~~EXCERPT~~
A yawn creeps up my throat and I suddenly feel like I haven’t slept in weeks. The temptation to curl up and go to sleep is strong, but my body is telling me I need a trip to the bathroom first.I head down the hall to the door at the end. It’s ajar, so I push the door open—and freeze. The bathroom is not empty.Howard stands at the sink, naked from the waist up, cleaning his teeth. Without clothing, his shoulders look twice as wide as before and every curve and dip in his muscles is clearly visible. Down the middle of his back is what looks like a big, black T. I have this crazy inclination to trace it to see how it feels. Howard clears his throat and my gaze shoots up to find him watching me in the mirror. “Do you mind?”He winks at me. Oh crap!“Sorry.” I pull the door shut. I’m mortified to have been caught staring. I also have butterflies in my stomach again, stronger than ever, and my heart is pounding. I fan my face with my hands in an attempt to calm myself down. Before I can get everything under control, the door opens and a still-shirtless Howard walks out. “All yours.”“Uh-huh.” I mentally slap myself for such an inept reply, but the view of him from the front is even better than the back. He has one of those washboard stomachs I’ve heard Gail talk about. I never understood what she meant, but now I can see how apt the description is. Once again, I find myself unable to stop staring. “Good night, Bethanie,” Howard says strolling down the hallway. “Howard? What’s the T on your back?” I ask, curiosity getting the better of me.He stops and half turns towards me. “It’s a tattoo, and it isn’t a T, it’s a crucifix.”“A crucifix?”“Yeah, it’s the cross Christ was nailed to. It is a symbol of the weight I bare in the name of justice.”“Huh. I’m sorry, I don’t really know what you’re talking about. It’s nice, though.”“Thanks,” he says, “but I better get to bed if I’m going to be up early to take you to the post office.” “Night,” I call after him.“Sweet dreams,” he calls back.I smile. They might just be.

Link back to WWWFrom Dancing in Circles - NA contemporary romance. Robert - the new kid in the school has just been ordered out of the room by the Principal and 2 police officers for supposedly threatening a teacher. Julie defends him. Mrs. Wolsmely is the English teacher.
"You know, Mrs. Wolmsley, Robert's right." Julie controlled her nerves. "Derek's mistaken. I'm in Mr. Parks' class, and unless I'm suffering from total lack of recall there were no four-letter words or any hint of a threat or a knife or anything. Robert's not one of us and no one will give him a chance. He's North Shore. That's all they need to know." Aware of her classmates' stares, Julie bolted from the room.
Blurb – One born into privilege and a charmed life surrounded by love and family. The other born to a life of violence on the streets as the solemn gang leader of the notorious Shoresmen. A young, idealistic co-ed, Julie, meets a jaded, cold gang member, Robert, and cracks his icy shell, allowing the warmth of her love to awaken his soul.

5 Stars - Author Victoria Adams does an excellent job at bringing characters to life. I really enjoyed living through Julie's dream of becoming a dancer and her connection with Robert. Yeah, Robert may have gotten himself in the wrong crowd, but he really does portray a compassionate person and in the end he really does grow on you. Can't wait to see the next one in the series!

Addie’s heart skipped a beat as she crossed her hands on her chest. “Is this for me?”
Russell stepped closer and breathed across her ear. “It's for us.” He held out his hand and helped her sit on the picnic cloth then he sat next to her.
Addie giggled. “This is just like in one of the romances I’ve read.” She picked up the champagne flute and sipped.
Russell smiled. “Ever read paranormal romances?” He leaned closer as if to kiss her then two gleaming white fangs descended. He hovered over her neck.
“Russell!” She pushed him away. “Rule 26 of the Library Board. No vampires allowed in the library." She flicked her hand. "Be gone!”
With a puff of smoke, Russell vanished. Addie picked up her champagne flute, the open bottle and the box of chocolates then headed back to the romance section to grab the book she’d just shelved.
With it tucked under her arm and while juggling all the other items, Addie pulled her wand out of her pocket and swished herself home for a quiet night’s read.

