“First Kiss…” sweet snippet from “Charmeine” the First Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Creation of Adam.
Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475–1564)
This work is in the public domain in the United States, and those countries with a copyright term of life of the author plus 100 years or less.
Turning around, Charleen looked at him pacing. She said with sweetness in her voice, “Maybe it was Heaven, Tabbruis?”
Tabbruis stopped pacing and stood still. He was warmed hearing his given name coming out of her mouth with such kindness.
She said again, “Tabbruis… maybe it was Heaven?”
Tabbruis walked to her, touched her chin to bring it up, so he could look deep into her brown eyes. Tabbruis said ever so tenderly, “Semper tuus ero… means… I am forever yours.”
Tabbruis’ words were like honey to her. Charleen looked at his eyes of deep green and said, “Those are the most beautiful words I have ever heard, Tabbruis.”
All Tabbruis and Charleen knew was they had a memory. It was before they woke up on the Earth alone. They melted into an embrace.
Tabbruis rested his chin on Charmeine’s head. He said, “Do you want me to call you Charleen or Charmeine?”
She smiled wide, snuggled her head against his chest and said, “I would like you to call me by the name I was born with, Tabbruis.” He smiled and said, “Yes, Charmeine.”
Tabbruis and Charmeine realized they had a past. Together now, for some reason, they were alone no more.
*****
Tabbruis thought of their kiss in the clouds and the way she looked at him. He put his hands on Charmeine’s cheeks and looked deep into her brown eyes. The sun was reflecting her golden hair around her face.Tabbruis could not help it, it was more of a reflex but he leaned down very slowly. He hesitated for what seemed like forever over her lips and kissed her ever so lightly.
Tabbruis had to fight back the urge for his fangs to appear. With that thought, he pulled away from her. Tabbruis wanted to kiss her more but he was unsure of his control.
Charmeine looked at him with a confused look. She shook her head and said, “What’s wrong?”
Tabbruis could see the hurt in her eyes. He said softly, “Charmeine, I do not know if I can control my urges. I do not want to take any chances of hurting you.”
Charmeine said gently putting her hand on his face, “Tabbruis, believe me when I say, I have the same problem. I… don’t know why but I’m drawn to you. You quiet me and stir my passion all at the same time.”
Tabbruis smiled and held her face, “I could not have said it better. That is exactly how I feel about you.”
Tabbruis and Charmeine looked at each other with longing.She made a frown and said, “Well, your hair keeps hanging in your beautiful green eyes.” She looked at his beautiful chestnut hair with all sorts of blonde and red highlights in it and swiped the bangs from his eyes.
His deep green eyes revealed his desire for her; they were black with pin-points of green.
Charmeine blushed all over her body.
Tabbruis could see her body blushing and his want to be with her was more ardent.
“Light cannot have Dark…” SPECIAL excerpt from “Charmeine” the First Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
English: Mount Lycabettus, Athens, Greece. Español: Monte Licabeto, Atenas, Grecia. Ελληνικά: Λυκαβηττός (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
One day a messenger came to the castle of Dmitri and Tabbruis. The Elder Council requested an immediate meeting of all the Elders. Tabbruis could tell Dmitri’s hatred of the Elder Council was great. However, Dmitri was a shrewd man and knew better than anger the Elder Council. Dmitri and Tabbruis left immediately for Athens.
A few days later Dmitri and Tabbruis were standing in the Acropolis Temple in Athens, Greece. The Elder Council had used the area for meetings since before the Grecian people settled there.
The Elder Temple Guards brought in a beautiful young man whose light and life radiated throughout the stone building. The man’s hands were tied behind his back, his face was distorted from beatings and his neck had been ripped open by a Blood-Hunter’s fangs.
Tabbruis wanted to instantly help the poor wretch. Dmitri gripped Tabbruis’ arm firmly whispering to him, “You cannot help this man, to do so would mean your death too.”
Tabbruis said quietly, “Who or what is this man? He gives off a light like the sun.”
Dmitri nodded and whispered, “Yes Tabbruis, he is a Light-Bearer.”
Tabbruis felt empathy for the condemned Light-Bearer and became angry.
Dmitri whispered, “The Light-Bearers are opposite of our species. Their mission from God is to eradicate us as our mission from the Elder Council is to eradicate them.” Dmitri turned and whispered to Tabbruis as not to be heard and said, “The Elders believe the Earth is ours and not to be shared. Now, Tabbruis understand that I do not share that belief.”
Tabbruis whispered, “I do not either Dmitri. I believe the Earth can be shared as long as we let the humans live in peace. Dmitri, we should help the Light-Bearer escape.”

