness he ever experienced on Earth. Tabbruis appreciated the waves flowing in and out of the shore. He could watch them for hours smelling the ocean breeze of salt and water.
Tabbruis would have spent his whole life by the ocean if he could have, but big game was inside the continents. He had just driven from the mountains of Colorado. Big game was plentiful there. Driving toward the East Coast, big game was harder and harder to find.
Again, Tabbruis asked himself the question out loud hoping he would find the answer, “Why did I have to come here?”
Tabbruis pulled up to the Ritz-Carlton, got out of the car and straightened his clothes. The parking attendant handed him a ticket and took his car. Tabbruis walked into the Ritz-Carlton exhausted from the drive and the long night of agitation over the face.

“I will be your Guardian” …SPECIAL snippet from “CHARMEINE” the First Novel of “The Light-Bearer Series”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
18th century rendition of a guardian angel. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Charmeine was the Angel of Harmony in the 9th Choir of Angels, and her mission was to bring peace and accord in troubled times.
She was always daunted by such a great responsibility and never felt worthy. She believed loving her family was her only purpose, which she did fervently.
Tabbruis was the Angel of Self-Determination in the 4th Choir of Angels and presided over free will and inspired others with the ability to choose creative alternatives.
Tabbruis and Charmeine were each other’s yin and yang. She gave him tranquility and abiding love; he supported her with encouragement and strength.
Tabbruis closed his eyes in submission, realizing the fact their jobs were too important to abandon. He knew Heaven was facing a dark time and each Angel had their task to do.
Charmeine asked, “When can our family meet later Tabbruis?”
He said with a furrowed brow, “I do not know. My superior has me posted with an Archangel today in order to give him strength in his convictions.”
Surprised, Charmeine said, “Tabbruis, you will be so far way. Archangels are above the 1st Choir.” In the Choirs of Heaven, he was several choirs higher than Charmeine and usually worked with the upper Choirs of Angels, but rarely with an Archangel.
For a while, Charmeine had been sensing a feeling of discord which made her weak. Her control of harmony was dwindling day by day. Fearfully Charmeine said, “Tabbruis, I do not know why, but I am feeling a serious drain on my power. Please be careful.”
Tabbruis looked at her and said, “Charmeine, God made us for each other and nothing, or no one, can destroy our love.” The trumpets began to sound which meant a message was coming and they needed to get to the square.
Looking into each other’s eyes, he whispered, “Semper tuus ero, Charmeine.”
Charmeine whispered, “Semper tua ero, Tabbruis.”
(I am forever yours.)
“Charmeine’s Theme Song”
I dropped my jaw when I heard it.
As the Author of “The Light-Bearer Series”
When it was pointed out to me, I thought t his one song was written especially for my Charmeine!
You, you who has smiled when you’re in pain
You who has soldiered through the profane
They were distracted and shut down
So why, why would you talk to me at all
Such words were dishonorable and in vain
Their promise as solid as a fog
And where was your watchman then
I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian
I’ll be your warrior of care your first warden
I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand
The greatest honor of all, as your guardian
You, you in the chaos feigning sane
You who has pushed beyond what’s humane
Them as the ghostly tumbleweed
And where was your watchman then
I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian
I’ll be your warrior of care your first warden
I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand
The greatest honor of all, as your guardian
Now no more smiling mid crestfall
No more managing unmanageables
No more holding still in the hailstorm
Now enter your watchwoman
I’ll be your keeper for life as your guardian
I’ll be your warrior of care your first warden
I’ll be your angel on call, I’ll be on demand
The greatest honor of all, as your guardian
“I don’t think I will ever be in love” snippet from “Charmeine” the First Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”
School (1) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
(Author Note: Charleen doesn’t know that she is Charmeine… yet!)
Charleen was trying to keep two boys from fighting when she heard a crash in the back of the Hiawatha Elementary classroom in Long Island. One of the little girls in her class had knocked over the Lego bin and there were pieces flown everywhere on the floor.
Ignoring the mess, Charleen sat the boys down on the floor matt and sternly said, “I want everyone to get along here. If you don’t, you’ll make Miss Davis very unhappy.” Charleen looked at them with her big brown eyes and a sweet look which melted the boys. Very sweetly she said, “Now, please say you are sorry to each other, shake hands and we will all go to recess, okay?” The boys bobbed their heads up and down and shook hands.
A pile of Lego blocks, of assorted colours and sizes. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Yelling over the children’s shrieks and confusion, Charleen said “Now everyone grab the Lego pieces on the floor and put them back in the bin.” With a clap of her hands they were all scooping the pieces and making the floor clean again. “Okay now, let’s go outside and play, shall we?” All of the children walked hastily out into the hallway. When they got to the outside door, they stopped to let their teacher, Charleen, to open it. Once Charleen opened it, the children immediately started yelling and screaming as soon as their little feet hit the steps to go to the playground.
Working at summer school helped with the bills, but summer was Charleen’s favorite time of year. Charleen stood in the hot August sun watching the children play. She loved the sun. Charleen loved to feel the rays of sunlight beating down on her bare arms and face.
Like a snake in the grass to stalk his prey, Mr. Waverly started to make his way over to talk to Charleen. She was thinking to herself there was nothing she hated more than a guy trying to come on to her. Even worse, a guy coming on to her at work made her even more disgusted.
