Emily Guido was inspired to pen The Light-Bearer Series because one day she got an idea of two characters that needed to have their story told. Not ever dreaming a week later she would have over a 100,000 words written. When Emily writes, it is similar to watching a movie. She pictures the characters in her head going through vivid descriptions of each scene. There are so many nuances racing through her mind, she cannot type fast enough. The novels Charmeine, Mactus, Accendo, and Seditious are the continuation of the wonderful adventures of the inhabitants of The Castle Charmeine and available in all book venues. Emily is currently writing Ransom, and Conundrum, the fifth and sixth novels in The Light-Bearer Series.
Attracted to Fine Arts since she was little, Emily danced, studied violin, opera, musical theatre, acting, while being an avid reader. She has her graduate degree as a Master of Business Administration, and works for a Fortune 500 company near New York City.
The Light-Bearer Series is a Contemporary, Young Adult, and Paranormal Romance, with Vampires, Angels, Action, Historical Adventure and original struggles between Good and Evil.

Thoughts about Mary or “Mom”…
Born November 29, 1923. Left with the Angels on May, 25, 2015
Mary or “Mom” was a person that never knew a stranger. She was a firm believer in Equal Rights. All people were the same in her eyes. She taught her children that they were no better than anyone else, and no one was better than them. In other words, she believed we were ALL God’s people.
Mary was compassionate to the sick, lonely and troubled. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Rosary and Holy Spirit, visited the sick and elderly parishioners, cooked for Funeral dinners and made a point to involve her children in volunteering their time to bring comfort to all they touched. Her children learned by her straight-forward Christian example.
A lifelong member of the Democratic Party, she was a Precinct Committeeperson for a whopping 35 years! She worked for several candidates she believed in such as President Kennedy, President Carter and several local politicians such as Senator Burch Bayh and his son, Evan. Even when her #6 son was born the same day and time as President John Kennedy’s son, she named her son, John Fitzgerald Esparza, in tribute to President Kennedy.
Mary worked tirelessly at Holy Rosary Church as a Charter Member of this now, thriving and growing parish. She wanted to build a caring Catholic community of the sparsely populated East Side of Evansville. There were only four houses in the early days of her neighborhood. If you can imagine, Green River Road was made of gravel!
The small brick house on the corner of Polster Drive and Sycamore was a welcoming place. Coffee, compassion and laughter were always brewing. Neighbors and neighborhood kids would come in and she would always have a smile, hug, a delicious cup of coffee, a glass of ice tea, a gallon jug of Kool-Aid for the kids, or a home cooked meal waiting. No one left Mary’s doorstep hungry. She fed you whether you wanted it or not!
Mom believed that food was the cement of the Esparza Family. She cooked as a labor of love. The older “Esparza Boys” affectionately named one of her signature creations, “Cruddy Bread.” It was the best home baked bread you could ever eat. They harangued their Mom to buy store bought bread. Of course, when she bought the store bread, the kids knew “Cruddy Bread” was the best in the world. Every Saturday, Mary would make a huge pot of her signature “Garbage Soup.” She would save leftovers and put in canned veggies from her garden into it. The meat in “Garbage Soup” would be whatever was on sale that week at the IGA grocery store.
At Halloween, the Esparza house had a line of kids and parents around the corner of the block to collect Mom’s homemade popcorn balls and candied apples. Any time when the family would gather, Mary made mouth-watering meals, wonderful pies, and various cobblers. Her signature “Lamb Cakes” (a delicious confection shaped like a lamb) was the best. She loved to decorate cakes and even volunteered to make wedding cakes for friends and family.
Mary would invite the Clergy of Holy Rosary parish to the Esparza house for occasional Sunday dinners. She wanted her children to appreciate the Nun’s and Priest’s religious sacrifice and love of God. It was a time she could break out the fine china and spoil the Esparza Family’s special guests.
Sewing was a necessity with such a large family. Mom sewed until the wee hours making matching dresses for her daughters Connie and Emily. Even in the early days, she would take in laundry and sew for the neighborhood families to earn few extra dollars.
