5 Star Review for AUTHOR JAMIE RUSH and her new book DRAGON MINE
My review of Jamie Rush’s DRAGON MINERight off the bat Kirin Slade is informed of his father’s disappearance. This sets in motion his investigation into what happened.
Once at home, he literally is hit by his long lost love Ellie. Soon he finds her father is missing also. Demons at their doorstep are hindering their investigation in how or why these men are gone.
Can Kirin control his Dragon inside of himself while his love Ellie is around? Magic and mystery is everywhere they go.
My Thoughts about DRAGON MINE
The picture on the front of the novel DRAGON MINE is luscious and sexy, but it doesn’t come close to how Rush describes Kirin Slade… oh my!
The action, suspense, romance and paranormal activity in this novel, DRAGON MINE by Author Jamie Rush was captivating. I was pulled into the story immediately. The scenes are fluid and the dialogue is believable. The mystery behind this novel is what grabs you by the shirt and drags you to finish the book.
Of course, I am a romantic and Rush does not fail the tension between Kirin and Ellie is there from the get-go. She entices us with thoughts from Kirin and Ellie. Rush is undeniably sly in the way she weaves these two great characters into a mission.
FIVE STARS, and I highly recommend all to read and enjoy Jamie Rush’s Dragon Mine!

DRAGON MINE Teaser!
Who in Dragon’s fire was calling at six on a Sunday morning? Kirin Slade fumbled for his cell phone and squinted at the screen. His twin sister.
The word “Yeah?” scratched out of his throat.
“You have to come home,” Lyra said without preamble. “Pop’s gone.”
“Oh, is there a celebration then?”
“Kirin! I don’t mean he’s run off to the Bahamas. He’s been missing for 2 days, and it’s not some mid-life crisis. He would never abandon me to run the bakery by myself, and his bedroom is a wreck, like there was a fight.”
“Or the famous Stein temper.”
“But his pattern is to lose it, clean it up, and pretend it never happened; not leave and disappear. And the rest of the house is okay, so it’s not a robbery.”
Kirin sat up and rubbed his face. “How was he acting before he went missing? Did he seem stressed, depressed?”
“Pop hasn’t been the same since, well, you know…”
Oh no, he wasn’t going to let her off that easily. “Since he had an affair with my girlfriend’s mother, who then disappeared? Fury rushed through him. “Is that what you mean?”
“Pop had nothing to do with that and know it.”
“I knew it when I lied to the Guard and the Mundane police. I remembered how Uncle Louis was executed over circumstantial evidence. But you know Pop was hiding something. After everything we did for him, everything I lost, we deserve to know what it was. He wouldn’t even admit to the affair.”
“I think it happened the way he said, that Tara came to tell him she was happy about you and Ellie being together even if her butthead of a Deuce husband wasn’t. How they became friends because she liked having a connection with another Dragon. Men and women can be just friends.”
“What, you read that on the Internet? Believe what you want. I’m not buying it.” He fell back on the bed, His forearm over his eyes to block out the light streaming through the curtains. “He’ll probably be back today.”
“Come home for you, if not for me or Pop. Living away from the Field has to be taking a toll on you. You looked all blah when I came to see you last month.”
Yeah, the downside to harboring the essence of the Dragon god in one’s body was that the essence required the Deus Vis to survive, the god-force that emanated from the mysterious crystal core of the island of their ancestors. Lucifera had sunken hundreds of years ago in the Bermuda Triangle, but the Deus Vis still radiated strong enough to affect the electromagnetic energy. The Field of Deus Vis reached into the Miami area in a crescent shape.
“That’s only because I was overdue for my biweekly trip to recharge,” he said.
“Oh.” A pause. “You come down but don’t see me?”
Yeah, he had admitted that, hadn’t he? “I go to the edge of the Field, let my Dragon out and head right back to Atlanta.”
“I get–sort of– why you wouldn’t want to see Pop. But can’t you forgive me for my part in it?”