Mr. Waverly said, “Oh Charleen?”
She thought about running into the school, but she was assigned recess duty this week, so there was no retreat. Charleen grimaced, crossed her arms and replied, “Mr. Waverly?”
Mr. Waverly stood too close to her invading her personal space. His breath smelled like he hadn’t brushed his teeth in three years and it looked like it too. Waverly wasn’t overweight but he wasn’t thin. He had a little paunch belly and wore too tight pants which accentuated his shortcomings. His hair was greasy and combed into a pompadour.
She thought of Mr. Waverly as a combination of Lenny and Squiggy of “The Laverne and Shirley Show.” Charleen chucked thinking, ‘Dating them would be better than dating this moron!’
Sidling up to her Waverly said, “Hey baby, come to the Billy Joel Concert with me tomorrow night at Jones Beach.”
Charleen had to keep from laughing and rolling her eyes. She had to give Waverly credit, at least he didn’t try to hang on her or touch her which was his usual Modus Operandi.
She replied, “Mr. Waverly, thank you, but no. I already have a date for the Billy Joel Concert tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to it. Maybe I will see you there!”
Charleen scurried off to the other side of the school yard on the pretense of helping a girl go down the slide. She knew the filthy minded Mr. Waverly was watching her with his lurid eyes picturing her down to her skivvies.
Charleen hated it when men saw her as a sexual object. She had taken years of lessons in Judo. Charleen wanted to make sure she would never be a victim. She hated feeling helpless and knowing Judo and self-defense made her feel confident in almost all situations.
With a big sigh, Charleen turned her face to the sun and thought, ‘I don’t think I will ever be in love.’ Charleen had never dated anyone seriously. All the men she had accepted to go out on dates with were duds; she wasn’t really attracted to them. Charleen didn’t know why and really didn’t care. However, Charleen tried to convince herself she was happy being alone, even though deep down she felt empty, void and extremely lonely. Nevertheless, Charleen had her standards and wasn’t going to compromise, especially with Waverly; she thought, ‘Waverly is about as skuzzy as they come.’
A Day At Smith Point Beach (Photo credit: spyffe)
As if a cue to get Charleen’s mind off an unpleasant thought, she felt the sun warm her. She started to think about the ocean. Charleen felt so good at the beach with the soft rays of the sun beating down on her. She was thanking God summer session was over today. She had worked hard all summer.
Charleen had one week of vacation until school prep days for the fall semester started. The concert with Billy Joel at Jones Beach was the beginning of her week of sun and beach fun. Charleen had bought a new bathing suit and a brand new beach bag just for her upcoming ‘stay-cation’. She wasn’t rich by any means; however, Charleen relished and cherished the time she had at the beach like it was the most extravagant thing in the world to her.
When Charleen drove to Smith Point on the south shore of the Island, she didn’t care if it was 90 degrees or 50 degrees, she just liked to go and watch the waves go in and out with the tide. She felt peaceful and blissful at the beach.
“I want my life back…” heart-wrenching excerpt from “CHARMEINE” the First Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”
Smith Point Beach from Visitor Center (Photo credit: Mr. T in DC)
Charmeine looked into Tabbruis’ deep green eyes rimmed black with anger and sexual heat. She said softly, “Tabbruis, I want my life back. I want to come back to Long Island and teach again. I want to be Miss Charleen Davis again. This… we… will never work. Maybe you should have never rescued me in that parking lot? If I am truly the Queen of Light, I should have been able to defend myself. I should never rely on anyone to take care of me. I never did before I met you, and I was fine. I should have never trusted and married you. I don’t know what I was thinking. I should have stayed by myself. As far as that ring on your finger, its properties are not precious metals but cheap penny-weights.”
What Charmeine said cut Tabbruis to his core. He was shocked! His heart was encased in ice almost totally now. He could not feel it even pump.
However, Tabbruis had to get through to Charmeine! She could not leave him. Tenderly Tabbruis said, “Charmeine, my love….” Tabbruis took Charmeine’s hand and her hand did not spark!
Charmeine looked at him through tired eye lids and they both looked down.
Tabbruis was taken aback in shock!
Charmeine said, “I don’t spark for you anymore Tabbruis. My heart is dead, like my love is dead.”
Tabbruis in desperation, pleaded, “Charmeine, do you not understand you cannot leave me? Part of your heart lives in me, and part of my heart lives in you. We are joined. We are not whole when we are separated; therefore, we cannot live apart!”
Charmeine gently took his face in her hands, looked into his eyes, and softly said, “Tabbruis, I will admit to being in love with you so deeply I do not know where I end and you begin. However, Tabbruis, I think of you as my rock, my cool shade tree on a hot summer’s day, and my ocean which is always dependable with the waves coming in and out of shore. It makes me hurt inside in my heart knowing you did not trust me, knowing you did not believe in me, and most of all, knowing you lied to me.”
Charmeine ran her fingertips with a feather light touch over his lips when he tried to talk and said, “You see Tabbruis, I depend on you to be my rock, I depend on you to be my shade tree, and I depend on you to be my ocean. When you do not believe in me or lie, my rock falls into pebbles, my tree withers and my ocean dries up.