Mary was a fun-loving woman who transferred her zeal of life to her children and those around her. She loved to sing, and of course, dance. When she would have an occasional night out, Mary would coax her sons out on the VFW dance floor to “cut a rug.” She belonged to the Burdette Roller Skating Club and would take her kids roller skating every Monday night. She taught her children sing songs and harmonize by heart on the ride there. All of her children learned, “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” by memory.
Mary was determined to have her children graduate high school and go to college, if they wished. She worked hard to support, guide and help them to achieve their goals. Whether her child was a hard working Union man, a Singer/Songwriter, Violinist, or Author, she wanted her children to explore and pursue their dreams. Four of her sons became Boilermakers (people who keep the Energy and Power companies going) and following in their father’s footsteps, three of her Grandsons became Boilermakers as well. All of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren had the example of her determination to be the best they can be.
Adversity and tragedy has tested Mary and her family, especially with the loss of her beloved Daughter – Constance Ayon or “Connie” at the age of 15 to Leukemia. That is why St. Jude’s Hospital was patronized by Mary every month. Mary was asked by her daughter, Emily, how she handled it. She said, “I cried in private and persevered. I knew I had to be a Mom, not only to Connie, but to my other children. It was important to me that I supported you, in your time of grief. Not mine.”
An independent and proud woman of great faith and easy-going manner, Mom tried her best to love and not say a harsh word against anyone. She was that determined to carry herself with dignity and respectful of all who needed her help and guidance. Mary didn’t have much, but she gave what she could to help others.
Later on in life, Mom eventually succumbed to the devastating illness, Alzheimer’s. The disease took away her independence, and that was the harshest blow she could imagine. Mom is now reunited with her loved ones in Heaven. She has passed a great legacy to the entire Esparza Family of determination to overcome adversity, inclusivity, laughter, zest of life, and tolerance of ALL God’s people.
PS: Dear Mom, I hope I will see the butterflies, red roses and daisies you pick in Heaven with Connie. Until then, I have your strength and love to live up to for the rest of my life. Just keep a coffee warm for me until then… your loving daughter, Emmy.

Ramsey Olaru is a bona fide bad-ass: a lethal vampire, a seasoned warrior, and a ruthless mercenary in the king’s Sentinel Guard. He’s accustomed to taking what he wants, ramrodding his way through obstacles, and silencing anything—or anyone—who gets in his way. So when his Gemini Blood Moon reveals Tiffany Matthews as his long-awaited destiny, he sets out to fulfill the demands of the Curse, claiming her as his own, swiftly and definitively.
Tiffany Matthews is as independent as she is savvy, and she knows more than she should about the volatile underworld of the Vampyr, the powerful, preternatural beings that dwell in Dark Moon Vale. She has carved out a peaceful, solitary place in a world filled with violence and fear, and she plans to keep it that way. The sassy human has no time for the brutal, unforgiving warrior—or his ominous Blood Moon.

Author – the Good, Bad and the Ugly…
I feel that I have been to Hell. A deep place in my soul that has me guessing who are my friends and my foes. My writing career has left me a bit worse for wear and hesitant.
Why?
I think the problems revolve around the criminals out there. Not the criminals that rob banks, murder and generally are no good. These criminals are faceless and just like you and me, except they don’t mind cyber-stealing.
THE GOOD…
You create a alternate universe in your head.You write.
You poor your heart out on the computer keyboard.
You stay up late giving up time with your family.
Making sacrifices.
You read, edit and write better drafts.
You pay a lot of money. Your money you would have used on a vacation or day out with the family.
You pay for the ownership of this creation… like copyrights, LLC, editing, and book covers.
You trust most people and believe that they will do the right thing.
That’s when life was good and you hoped for many good things to come.
THE BAD…
Then you wake up one morning and see that your heart, your hard work, your investment of time and money has been pirated. Even worse, the edition that you had before the edit, is the one that has been pirated.To put the frosting on the cake, so to speak, those people who took it, review the unedited version.
I have heard stories like this – a very famous Author, wrote a book in the continuation of a series that was very well received even the movie version. However, her unedited version got pirated and she stopped writing the series… She said that the piracy took her heart out of the series. She said that she will never write another book in the series.