Dmitri whispered while holding Tabbruis’ arms back, “Tabbruis, we would condemn ourselves at the first step we take to the ‘Altar of Judgment.’ Besides, there is a prophecy of a Light-Bearer who will bring peace and harmony to the Blood-Hunters. The Light-Bearer along with a Blood-Hunter will battle Lucifer’s minions on Earth…
Even though my heart breaks for this Light-Bearer, we cannot stop the Elder Council and save him. However, if I would have known, we could have covertly helped the condemned man escape without revealing our identities.
Tabbruis, over the years I have helped many prisoners of the Elder Council escape. That being said, once the Elder Council knows of my covert treachery, I will surely die and therefore not be able to help others. Their reach goes far and wide around the Earth.”
Tabbruis felt disgust and hatred towards the Elder Council and began to understand Dmitri’s abhorrence to them.
Dmitri continued and said, “Also remember this Tabbruis, each species is repellant of each other.
The Light-Bearers believe the light cannot have dark and the Blood-Hunters believe the dark cannot have light.”
Tabbruis thought for a second repeating what he heard, ‘Light cannot have dark and the dark cannot have light.’
With that, the Light-Bearer was ripped to shreds in front of the gathering. The Blood-Hunters roared in amusement.
Tabbruis turning his back on hate…
Dmitri hung his head and looked away with a face as black as night.
Tabbruis felt revulsion and disgust for his race in every cell of his body. He turned his back on the hate.
Tabbruis had misjudged all his life the superiority and confidence he felt over humans. He whispered to Dmitri, “To be one who would slaughter a light like this is to be condemned to the dark always. I am empty.”
After the gathering, Tabbruis began to roam the Earth again. He did not return to Romania for a long time.

As I wrote this passage in the book…
I thought of all the prejudice that our world has.
I particularly am touched by this song and video by Nickelback, because I think of it as an anthem, a call into action.
My hope is that we can embrace the different, the unique and give each other the patience and respect we deserve.

“Eternal Flame…” Very Special Romantic Snippet from “Charmeine” the First Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”
Romeo and Juliet
Ford Madox Brown (1821–1893)
This work is in the public domain in the United States because it was published (or registered with the U.S. Copyright Office) before January 1, 1923.
Tabbruis and Charmeine stood with their defenses down looking at each other.
Tabbruis took Charmeine’s delicate hands into his while he stood in front of her. Vines of white currents began to dance between their hands and she smiled at him.
Tabbruis swallowed hard and said, “Charmeine, I cannot deny it anymore. I am yours.”
Charmeine smiled and said, “I am yours also Tabbruis.”
Tabbruis slowly kissed her and she wrapped her arms around him. He held her tight and said, “We never have to be alone again.”
With the wind at their backs, they turned and went to the bed. They lay on the bed facing each other on their sides. Tabbruis was not going to do anything she did not want to do. He noticed her heart beating very fast and asked, “What is wrong?”
Charmeine replied with a soft voice, “I am just nervous, you know what I mean?”
Tabbruis said, “Yes, I do,” and he let out a big breath like he had been holding it ever since she came in the door. He said, “I think we need to talk,” took a deep breath, “Charmeine, please believe me, you are the first woman…”
Charmeine interrupted him and said, “Shh, no worries.”
Raising his eyebrows Tabbruis said, “May I ask if you have you ever?”
Shaking her head, Charmeine said, “I have never felt like I wanted to give myself to anyone.”
Tabbruis said with great relief, “I have to confess, I felt the same.”
Charmeine smiled sweeping his bangs from his face and said, “Tabbruis, I think devotion is about commitment, affection and passion, not the mechanics of the act.”
Tabbruis looked into her eyes and said, “It calms me to know you feel that way, Charmeine.”
While they were facing each other, Tabbruis took her hand and put it close to their faces. The tendrils and sparks lit up and they both smiled.
Tabbruis said, “I have been waiting for someone to make me feel alive and ignite a light inside of me.”
Charmeine said, “Tabbruis, since you have come into my life, I have had an inferno in me which I never had before. I don’t know why, but it’s there now burning and raging inside of me.”
Tabbruis leaned over and started kissing Charmeine softly and she ran her fingers through his hair and reveled in the touch of his lips on hers more than anything.
Tabbruis and Charmeine pulled away from each other and began to hold each other’s hand and this time the hand did not give off sparks but white but lazy curls and tendrils of light coming off of their hands. Charmeine said, “I am happy, and I think the light knows.”
Tabbruis took a big swallow and said, “I am going to tell you some things which have been weighing on my mind. Please do not talk, just let me get everything out I want to say.” He sighed and held her hand tightly.Tabbruis said, “I have been in such turmoil because I did not know how our relationship would work. You being a Light-Bearer and I being a Blood-Hunter; however, that is just secondary to me now. The first and foremost thing on my mind is the fact I want you in my life always. I am totally committed to you. I never want to live another day without you in it.
You, Charmeine, are the breath that fills my lungs, my eyes that let me see eternity without being sad, and my heart which beats now only to make you happy. My flame for you is eternal and it will never burn out. Time will never erase our feelings for one another.
And Charmeine, there will time when all be right, when all the fears we both have will dissipate. We will then be able to free ourselves. The uncertainties will no longer exist. For now, please let me hold your body next to mine tonight? Just reflect on what I have said because I do not say these things lightly.”
Charmeine began to tear.
Tabbruis held out his arm and patted his chest beckoning her head to rest there. Charmeine smiled and nestled her head on his chest while her body snuggled up against his. Tabbruis felt her tears fall like droplets on his skin. Each tear was a baptism to him. He was washed clean in her love. Tabbruis knew then Charmeine loved him. Tabbruis stroked her head comforting her. Charmeine was exhausted and with one final sob she cried herself to sleep.
Tabbruis looked down once she was asleep and saw her face, and unbelievably, she had a smile on it. Her blond hair lit up when the moonlight reached it. Her hair was across his arm and chest and the heat from her touch soothed him.
Tabbruis made a low growl of contentment and fell asleep with her tightly woven in his arms.