Charmeine whispered looking at Tabbruis with her worn-out eyes, “We should get to the airport for the battle. I flew here two days ago. I have not slept or eaten. I do not have enough strength to fly.”
Charmeine wearily walked through the tunnel to the parking lot. She turned around and looked at Tabbruis and the air was blowing through his chestnut brown hair with the highlights all around it. His eyes seemed like pools of green liquid emeralds. He was standing with both of his feet out and his arms had been put over his chest like a shield. Charmeine thought, ‘Even now, he is nothing but a work of art in the flesh.’ She turned around and kept walking toward the limo with her head high while tears were streaming down her face.
Tabbruis was traumatized. Charmeine was his Wife in Heaven and on Earth. They belonged together. He loved her.
On the other hand, Tabbruis was angry and burned with a fire in his belly. He thought, ‘Why had Charmeine not trusted my judgments? I am the person with the military experience.’ He was livid because Charmeine said she would leave him.
Still, Tabbruis was lost without her. His life revolved around this very beautiful and complex creature. Tabbruis needed Charmeine more than she would ever know. His light, his breath, his laughter, his love was inside Charmeine. She was the only woman he had ever wanted to be with, let alone love on the Earth. When she left, it was a wonder Tabbruis had not lost his mind.
Tabbruis got into the limo after Charmeine.
She slid across the seat to the other side as far as she could to be away from Tabbruis. She kept her head turned towards the window.
Irritated, Tabbruis said, “Driver privacy please?” The window between the seats came up.
As the limo started to make its down William Floyd Parkway, he turned and said, “I feel like I am damned at whatever I say to you.” Tabbruis could see Charmeine’s reflection in the glass. He saw her close her eyes taking in what he had said.
English: Mount Lycabettus, Athens, Greece. Français : Le Lycabette à Athènes, en Grèce. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Trying to start some kind of dialogue with her, he said, “We have relocated the squad to Athens, Greece to prepare for the battle. I have relocated all your things. Once we get on the plane, you can eat.”
Charmeine did not respond to him.
Tabbruis sensed Charmeine’s heart rate was slow and could feel the immense stress in her body. His heart was not doing any better, it was slowing and there was nothing he could do about it. Tabbruis thought, ‘I really wish I could hypnotize her now.’
Tabbruis now just almost to the brink of his endurance said, “Why? Why leave me over this Charmeine? I have nothing but the best interest for everyone at heart. Charmeine can you not see that? There is nothing malicious in my intentions!”
He swallowed hard and said, “For two days, I and our family have been terrified and worried you were going to be caught by the Elder Council or another blood-hunter.”
Charmeine closed her eyes and said softly, “Yes, I should have called my family to let them know I was safe, but then you would have known where I was calling from and came. I needed time to think.”
“Casualty of War” heartbreaking excerpt from “Charmeine” the First Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”
Acropolis in night (Photo credit: kornilios81)
Charmeine was very nauseous and worried as she crouched in her attack position at the southern corner at the Acropolis Temple in Athens.
Sword Full (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Tabbruis was with her. He drew his sword and the tip glowed. The virus was ready to administer. He checked his ear piece, telling the rest who were scattered about he was all clear.
Dmitri asked for all clear from Charmeine in her ear piece. She nervously said, “All clear.”
There were no clouds; the moon had lit the landscape just as the men said it would.
Tabbruis said, “I do love you Charmeine. May I…” Without a word from Charmeine, Tabbruis grabbed her and they kissed very hard and deep. They parted and Tabbruis said breathlessly, “I want you to know my love, as God as my witness, I will fight to the death to protect you.”
Charmeine said in a pant, “I will protect you also, God as my witness.”
Tabbruis in desperation said, “Oh God, I do love you.”
With her face black with worry, Charmeine said, “I know.”
Then Dmitri came on their earpiece saying the Elder Council had just arrived.
Sandra said, “Informing the squad we count 20 Guards.”
Charmeine’s heart went into her throat, she said to Tabbruis, “Isn’t that double what we thought?”
Tabbruis nodded yes, not looking at Charmeine.
Thomas radioed, “All of the Elder Council is attending.”
Neal said, “The Temple Guards are bringing in a blood-hunter to the ‘Altar of Judgment’.”
Tabbruis radioed, “We should free the blood-hunter first so he can fight with us.”
Dmitri said, “Good idea. Neal, free him as soon as we attack.”
Neal said, “Roger that.”
Dmitri radioed, “Does anyone see any more unfriendlies?”
Everyone radioed no.
Dmitri said, “You know what to do. Be ready to attack on my command.”
Charmeine started feeling the electricity in her hands and wind started blowing around them.
Dmitri commanded, “Attack!”
Sword fight (Photo credit: Udax)
Charmeine shot up like a lightning bolt and shot across to the Acropolis throwing lightning as she went. She saw Tabbruis in super speed under her on the ground cutting his sword into an Elder Council Temple Guard. Two more rushed him. He kept swinging. Charmeine shot a bolt of lightning at one Temple Guard cutting him down.
She saw Sandra and Shane come around the northern corner. Sandra was setting Guards on fire throwing fire. Shane was cutting the Guards with his sword.