Guilt nibbled at him. “I needed a break from my life, Lyra. Do you know how freakin’ cool it is to walk into a store, a restaurant, everywhere, and only see Mundane humans? No having to pretend there’s not an Elemental sitting at the next table flicking peas at me. No whacked-out Dragons waiting around the corner to tear my throat out; no Deuce magic to prickle the hairs at the back of my neck. Getting this contract was a godsend. And the pay is insane.” He wouldn’t admit to the lack of energy, the drain on his soul, or the hunger to Catalyze. Or how boring having sex with Mundane women was. “When my contract expires, I’ll move back.”
“Your poor Dragon must be withering. Being the badass paintball champion isn’t the same as sparring Dragon to Dragon in the Obsidian room. Getting your pilot’s license will never give you the thrill of being who you really are.”
“Maybe not, but flying is pretty damned cool. Since we can’t fly the real way.” They’d been born after the flying ban in the seventies, which completely sucked. Since the age of satellite imagery and Miami’s population explosion, displays of magic were illegal. The Hidden, which encompassed Crescent magic and other magical creatures, had to stay just that–hidden. Never let the Mundanes see your magic. “The paintball arena gives me all the predatory thrills I need.”
“I can’t fathom how shooting someone with a blob of paint could even begin to compare to the raw power of your Dragon coursing through you, or body-slamming an opponent and sinking your fangs into their hide.”
Memories of letting his Dragon out in the private room at Cyntag’s dojo tingle through his veins. He rolled out of bed and looked out the window at the normal world outside. Fall was sniffing at the edge of summer, turning a few leaves dark red and yellow. The beast inside him was drying up like the leaves skittering across the sidewalk on the breeze. “It’s a rush.” Except the statement fell flat.
“Kirin, please. I need you.”
Lyra was rarely vulnerable or needy. No, she usually jumped headlong into everything, taking action without considering the consequences.
His resistance melted. “ Alright. It takes about eleven hours to drive down there, so don’t look for me until later tonight.”
“Love you, Kirin.”
Words in response hung in his throat, tangled in his anger at her. “See you soon.”

Synopsis of Soul ReaperCome take a wild ride with Eva and her friends. One where up is down, down is up. Left is right, and right is left. A ride where nightmares, and reality collide.
The only way to survive…remain sane in a world driven to see you fail.
Review of Soul Reaper
RATING: FIVE STARS
This is a fabulous read from start to finish.
The characters are believable, the story tantalizing the ending wow!!
The ending was truly unexpected. Each area of the book seems to have an end and a new beginning which was a new twist in writing for me. Usually one can anticipate the ending but not this time. Misty Harvey surprised me with her prowess with words and action. This book is so incredibly enjoyable I read it in two days.
I would have read it in one day but had to sleep. Misty Harvey’s SOUL REAPER is ten times her last book CREATURES OF THE DAMNED. I so would recommend this book as a really good read. I think YA/and all others would love this book especially with its twists. I truly cannot say enough great things about this book.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Character Interview with Eva and Jason from Soul Reaper
Welcome, welcome. Thank you so much for joining us here at Gnome City Entertainment. We have a great opportunity to sit down with lead actors Eva, and Jason from the book Soul Reaper. Thank you for joining us Eva and Jason. *interviewer shakes hands with both actors*
Eva: Thank you, it’s a pleasure.
Jason: Not a problem.
So, tell us a little about the characters you play in this book.
Eva: I play a teenage girl that struggles with who she is. She’s just been moved to a new town after the loss of someone important to her. All these things keep happening to her, and she begins to question her own sanity. Upon meeting these group of ‘friends’ my character starts to come to grips with her role in her own life, all the while wondering who she can trust and who she can’t.
That’s interesting, Jason?
Jason: That’s easy enough, I play one of the friends. My character would easily be cannon fodder during this whole thing if he didn’t have one special ability up his sleeve. The entire time they’re faced with all the trials and tribulations he is trying to master this special ability. He is the only true friend to Eva’s character, and stick close by her side, even if they have their disagreements. I don’t want to give too much away, but the way it turns out threw all of us for a loop.
Now I understand this book is a psychological horror.
Eva: Oh yeah.
Jason: I’d more call it more a mind screw.
*Interviewer smiles* was there one particular scene that scared you more than the others?