“Listen to Your Heart” snippet from “Charmeine” the First Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”
Rosa Celeste: Dante and Beatrice gaze upon the highest Heaven, The Empyrean. This work is in the public domain in the United States because it was published (or registered with the U.S. Copyright Office) before January 1, 1923.
Tabbruis turned his almost black eyes to her and yelled, “I am not angry for what you did, Charmeine.”
After a long pause, he shouted, “God, I am so angry!”
Tabbruis breathed hard and yelled, “I am heartbroken at what you would do!”
*****
Charmeine understood now… Tabbruis knew!
Charmeine’s eyes left his. She turned toward the Black Sea and saw how it was crashing into the rocks below.
Tabbruis opened his mouth to speak, but he thought better of it because all he had to say to her was, ‘Do not go! How could you leave me?’ He walked away and stood up against the door jamb with his legs apart and his arms over his chest. Tabbruis set his jaw with his lips pressed in a straight line. His eyes were green but now almost black with anger and desire.
Charmeine could almost feel his eyes penetrating her heart.
Charmeine swallowed and took a deep breath looking out at the sea and said, “God, I will never get used to those superpowers of yours. How did you know? No, that doesn’t matter. What does matter is you know the truth. It is what must be done for my family and friends to survive.” Charmeine went into the bedroom and got her messenger bag to leave.
Tabbruis quickly took her messenger bag and put it down on the dresser.
He said, “Charmeine if I mean anything to you, you will listen to me.”
Charmeine knew Tabbruis would never accept her death but it would not stop her from saving her family.
Charmeine yelled, “Damn it, you will let me go Tabbruis!” She went out on the porch to be away from him but also to get her courage to leave. She shouted, “Tabbruis, you listen to me! You can’t imprison me in a cage! You will lose me if you stop me. I have made up my mind. I have free will! Nothing and no one will stop me from my conviction to save you all!”
Tabbruis shouted back, “Do you think I would ever let you go like a lamb to slaughter?”
Charmeine shook her head and turned around facing the sea and answered, “It’s me they want. If I go, you all will be saved.”
With more composure, Tabbruis walked to her and held her to face catching her tears with his thumbs.
Charmeine knew he was more in control because his eyes were almost green now.
As Tabbruis’ eyes welled with tears, he said, “My love, do you not know I cannot exist without you. If you go, I might as well be slaughtered too because my existence on this Earth is only bearable because you are with me.”
Charmeine started to cry intensely and said, “But I don’t know how else to make sure my family and friends are safe.”
Tabbruis and Charmeine
“Listen to Your Heart”
While he put his hand on her chin drawing her eyes to his, he said, “Charmeine, do you not know of how we are connected? I do not know what happened on that dark day in Heaven to separate us, and now, I do not care. What only matters now is that we are together. My strength is your strength. My life is your life. My existence depends on your existence…” Tears ran down Tabbruis’ cheeks. He said, “Sacrifice yourself if you think it right, but then they will have to lay my dead body next to yours in the grave; I will go where you go because we are one.”
Charmeine said, “Oh God, help me. I know you are right. I love you so much. How could I have ever thought…? I’m so sorry to have hurt you Tabbruis.” Through her sobs, she said, “But how can we defeat them? The Elder Council will find us one day and kill us for sure.” Her head hung down and said, “The senselessness of this is so defeating. At least if I die, no one else has to die.”
Tabbruis shook his head and said, “No. We can defeat them but we have to use our greatest weapon.” He took her hand and it was sparking all the way up his arm. He sat her on the patio couch. Tabbruis gently kissed her and said in a whisper, “Our weapon.”
Charmeine began to wonder what weapon he was talking about, was it her shock waves or his strength and speed? What weapon? Then Tabbruis smiled and tugged her chin lightly, “My dear, our greatest weapon is our love. From the bottom of my heart I know this. What God has joined, no one can put asunder, Charmeine. We were joined in Heaven. God made me for you, and you were made for me.” He took her hand and put it on his bare chest, “Do you feel my heart beating with yours? It does. No one can defeat us as long as we are together and love each other.”
Charmeine knew love truly was a very powerful weapon. She said, “So you really think it’s possible to end this with our family intact?”
Tabbruis said, “If we stand together with God, yes.”

Just like in this snippet today, haven’t we all had a fight with our love one that we knew it wasn’t what it seemed?
Sometimes…we have to listen to our hearts.
We may not like the answer, but our heart always tells us the right path to be on.
Hug your loved one today!