Neal had already freed the imprisoned blood-hunter and they were fighting together.
Dmitri and Thomas were almost at the Elder Council, they were fighting the Guards furiously.
Charmeine thought it was weird that the Elder Council didn’t fight! They remained in their seats looking at the battle taking place. Pascal had his eyebrows up as if he were enjoying a Sunday night football game.
Sandra and Shane were trying to hold their own but the Temple Guards were too many, they kept coming from nowhere.
As Charmeine would throw her lightning, she was cutting the Temple Guards down long enough for Tabbruis to stab.
Neal freed the blood-hunter from “The Altar of Judgment.” They were fighting but they were not causing enough damage.
Charmeine quickly thought about bringing down hail but she couldn’t without hurting her family.
Suddenly, Charmeine and Tabbruis could see Shane and Sandra struggling. Charmeine said, “Tabbruis our son needs us!” With super speed Tabbruis and Charmeine were there. Sandra’s fire started to weaken. Charmeine was throwing her lightning as well as Shane to protect her.
Sandra was now fighting hand to hand combat and giving blow after blow to the Temple Guards. Charmeine was trying to shock them off of Sandra.
Shane seeing Sandra’s power failing ran beside her and screamed, “Take my sword. We can hold them back.”
Sandra took the sword and said with no fear or trepidation, “Affirmative!” Sandra was smiling wide and her eyes were open with determination. She presented her sword like a sword master. She began to slicing through the Temple Guards punching and kicking at the same time.When the Temple Guards came to attach Shane, he bit and shocked them throwing them back. His mouth was covered in blood.
Charmeine, Tabbruis and Shane were fighting their way to cover Sandra but they were too late!
In all but a second, a wind came through and Sandra’s headless body fell to the floor.
Shane screamed, “No!” and his whole body lit up with glowing white heat.
Charmeine and Tabbruis were looking around for the murderer while they were covering for Shane.
A sinister laugh came across in a wind.
They all looked around and saw Sandra’ head dangling by her hair in Pascal’s bloody hand.
In a heart-wrenching wail and a loud growl, Shane cried out, “No! Sandra! No!”
Shane fell down on his knees in the most excruciating pain Charmeine has ever seen.
Tabbruis came beside him fighting off as many Temple Guards as he could.
With vengeance in Charmeine’s heart and soul, she shot off after Pascal. He had already dropped Sandra’s head and vanished.
Dmitri went to collect Sandra’s bloody torso while fighting at the same time.
Charmeine flew after Pascal his speed was nothing for her flight. He went up against a large stone which was one of the many large stones gathered around the Acropolis. She flew to the ground and said in a vicious tone, “Pascal you will die!”
“Maybe it was Heaven” excerpt from “Charmeine” the First Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”
Tabbruis was dreaming as he was looking down hovering over the scene of white.
He saw Charleen and she was surrounded by clouds of white, soft pinks and blues.
Tabbruis, in the dream, had on a white robe with a breast plate of gold with a sword holstered at his side.
Charleen had a white robe on and her hair was gathered to one side in curls. She was talking to him. However, she was calling him ‘Tabbruis’, his given name, and his heart warmed.
In the dream scene, Tabbruis held Charleen in his arms. Tabbruis said “Charmeine, you are my light and my love. God has given the gift of our love to our family.”
They kissed and she whispered in his ear, “Tabbruis, I love you.”
He said, “Semper tuus ero, Charmeine.”
She answered “Semper tua ero, Tabbruis.”
The dream faded into misty clouds of white.
*****
It was light outside when Charleen awoke. She felt Tabbruis’ chest under her head which comforted her immediately.
Tabbruis opened his eyes and felt her stir on his chest. He held her tightly.
Charleen smiled and said with a whisper, “You’re here. You didn’t leave me.”
Tabbruis said tenderly, “No, I did not leave you.” Tabbruis smiled at her and said softly, “Actually for some reason, I was so relaxed, I slept. I usually do not sleep, but I did.”
Charleen smiled and gently said, “I’m glad you did.”
Tabbruis said with a smile recollecting the wonderful dream, “I also had a good dream, which is unusual.”
Charleen said, “Oh, you don’t ever dream good dreams?”
He furrowed his eyebrows and said, “Usually no.” Then Tabbruis smiled and said, “However, you were in my dream last night, and it was very good.”
Putting her chin on his chest, Charleen said with wide eyes, “I had a dream, and you were in my dream too!”
Tabbruis said, “Well it is understandable. We have had some pretty intense hours since we met.” He closed his eyes smiling as he remembered the dream.
Charleen said, “Yes… but in my dream you called me a different name…” She was trying to think and said, “Let me see, it wasn’t Charleen… it was Charm… something?” Then she furrowed her brow and said, “Charm…”
Shaken to his core, Tabbruis cut her off and said, “Charmeine?”
Charleen smiled and said, “Yes, Charmeine!” Then she furrowed her brow and said, “How did you know that?” Not waiting for him to answer, she said with a wondering look, “Is Tabbruis your real name?”
Again taken aback, Tabbruis’ eyes widened and he nodded slowly.
Tabbruis and Charleen both bolted up and sat across from each other instantly knowing they had the same dream.
Tabbruis was stunned beyond belief!
