From contemporary romance with a bit of a mystery twist - Red Tulip

Scene set - Darcy, having found the red tulip, is holding it as she rides the subway home. She's thinking about it and the handsome made she thinks left it for her.

Smiles briefly crept across the other passenger's lips. A twinkling of joy in an otherwise drab existence.I gripped the overhanging strap and swayed with the rolling of the car. He'd been a pleasure to behold. The kind of man my elderly grandmother would've called a dapper sort. I never actually knew what she meant by that, but the vision of him in his dark suit, bowler hat and silver tipped cane, clarified the definition.Brushing my finger across my upper lip, I wiped away a bead of sweat. The subway was unusually hot for an early spring day.

Spotlight on contemporary romance Her Hometown Redemption by Rachel Brimble

HER HOMETOWN REDEMPTION
BY RACHEL BRIMBLE

Genre: Contemporary RomanceRelease Date: Sept 1st 2015Publisher:  Harlequin Superromance
She's back to right her wrongs.
When Tanya Todd returns to Templeton Cove, she knows better than to expect a warm welcome. She burned a few bridges on her way out of town, and making amends won't be easy. First on her list is the man whose heart she carelessly shattered, Liam Browne.
Seeing the successful criminal lawyer after all these years, Tanya is interested in more than just Liam's forgiveness. As they work together to bring the man who hurt her sister to justice, the attraction between them sizzles. Suddenly Tanya's second chance could include a future with Liam…if she can prove she's changed.

And Now for a Quick interview

Let me introduce Rachel Brimble and her latest book Her Hometown Redemption.
Please tell us everything about your latest book. The genre. Who are the main characters? How long did it take to write? Was there a period during the writing of the story where you sat and stared at the screen because what your characters just did surprised the heck out of you? How did you pick the title? Who designed your cover? And feel free to add anything else here.
Her Hometown Redemption is a mix of mainstream romance with a bit of suspense thrown in! The main characters are Tanya Todd and Liam Browne who appeared as secondary characters in the third book in my Harlequin Templeton Cove series (all the books can be read stand-alone). All my books take around 5-6 months to write and come in at around 85,000 words.I sit and stare at every book around the 40,000 word mark – in fact, I usually just a hit a brick wall. It doesn’t matter how well I think I have planned out a book before I start, the characters will do something or reveal something unexpected which throws things off-kilter for a while. I’ve found there’s no other way round this problem than to write through it and sort out the mess in the following drafts! Harlequin choose the titles and design the covers – I get the chance to offer suggestions but, ultimately, the decision is made by the publisher rather than me.
Have you written other books? Their titles and genres. Her Hometown Redemption is my 15th book – the others (in order) are:
Searching For Sophie – romantic suspense (The Wild Rose Press)Reluctant Witness – romantic suspense (The Wild Rose Press)The Sharp Points of a Triangle – romantic comedy (Eternal Press)The Arrival of Lily Curtis – Victorian romance (The Wild Rose Press)Getting It Right This Time – mainstream romance (Lyrical Press)Paying The Piper – mainstream romance (Lyrical Press)Finding Justice – romantic suspense (Harlequin Superromance Templeton Cove book 1)A Man Like Him – romantic suspense (Harlequin Superromance Templeton Cove book 2)The Seduction of Emily – Victorian romance (eKensington/Lyrical Press)What Belongs To Her – romantic suspense (Harlequin Superromance Templeton Cove book 3)The Temptation of Laura – Victorian romance (eKensington/Lyrical Press)16 Marsden Place – romantic comedy (Omnific Publishing)Christmas At The Cove – mainstream romance (Harlequin Superromance Templeton Cove book 4)What A Woman Desires – Victorian romance (eKensington/Lyrical Press)Her Hometown Redemption – mainstream romance/suspense (Harlequin Superromance Templeton Cove book 5)
Plotter or a pantster?  Why does this work best for you?
I’m actually a bit of both! I start with a premise and then create character sketches for my hero and heroine (and villain if I have one), I then write a 3-4 page synopsis. With that done, I write the first draft from start to finish without looking back. The hard part comes in sorting the mess out during the following drafts!
Short question time.Favourite TV show? Many – but my favourite at the moment is Madam SecretaryMost romantic place you've visited? VeronaIf Hollywood called, which actor should play the hero or heroine in your book? This is an easy question because I start all my books trawling the internet for actors to ‘play’ my characters. For Her Hometown Redemption, Tanya Todd is Jennifer Lopez and Liam Browne is Henry Cavill.
Three things you'd want on a deserted island.A copy of Gone With The WindMatchesA tent!Which would you choose – a knight in shining armour or a roman gladiator?
Roman gladiator
Favourite thing to do on a vacation?Read!
If you could meet one famous person – past or present – who would it be? Why?
Oprah Winfrey – she just seems so genuine and wise. I am very much into spirituality and think she would teach me a lot.
Any last comments – ideas – your blurb or excerpt.
I really hope your visitors will enjoy Her Hometown Redemption and go on to buy the previous books! Templeton Cove is a fictional UK seaside town that has become a very real place to me and somewhere I would love to live!

