Mom fly to the Angels when you are ready. . .

100_0450Mom has Alzheimer’s and in the final stage on Hospice.
Her death could be in 6 days or 6 months.
She is only on pain killers.
Mom was an Elected Democratic Precinct Committee Woman for 35 years! She worked for several Democratic city officials from Judges to Treasurer.
She and her children, me included, participated in peaceful African-American Marches and Protests.
She also marched with me in an AIDS rally when she was 70 years old!  What a spit-fire she was!
Mom believed in EQUAL RIGHTS for ALL!
Mom taught her eight children that basic rule of life…
We shall treat others with respect and others should treat us with respect… but no one was better than the other.
I saw her at Thanksgiving and made peace with God to take her when she’s ready.
100_0266I’m not religious in any way. I write about Angels but I certainly am not one!
However, I believe there has to be a place for brave and wonderful souls like Mom and Sis, Connie, who passed away of Leukemia at 16.
There just has to be!

Hold your loved ones tight tonight and tell them you love them.
Lots of love to you and yours,
Emily

Mom loved gardening and growing things!
This song is her FAVORITE
Take a minute to rest and listen…

Personal Post… Violence is Violence

I rarely post personal thoughts.
family 1That being said, going home to visit family at Thanksgiving is a double trip as we visit my family, in Southern Indiana, and my husband’s family in Southern Illinois, (miles from Furgeson).
I don’t have an agenda with this post other than to say…
violenceI’m ashamed!
Violence is Violence!
I am passionate about Civil Rights.
I was raised by an AWESOME MOTHER who taught her children this important lesson, which I live by:
NO ONE is better than me, and I am NO BETTER than any one else
Period! All said in that one sentence!
marchonwashingtonWalking in protests as a kid with my Mom for equal rights in the 1960’s, I learned two very important things:

Police are very well-trained in restraining unarmed people.

I also learned what Peaceful Demonstrations are.
However, Violence is Violence!
I’m praying for all involved that we keep in mind the lessons we learned in the 1960’s.
Blackout-Black-Friday-Social-Graphic-1-1-e1416958961766Also, I know we are in the 21st Century, and MONEY, as always, speaks volumes…
Don’t be fooled, if you BOYCOTT by not shopping, your voice and message will be heard.
I’m with my family today, we are watching on television the hordes of people shopping and the protesting miles away from our door step.
Time to turn off our televisions and computers and be with the people we love.
My prayers are with you my friends,
and I wish you…
Lots of Love,

Bathsheba the wicked . . .

Small snippet from SEDITIOUS
287629_213334552052437_100001276809062_616250_6076118_oIn Romania, he paced in front of Bathsheba’s hospital bed, and doubted if he could pull his role off. Tabbruis was assigned to make her divulge information about Lord Cromwell while using sexual attraction and flirtation to get her defenses down.
Tabbruis could not understand how he was duped by the woman in front of him. She was not one tenth the beauty Charmeine was. His arms ached to hold his wife, touch her belly and feel Baby Hunter under his hand. He closed his eyes and whispered a prayer, “God please give me another chance with my wife. Our two hearts are lost and cannot resume beating unless we are together. I was a fool, Lord. She is the only woman I have ever loved.”
He opened his eyes and looked at Bathsheba. He thought, This was not love. I was never in love with her. Our relationship was something sick, dark and Evil, contrived by Lucifer himself!
All of a sudden, he felt a prick on his neck. He turned to find Bathsheba in front of him with her fangs exposed.
6704372_l (1)Bathsheba wiped her red lips with her tongue and smiled with a drop of blood dripping down the side of her mouth. She teased her thick French accent, “You must be getting slower in your reflexes during the years.” Her tongue slowly licked her lip to entice him.
Tabbruis wanted to kill her right where she stood!
His eyes became black on the outside with green pinpoints in the middle. The eye change was not from desire, but from anger! He took a breath and resigned himself with the task he must do to make sure his family was safe.
“Bathsheba, I cannot believe you are alive,” he whispered as he closed his eyes and hugged her. “Why are you here?” He held her face an inch away and trembled with fury. He used all his strength not to destroy her on the spot, and thought, Control Tabbruis, you have to get information from her.
perf5.500x8.500.indd“You have been a naughty boy, Tabbruis, shacking up with a Light-Bearer. The thought of that cow with you makes me sick. Really Tabbruis, you should have a modicum of respect for the Elders.” She flirted with slanted eyes and a smile.
He clenched his teeth and wanted to slap the smile off her face. With his composure recovered, he asked, “Are you hungry Bathsheba? You must be. Let us go and get some refreshment.”
“I would like you to come here.” She sat down on the bed, and patted a spot beside her. With a flip of her long black hair, she flirted, “Tell me what you have been up to, Tabbruis. Where is that fat woman? She was very impressive. The Witch held me without even touching me.”
“Yes, I know, but she is not here now. She became angry, because I stayed by your bedside waiting for you to awaken. You know the type, very jealous?” He was glad Bathsheba did not know about all of Charmeine’s powers.

Bathsheba was pure evil…
a great character to write for!