THE UGLY…
So, I have been hit many times. This last time, I felt psychologically raped of my ideas and creation.I am not afraid that my life as a writer is going to be harder. It’s just that I am jaded now.
I don’t trust ANYONE!
I’m asking the universal powers out there… why and how do you cope?
“Lots of love” is my sign-off line – I still wish that for all of you…
WHY?
Because in my soul I believe and trust a higher power… KARMA.
So, all I have to say is – cyber pirates may try – but I know that they will NEVER steal my Sunshine!
Lots of love, Emily

Pay it Forward Friday with a Review of Legacy of Ghosts (#2 in Amaranthine Series) by Author Joleene Naylor
Book 2
Amaranthine Series
by Author Joleene Naylor
After reading the first novel of the Amaranthine Series, Shades of Gray, I started on novel two.Again, the strange couple of Jorick and Katelina are in the middle of the fray with warring factions of Vampire covens.
Jorick has to save the life of Katelina after she was viciously attacked and seals their fate together in a very personal way.
An evil Vampiress and her coven come after Jorick, and he knows nothing will be settled until he can be rid of her vengeance.
However, because of bickering and untruthful followers, Katelina and Jorick have their job cut out for them.
How they will accomplish their freedom?
My thoughts
I immediately picked up book two, Legacy of Ghosts, right after I read the first novel, Shades of Gray.
I seem to have a fascination in learning more about Jorick and Katelina and why these two are together. However, the novel is so fast paced that I didn’t get much information on that subject.
Action, terror, and mystery are always around in Legacy of Ghosts. Ms Naylor writes in great detail.
The evil Vampiress, Kateesha, is one vicious predator!Many other interesting and truly terrifying characters are introduced in this book along with others from her first novel. Some, I found truly disconcerting but fascinating.
Katelina finds out some of Jorick’s deepest secrets and regrets. I want her to mature and grow wise in her role with Jorick.
However, Jorick’s motivations aren’t always clear, and Katelina sure doesn’t know how to handle that but to be suspicious.
Even at the end, I wanted to scream at Jorick and Katelina, “What’s going on? What’s your agenda?”
Ms. Naylor sure does know how to motivate a person to keep reading!
I highly recommend, Amaranthine Series by Author Joleene Nayor.
For all of this, I have to give this book a hearty 5 stars.
Definitely an 18+ read.

Lots of love, Emily

Immortal Obsession
by Author Denise K. Rago
Caught in a civil war among their kind in French Revolution-era Paris, vampires Christian Du Mauré and his closest friend Michel Baptiste say goodbye to their mortal lover, Josette Delacore. Christian learns that he is the father of her daughter Solange, who has been whisked away to London for her safety. Through passing centuries, Christian acts as sentry, protecting his mortal descendants, never meddling in their lives.In present day Manhattan, Amanda Perretti agrees to meet her vagrant brother Ryan in Central Park. They have no idea that they are the last descendants of Christian and Josette. After witnessing his savage murder, Amanda then sees his fanged murderer lose his head to a mysterious man. Waking up unharmed, Amanda realizes she has entered another realm. Though the police doubt her account of the murder, she vows to find the beautiful stranger who saved her life.
Months later their paths accidentally cross, and while Amanda seeks answers, Christian tries to shield her from an ancient enemy he knows will come to seek revenge. When Michel confesses a dark secret, Christian is still unsure of how to protect Amanda and when he discovers that Amanda’s vampire lover is indeed his enemy, he must decide all of their fates. Amanda finally learns the truth about her lineage and that her blood gives vampires rare powers. He shares some of his past with her.
Amanda’s vampire lover and Christian fight one another in Central Park. Christian kills his enemy and while celebrating their victory at the local vampire club, Amanda steps outside to make a phone call. Solange and another vampire drag her up to the rooftop. After they attack Amanda, Christian tries rescuing her and receives a fatal stab wound. Amanda forces him to drink her blood to save his life while almost losing her own life.