Author Spotlight on Those Children are Ours by David Burnett

THOSE CHILDREN ARE OURS  BY DAVID BURNETT

Jennie Bateman screamed at her daughters, cursed at her husband, packed a bag, and walked away. Twelve years later, she petitions the family court for visitation with her daughters, Alexis and Christa. Her attorney tells Jennie that, ordinarily, she could not imagine that some type of visitation would not be granted. But, she warns, the situation is hardly ordinary.True, Jennie suffered from a bipolar disorder when she began to drink heavily, abandoned her family, and moved in with another man. True, she has turned her life around: leaving her boyfriend, returning to school, entering therapy, taking medication, finding a job, and joining a church. But she pressed no claim for her children when her husband divorced her, and she has made no attempt to contact them in any way. Her daughters are now sixteen and fourteen. They live four hundred miles away, and they have busy lives that do not include her, lives that will be totally disrupted by the visitation that Jennie requests. Their father is engaged to be married to a woman who has taken the role of their mother for a decade, and neither child wants anything to do with Jennie. Alexis remembers nothing good about her. Christa recalls nothing at all. Conflict ensues as soon as Jennie’s petition is served: her former husband does not want to share his children with the woman who deserted him; her children have no interest in knowing the mother who abandoned them, and her father believes that she is being timid and ought to demand full custody, not visitation. As court convenes, Jennie’s past is dredged up− the desertion, the men, her drinking, her mental health − and hauled before the judge. Her claim to be a different person, now, is attacked. When the judge appears to be reluctant to grant Jennie’s request, but seems to feel that she must, her husband’s attorney suggests three trial visits, hoping that they will go so badly that Jennie will come to her senses and drop her petition.Jennie wants to be a part of her children’s lives, but can she convince them to allow her to try?BUY LINKSAMAZON UKAMAZON.COM ABOUT DAVID BURNETT

We recently moved to our new home near Charleston, South Carolina. Three of my four books are set in Charleston, and I’ve always enjoyed the Carolina beaches. I now have the opportunity to walk on the beach near our home almost every day and to photography the ocean, the sea birds, and the marshes that I love. I love photography, and I have photographed subjects as varied as prehistoric ruins on the islands of Scotland, star trails, sea gulls, and a Native American powwow. My wife and I have traveled widely in the United States and the United Kingdom. During trips to Scotland, we visited Crathes Castle, the ancestral home of the Burnett family near Aberdeen, and Kismul Castle on Barra, the home of my McNeil ancestors.I went to school for much longer than I want to admit, and I have degrees in psychology and education. In an “earlier life” I was Director of Research for the South Carolina Department of Education. Dancing in Circles on Weekend Writing Warriors #8sunday

LINK BACK TO WWWVictoria's Pages of Romance is back on WWW. I had a  problem with the connection between my Triberr and my blog, but I worked it out.