(Author’s note: Charleen doesn’t know that she’s Charmeine…yet!)
Tabbruis’ heart fell into Hell!
His body began to tense all over like a taut rubber band. Tabbruis took his hand down from her head, moved across the seat as far as he could and looked out the window. He put his hands on his knees and then made them into hard fists. Tabbruis thought, ‘I cannot believe this woman, this beauty, the face of my dreams, was indeed a Light-Bearer!’
Tabbruis had confirmation now. She incapacitated the Blood-Hunter with her stun. Tabbruis knew what his course would have to be now and felt lonelier than he ever had before in all the millennia he had been on Earth!
Tabbruis closed his eyes and quietly screamed a curse, ‘Oh God! Why? Why did I meet this woman and never have the possibility of being with her?’ Tabbruis knew Light-Bearers were mortal enemies of the Blood-Hunters and vice-versa.
All Tabbruis could hear was his memory of Dmitri saying:
“They are opposite of our species. Their mission is to eradicate us as our mission is to eradicate them. The Elders believe the Earth is ours and not to be shared.
Light cannot have dark and dark cannot have light Tabbruis.”
Tabbruis thought, ‘How could the Elder Council think about murdering this young, beautiful woman? She has a light so pure it warms me from inside out.’
He could not understand how the Elder Council could hate such wonderful gifts of God.
Painfully, Tabbruis turned his head again toward her. With a distressed expression, he looked at her. She looked hurt he had pulled away from her. She was trying to give the pretense she did not care. She looked away this time. Tabbruis closed his eyes and turned his head toward the window.
The air between them was thick with attraction, want and desire! No matter how badly Tabbruis wished to pull away, he could not.
Slowly, like two magnets on opposite sides of the car seat, their appeal was too strong and their heads turned bit by bit. They began staring at each other again with longing.
Shane thought Charleen was suffering from a concussion and didn’t pay attention to the electricity part. He just nodded his head and said, “Well, Char… that’s pretty well out there babe but whatever, you are okay now, and that’s what matters. Thanks Tab, I owe you one.”
Tabbruis nodded his head not taking his eyes off her.
Tabbruis asked, “Shane? How do you know Miss Davis?”
Shane replied, “Oh yeah… Char is my best friend! She was the one I was telling you about?”
Not taking his eyes off her, Tabbruis answered, “The friend who kept you on the straight and narrow?”
Shane responded, “Yep, she sure is! We have been friends ever since she came to the orphanage as a teenager. She hasn’t changed at all since the first day I saw her in the yard. Char was sitting on a bench looking scared and lonely. I was going up with a gang of guys to tease her. However, as soon as I saw her eyes, I made the guys turnaround and leave her alone. I was going down a bumpy road with the gang always getting into trouble. Char got my shit straight and made me see I needed to be a good person. She’s gotta a way of making you do the right thing.”
Tabbruis thought, ‘She’s Gotta Way…’
Shane continued and said, “Char can settle down a football stadium and make them work together if she wanted to. She has influence on everyone and especially me.”
Tabbruis took his eyes off of her and looked at Shane in the rear view mirror and asked in a dead pan voice, “Did the two of you date?”
Charleen quickly laughed out a reply along with Shane, and they both yelled, “NO!”
Tabbruis instantly felt relief with their reply. He turned and looked at her again. They both held the stare looking at each other in the eyes.
Charleen said, “Oh my God! Too funny! Shane is my best friend. Plus he is younger than me.”
Shane laughed and said, “Yeah, Char is like my big sister. She was the best friend who kept bailing me out of trouble. Never once have I ever thought of her in that way… Blah!”
Charleen said, “Same here, it gives me the heebee geebees just thinking about it! Yuck!”
Charmeine and Tabbruis
“For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo” ~Shakespeare
Still looking at Tabbruis getting lost in his green eyes, she muttered, “Yes, I really had my hands full bailing you out of trouble all the time.”
Tabbruis asked her, “Where were you born Miss Davis?”
Charleen’s face became noticeably hurt. She hung her head down looking at her hands while she squeezed the handkerchief he had given her for her head. Charleen said shyly, “I don’t know. I was found roaming the streets outside Holbrook, barely clothed and hungry when I was teenager.”
Tabbruis was still watching her intently.
Still looking down, Charleen had tears welling in her eyes and they were dropping on her hands.
Tabbruis longed to touch the tears and wipe them away.

NO Song reminds me more of the first boy I ever crushed on …
1974… listening to “The Way We Were” blushing while we danced…
This song is a tribute to you… Shane!
Mmm. Mmm.
Memories, light the corners of my mind
Misty watercolor memories of the way we were.
Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we give to one another
For the way we were.
Can it be that it was all so simple then
Or has time rewritten every line?
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me would we? Could we?
Memories, may be beautiful and yet
What’s too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So it’s the laughter we will remember
Whenever we remember
The way we were.

Tabbruis finished feeding Charmeine and her face became pink and perfect. She opened her eyes slightly whispering, “Tabbruis?”
Tabbruis held her hand and whispered in her ear, “Everything is fine my love, you are safe.”
Charmeine said, “No, Shane… is he okay?”
Tabbruis smiled and said, “Oh yes, my love, he is fine. Everyone is safe. You will be fine, Charmeine, just rest for a while now. We will talk later. I am right here with you my love. Sleep and dream a little dream of me this time. I will be holding you when you awake.”
Charmeine nodded and smiled. She drifted off to sleep with a little grin on her beautiful face.
Never taking his hands off her, Tabbruis got up and sat on the couch putting her head on his lap.
Softly Neal said, “If you do not mind Tabbruis, please allow the flight attendant to clean and change Charmeine’s clothes.”
Tabbruis nodded and said, “Yes, but I will be the one to do it. Just ask the flight attendant to bring her travel bag. I will need some towels, soap, warm water and privacy while I clean her.”
Neal made the arrangements and left the room, so they could have privacy. The flight attendant brought in a few bowls of soapy warm water and towels. She also brought in Charmeine’s travel bag. Then Tabbruis asked her to leave.
Turning to Charmeine on the couch, Tabbruis said with a tear in his eye, “I guess I am the one to give you privacy now.” He looked at her beautiful face while he took off the ripped turtle-neck and bloody camisole.
Tabbruis gently cleaned her removing the blood on her body and in her hair.
Never looking anywhere except her face, he dried her off and took another camisole out of the bag and put it on her.
He thought, ‘Her rose lotion she liked so much, did she pack it?’ Reaching in the bottom of the bag, he found it.Tabbruis knew she loved the rose scent and rubbed it on her tanned arms.
The smell of roses brought back a collage of memories of Charmeine. The first night he saw her, while he was carrying her to the limo, he smelled roses. The nights he held her, she had put it on right before she came to bed.
Charmeine was intoxicating to him. Her love of roses reminded him of her love, purity and beauty.
Tabbruis found a thin zipper hoodie, and carefully put it on her.
Charmeine’s jeans were soaked with blood and his stomach turned when he thought about what the Blood-Hunter wanted to do to her.
Just looking at her face, he took off her tennis shoes and gently unbuttoned and unzipped her jeans.
While doing this, he said, “I never thanked you for the way you treated me last night. No one, Charmeine…” and he held back tears “has ever treated me with such kindness and tenderness, but you offered it to me like you have an ocean of it to give.”
Still looking into her face, he slid the jeans off keeping her panties in place. Tabbruis reached in the bag and pulled out a pair of yoga pants. He put them on her while looking at her face and then put her shoes back on.
Tabbruis and Charmeine
Tabbruis made sure all the blood was off of her, and she was clean and perfect.
He took out her hair brush and began to brush her soft golden hair. It was beautiful and it curled around her face. He held it in his hands and thought it really was like spun honey.
He put the brush back in the bag. Tabbruis sat back on the couch and put her head back on his lap.
Tabbruis thanked God that Charmeine was brought back from death into his loving arms.