Charleen was reeling!Tabbruis could not believe what was happening and he said slowly, “Yes… Tabbruis… is my given name. When I awoke in the desert… my name, Tabbruis, was the only thing I could remember.”
Charleen smiled and softly said, “Tabbruis? Yes, I like the name, Tabbruis suits you much better.”
Looking down wanting to hide the hurt, Charleen said, “When I was found wandering around Holbrook, all I could remember was Char.” Looking up at him, she said quietly with a smile, “Then my given name must be… Charmeine?”
Tabbruis said slowly and softly, “Yes… your given name must have been…Charmeine.”
Tabbruis and Charleen both could not believe what had just happened.
With a voice almost inaudible Charleen looked at him and said, “What does…Semper… tuus… ero… mean?”
Tabbruis could not answer; he had no voice to do it. He took a big breath and shot out of bed. He went out to the terrace and began pacing. Tabbruis was confused and mostly scared. He had never remembered anything before his waking up in the desert. Tabbruis was terrified and baffled.
Angrily, Charleen got out of bed and stood in front of him and yelled, “Enough! Look it… I’m really getting tired of hot and cold treatment! You can’t just pull back and not explain anything to me!” She shouted, “What does all this mean? Damn it to Hell! What did I do wrong? I don’t understand?”
Tabbruis turned and looked at her with a frustrated expression while he was pacing back and forth. He shouted, “Do you think I understand? I do not know why you… I do not understand the clouds and white… I certainly do not understand why we said the things we said!”
Charleen leaned back on the rail folding her arms over her chest and sarcastically yelled, “Well, this is just great! I’m sorry if my dream ruined your day, but I thought it was a great dream. I can’t help it if I dreamt the same dream as you! Where are the dream police? Arrest me, why don’t ya?”
Still pacing, Tabbruis just shook his head and muttered, “Hilarious.”
As Tabbruis paced, Charleen collected her thoughts looking at the harbor and said, “There has to be a reason for our dream? I don’t know. Maybe it was Heaven?”
Tabbruis was still pacing.
Turning around, Charleen looked at him pacing. She said with sweetness in her voice, “Maybe it was Heaven, Tabbruis?”
Tabbruis stopped pacing and stood still. He was warmed hearing his given name coming out of her mouth with such kindness.
She said again, “Tabbruis… maybe it was Heaven?”
Tabbruis walked to her, touched her chin to bring it up, so he could look deep into her brown eyes. Tabbruis said ever so tenderly, “Semper tuus ero… means… I am forever yours.”
Tabbruis’ words were like honey to her. Charleen looked at his eyes of deep green and said, “Those are the most beautiful words I have ever heard, Tabbruis.”
“Charmeine is Kickasstacular!” action snippet from “Charmeine” the First Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”
Charmeine disgusted at Tabbruis’ superior attitude thought he needed to learn a lesson, she yelled, “Try! I’m a big girl.”
Tabbruis said, “You asked for it okay?”
Charmeine said, “Okay! Now!”
Tabbruis with superhuman speed tried to get her into a choke hold but her anticipation of his move made her dive out of the way. He attacked Charmeine’s waist trying to drag her down; however, she threw Tabbruis off with her electric current.
Now, Tabbruis was more determined to win this bet. He ran and made a swiping kick to the side of Charmeine’s head.
With anticipation and quickness, Charmeine caught his leg and turned him upside down throwing him up against a tree.
Everyone on the field was coming to look at Tabbruis and Charmeine sparring.
Tabbruis was now a little ticked off his wife had bested him in three superhuman moves and now… he had an audience to boot!
He was not happy about being shown up by his wife in front of his friends.
On the other hand, Charmeine was enjoying this to the fullest!
Charmeine loved the fact she could show everyone how strong she was and could take care of herself.
Charmeine said to everyone watching, “I’m not a China doll, and everyone is going to find that out tonight! What’s the matter Tabbruis, chicken? Can’t take it Tabbruis? You scared of ‘little ole’ me?”
Charmeine turned deliberately walking a few yards from Tabbruis. Then in a teasing way, she twisted her head and winked at him.
Tabbruis’ fangs extended and his eyes turned green with black surrounding them.
Dmitri grabbed him and said, “Tabbruis?”
Tabbruis broke free of his hold and lunged while Charmeine’s back was turned. He flew through the air and headed for her neck with his fangs exposed. Tabbruis’ sword was going to swipe her legs.
Charmeine deflected the sword, swinging Tabbruis’ body in a counter-clockwise position blocking his hands in a two and one grip! In a turnabout, Charmeine bit him on the neck throwing him high in the air.
Tabbruis landed hard 10 feet away from her with blood coming down his neck.
Dmitri started sniggering and cried out, “Oh my…”
The others were trying to control their laughter, but they could not.
Tabbruis ran to the squad of men and he felt his neck. He put his hand down and saw blood on it.
Incredulously he yelled, “Charmeine… you BIT me? You bit me hard too!”
Everyone started to laugh loudly, and Tabbruis’ eyes became black as he licked the blood off his hand.
Charmeine nonchalantly blew on her nails like this was all child’s play and said, “Well… you started it… I’m not the one who had his fangs out heading for my neck.”
Tabbruis was incensed and very turned on! He wished they were alone on the field so he could take her right there!