Eva: Just one, huh? *stops to ponder* that is a difficult question as I’m the lead. I’m constantly thrown into these frightening situations. I can name two that gave me nightmares for days. One would have to be the scene in the hospital bathroom. When they suited up one of the creative board members into that creepy girl costume, and I saw her placed in the scene to grab my leg, it terrified me. Also the scene in the library basement where I’m alone searching for town history. Our animatronics team did phenomenal there too.
Jason: *chuckling* Yeah, I didn’t envy you any of those scenes. They turned out rather well. Mine would have to be when we were run along the cave ceiling. Granted it was all filmed with these robotics running along the floor, and the camera the only thing turned upside down, but we had to hang onto them. It wasn’t the easiest scene to film at all, but they’d covered these robots in fake skin *shivers*. Needless to say, by the time they were finished with them they were a little too real.
One more question before we let you return to your well-earned vacation. If there is one thing you hope people take away from this book, what would it be?
Eva: Always believe in yourself. There will always be nay sayers, and people out there trying to knock you down, but if you believe in yourself you can accomplish anything.
Jason: You would go for that response. *chuckling* I would probably go with, never give up. No matter how rough the road seems keep pushing yourself.
Thank you for joining us over at Gnome City Entertainment. Stay tuned for more interviews by the cast later this month, and please enjoy the small clip from Soul Reaper by Misty Harvey.
*Video production starts the clip as the lights dim*
Eva sucked in air. Her hands gripping the bathroom sink behind her. Even the squeak of the abused hinges on the door reminded her of a horror movie. She tensed farther, until the door opened far enough a little old woman could shimmy out of the space with her large carpenter bag.
“Some of those doors are tricky. Mind yourself, Sweetheart, that you don’t get stuck in one,” the old woman’s voice cracked. She made quick work of washing and drying her hands before leaving.
“Stop being so jumpy, Eva,” she chided herself. Eva turned back to the mirror. The shattered glass distorting the view of herself. She stared at her reflection for a moment, the image of the room behind her grabbed her attention.
Black mold clung to the deteriorated walls. The paint lost under it all. Pieces of exposed cinderblocks showed. The bathroom stalls clung to the walls on one hinge. Metal doors lay on the floor or, skewed on the frame.
Eva stared at the ruin of the bathroom in the fractured mirror. Her eyes scanning over the details. An ashen face looked under one of the doors. The eyes were completely white. Long tresses of wet black hair covered parts of the face. The lips pulled back over yellow jagged teeth. Dirt clung to the skin, almost hiding the broken fingernails.
“Eva.” The voice slurped like it came from a drowned victim. Each breath sounded like water rattling in a chest.
It took Eva a moment to recognize herself in the girl peering under the door. The long arm reached for Eva’s ankle. Each finger was chilled, and she felt it all through her jeans. Bones squeezed her leg, no meat really left to the girl. She whirled around to fight the girl, and get out of there, but came face to face with the original bathroom.
Bio of Author Misty Harvey
I’ve always felt a certain draw to the night, and the creatures that live there. So writing about these beings has always been easy for me. That isn’t to say there isn’t always a certain level of mysticism in each experience. I’ve lived with the characters of my books, heard their tales, experienced their up and downs with them.
Now I share it all with you, my readers. Come join me in a walk in the moonlight. Let us experience a new way of life that occurs after sunset.
Bad News… from “SEDITIOUS” 4th Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series” by Emily Guido
“I need to report to the Queen of Light and King of Darkness keeping order is impossible without an Elder Council and recruitment of Temple Guards,” he demanded with an ice-cold temperament. “We need leadership and authority or the whole system will fail. Humans will soon notice us, and it will be like the Crusades when no Blood-Hunter was safe.” “Oh my…. I am curious, why come here? Why not communicate by phone or Skype?” asked Dmitri.
“Please believe me,” the Head Guard replied, “I would not be here if I did not think it of necessary to provide escort to the Queen and King to Athens. Because of the lawlessness, their protection is important.”
Tabbruis stepped forward to speak.
However, Dmitri walked casually in the front, and shielded him while he inquired, “A show of power is needed?” He motioned for Tabbruis to back up.