As an Author, there are aspects of my writing that hit home in my heart.

Enjoy and give your loved one a special hug today!
From Boston – Livin’ For You…
Livin’ without you never could be so wrong
Don’t need to say it, I never waited so long
Thinking about yo in everthing I do
Love for giving
You know I’m just livin’ for you
And I, I never needed to lie
Can’t you see I believe in my heart when I’m saying
It’s love that you see
You’re just the one for me
I’m praying
Maybe I’m dreaming, don’t want to wake up now
Baby, I love you, I always knew it somehow
Happened so easy, don’t need to think it through
It’s not so amazing
Been going so crazy for you
Dreaming and hoping, hoping that dreams come true
You’re my religion, girl, I’ve been living for you
Don’t want to fight it, tried everything I know
I won’t deny it
You’re everywhere I try to go
And I, I never needed to lie
Can’t you see I believe in my heart when I’m saying
It’s love that you see
You mean the world to me
I’m praying for you
Knew it so easy, don’t have to think it through
Love is for giving
I know I’m just livin’ for you
Love is for giving
I know I’m just livin’ for you

“Thank you for loving me…” special SENTIMENTAL snippet from “Charmeine” the First Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”

2011, Bleff
Tabbruis was still sleeping.
Charmeine saw he was healing fast. Quietly she got up and took out her cell phone out of her messenger bag. She went out the living room to call Shane. She informed him Tabbruis was out of the woods and sleeping and said she would call him if she needed anything.
Charmeine came back into the Master Bedroom. After putting down her cell phone on the nightstand, she opened the New York Harbor patio doors and felt a gentle breeze. Charmeine touched the place on her neck where Tabbruis had fed off of her blood. She became flushed thinking about the experience. She tried to quash her feelings thinking it was just too much for her to handle right now.
Even though Charmeine had her bathing suit top and jeans on, she was hot. She took off her shoes and wiggled her toes. As Tabbruis slept, she looked at him intently. She wanted to remember everything about him. Charmeine had always cared about people, but never had she felt this way about anyone. The feelings he stirred in her were new. She wanted him, wanted him more than anything else in the world. Tabbruis was the first man she had ever wanted to give herself to. But for right now, his recovery was all that mattered.
As Charmeine was looking at Tabbruis, his eyes began to flutter. Charmeine ran to the bed and knelt beside him stroking his face. She said, “Are you alright? Do you need more blood?”
Tabbruis shook his head and said faintly, “No, the bleeding has stopped.”
Charmeine smiled and kissed his cheek softly. She said, “That’s good. I’ll be right back.” She went into the Master Bathroom and closed the door. Charmeine started the garden tub and put some shampoo in the water for lots of bubbles. When it was full enough, she stopped the water. She came back into the bedroom.