Charmeine took her index finger and bent it up and down beckoning Tabbruis saying, “What’s the matter tough guy… am I playing too rough for you?”
The others were caterwauling and heckling Tabbruis which only egged him on to either bring Charmeine down or take her to their bed and have his way with her!
Tabbruis smiled bearing his fangs and said, “Oh Baby, you asked for it now!”
Tabbruis went after Charmeine and flew 20 feet at her chest trying to do a body blow, and she bent down easily missing his attempt at contact. Tabbruis punched the ground with both of his feet changing momentum and somersaulting flying backwards through the air taking his sword and swiping toward her mid-section.
Charmeine deflected his sword giving him a hard pinch on his cheek, which made him loose momentum and landed hard on the ground about 5 feet away.
Tabbruis grabbed his cheek and said, “A pinch? Really?”
Charmeine shrugged her shoulders and started to take her hair down flipping it around her head.
Tabbruis was going crazy with desire.
Charmeine said to Shane, “Shane it appears your father needs a little help. You and your father both try to make contact with me.”
Shane said, “No Char, you would get hurt.”
Tabbruis shook his head no out of breath and said, “Are you crazy Charmeine? We could kill you?”
She said, “First of all, you need to see I can take care of myself in a battle and second of all… are you men or chickens? Geez Louise!”
Tabbruis looked at Shane and said, “Obviously she thinks she can do it?” He said to Shane, “Be careful.”
Charmeine yelled, “No! If you will not use all of your force, then don’t do it all. Maybe someone else can spare with me like a true threat?”
Tabbruis said, “You heard her Son, use all the means at your disposal.”
Shane said, “Are you sure?”
Tabbruis said, “Look in her eyes Son, she means it.”
Shane looked at her and said, “Let’s go!”
Shane ran at Charmeine while Tabbruis tried to sweep her head. Shane tried to sweep her legs and she bent and jumped easily missing their attempts at knocking her down.
Charmeine used her lightening and threw them both up in the air.
Shane threw a shock at her and immediately, a shield went around her deflecting his attack.
Tabbruis and Shane came back to the group after brushing themselves off because they landed in a pile of leaves.
Dmitri laughing bent over trying to catch his breath. He shouted, “Oh my… Alas my Queen you constantly astound us all!”
Tabbruis in a pleading voice asked, “Dmitri, a little help, my Brother?”
Dmitri replied, “Oh my… I would be enchanted to spar the fair Queen Charmeine.”
Charmeine yelled, “Enchanted my ass!”Charmeine turned with all three of them on the attack and deflected a kick of Tabbruis, missed Shane’s blow by stepping aside and Dmitri’s punch by bending down while they were in the air, she stunned them.
All of them ended up in pile 15 feet away. As the men reformed with the others out of breath, Charmeine said, “Awe to be fair, I guess all of you should try to make contact with me.”
Neal’s eyes glimmered with the thought of real combat and hollered, “I would like that my Queen!”
Thomas was hesitant and shouted, “You are a woman, and I refuse to fight women!”
Charmeine mockingly said, “Oh yeah, for your Laura even?” That was all the coaxing Thomas needed.
When all the men came at her, it was like they were on in slow motion. Each attack seemed slow.
Charmeine was deflecting blows, jumping and throwing kicks and punches to all four men.
Charmeine, said, “Gentlemen anytime you want to start, is fine with me!”
“If you take Charmeine out of my hands…” Heartbreaking snippet from “Charmeine” the First Novel of “The Light-Bearer Series”
Tears were running down Tabbruis’ face as he said, “They are not as beautiful as my dearest Wife.”Tabbruis saw Charmeine was fading.
Frantically he was pleading with her and said, “Charmeine? Charmeine please stay with me?”
With a big smile Charmeine replied, “Tabbruis, I love you. Our family is saved. Our family is strong! They are safe now.”
Charmeine slumped and Tabbruis ripped open his arm to make her drink. He yelled, “Son… Thomas… Help me now, save her!”
Shane and Thomas did C.P.R. They worked tirelessly to revive her, but they could not make Charmeine respond. When they realized Charmeine was dead, her body was going cold, and they stopped. Shane was shaking; Thomas reached over and hugged Shane consoling him.
Tabbruis could not breathe, his face went black and his heart failed to beat. He fell on his knees and put his head down on Charmeine’s chest and sobbed rocking her lifeless body back and forth.
Dmitri crying himself said, “Tabbruis my Brother, Charmeine is gone!”
Neal cried in pain, “Our Queen!”
Tabbruis was screaming, “No! My love! My wife! Please God, I believe now! Please God! I cannot live without her!”
All of them, even Shane, came to Tabbruis and tried to make him let go of Charmeine’s dead body.
Tabbruis roared vociferously up at the sky, and the echo filled everyone’s ears reverberating. Tabbruis growled loudly and shouted, “No! We just found each other. I cannot live without her. If you take Charmeine out of my hands, it will only be when I have no life left to hold her.”While he was looking up, Tabbruis saw lights falling toward them and said, “Oh my God!”
Everyone looked up.
Meteors were raining down to the ground but not impacting it. A light started to approach them. Then another light and another light…
All of sudden, they began to make out a figure. As it came closer, the light began to subside.