“Yes, there will be a Blood-Hunter Assembly soon,” the Head Guard answered. “We need to see them now. That is all that we can tell you. The rest of our message is meant for them. Have we the pleasure of addressing the Queen or King?” as looked around at the family.
“Why not tell us all?” Tabbruis asked.
Dmitri turned and sent a telepathic look at him to keep out of it for now.
“Because our business is with them!” the Head Guard grumbled in frustration with all the questions.
Neal, in his role as Protector, walked in front of Tabbruis and Dmitri. “I suggest you tell us all. We do not know your full purpose. This could be an entrapment. However, if it is,” he looked around at the family, “you are much outnumbered.” Neal flexed his huge arms and stretched his muscles and threw a precise threat to them. With a big smile, he flashed his fangs, “I could take on all of you, only leaving the scraps for my brothers and sisters to deal with.”
Everyone laughed except the Guards.
The Head Temple Guard’s eyes became round with fear.
As she hovered above, Charmeine could see they were afraid. She whispered, “Very good Neal. They came on our land, uninvited.”
The Guards began to murmur, and the Head Guard pleaded, “Please listen to me! We did not come here to threaten or harm them. We really….” He took a big breath. “We came to ask for their help and warn them.”
“What do you need to warn them about?” Dmitri asked.
“There will be a Blood-Hunter assembly on March 3rd. Mars will be at Opposition and the face of the planet will be fully illuminated,” the Head Guard replied.
“March 3rd is only a few days away,” Shane blurted out.
“Precisely, the Assembly has planned this meeting for years.” The Head Guard nodded, and wiped his face. “We were hoping the lawlessness could be dealt with and more recruits for Temple Guards could be garnered during this congress.” Then with a face of exhaustion, he sighed, “However, we cannot enforce order, if they do not come. The Elder Temple has to show there is a law-enforcement agency still in operation since,” then he looked down, “the murder of the Elder Council.”
The family began to step forward in anger.
Dmitri threw himself in front of them. “Easy now, let us not go off half-cocked. We need to hear what they have to say, though they do not know the truth!” He glared at the Guards with his fangs exposed.
“Blood-Hunters cannot be allowed to reveal our existence to Humans as we will all perish. The Elder Council kept order, and we need authority now!” the Guard shouted. “The Prophecy said the Queen of Light and King of Darkness shall bring harmony and justice to the Blood-Hunters.”
Tabbruis’ face was devoid of emotion because to do so would have made him breakdown with fear. “Without their show of strength, we have no hope of bringing order to the chaos. Is that not right?”
“Yes, and there is no time to waste!” the Head Guard shouted with hopeful eyes.
“Not so fast.” A curious Sandra stepped through the crowd.
The Head Guard threw hateful glance toward her.
She folded her arms across her chest, and put all her weight on her back leg with one foot which tapped the ground and asked calmly, “Why?”
The Guards became angry a Light-Bearer spoke to them.
“Why send four Guards including you, the Head Guard, at a time of such vulnerability?” she probed. “Huh, what about it?”
“You dare question me Light-Bearer?” he yelled with a red face.
Sandra just smiled.
An IHOP restaurant in Poughkeepsie, New York (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Then, her countenance turned fierce. With clenched teeth, she chided, “Since you do not know if I am the Queen of Light or just any plain ‘ole Light-Bearer that can fry your ASS, I’m going to let that one comment pass. The next remark you make to disrespect me or any Light-Bearer, you will be on the menu at IHOP, as toast. Get it? Burnt to a crisp!”
She threw a warning shot of fire and blue lightning across the Guards igniting a bush and sent a boom of thunder in their ears.
“That’s my girl.” Charmeine quietly snickered. She loved Sandra’s spunk and bravado.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I wrote the Character “Sandra” I fashioned her after my best girl friend.
She is courageous, kind, loving but unlike Sandra in my book, she speaks her mind but quietly. But she has a lot of maturity and backbone. Backbone that I wish I had!
“Sandra” in the book is like my gal-pal in that she is a beautiful Latino woman with backbone.
LOVE HER!