Gently Charmeine said to Tabbruis, “You need a bath. Can you help me get you in there?” Tabbruis nodded. She got him up and held him while he leaned on her to get into the bathroom. She sat him on the ledge of the tub. Tabbruis was taken aback and did not know what to do. Charmeine sensed his distress and said, “Please trust me.” and he nodded very shyly.
Charmeine went to the night table and got the scissors. When she came back to the bathroom, he looked at her with his eyebrows raised with a questioning look. She shook her head, laughed and said, “Geez Louise! You think I saved your life to kill you now? Really? Too funny! You need to get a grip!”
Tabbruis started to chuckle and she smiled wide. Charmeine said, “That’s music to my ears. I love it when you laugh Tabbruis.”
Tabbruis said in a strained voice, “That is exactly how I feel when you laugh.”
Still cutting the bandages off of him Charmeine said, “Oh yeah, what did the Light-Bearer say to the Blood-Hunter at a barbecue?”
He said, “What?”
Charmeine made a penalty buzzing sound and said, “Eh; the Light-Bearer said to the Blood-Hunter at the barbecue, how would like your steak rare, medium or well-done? You know… lightning cooking stuff at a barbecue? You know?”
Tabbruis shook his head laughing and said weakly, “That has got to be the worst joke I have ever heard in my life!”
Charmeine said, “Yeah? Well when I need a joke one day, you can tell me a bad one!”
Tabbruis smiled said, “I do not know any jokes.”
Smiling and snickering, Charmeine said, “Neither do I!”
Tabbruis laughed and said, “Case in point, the joke you just told me!”
Charmeine rolled her eyes at him and sarcastically said, “Ha, Ha! Funny man.” Charmeine finally had all the bandages off. She smiled saying in her Schwarzenegger impression, “I’ll be back!” She gathered up all the bloody linens and took them to the hall closet and put them in the hamper. When Charmeine came back she took a hold of the string of Tabbruis’ bathing suit and said, “I’m just loosening the string on your suit, so when you get in the water, you can get it off.”
Tabbruis shook his head and said faintly, “Not like this.”
Charmeine said to him gently, “Of all things Tabbruis, I want to give you as much privacy as I can. Just think of me as a nurse, this is clinical. This is not sexual.”
Tabbruis shook his head and said quietly, “I have always taken care of myself.”
Tabbruis wanted her but not like this, weak and tired.
Charmeine said, “Listen you need my care, period. I know the tough guy act plays a lot of points with the ladies, but this is not about sex or masculinity. Now, please look into my eyes. Have I ever lied to you? Do you not trust me? There is nothing about this except you need a bath. Just look into my eyes and everything will be okay. Trust me, I will respect your privacy, believe me. However, you need a bath, so get your butt in that tub, now!”
Tabbruis looked at her with a grimace, and she mockingly returned his grimace by one of her own. She said softly, “Now, swing your legs over, and I’ll help lower you in the tub.”
Once Tabbruis was in the bubble-filled tub, she said, “Suit please?” and she held out her hand. Without looking anywhere else except in Tabbruis’ eyes, he handed her the suit. She took the suit and put it in the hamper in the hallway. When Charmeine returned, she looked in his eyes. She knelt by the tub. Charmeine took the washcloth and soap and started to rub them together.
Charmeine knew Tabbruis was weak and kept her eyes focused on his eyes saying, “I’m going to clean you, if I wash you too hard, let me know. You have so many wounds; it’s going to be hard to tell.”
Keeping eye contact with Tabbruis, she took the soapy washcloth and gently washed his arms, chest and back, being especially delicate with the wounds or at least the ones she could see. While looking his eyes, Charmeine put some shampoo in her hands and washed and rinsed his hair.
Thank You for Loving Me Charmeine
Seeing the water was all bloody, Charmeine looked at Tabbruis in the eyes, released the drain and started replacing the bloody water with clean water and put shampoo in the water for bubbles.
Tabbruis could not believe all the time she gave him a bath; she only looked in his eyes. Charmeine respected his privacy like she said she would.
She leaned over and put a fresh clean towel behind his head like a pillow and lovingly said, “Tabbruis, lean back now and please close your eyes for a few minutes; rest and be calm…”

“Thank You For Loving Me”
It’s hard for me to say the things
I want to say sometimes
There’s no one here but you and me
And that broken old street light
Lock the doors
We’ll leave the world outside
All I’ve got to give to you
Are these five words tonight
[Chorus:]
Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn’t see
For parting my lips
When I couldn’t breathe
Thank you for loving me
Thank you for loving me
I never knew I had a dream
Until that dream was you
When I look into your eyes
The sky’s a different blue
Cross my heart
I wear no disguise
If I tried, you’d make believe
That you believed my lies
[Chorus:]
Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn’t see
For parting my lips
When I couldn’t breathe
Thank you for loving me
You pick me up when I fall down
You ring the bell before they count me out
If I was drowning you would part the sea
And risk your own life to rescue me
[Solo]
Lock the doors
We’ll leave the world outside
All I’ve got to give to you
Are these five words tonight
[Chorus:]
Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn’t see
You parted my lips
When I couldn’t breathe
Thank you for loving me
When I couldn’t fly
Oh, you gave me wings
You parted my lips
When I couldn’t breathe
Thank you for loving me

(Author’s Note: Charleen is Charmeine… she just doesn’t know it yet!)
Tabbruis knew coming to the Billy Joel concert was a farce of major proportion on his part. There would be a mass of humans there and the temptation of being in such a close proximity to them was hard to overcome. However, for some reason… Tabbruis wanted to be here. As Shane held the limo car door open for Tabbruis, he was hit hard by the smell of human blood. He could feel all the hearts beating in anticipation for the concert.
Like a heard of sheep going to be slaughtered, his mouth watered at the possibility of gorging on the humans’ blood. He swallowed hard and concentrated on getting to the VIP seats Mr. Ferrell arranged for Shane and himself.

As soon as the music started, Tabbruis forgot about his thirst. All the audience was on their feet when Billy Joel came out to a thunderous crowd.
Tabbruis smiled and thought, ‘If humans had no problems showing this much affection and admiration for each other, then why they were so hell bent on destroying others different from themselves?’ Tabbruis was lost in thought looking over the vast crowd enjoy the songs and clap to the rhythm of the music. His heart was a little less heavy as he saw the enjoyment of the fans. The beat of the fans’ hearts was skipping and playing in unison with the music from the stage.
Suddenly like an alarm, Tabbruis felt it! He knew instantly a shadow was there. One like him! A Blood-Hunter! Tabbruis did not know where they were, but he knew he had to seek the other Elder out. Tabbruis did not want a blood bath at this joyous event. Blood-Hunters knew revealing themselves to humans was forbidden by the Elder Council. He could not fathom why the Blood-Hunter would kill out in the open like this. He thought, ‘This shadow… this Blood-Hunter was very bold. If the Elder Council found out, he would be executed for doing such a heinous thing.’ Like an automatic GPS alarm through his blood, Tabbruis was tracking the Blood-Hunter in his mind.
Tabbruis turned to Shane and said, “I will meet you at the limo after the concert. I have to do something.”
Shane started to ask questions, but when Tabbruis looked into his eyes, a hypnotic effect lingered in his eyes. Shane knew not to question and nodded, “Yes, no worries man, see you later.”
Tabbruis started to push through the crowd trying to get to the shadow; he knew the Elder would spill human blood if he was not stopped immediately.