Dmitri recognized Hera. Right behind her, Percival and Athena became visible. He dropped his sword and they ran to each other. He embraced Hera with so much joy and yelled, “Hera, my wife! Children, I have missed you!”
Laura became noticeable to Thomas. He ran to her without saying a word. Thomas kissed Laura with all of his might.
A tiny little thing was running through them waving. Shane yelled, “Sandra! Oh God! Sandra!” He brought her up into his strong arms and twirled her around kissing her.
Then out of the back a very tall man came running through the light… In awe, Neal dropped his sword and threw open his arms. He ran to hug him and shouted with glee, “Hameal my love, you have come back to me!” Neal kissed Hameal holding his body close.
Tabbruis was in agony holding Charmeine pleading in grief and agony, “God please do not take her away from me. She has sacrificed so much for You, Your Son and us all. Please let Charmeine live.”
Tabbruis wiped his tears away so he could see her lovely face. He stroked her golden hair and said, “I cannot live without you, Charmeine. I am not that strong.”
Then like in a vision, Tabbruis saw light…
His Only-begotten Son and the Word of God 1885-1896 (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Charmeine was in a white light and the Son of God showed his face and said, “Charmeine the meekest of all the Angels has followed My commands and God, my Father’s, holy edicts.
You, Charmeine, have sacrificed yourself for love of God, Myself and your family. If you wish, you can stay in Heaven never to want, worry or need anything ever again.
You will be in perfect peace.
You are the Angel of Harmony, and you have shown yourself worthy.
However, you can go back to Earth to rule along Tabbruis as your King justly and fairly praising God every day of your life.
There will be wants, worries and needs on Earth. I warn you now; death will be with you always on the Earth! There will always be Evil. Until the end of time, Evil will be on the Earth and in all forms.
Lucifer controls his minions on Earth from his Lake of Fire and Torment. Minions and evil-doers cause much pain and suffering to My people on Earth. If you should return, it will be you and your family’s task to combat those followers of Lucifer.”
Charmeine knelt and bowed to the Son and said, “Lord in the Highest, I am God’s instrument to do as He wishes. However, if You give me a choice, I would like to be with my family and my beloved Tabbruis with God’s help!”
The Son of God put His hand on her head and said, “The Evil is all forms on Earth and there will be times of great pain and uncertainty.”
Charmeine said, “I chose my destiny to be the Queen of Light and do Your will, God’s will always.”
The Son of God said, “Peace be with you, Charmeine.”
Still kneeling and bowing Charmeine said, “And also with You.”
“Kick Ass Charmeine!” excerpt from “CHARMEINE” the First Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”
Just after midnight, the perimeter alarms lit up on their screens. Tabbruis and Charmeine stood up. Neal said, “We have penetration on the southwest corner of the compound.”
Tabbruis radioed, “Affirmative. Everyone power up swords, now.”
Shane radioed, “Affirmative, but we must wait until we can get most of the Guards into the field and then surprise them.”
Dmitri radioed, “Affirmative, when I throw the switch on the lights that is when we will attack.” All the squads were scattered in pairs around the Castle grounds. With about a mile apart between them in the North, Northeast, South and Southwest corners.
Thomas radioed, “We do not have any reading on guns or artillery being brought across the perimeters.”
Charmeine radioed, “Affirmative, they think it’s a surprise attack. I know they think we are vulnerable enough without them.”
Neal radioed “Affirmative my Queen but everyone keep a look on your monitors for it will show if any do pass the perimeter.”
Tabbruis took Charmeine and kissed her urgently saying, “For my wife, I defend you.”
Charmeine answered, “I am forever yours.”
Neal radioed, “The Elder Council has penetrated the perimeter.”
Dmitri radioed, “Affirmative, is it ALL the Elder Council? Are all 5 present?”
Neal said, “Affirmative.”
Thomas radioed, “If my calculations are correct, there are about 50 Temple Guards!” Everyone was stone silent. The trepidation was prevalent. There were only about 35 at the Acropolis in Athens when they engaged the Elder Council in battle before.
Charmeine radioed, “Affirmative. It would not matter if it was 500 hundred Temple Guards. We will be victorious tonight! Believe! Believe and fight for your family to be whole again! As soon as the Taurid Meteor Showers begin, attack the Elder Council no matter what!”
Everyone radioed, “Affirmative.”
Dmitri radioed, “When I throw on the lights it will be the signal to attack.” Everyone radioed, “Affirmative.”
What seemed like an eternity, Charmeine and Tabbruis looked in each other’s eyes with desperation; Charmeine’s hands were beginning to glow which ran through her body. She held Tabbruis’ chin said, “Oh God, give him strength,” and kissed Tabbruis. Before they knew it, the lights came on.
Charmeine shot up like a bullet in the sky shocking Temple Guards on her left and right. Tabbruis was trying to strike them down as she stunned them.
She saw Shane, shocking with his left hand and then striking down Temple Guards with his sword. Shane was glorious.
Charmeine saw Neal and Dmitri fighting in combat with their swords and landing death blows on the Guards. Neal was easily slicing through the bodies with his brute strength.
Thomas was fighting but also monitoring the perimeter alarms on his wrist watch/monitor screen.