Welcome to another weekend of Weekend Writing Warriors. My 8 sentence snippet this week is from my first release from my NA contemporary romance – Dancing in Circles- Book 1 of Circles Trilogy.
Scene Set -We left Julie and Robert having lunch. He's the new boy in school and Julie has found herself attracted to him.

"Trish said you were staring at her in English," said Julie."I wasn't lookin' at her. I was lookin' at you."Julie felt a blush rush to her cheeks."Trish is usin' me. She wants to make Super Jock jealous and pay more attention to her.""But you're doing what she wants by fighting Stephan." Julie rested against the back of the booth."I'm gonna scare Stephan." Robert met her gaze and asked, "What's it to ya?"

Blurb – One born into privilege and a charmed life surrounded by love and family. The other born to a life of violence on the streets as the solemn gang leader of the notorious Shoresmen. A young, idealistic co-ed, Julie, meets a jaded, cold gang member, Robert, and cracks his icy shell, allowing the warmth of her love to awaken his soul.

What people are saying about Dancing in Circles5 stars  - Julie I liked, but Robert, loved that guy. He's thrown some insurmountable circumstances to overcome, but he manages a way around it all quite nicely. While he may be the 'bad boy', he still has a heart of gold. The author did a nice job expressing that while we may not all travel the same paths in life, we still are essentially the same people and deserve happiness alike.
5 Stars - I loved the cover, as well as the story. I liked the school setting, and the description in the beginning of Julie and her friends. Julie is the dreamer, searching for a happy ending. I also liked Robert, who is a "bad boy" gang leader. "from the wrong side of the tracks," etc. One of Julie's relatives says he has a heart of gold, and he does. He's smart and practical and I think he's great.
5 Stars - Author Victoria Adams does an excellent job at bringing characters to life. I really enjoyed living through Julie's dream of becoming a dancer and her connection with Robert. Yeah, Robert may have gotten himself in the wrong crowd, but he really does portray a compassionate person and in the end he really does grow on you. Can't wait to see the next one in the series!

7 Words from Dancing in Circles on My Sexy Saturday #MySexySaturday #MSS110

Victoria's Pages of Romance is back on MSS. Had some blog and TRiberr connection problems, but they seem to be all sorted out.

From my NA Contemporary - Dancing in Circles - Julie and her friends are standing in the hall and the new boy walks toward them. Tricia leans over and whispers -

"The Gods did right by this one."