Later, at home Christian detects two heart beats inside Amanda and realizes she is unaware she is pregnant.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Little Look inside Immortal Obsession
Steps away from Central Park, among careworn books and paintings, the vampire Christian Du Mauré quietly watches over two modern mortals: Amanda and Ryan Perretti are the last two descendants of a painful affair Christian had more than two centuries ago in Paris France with mortal aristocrat, Josette Delacore. On the eve of revolution, he makes a vow to her, not understanding the consequences of his promise. When Immortal Obsession begins, Christian’s promise is intact; his young ancestors suspect nothing of their origin.
Amanda’s life is happily predictable: she landed her dream job working for New York’s monolithic Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she unites her fascination with Revolution-era Paris and her abiding love of art. During one late night at work, Amanda is roused by an unexpected phone call. Her brother Ryan urgently needs her help. Against her better judgment, she rushes to meet him in Central Park—and unwittingly becomes entangled in a world she never imagined was real.
How did you come up with the title for your book? Does it have any special meaning?Actually my husband came up with the title. I was agonizing over it when he blurted out ‘how about Immortal Obsession?’ It just made sense because the story revolves around several vampires who each became obsessed with mortal women and have sustained their fascination for them over centuries.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Definitely the vampire Christian Du Mauré as he is based on a man I knew in a past live who I loved then and still feel connected to in this lifetime. Christian is complex. He feels deeply and remains loyal to those he loves despite being a loner.
Does your book have any underlying theme, message, or moral?
Themes of guilt, regret, betrayal and loss run through Immortal Obsession as well as the message that love is timeless and eternal. The main character, Christian Du Mauré never loses the intense love he feels for his mortal lover or the deep connection to his best friend, despite lies and betrayals by them both.
Review of Shades of Gray, Amaranthine Series Book One by Joleene Naylor…
Review ofShades of Gray
Amaranthine Series
Book One
by Author Joleene Naylor
Katelina was a normal young woman who was in a on again off again relationship with Patrick. She comes home one day to find Patrick brutally murdered.
Unbeknownst to her, Patrick was in a world of vampires with ancient laws, cruelty and unspeakable terrors.
Katelina is suddenly drawn into the grips of danger when she is offered protection from Jorick. He wants to protect her. They travel to escape the danger from a powerful coven master who is wanting revenge for kidnapping his child bride.
However, forces in Jorick’s own circle turn against him, and he has to fight to free Katelina from the monsters that has encased her.
My thoughts about Shades of Gray
When I started to read this book on my Kindle, I sort of had a preview into Ms. Naylor’s Amaranthine Series from reading her book of short stories about the characters called, Amarnthine: Vampire Morsels.That really didn’t prepare me for the roller-coaster that was awaiting me. There were parts of the book that had me riveted. I can’t even tell you how descriptive Ms. Naylor writes. It is fluent and elaborate. Nothing is over-looked. I sometimes felt uneasy reading how debased some of the vampires were.
My favorite part was reading about the sulking and hunky, Jorick. Different from most heros, Jorick has tons of skeletons in his closet… literally.Katelina is suspicious and rightly so, but she is strangely enthralled by Jorick.
I didn’t understand why she was so willing to go with Jorick. I didn’t understand why Jorick is so protective of Katelina. Nevertheless, I’m reading on to the second book in the Amaranthine Series called Legacy of Ghosts. The more I read, the more I am enlightened. I intend to read the whole series.
I recommend Shades of Gray by Author Joleene Naylor. It is a MUST READ for any “Vampite” like myself.
Shades of Gray is a FIVE STAR read!
By the way, definitely an 18+ read.
I thought the description said… romance?
If you know me at all… you know that I am an avid reader. I read and listen to books every day without fail.Even on the day I had my operation, I was reading hooked up to a morphine pump in the hospital room.
You know that I am a lover of Paranormal Romance, especially in the vampiric vein, so to speak.Nothing gets my heart beating faster than a tall, dark vampire hero!
Okay, before I get started with my post, I know those of you will vehemently disagree with me.So, for the record, let me state this…
I definitely don’t begrudge anyone their 50 Shades of Grey.
That is not my vexation or angst.
My chagrin is that I have a policy to read a book cover to cover. The past several books I have started on my blessed Kindle, I have had to put down because the writing bothered me.