Sandra Gomez my best girlfriend, I love you. This video is for you!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A POST BY KAREN EINSEL
My new book came out yesterday. Am I excited? Not really. Am I euphoric? No. In fact I feel a little let down.
I got the idea for ”Judged By The Cover” When I was doing the series, “Judging a Book by its Cover” here on my blog. I had planned on publishing by Christmas, and then it was Valentine’s and sorry to say, other holidays came and went.
It all started with a cover. Nothing fancy, just something plain.
And then I read a blog post saying that if your book has a plain white background, put a frame around it. And as you can see, he was right. So I tried different looks and different frames.
There are hearts Which I felt were too much.
And then I tried bricks, which wasn’t bad.
But I ended up with this. It reminded me of pillars from the Roman Empire or the Judicial system. Something you would see at a courthouse, or a government building.
“Judged by the Cover” is the story of Terri who lives in NY. She is in a relationship and she is a noted cover designer. She is hired by a publisher to design a cover for the best selling author, Craig Burrows. But not only does Craig Burrows write mystery novels, he is a mystery. He has no bio and there are no photos of him to be found. In fact his author photo he uses for the back covers of his novels look like this,
Now Terri starts judging him by his rejection emails and he starts judging her by her cover designs. When they finally meet in person will things change? And why is he a man of mystery?
Okay that’s the basic. One other thing, There is part of the first chapter (of the fictional) Craig Burrow’s new book, “Judged by You”
Now, I’m not a mystery writer, but I think I should write his book and toss my own. Ha Ha!
Anyway, because of my lack of self confidence, I started writing a poem ( I’m not a poet either), that would go into my book of short stories and poems, based on photo and word prompts which is due out in December and tentatively title, “Throughout the Year” I was going to share the beginning of it with you, but as I started adding more to it I decided that I am going to make it into a children’s rhyming book with illustrations. We will see how that turns out considering I don’t write children’s books, nor am I an artist or illustrator! Yikes! What am I doing?
So I procrastinated and I got paranoid! I doubted my work. Always have, still do, and probably always will.
Okay enough whining on my part. There are countless blog post on “Judging a book by its cover. Here is mine;
http://karensdifferentcorners.wordpress.com/2012/09/25/judging-a-book-by-its-cover-not-me-part-1/
And here is one on Huffington Post;
And another one here on the blog; YA CONFIDENTIAL
http://yaconfidential.blogspot.com/2013/05/judging-book-by-its-cover.html
And who would of known that there is actually a song titled, “You Can’t Judge a Book By the Cover” By the great Bo Diddley!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lch0o4wwGyw
Oh and my book is featured here on Ngaire’s Blog
Thank you sooo much Ngaire!
And “Judged by the Cover” is dedicated to all of the authors who shared their book covers on my blog.
Writing a book with the title, “Judged by the Cover” is very risky!
What happens if the readers give the cover an “A” and the story a “D” So I have decided to use this book as a work in progress, editing, revising, rewriting, taking out, adding more and it might take me ten years to get it exactly where I want it to be, but it is available now on Amazon
Pay it Forward Tuesday with David Lee Summers and his great book “Dragon’s Fall: Rise of the Scarlet Order”
David Lee Summers is an AWESOME Paranormal Novelist.
I have read his novels Bondage and The Dragon’s Quest and given them 5 star reviews.
Dragon’s Fall: Rise of the Scarlet Order is the combination of Bondage, The Dragon’s Quest, The Dragon’s Love, The Dragon’s Mercenaries, and The Dragon’s Reflection. If the rest of the books are as good as the first two, which I’m sure they are… WOW!!! You have just got to read them!!! Anyone who loves paranormal, action, romance and spice has to read these books.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Smoking Review of part of Dragon’s Fall – Bondage
WATCH OUT DRACULA! There’s a woman who can take you on and more! Excellent book! Loved it!
All I have to say is that this book does not disappoint. It starts with the most poignant comment that slavery or being owned was awful. The book is centered around a woman driven not to be owned or used. She was strong, noble, and kind, but she wanted to be free. She would use any means to be free. I loved her counterpart who was in David Lee Summer’s other book which I also love Demetrius. I hope I got the spelling right.