A little day-before-Halloween Treat #FridaySnippets
From my Seasonal Flashes -
The Romantic Librarian
The smell of old books always tickled Addie's nose as she wandered through the Cape North Public Library. Her library. She'd spent hours as a youngster sitting cross-legged in the children's section roaming through books, gazing at pictures and delighted to have discovered the ability to read. As a high school student, she'd spent many late hours prepping for tests and essays. After completing her Library Science degree, she returned to Cape North, became the Assistant Librarian and now the Head Librarian.
She heaved her shoulders and released a sad sigh. But now, almost everything is done on the Internet. She glanced at the bank of computers as she turned to pass through the stacks, pausing to glare at two stacks of books she was positive she'd asked her intern, the little witch, to reshelve.
"Anything else you'd like me to do?" The button-nosed, brunette intern asked as she peeked around the edge of the book stack.
Addie glanced at her watch, 8:50 p.m. "No. Go on. I bet you're headed off to a party. I'll just pop these books on their shelves."
“Happy Halloween. Don't let any goblins get you on the way home.” The intern waved and disappeared back around the bookshelf.
Of course you're going to a party. You have life. Me. Le sigh. Not so much. Addie cast a quick glance over the titles of the books; two history, one Do-It-Yourself and a romance, Prophecy's Child by Brenda Dyer. Been meaning to read that one. Could use a little romance in my life right now.
Having spent most of her life in libraries, Addie was aware of the stereotypical strict – SSSH! – librarian image, which she tried to dispel by wearing flowery dresses and sporting a bouncy ponytail; only putting her hair into a tight bun when she'd slept in and hadn't had time to wash her hair.
A shadow crossed the head of the aisle between the stacks. Addie paused. Russell, her new and absolutely delicious looking assistant, stepped into the aisle. His chocolate brown eyes lit with delight as he spoke. "I was wondering where you were. Been looking all over for you."
Addie's toes tingled and she stifled a giggle. He was looking for me?
He reached down and grabbed the second stack of books. "I'll reshelve these and then I'm done for tonight."
Her giddiness morphed to sadness. "Off to a Halloween party?"
Russell chuckled. "Isn't it funny how we don't outgrow some childhood delights. A party is where I'm headed. I'll lock the door."
Addie watched as he disappeared down the main aisle headed towards science fiction.
She glanced at the romance book in her hand. Russell had to be only a year younger than her, but somehow he seemed older. He always laughed at her jokes and was a wonderful conversationalist. If only she wasn't his boss. Maybe. Just maybe.
She placed the Do-It-Yourself book on the shelf and gripped the romance as she wandered back to the romance section. Memories of romantic and passionate heroes flitted through her mind. She paused on her favourite, Heathcliff. Nice glass of wine. Some romantic music and a little Wuthering Heig — aah!
She jumped then scolded herself. The noise was probably Russell shutting the big back door and locking it. Locking her into her library. She was alone. With her books. Her stories. Her imaginary lovers. She stuffed the romance into its place then did a quick check of the doors to ensure they were locked and the tables to see if they were empty.
A shiver ran down her spine. The hairs on her arms stood up. Turning slowly, Addie caught just a glimpse of the shadow that slipped past the end of the row of books. Squaring her shoulders, she marched in the direction of the intruder. Someone in her library after hours – so not going to happen.
The soft carpeting muffled her steps making sneaking up behind the miscreant easier, but alas, it muffled his steps as well. She wandered along the main passageways peeking left and right down dark rows of books. At the end of a reference row, she saw just a snippet of the shadow.
Addie quickened her pace. Rounding the corner of the reference section, she stopped. Her hand flew to her mouth to stifle a gasp. In the reading lounge, someone had moved the chairs and tables and laid a bright orange and black checked tablecloth on the floor. A bright, grinning Jack-o-lantern rested next to a vase with one white rose. Two filled champagne flutes rested beside a box of chocolates.
She stepped closer as she glanced about the area. Out of the corner of her eye she watched him step out of the shadow. It was Russell.
“I hope you don’t mind that I took the liberty?” He pointed to the impromptu picnic.
Her heart skipped a beat as she crossed her hands on her chest.
With Prophecy's Child tucked under her arm and while juggling all the other items, Addie pulled her wand out of her pocket and swished herself home for a quiet night’s read.
Happy Halloween.