Charleen was up on her feet in the nose-bleed section, the top of the stands, clapping and singing along with everyone else. She held her cell phone up when Billy Joel started singing, ‘Scenes from an Italian Restaurant,’ and Charleen began to sway. The concert was just like she pictured it would be. She looked up at the stars. They were in full bloom and the canopy of the stage was enveloped by the speckled darkness. Charleen gasped with delight when she saw how beautiful the moon was over the ocean.
Closing her eyes, Charleen almost could feel the piano hammers hit the strings of the Bösendorfer grand piano which Billy Joel was playing. She thought, ‘It must be a 290 Imperial model! The Bösendorfer sound is always incredible.’ Charleen was a pianist through high school. She had a natural knack for it. Even though she couldn’t remember how she had learned to play the piano.
When Charleen went to Stony Brook University, she worked to put herself through school. She didn’t find much time to play piano. However, Charleen would sneak in the music rooms at the university. One room had an older 130 CL Bösendorfer which was upright. Charleen would come early in the morning or late at night to play it.
Charleen loved music. She found music to a constant companion and a wonderful haven to escape to when she was troubled. Charleen constantly had the CD player going when she was alone at home or in the car driving.She didn’t like TV unless it was to watch old romantic comedy movies with Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart. She hated commercial television. Charleen never watched the news because it was too depressing. She certainly didn’t need to fuel depression inside of her with the news.
The Billy Joel concert was awesome, and Charleen sighed knowing this joy would be over soon.
From out of nowhere, a dark presence enveloped her. She looked to around and everyone else was clapping and singing along. Charleen began to have an overwhelming feeling of dread. She didn’t know where the dark feeling was coming from. Then like a vice grip on her throat, the crowd felt oppressive. Charleen knew something wasn’t right.

The Blood-Hunter’s cell buzzed. Before he could get a chance to say hello, he heard, “Why did you not complete the task I gave you?”
The Blood-Hunter softly answered, “Because I got interrupted by a hero Blood-Hunter, that is why. The freak was defending her and then she threw her lightning at me.”
Pascal the leader of the Elder Council said, “I need her, and your job is to see she makes it to Athens. Post-haste!”
The Blood-Hunter said, “Well that’s going to happen shortly. I have them staked out. She won’t get away. They can’t run from me. I’m the best hunter in the US.”
“Well, apparently you are not as accomplished as you claim to be. However, she is essential to my plans. I want her. I always get what I want. Do you understand? If you cannot do the task because of this Blood-Hunter, get some more help!” Pascal censured the Blood-Hunter and hung up on him.
“Damn it!” the Blood-Hunter said as he closed his phone. He looked at the trio as they were packing up about 300 yards away from him. He said, “You can run baby, but you cannot hide.”

As the sunset came and went, Tabbruis, Charmeine and Shane all started to pack up the Charger to go back to the hotel. It was getting colder on the beach. They dressed in jeans and tennis shoes. Charmeine put on a thin zipper hoodie and Tabbruis and Shane put on T-shirts. Going to the car with the last beach bags, Tabbruis put them on the floor of the back seat. Tabbruis stole a sweet, soft, kiss from Charmeine by the car.
Shane grunted, rolled his eyes and slumped down behind the steering wheel yelling out to them, “Come on guys, there’s only so much public display a guy can take, especially when it’s from his best friend. I mean Tab; she is like my big sister. Yuck…”
Charmeine and Tabbruis both stopped and said together in a sing, song voice, “Sorry Shane.”
Shane said, “Very funny guys, very funny.” Hiding their hands from Shane, they held hands with the white light swirling around them and were giggling like teenagers.
Just then, Tabbruis’ early warning system went off! His green eyes turned black and pushed Charmeine back against the car and yelled, “Get in the car now!”
Tabbruis looked at Shane in the eye. The message was received immediately! Shane got out and grabbed Charmeine and threw her in the front seat.
Shane pulled down the back seat of the Charger and shouted, “Tab! I have a weapon here.”
Tabbruis saw Shane pull out an automatic rifle. Tabbruis said, “Guns are not very effective against them, but guns can slow them up. Good thinking.” Tabbruis grabbed the rifle.
Charmeine said, “What’s going on? What’s happening?”
Tabbruis reached his hand over the seat touching her face and said, “It only took one look of your face to give me peace.”Charmeine got the point, the Blood-Hunter was back and Tabbruis would sacrifice himself to protect her. Tabbruis said sternly to Charmeine, “Stay with Shane! You have to be safe!”
Tabbruis turned to Shane and said, “Listen to me, there is a man named, Dmitri, his number is programmed in my cell.” Tabbruis threw the phone in his beach bag, “Dmitri will make sure whatever is required to keep you both protected!” Then Tabbruis put his hand on Shane’s shoulder and said, “Get her as far as away from here as you can.”