If you love Paranormal Vamps with a bite, you HAVE to race out and buy this book. It was fun, sexy, and adventurous at the same time.
It takes a lot to satisfy my hunger for good Vampire books and this one of my FAVORITES!
FIVE STAR to David Lee Summers and Dragon’s Fall – Bondage!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another Review of Dragon’s Fall: Rise of the Scarlet Order
“David Lee Summers’ vampires are more in line with what I think of as “normal” vampires, but he does put in his own twists, which I like. They aren’t soulless killing monsters. Some of them remember life before they were turned and keep some of their morals and ethics from their human life. Some of the vampires completely forget who they were before they were turned and either go crazy, or find a path to sanity. The main characters are smart and build a life for themselves whether it’s mercenary or thief or assassin or setting themselves up as nobility.
Parts of the book remind me of The Robe, other parts of the Da Vinci Code and some parts are pure David Lee Summers having fun with thoughts of an immortal life. The story runs parallel to many historical happenings and I enjoy the story line where vampires are seeking holy relics for their own enrichment instead of to destroy them.”
Emily Guido
Young Adult Paranormal Fiction
I received Charmeine - the first book in the Light-Bearer series, and going into it I had no idea what to expect. The blurb on the book says Can romance develop between a Heavenly Light-Bearer and a Hellish vampire Blood-Hunter?
I went into the book expecting something akin to Twilight, and I am pleased to say that it turned out better than I expected.
I'M HAPPY AND HUMBLED!!!! I'm shocked but I have a FIVE STAR REVIEW of "Charmeine" from a very important Artist in his own right! WOW!!!! Wow... wow....wow.. is all I can say! Lots of love, Emily
My deepest THANKS to those who Served America in the Armed Forces!
men and women
who died for our country…
From “Seditious” 4th Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series”
“Wait a minute. I have to ask, Tabbruis.
You and Dmitri served in the American Army through the Revolutionary War, Civil War, World War I, World War II, and Korea?”
Tabbruis’ head lowered and answered, “Yes, you see, Charmeine, Dmitri and I loved America and the values the Constitution of the United States afforded its citizens.
We live in Romania, but in our hearts, we feel like we are Americans because the sacrifice for freedom and honor is the greatest gift a man or woman can give to their fellow countrymen.”
She was in awe of the rich history and experiences he had.
Then, she thought how much death he had seen.
I was given an e-copy of Seditious (The Light Bearer Series #4) by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank You Emily!!
Where to start? This installment has a lot of emotions woven through the words, betrayal, love, evil, hurt, faith, trust, and sensuality.
Charmeine and Tabbruis are going through so much as their LOVE for each other is diabolically tested. It threw me for a loop to read along as they went through the heartfelt scenes that were depicted so clearly. The twists and turns kept me up way into the night as I had to know what would happen next. The characters are awesome, personable, and lovable.
I adore this series. Why? Because it speaks to the hardcore romantic within me, it leaves the sensual scenes up to the readers imagination, and it so uniquely refreshing.
I recommend this series to all the YA Paranormal Readers out there. Go Get Ya Some!
I know, I do it everyday!
Please give these Authors on “Pay it Forward Friday” a chance, and at the very least, sample their books!
Here is another Author, lend them your attention for a few minutes.
There is GOLD in the publishing world!
Lots of love, Author Emily Guido
Review of “In Jen’s Words”All I can say is WOW was this book crazy (in a good way)! I received this book as a review book so I had no idea what it was about.
The main character Jennifer has a personality disorder and boy does she ever. There are so many twists and turns in this book that I couldn’t stop reading it until I had the entire book finished.
The story revolves around Jen and her brothers Jacob and Justin.
Jacob was forced into taking care of his younger brother and sister after his parents were killed in a car accident.
Jen was has trouble with her boyfriend Scott so her brother Justin beats him up and went to jail.
All hell breaks loose when Jacob runs for mayor and Justin is released from prison.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes a pretty fast paced action/mystery/suspense type book.