Yea - I confess - the kids aren't getting any. I promised myself I'd only eat one bag. Don't ask!
Happy Halloween and happy M&M munching.

Spotlight on latest release by Melissa Keir - Chalkboard Romance
What Would You Do Without Teachers?
Teachers have come under fire in recent years about the “dumbing down” of America. The United States no-longer has the top students in the world, especially in Math and Science. Teachers are over-paid, with too many days off, and don’t provide engaging lessons where students can learn. It’s all the teacher’s fault. But my question for you would be, where would the world be without teachers? When I was in college, they were talking about robotic teachers or computer teachers where each student could be logged in on a computer and learn at their own pace at their own time. The students would engage with only a computer. We also had classes that were given by video feed. A group of students sit together in a classroom to watch a video feed of a teacher from another location. Students are able to interact with the teacher through the simultaneous video feed. While these might be some wonderful opportunities for older students, I don’t see how this will work at the elementary level.
Are parents willing to let robots or nanny cams be the driving force in their child’s lives? I know it’s hard on snow days when the school closes for safety or to see a teacher getting summer’s off, but I also know most parents go crazy after one snow day with their three children, imagine how it would be to have 20-40 students who are unable to go outside because of wind chill or rain, trapped in a classroom for days on end. Do you know how to make each and every lesson engaging and interesting to all the different students in a class? Most parents tell me on a daily basis that they couldn’t do my job, even for a million dollars. Teachers aren’t perfect and there are many who are horrible teachers, but I can’t imagine a child left in a box all day or only interacting on a computer. Facial expressions and body language tell us so much and children learn to read them from teachers.
Computers can’t teach a child to tie their shoes. It can’t give a hug when the child isn’t feeling well. It can’t pick a child up when they slip on icy walks or teach them how to enjoy a subject that they find challenging. All those personal things are being done by teachers every day. Teachers are also spending their own money to buy supplies for their classroom, teaching children how to get along with others as well as bandaging boo-boos. Teachers’ earn their money by wiping runny noses, forming lasting bonds with students and falling in love with your children. In many cases, they spend more time with your child on a daily basis than parents do. They become second parents, sounding boards and provide moral compasses for children who need to be loved.
Where would we be without teachers? Maybe we will be smarter, or more tech-savvy, but we won’t be as friendly or as personable. Our social skills and communication would decrease. Those key traits that help us solve problems and get along with others.~~~~~~~~~~~~~Chalkboard Romance tells the tale of a one night stand that causes ripples throught the small town community when elementary teacher, Lauren Walsh falls for Mac Thomas, a parent of one of her students. BLURB:Chalkboard Romance by Melissa KeirWill a One Night Stand prove to be their disaster or their salvation?Lauren Walsh, a divorcee and elementary teacher, wants to feel sexy again after her ex tosses her aside for a younger woman. Her best friend encourages her to sign up for The Playhouse--a renowned dating agency. Forced to stay away from his young son, Mac Thomas lost the ability to trust. After the death of his wife, he returned to care for his son but his sister wants more for him. She sets him up with The Playhouse. Passion ignites but Mac’s a parent of one of Lauren’s students. A teacher and a parent dating could cost Lauren her job and her chance at happiness. Will Mac be able to convince the school and Lauren, that love is the most important thing?EXCERPT:Lauren could tell Todd felt right at home in the saddle. He had a way with the animals from the big gelding to the tiny, newborn barn cat. He not only loved animals but looked like he enjoyed caring for them. This was a side of Todd she could use. Maybe he could help with the fish in the library or share his love of animals with the students. The other children deserved to see this side of Todd, rather than the one who’s always frustrated.Lauren let her gaze roam over Todd. He’s such a sweet kid. Getting to know a different side of him by spending the day together has been great. She enjoyed the tranquility of the ride. Her horse, Comanche, walked slowly making her feel very comfortable. Besides, she had the best view of Mac’s backside. He did look great in the saddle.“Lauren, you’re a natural rider,” Mac said sounding amazed as he pulled his horse up next to hers.“I used to ride each week at the local stables but when I left for college, the stable closed. I haven’t ridden in years. I guess it’s like bike riding, you never forget.” Smiling, Lauren ran her hand along her horse’s neck. Mac picked the perfect horse for her. His gentle walk and spirit helped her relax. The sunny weather yet cool temps made the ride even more enjoyable. Beautiful scenery filled their ride. Todd loved pointing out the different animals he saw.“Todd, you’re so good with the animals. Do you think you’d like to help take care of the fish in the library? I know Mr. Stevens could use some help.”“Wow. Could I? I’d love to.” Todd’s smile filled his face, reminding her of Mac’s. She noticed the similarities, now she could see them next to each other.“I also thought maybe you can do a report for the class on horses. A lot of the girls love horses but don’t know as much as you do. Maybe teach us all something. Would you like to share your knowledge with the class?”Todd’s smile grew bigger. “Dad, will you help me with the report?”When Todd looked toward his father, Lauren could see his smile fade. That’s interesting. Worry and hope filled Todd’s pleading eyes. “Of course, buddy. I’d love to help. No worries. Maybe we can get Grandpa to take some photos of his horses so you can put them into the report.”Lauren continued to watch Todd’s expression. She noticed the change immediately when Mac agreed. Todd appeared to need the validation of his father’s support and attention. She filed the information away for another time. There’s a lot she was learning today about the puzzle that is Todd. She climbed off her horse, gave him a nuzzle on his neck, and helped the guys put the horses into the barn.Mac walked over and put his arm around Lauren as they watched Todd playing with the kittens again. “You’re really good with Todd. What did you see I didn’t?”“Todd waits for your approval before he commits to something. He wants you to accept him. I’m sure a part of it’s because of your wife’s death. Loss profoundly impacts a child. I’ve been so worried about Todd because of his frustration. He lashes out in school.”“I know what you mean. I’ve seen similar things at home. I wish life had been different for him, but I just couldn’t live up to Claire’s needs. My son became the one to suffer.”“The good news is kids are resilient. Todd’s a wonderful young man. I think with your interest in him and school, he’ll be okay. Although, you may want to consider counseling. It’ll help to have someone else for him to talk with and maybe help with the frustration. Can you imagine being upset but not knowing how to put your feelings into words? That’s what’s going on with Todd.”“He’s lucky to have a wonderful teacher like you.” Mac embraced Lauren, holding her body tightly against his.Lauren could feel his breath on her cheek and smelled the odors of the barn. “I’ll never forget this moment.”“Nor should you.” A strange male voice piped in.Heat filled Lauren’s face. Oh, no. Who’s this? She pulled away from Mac’s arms.