A Temple Guard rushed on Tabbruis. The Guard bit into Tabbruis’ back but the Kevlar suit made it difficult to grab a hold of his skin. Tabbruis in one fell swoop beheaded the Temple Guard. Tabbruis was hit hard from behind by another guard and he landed on the ground. Two Temple Guards came to attack him.
Charmeine came down to the ground distracting them and she winked at them and yelled, “Oh boys, over here! Come to mama!” Not only did the two Temple Guards come but four more came. Charmeine was deflecting blows and stunning them and slicing into necks making them bleed.
Tabbruis was in awe, but had two Guards to deal with of his own.
No Temple Guard was a match for Charmeine! The more Temple Guards that came to attack her, the more she littered the ground with their bodies.
Charmeine saw the Elder Council become nervous and concerned because the squad was beginning to advance on them.
She radioed “The Elder Council look like they will escape before the meteor storms will hit. I have to stop them.”
Tabbruis said, “Charmeine, do not go without me!”
Charmeine said, “I have to. I’m going to try something… I have to stop them!”
Tabbruis shouted, “No!”
Charmeine flew down to the ground and with her lightning; she formed a circle around the Elder Council and herself. One Elder Council member threw himself up against the lightning and the shock of the impact threw him down making him convulse burning like he was on fire from the inside out screaming in agony.
At that moment Pascal came up to her ready to strike and shouted, “You will suffer for this Charmeine!”
Charmeine smiled and said, “Go ahead Pascal and touch me. I would really love it. This time if you put your hands on me, I won’t heal you like I did in Hell. You will burn like you should have in Hell!
So, I take it you don’t want to suffer the same fate as your friend there?”
Pascal’s eyes flew open and hatred blackness in his eyes made him stare intensely on Charmeine.
Charmeine said, “Oh yes, I remember you! You are supposed to be in Hell with Lucifer in the Lake of Torment and Fire, but you grabbed me on the way to the Portal to Earth. You are the one who will suffer Pascal. Tonight you will die!”
“No Trust OR No Faith” excerpt from “CHARMEINE” the First Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”
Charmeine said sternly, “How can you not trust me, My Champion?”Charmeine walked at a very fast pace to the terrace. Before leaving the Dmitri’s study, Charmeine turned and said to the squad, “I believe in each of you! How can you not believe in me?” She went out on the terrace.
Instantly, Tabbruis stood in front of her. He started to talk but she cut him off and yelled, “YOU! You especially! Do not ever call me “Darling” when I am with the squad. I want respect!”
Tabbruis said, “You have my respect but in this case, we are the more experienced fighters. Do not get upset…” Tabbruis stopped talking because he noticed her hands beginning to light with a current.
All the family was gathering on the terrace looking at Tabbruis and Charmeine.
She said in a strong booming voice, “The Elder Council will not fall on August 31st, but our family will! I know it! I know it in my heart and in my head. However, I will fight with the family to my death even though I know it is wrong! It is very wrong!”
Tabbruis said in a soothing manner, “Charmeine everything is going to be fine. We have a great plan for the battle. We have talked it all the way through. Darling, trust me everything will be fine.”
Charmeine said with a steel determination laced with disgust, “Trust you? Trust you? Tabbruis I am incensed you do not trust my instincts. What kind of faith, love and belief do you have in me? As long I play your game, everything will be fine? And you call yourself, My Champion? How dare you say you are My Champion? My Champion would believe in me!”
Tabbruis getting angry, embarrassed and frustrated shouted harshly, “Charmeine you should trust MY judgment! I am the experienced fighter. Everyone in this squad has fought tactical battles except you Charmeine! If I had my way Charmeine, you would not be there! However, I am allowing you to come along even though I know I will be worrying about you, instead of the squad!”
Charmeine was more than furious; she was disappointed, saddened and disheartened.
It was clear Tabbruis really did not believe in her abilities to help win the battle. Most of all, he did not believe in her ability to lead!
Charmeine felt like Tabbruis threw a dagger at her; the dagger implanted in her was toxic and deep. She began to harden her heart towards him.
Charmeine thought, ‘The worst thing has happened to me; I have fallen in love with a man who does not believe in me!’
If she was ever going to be truly happy, Tabbruis had to believe in her. However, she could tell from his green eyes encircled in black, he did not.
Tabbruis’ lack of faith in her was debilitating Charmeine. She felt like the wound in her heart Tabbruis had inflicted was poisoning her love. She had to leave before all the pieces of their love were burnt into ashes.
Charmeine felt her soul becoming black with despair and fear. Her heart worked harder to pump the venom of doubt he released upon her.Tabbruis sensed his heart was beginning to slow. He grabbed his chest and shouted with a look of fear on his face, “Charmeine? What is happening? Our hearts… Our hearts are…”
The wind started to pick up and whip around her and she said with a malicious tone, “After the battle and the Elder Council is dead, my alleged Champion and Husband… I will go away… alone!”
Lightning bolt! (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
A bolt of lightning crashed down with deafening thunder and wind. Tabbruis could see Charmeine’s ring fall as in slow motion in front of him. As he reached out to catch ring, Charmeine’s body was not there! Tabbruis felt his heart barely beating, struggling to pump!
Charmeine was gone and her love was gone with her!