Excerpt - Robert stood near the beer line and watched as a brunette in a tight short skirt and low cut top strutted across the room and stood before him.She dropped her gaze to his feet and moved it up to his hips then linked gazes with him. "Hello, tall, dark and totally fuckable." She dragged her tongue across her top lip.Robert's chuckle started with a shake of his shoulders then moved to the crooked grin on his face before it erupted from his mouth. She stepped in closer, slid her hand down his stomach and rested it on the inside of his thigh.Robert didn't release his gaze from hers. "What? Ya want me to just rip your clothes off and do ya here?"Her pupils dilated.Robert flicked her hand off his leg then glanced left and right to see who had slipped their arms around his."Tonya." Tricia waited until the girl looked at her. "This gorgeous hunk of maleness is more man than you could ever handle."Jennifer flicked her hand. "Go away now. He's all ours."Tonya turned on her heel and stormed off."Thank you. But I coulda handled that myself.""We're just protecting Julie's property." Tricia winked and wandered over to speak with a friend.Jennifer released his arm. "Tonya's the school slut."Robert snorted. "Figured that out all by myself."Julie stopped in front of them. "Did you get lost coming back from getting the beer?" She glanced at his empty hands. "Or did you get lost going to find the beer?"Christopher barged between them and bumped Robert's shoulder. "Guess Jennifer's starting to hang with trash."Robert lunged forward, grabbed Christopher's shoulder and spun him around. Before Christopher could react, Robert slammed his palms on Christopher's chest shoving him back a couple of steps. "I am so not going take any of this shit tonight. Ya wanna take this outside and end it now?" His shoulders heaved with the depth of breaths he inhaled.Refusing to make eye contact with Robert, Christopher glanced around. "I didn't mean nothing."With one step, Robert invaded Christopher's personal space. "Yea, you did." He locked his gaze onto Christopher's and didn't blink.Jennifer started to step forward, but Julie touched her arm. "No, leave him alone. Let him deal. He won't do anything stupid."Several heartbeats later, a friend of Christopher's grabbed his arm, pulling him away.Robert slightly turned his head and watched as they camouflaged Christopher into the crowd. He rolled his shoulders and twisted his head around then turned. All signs of anger had disappeared. He stepped closer to Jennifer. "Sorry. He shouldn't have insulted ya. If ya want me to go, I'm outta here."She handed him an unopened beer, rose up on her toes and placed a tiny kiss on his cheek. "You did good. He's an ass." Smiling at the surprised look on Robert's face, she walked over to a group of girls to mingle with her friends.Still holding the beer, Robert walked nearer to Julie and pulled her close. "Thanks. I heard what you said. Thanks for trustin' me." He pressed his lips against the velvet skin of her neck and inhaled the aroma of her perfume. He wanted to trail kisses up her long neck and lose himself in the touch of her soft pink lips, instead, he stood before her gazing into her eyes.Julie's voice went mute at the touch of his lips. The heat of his flesh on hers made her mind swirl. Through the noise of the crowd and the fire that raged in both of them, the sound of music broke through."Wanna dance?" He breathed across her ear.

Victoria's Pages of Romance is back with 13 sentences on Thursday #Thursday13

Really gotta make myself a picture for this. :-)  fSo what is Thursday 13 - I flipped through Red Tulip - stopped on a page and grabbed 13 sentences. Technically 14, but I edited 2 together. It just worked betterNo - the first line is a typo nor did my kitten run across my laptop. It's Gaelic. Thairiscint tulips agus mo chroi i dearg mé mar bhronntanais.I stared at the words on the paper. Shamus said he could read them, that they were in English. But now they were back to Gaelic. What did they mean? What could the message possibly say that would have affected Shamus so strangely? After reading them, he paled and fled the apartment.Thairiscint tulips agus…oh, tulips. Does it have something to do with the mystery of the appearing and disappearing flowers?Picking my laptop up off the coffee table, I plopped onto my couch and booted it up. I clicked on a web-browser and translate site, typed in the phrase and pressed enter. I smiled because in a moment, I'd have my answer.
Darcy O'Calahann, a junior gardener from a small mid-western town, is trying to make her way in the big city.Shamus McTavis is a wealthy bachelor with a mysterious family past. Are Darcy's eyes playing tricks on her? Is she losing her mind? Or is there really a Red Tulip tying her and Shamus together?

Rejoice- Red Tulip and my Blog are back on Triberr and Book Hooks #MFRWhooks #MFRWAuthor

Welcome to my blog and Book Hooks - First - Yay!!! - I'm back - my Feedburner link to Triberr broke and it took a while to get things fixed - a while meaning a month. But all is good. Now to build up my view stats again.

I'm going to continue with Red Tulip and start back from where I ended up

Scene set- At the end of Darcy's work day when she entered the locked gardener's shed  there was a red tulip inside. A mysterious man has asked her earlier - Had she ever been give the gift of a red tulip?

Darcy, snap out of it. This isn't some fantasy story. I gave myself a small shake, then wet a paper towel, wrapped it around the base of the tulip, locked the gardening shed, and returned home. The subway ride was mind-numbing as usual. Everyday people traveling home from work, lost in their thoughts and problems. A few women glanced at the tulip with a curious gaze. The brilliance of the red petals was eye-catching.