Blood-Hunters and Light-Bearers, oh my…

463475b7769391a38e68cff2685be507Charmeine handed Shane a cup of coffee. She placed her cup on the table and rubbed her head. Explaining Blood-Hunters and Light-Bearers existed was going to be a tough job.
Tabbruis looked into Shane’s eyes. “First thing you need to know is that our stories will sound strange, but listen to our explanations with a calm mind.” He took a deep breath. “I am an orphan, too. I woke up on a rock in the desert many centuries ago with only the knowledge of my name. I did not know where I was from or how I got there. Charleen understood because that is exactly how it happened to her. However, she cannot remember anything past 1997, except for a dream.”
Charmeine smiled at Shane and nodded her head.
Shane’s piercing blue eyes were suspicious, but when he looked at Charmeine, he acquiesced with a nod. She was not one to bend the truth. Deep in his heart, he knew however fantastic the information was, he could trust her with his life.
Tabbruis wiped his big hand through his dark chestnut hair, “When I woke up, I learned I was not a Human. I needed blood to live on.”
Shane took a quick breath of disgust, looked down and pounded the table. He thought, This is enough crap!
Gut Check“Look at me, Shane,” Charmeine ordered.
He saw her eyes as they flashed with intensity.
“Tab’s telling the truth. I told you he needed blood last night. I don’t lie, and I’m not lying about this.”
Shane crossed his arms in defiance and shook his head.
“You wanted to know what was going on. Now, you can either listen or leave, Shane. I will not tolerate your disrespect. If you want to know the truth, then get rid of the attitude, now.”
Shane noticed her hardened expression. When Char was this determined, she was not a woman to be trifled with. He knew she wasn’t going to take any of his back-talk. He sighed and drank almost all of his coffee. “Okay Tab, Char said something like that last night, but I can’t do this without more coffee.” He got up, poured himself another cup of coffee and sat down. “Go on and talk, man. I have to admit, Char never lies.”
wallstreet-041Tabbruis sighed with a little relief, “Just like your body runs on food. I run on blood. For a long time, I hunted humans to survive. I thought that was my destiny. However, I stopped. I could not inflict harm anymore. I made a conscious choice to only drink animal blood and/or human blood if it was donated.”
Shane opened his eyes wide.
Tabbruis and Charmeine could see his brain starting to process the information.

For some, belief in paranormal is laughable.
When I wrote this scene from
MACTUS,
the 2nd novel in The Light-Bearer Series, I wondered…
How would you react if someone you trusted said they were paranormal?
How far down the Rabbit-Hole would you go?
Lots of love, Emily
Had to rock this one, enjoy the video!

Why do I write?

I couldn’t get this nagging story out of my head.
Books 1 to 3Weekend before Thanksgiving in 2011, I began to write and couldn’t stop. I didn’t sleep for 48 hours. In a week, I had over 100,000 words.
Not being a novelist or a writer, I asked my husband what qualified as a novel. He laughed, “Honey, you have yourself not only a novel, but a series of novels.”
The first three books, Charmeine, Mactus, and Accendo, were simple to write.
6 Conumdrum Book Cover5Ransomperf5.500x8.500.inddBelieve it or not . . .
Writing the next three novels in The Light-Bearer Series was pretty much the same way with Seditious, Ransom, and Conundrum.
People I meet, and my colleagues at work, can’t believe I’m a writer.  It doesn’t become real to them until they see my business card or the book I have handy.
If I could have a dime for all the times I’ve heard, “How did you come up with the idea?” I would be able to pay off my school loan!
But really, do you have to know?
No.
You just have to make the story come to life for yourself and your readers.
It doesn’t matter a hill of beans to me that The Light-Bearer Series is Fantasy and Paranormal.
The characters are what mattered the most to me… Charmeine, Tabbruis, Shane, Dmitri, Neal Thomas etc., nothing else did. I wanted to do right by them. I wanted to give the reader an exact account of how moody Tabbruis can get, and how silly Charmeine’s jokes are.
11-5-2013-9-31-32-am1The Light-Bearer Series centers around two very star-crossed, opposites . . . Tabbruis is a Blood-Hunter who meets Charmeine, who is a Light-Bearer.
The two races are supposed to have a deep-seeded hatred of each other.
However, when Tabbruis and Charmeine meet, they are anything but repulsed and struggle to stay together.
I have to confess, there are two characters in The Light-Bearer Series which are very easy to write for because they are part of me — Charmeine, (heroine) for her faith, acceptance and kindness, and Tabbruis, (hero) for always looking on the darker side from years of being lonely and too much into his self. All the other characters have little aspects of my psyche and beliefs.
How do I make fantasy sound on the fringe of believable?
imagesCA5VWRBNSandraNo one is going to believe my fantasy world exists at the Castle Charmeine, if I don’t have an edge of common facts and beliefs.
Two of my characters are Shane and Sandra, who served in the US War in Iraq. The couple needed to have those skills and characteristics learned in the US Army and being in harm’s way for extended period.
I guess for me, being a fantasy writer is a joy, because the writing can go wherever your mind tells it to.
I do include Heavenly and Hellish aspects in my books. However, the novels are not about religion. It is about love . . . acceptance and steadfast.
I know that the genre of Paranormal Romance is not everyone’s cup of tea.
I’m not going to say I don’t care if people read my book or not.
However, it only takes one . . .
001ja1vCty6G2kGXfiH8bamp690_zps04dd8afcOne person to read The Light-Bearer Series
One person to like The Light-Bearer Series
One person to tell others how they enjoyed The Light-Bearer Series
One person to recommend The Light-Bearer Series.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA I’m always wondering what people think about my little Paranormal Family at the Castle Charmeine.
I don’t usually read reviews.
I just keep my head above water and use my friends for support.
YOU, MY FRIENDS, are my lifelines!
Lots of love, Emily