The story troubled me so much that this morning, after I closed my Kindle on yet another book characterized as a romance, I wanted to write why my coveted policy is being abandoned.
I thought romance was attraction, friendship, wooing, a little intrigue, heroism (both hero and heroines) and danger in the mix, but most of all, in the end it was about… LOVE!However, what I believe to be romance is not the case in all books classified as romance.
I feel some romance novels are based or about meanness, possession, domination, callousness… and then – oh by the way – I love you, if you obey me?
What the heck? Exsqueeze me? Baking Powder? (borrowed phrases from one of my fav movies, Wayne’s World.)This is my way of stating that I feel in my heart that romance is not a one-way street – my way or the highway, so to speak.
However, romance is different for all of us – some want friendship and romance that turns into love, and some want dominance and chains that melt into love.
Hmm, I was curious and looked to the definition of romance.This is what Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary stated:
a (1) : a medieval tale based on legend, chivalric love and adventure, or the supernatural (2) : a prose narrative treating imaginary characters involved in events remote in time or place and usually heroic, adventurous, or mysterious (3) : a love story especially in the form of a novelb : a class of such literature
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/romance
I am vexed – the books I have shut off my Kindle all have romance in the description. I am not saying that they are wrong.I will just have to do more research before hitting the “Buy it in 1-click” button on Amazon. No one’s fault but my own.
I’m curious…
what’s your definition of romance?
Lots of love,
Love, Prejudice, Regrets, Birthdays, THE LIGHT-BEARER SERIES and Thanks…
I love my husband. Yes, I know that’s cliché. And also, I really think my hubby is cute in a “Guido-Geeky” way.My husband is not perfect. I based a lot of Tabbruis, my hero in THE LIGHT-BEARER SERIES, after my husband. In my books, Tabbruis is not comfortable in social situations, and neither is my 150+ I.Q. MENSA husband.
However, Tabbruis loves Charmeine and his family so much, he would do anything to make them happy and protected. To be even more of a believable hero, at times Tabbruis lacks the art of finesse with his wife. He makes mistakes. What one of us can say that we don’t? We all go ‘off the reservation’ once in while.
Dealing with PREJUDICE…
Ever since I was a toddler, I was taught no one is better than me, and I am no better than anyone else.
I have dealt with prejudice on many levels… feeling it, seeing it, and fighting against it.I had hopes that once I got my MBA, which I worked very hard for, I would get a better job… NOT! I found out the GLASS CEILING above my head has be to broken before I can even get a chance to put my MBA to use. It appears some corporate mentalities don’t want to give educated women a chance. That’s not guff, it’s the ‘Unspoken Prejudice’ of the corporate world. I am struggling to have one corporate executive see my potential and prove myself worthy in the Fortune 500 world.
A lot of REGRETS…
I have so many regrets that the light from the ‘Planet Regrets’ can’t reach me.Who of us don’t?
However, here’s where my hope and love will pull me through. If I pay Student Loans until I am 100 years old, and they give me a bill while I am going to the mortuary, I can’t regret my MBA Education. I am the first in my family to have a Graduate Degree, and that means something. I guess I will be buried with my degree in my casket tucked under my satin pillow.
Now onto dreaded BIRTHDAYS…
Argh! Birthdays suck. It’s mine March 2nd, and I am not at all happy about it…
I don’t feel my ageI don’t relate to my age
I can’t even tell you how I hate being labeled with the damaging prejudice of AGEISM. Especially now that I am trying to break the corporate GLASS CEILING mentality. Birthdays are the minefield of the struggling people of the corporate world.
THANKS and generosity of love…
I am so very thankful for my family, the Esparzas and Guidos. My mother and family taught me wonderful lessons in hospitality, hard work, and ethics, and I am ever thankful.
I am thankful to my PDMI Publishing family including TC and Nessa and all talented people there for taking such a chance on me and THE LIGHT-BEARER SERIES.I poured my heart out in THE LIGHT-BEARER SERIES… the Tabbruis and Charmeine Hunter family made of Vampires and Angels fighting evil is now a part of my family. I am jubilant that I get to share my heart with the world – literally. I have fans all over the globe now because PDMI took a chance on me.