In middle school and high school, Melissa used to write sappy love poems and shared them with her friends and still has those poems today! In college her writing changed to sarcastic musings on life as well as poems with a modern twist on fairy tales and won awards for her writing. You can find many of these musings along with her latest releases on her website and blog.
As a writer, Melissa likes to keep current on topics of interest in the world of writing. She’s a member of the Romance Writers of America, Mid-Michigan RWA Chapter, and EPIC. She is always interested in improving her writing through classes and seminars.

About the Author: Melissa Keir has always wanted to be an author when she wasn’t hoping for a career as a race car driver. Her love of books was instilled by her mother and grandparents who were avid readers. She’d often sneak books away from them so that she could fantasize about those strong alpha males and plucky heroines.
Melissa doesn’t believe in down time. She’s always keeping busy. Melissa is a wife and mother, an elementary school teacher, a book reviewer, an editor for a publishing company as well as an author. Her home blends two families and is a lot like the Brady Bunch, without Alice- a large grocery bill, tons of dirty dishes and a mound of laundry. She loves to write stories that feature happy endings and is often seen plotting her next story.

Link back to WWWFrom Dancing in Circles - NA contemporary romance - Robert's first few days at an upper class prep school are not going well. A classmate just told a bold lie about Robert's behaviour in biology class. Robert called him out on it.
"You calling me a liar?" Derek lunged towards Robert. With a bored expression on his face, Robert didn't move."Derek, get back in your seat." The Principal's voice boomed across the room. Two police officers stood near him.Robert snorted in disgust. "I don't believe this.""Would you come with me, please?" Although Mr. Morris made it sound like a question, Robert understood it was an order. He shook his head and crossed the room.