Dmitri laughed and replied, “Elders are what the Blood-Hunters call themselves. We have been on the Earth for so long, Elders is a name which we use to describe ourselves.”
Tabbruis’ head was whirling from all this information. Stunned and shocked, he said, “I… I have no words to say. This is overwhelming! There are people like me?”
Again Dmitri laughed, wiped his eyes and answered, “Oh yes, my young brother, there are many!”
All of a sudden, Dmitri’s face became dark as night and his voice were strained when he said, “There is also a ruling body over all the Blood-Hunters or Elders known as the Elder Council. They are evil and debased. I am afraid they will not come to justice for many more years to come. There is an edict of the Elder Council to not become noticeable to the humans because our discovery would make their hunt and gathering of humans harder.” Tabbruis looked at Dmitri and noticed his immense hatred for the Elder Council and wondered why. Dmitri covered his eyes with his hand and pinched the bridge of his nose.
Then with a sigh and a forced smile, Dmitri said, “I, myself, even though I do not hunt humans, have come under speculation by the people who live here.”
After taking another drink, Tabbruis said, “Why Dmitri?”
Dmitri grimaced and got up and went to the big picture window. Tabbruis could tell he was gazing at the full moon. Not turning around to show his pain, he answered, “After my family was killed in Greece, I came here for solitude.”
With real remorse for his new friend, Tabbruis said, “Your family? Killed? How? How did you have a family?”
In a voice like a whisper Dmitri replied, “I will tell you Tabbruis, but not today.”
Tabbruis did not know what to think. Then he asked, “Why did you come here Dmitri?”
With a palpable sadness, Dmitri answered, “Mostly to get away to ease my heavy heart. However, when I came here, the people were barbarous compared to the idealistic and orderly Grecian race. To keep order here, I used to command a small contingent of soldiers in this area. However, I chose to move away from law-keeping because of the local people’s suspicion of me grew over time. A few times Tabbruis, I have narrowly escaped their wrath.”
Dmitri smiled as he walked back to his chair and said, “The local people have made a false legend about me and my exploits. It is rather an enjoyable scary bedtime story. They call me ‘Dracul’ a Romanian connotation of ‘The Dragon’. Because of myth and lore, I just go out under cover of night to gather my meals.”
Fascinated and eager to know more, Tabbruis asked, “If you would allow me, may I stay with you and learn? I have so many questions.”
With a big smile and a pat on the back, Dmitri replied, “My brother, as long as we are in agreement no humans will die at our hands for thirst, you may stay here and call my castle your home too. However, I will caution you. The danger to you from the Elder Council, other evil soldiers of Lucifer and the humans are great.”
Tabbruis made a questioning look and said, “Other evil soldiers?”
Dmitri said with a grin, “Oh my… you have been secluded. Yes, Tabbruis, there are many forms of Evil which Lucifer has put on Earth. You have probably encountered them and just never knew it. The Earth’s most sinister days in eras past have been because of Lucifer’s demons or Blood-Hunters like you and me.”
Tabbruis was amazed and asked, “So Lucifer has a supernatural criminal force on Earth?”
English: Olympias was a Greek princess of Epirus, daughter of king Neoptolemus I of Epirus, the fourth wife of the king of Macedonia, Philip II, and mother of Alexander the Great. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Dmitri grimaced, got up, and started to pace the floor and answered, “Yes there is Tabbruis. For example, it was an Evil minion of Lucifer which put into motion the assassination of King Philip II. You see, in 359 B.C. Philip II became king of Macedonia. He conquered much of Greece. He brought a mix of cultures and justice to many lawless lands. His murder occurred during October of 336 B.C., at Aegae, the ancient capital of Macedon. The court had gathered there for the celebration of the marriage between Alexander I of Epirus and Philip’s daughter, by his fourth wife, Olympias. King Phillip wanted to make sure he was approachable to the Greek diplomats, so when he entered into the town’s theater, he was unprotected…”
Tabbruis became angry and his face became black as night. He interrupted Dmitri and said, “Yes… King Phillip was killed by Pausanias of Orestis, one of his seven bodyguards. Pausanias tried to escape but he was pursued by some of Philip’s bodyguards and killed…” Tabbruis turned to Dmitri said with a scowl, “Dmitri, I was one of those bodyguards…”
Tabbruis hand shook with anger as he gripped his hilt of his sword and continued as he said, “I did feel something was not right that day. I was worrisome over the fact King Philip was going into the theatre unprotected. I felt like a tiger which had been caged. Alexander, his son, was so young to succeed to the throne. However, Alexander was a fine King and successor. I followed Alexander into Persia during his campaigns. I wept when Alexander the Great died in Babylon of sickness… God, Dmitri… he was only 32. I protected Alexander the Great out of loyalty to King Philip.”
Tabbruis got up and stirred the logs of the fire to make them burn thoroughly.
Dmitri said with a disturbed voice, “I am truly sorry Tabbruis. King Philip did not deserve the death he was administered, but you must believe all was put in motion by Lucifer’s minion.”
Tabbruis put down the poker and sat down next in the chair across from Dmitri. They looked into the fire and both sighed at the loss of such a great man and his son.
Dmitri turned to Tabbruis and said with a serious and black face, “Tabbruis… listen carefully to what I have to say now…
Never underestimate ignorance and intolerance; they are the worse plagues on the Earth. Lucifer can weave his followers to make humans evil and debased. Most of the calamities which befall the Earth by human hands are from ignorance and intolerance.”