I hope there is a book #2 because the way it ended I am curious where this whole story is going. http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/497597830
Synopsis of “In Jen’s Words”
Jennifer and Justin Barnes have been raised by their older brother Jacob since they were teenagers…little did Jacob know, he was raising a third personality as well.
The Barnes have been through it all. The loss of their parents in a car crash, rape, and incarceration. But nothing could prepare them for what they are about to deal with.
When Jacob decides to run for mayor of Springwood, Ohio someone else decides to haunt him and his family, using his younger sister’s alter personality as leverage in their game.
After Jen’s mental disorder is made public, the first of many shocking revelations are made, including who her biological father really is. She is ordered into custody in the mental health wing of Springwood Memorial as a case is built against her for the murder of Davis Cauley, a former local news anchor.
Jacob gets his sister released in time for the holidays, only for another murder to occur. The body of Brenda Sowers, Davis Cauley’s sister is found in Mercy Park, the same area where her brother was found—in a storage shed, with hedge clippers in his back, and Jen across from him with no memory of what happened.
More incriminating evidence links Jen to Brenda’s murder, as Black Friday looms. The big weekend draws Jacob to the mall, where he’s in for another surprise. A photo of his brother sent to his phone reveals another huge secret, involving all of Springwood.
As the Barnes recover from what has been a very turbulent Fall, other secrets are lurking and waiting to be revealed as a family faces a trial of issues to come.
Synopsis of “Tis the Season to Get Burned”
Christmas time has arrived in Springwood…and so has a killer, bent on revenge. The Barnes have seen tragedy…their parents’ death, rape, incarceration…and now, Tammy Cauley—their sister’s alter personality, who is also a murder suspect.
As the holiday season kicks off, Mayor Jacob Barnes is in the middle of planning the annual Christmas Festival, while his brother Justin, and sister Jen prepare to spend the holiday with their love interests—until one of them is found dead.
The discovery of birth control pills prescribed to Tammy Cauley adds to the mounting surprises as Jen’s trial date looms closer. It’s enough to get her case delayed, as further investigation reveals Tammy had an abortion before a women’s clinic in Springwood was shut down.
Becky Robinson, Jen’s best friend remains by her side through all of it, unaware of the plans Tammy has for her. When Jen disappears one night in Jacob’s car, authorities track it to a spot close to the book store that has agreed to host a book signing for Becky—which is on fire. Becky and Jen are both pulled from the blaze, Jen remaining in an unconscious state as Becky confesses Tammy is accusing her of plagiarism.
The Barnes spend Christmas together in the hospital, having no idea Tammy is the present personality pretending to be Jen. She is unable to fool Justin though, who urges her to keep acting as Jen, in hopes she will return. It’s not easy though, especially when a mysterious stranger visits her in the hospital, and she feels drawn to him despite the fact she is quite sure they have never met.
As New Year’s Eve arrives, everyone prepares to ring in the new year, no one having any clue exactly what it may bring, except for one person who has a plan to make sure those who crossed him get burned.
Interview with Author Jennifer Brown
How old were you when you wrote your first piece?
I was around nine or ten when I first started writing.
What was it, and in what genre?
It was a “goof off” story with myself and my friends in it. So, it would be safe to say, Children’s fiction. J
What made you write it?
Our Reading teacher assigned us to groups one day to write a short story. I had so much fun with it, and became hooked instantly.
What have you written since then?
Mainly mysteries throughout school, and just over the past six years I’ve started writing suspense.
What was the inspiration for your current book?
The characters in it were in another unpublished series I worked on for a while and trashed. I decided to place them in another story-line, which has worked out very well.
Tell us a little about it, and where it’s available.
The Barnes family has seen a lot of tragedy, from their parents being killed in a car crash, to rape and incarceration. Just as they are about to get their lives back on track, someone comes back from their past to give them a harsh reality. There are two books in the series so far, and you can purchase them both from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, No Boundaries Press, and other websites. Check out a full list of links at my website: http://www.jenniferbrownauthor.weebly.com/in-jens-words
Is there a particular place or setting where you get your writing ideas?
I get my story ideas from a little bit of everywhere and everything.
What made you choose either traditional or independent publishing?