Blurb - Darcy O'Calahann, a junior gardener from a small mid-western town, is trying to make her way in the big city.Shamus McRae is a wealthy bachelor with a mysterious family past. Are Darcy's eyes playing tricks on her? Is she losing her mind? Or is there really a Red Tulip tying her and Shamus together?

Kathryn Lively – Getting Geeky at Sexy To Go

Kathryn Lively – Getting Geeky at Sexy To Go

Recently I received two opportunities to participate in box sets with other authors, all romances. Until this point I had mainly written mysteries and thrillers, though some of my books contained romantic entanglements…always with a happy ending for the characters involved. My first attempt to write a full romance occurred after reading a call for “geek romances,” something that attracted me. As a geek who married a geek, I figured I had the topic well in hand. My story idea, a romantic comedy of errors set at a sci-fi convention, became Geek Meets Girl, and it was accepted by a publisher. While the writing and submission part came easily, however, certain circumstances resulted in the reversion of the book’s rights. It happens, publishing is unpredictable at times. While I pondered the story’s fate, the first invitation came from a group of authors interested in packaging contemporary romances for a box set. Geek Meet Girl was welcomed, and in September readers will see how a female Time Lord meets the geek of her dreams in Falling in Love. The box set features a few NYT/USA Today bestsellers, so hopefully that goodness will rub off. While that was happening, I toyed with the idea of serializing another geek-themed romance. Again, set at a con, but on a cruise ship. I thought the added element of a confined space (though these ships are huge) might lend some drama to the story. For much of the year I’ve helped edit and proof stories for a few authors writing the monthly Sexy To Go bundles. Each month, 8 to 12 authors published short romances for the sets. Some authors have used Sexy To Go to serialize longer stories, and I offered to contribute work for the last six sets. Starting with the June box set, Sexy To Go, Volume 6, you can follow the adventures of Natalie – the only non-geek on a ship full of Trekkers and Whovians, oh my – and a B-list actor trying to get back to A. My story, Geek Overboard, appears with a variety of shorts and serials in the bundles. Why geek heroes? Why not? I do enjoy romance heroes of all stripes—I’ve read my fair share of alphas, lawmen and cowboys, bikers and billionaires. I like to think each type of hero can have a bit of geek in him, too, plus it’s a milieu in which I’m comfortable. Presently I’m working on my third novella, forming a loose series in geek romance as I write.

ABOUT LINN B HALTON Bristol-born Linn B. Halton lives in the small village of Lydbrook, which nestles on the edge of the Forest of Dean, in the UK. She resides there with her husband and feline with 'catitude'- Mr Tiggs.Linn began writing in March 2009 and her debut novel was published in February 2011. In a recent interview Linn was asked about genres:"From a very young age I knew romantic fiction was always going to be my genre. I am, and will always be, madly in love with love! Whether that's love of life, a partner, or the things I'm passionate about. My stories are about love, life and real relationships - but romance is always the one thing that holds each story together. Often there's a light, psychic touch and I never dreamed I would write drawing upon my personal psychic experiences. But as my interest and understanding in the subject has grown, it is now such a part of my life that it finds its way into my fictional tales. However, what is heartening is that most of my experiences have been uplifting and it's wonderful to know loved ones are around me always. I hope it will make readers stop and wonder 'What if?'The result is that I get a lot of mail from readers who have had similar experiences and some are sharing theirs for the first time with me. I always feel that's something rather special and for which I'm very grateful."Love, life and beyond... but it's ALWAYS about the romance!Linn is published by Choc Lit, HarperImpulse, Endeavour Press and Sapphire Star Publishing.Linn is also the managing editor of Loveahappyending Lifestyle emagazine.Website/blog: http://linnbhalton.co.uk/Twitter: @LinnBHalton FB: Linn B Halton AuthorLoveahappyending Lifestyle emagazine: http://www.loveahappyending.com/Linn’s Books on Amazon: http://smarturl.it/LinnBHaltonbooks