The idea of being published through a small press drew me in. Many writers I had befriended online were going that route and not having a problem.
If you had to choose the most important element in an author’s platform, what would it be?
You must have determination. There are many ups and downs for authors and you will need that drive to succeed.
What mistakes have you made in regards to publishing and marketing your work, and what will you do differently in the future?
I think I’ve made some rash decisions in the past based on desperation of wanting to be published so soon. What everything comes down to in publishing is you must have patience which I have little of. A lot of research needs to be done before you fully make a decision which is what I now currently try to do. I look forward to using what I have learned to start researching print publishers once I have completed the first book in my new series.
Do you have an idea for your next book?
Yes, I am currently working on the third book in my In Jen’s Words series, and have started on another suspense/mystery series as well.
INJUSTICE comes in all forms – personal post of Emily Guido Author
PERSONAL BLOGS ARE NOT MY THING BUT I HAD TO SPEAK OUT ABOUT BULLYING!
In my life, I have lived with bullies.Bullies come in all forms and with hideous intentions.
From my experience, my mother rallied against prejudice in a town riddled with racial conflict.
Also, I have dealt with being the only Hispanic family in a town. ”Wetback” was a common racial slur used under the breaths at people in the grocery store or even school teachers, and I went to Catholic school (wow… is the word you are thinking now) .
I was always considered stupid or dumb from the teachers because I was fat. I had to fight to be allowed into Marching Band, and my uniform had to be tailored to fit me.
Even in job interviews as a teenager, I would be passed over because I wasn’t the cute or pretty one.
None of this was as incessant or as hateful or even as detrimental as the name calling and prejudice I experienced being overweight since I was a young girl.I had a medical condition which I didn’t find out about until I was older but by that time the “stuffing my mouth with my hurt” syndrome had overcome me.
No diet, exercise would be successful. While everyone in my class was beautiful and thin. I was the fat girl who used to make up my own jokes to compensate. I wasn’t able to wear normal kid clothes. I had to shop at the 1970′s big women’s shop and looked like a 90 year-old grandmother.
So, I made a decision this year since my medical problems were getting worse and worse to have bariatric surgery. I’m not happy, but I’m proud that I will start to be healthier with an extreme diet and exercise.However, even now, I get the bullies (adult women friends of mine) who say, “If you are going to diet and exercise after the surgery, why can’t you just do it right now and lose the weight?” Of course this is my favorite, ”Oh Emily, you are taking the easy way out.”
Easy? Really?
If easy means going to doctor after doctor and tell you time and time again that you are morbidly obese, okay.
If easy means being so poked and prodded internally for pre-op testing, okay.
If easy means going to Nutritionist counselling appointments, okay
If easy means going to Psychiatric counselling appointments and Bariatric support groups every week, okay.
If easy means taking a Sleep Study, Endoscopy, and Colonoscopy before surgery, okay.
If easy means having major surgery, being off work with restrictions and possible complications, okay.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BULLIES are in all forms. BULLIES pick on people who are different.
BULLIES pick on people who can’t help themselves.
BULLIES pick on people with mental and physical disabilities.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I heard about this, last night at my bariatric support group.
The more and more I thought about it, the more I boiled.
I said my peace, and if I ever do become healthy, I will fight the good fight against the BULLY below…
May 9, 2013 (NEW YORK) (WLS) http://naesnest.me/2013/05/23/ambercrombie-fitch-just-another-bully/
Mike Jeffries of Abercrombie and Fitch is on the hot seat after the popular style chain is accused of discriminating against overweight customers, making clothes only for the thin. An exam of the Abercrombie flagship store in New York City found mostly double-zeros, and extra-smalls and a couple of large tops and size 10 pants. Sales people there confirmed Abercrombie doesn’t carry XL or XXL for women.
“He’s been very, very successful, so he doesn’t want anybody in the store that doesn’t fit that cool, young and sexy definition,” said Robin Lewis, co-author of “The New Rules of Retail.” Lewis says it’s all part of Jeffries’ master plan to cultivate what he considers cool.

All I have to say to this is retail
means dollars being spent at A & F…
I just know my money or
my big XXL body
will never darken their doorstep
