This week on Friday Snippets - Circles Divided #FridaySnippets
From the Opening of book 2 from Circles Trilogy - Circles Divided
Isn't it great to be in love? Julie stifled a giggle as she snuck a sideways peek at Robert. With his focus on the road, she could revel in the vision of his long lashes, framing dark coal coloured eyes. Eyes that seemed to peer right through to her heart. Her gaze traced the outline of his strong chin and mouth, which broke into an easy grin each time he saw herIt had been a crazy few weeks since he appeared in her biology class. The new kid in the school was from North Shore and to a Westlander, like herself, that wasn't good. But she'd looked past his heritage and found a compassionate and loving man hidden under the shell of a Shoresmen gang member. Somehow, they'd broken laws of chemistry, and oil and water combined to make passionate love.
Robert glanced across the cab at Julie, gripped the steering wheel with his left hand and held out his right. She interlaced her fingers with his and smiled. He loved her. She loved him. They'd finish at Westland Prep in a few weeks and then go off to university together. She didn't have to pursue her dance career. It was just a childhood fantasy. Being a professional dancer would make it tough to have a relationship when she would always be travelling to other parts of the country or the world. There had to be something at university she could major in. What did she like besides dancing? Julie yawned and stretched, pointing her toes. I do have a beautiful pointe. And dancer's feet."Are we there, yet?" Ashley's voice cut through the silence in the minivan.Julie turned to face her youngest sister. "Not much longer." Movement in the back row caught her attention. Annoying brother, Jason pushed equally exasperating sister, Sheila, who shoved him back."Get off my side." Sheila stuck her tongue out."I'm not on your side, I'm on my side." Jason scrunched his face and glared at his sister.Julie rolled her eyes. "Cut it out, you two." Chuckling, she smiled at Robert. "The animals are getting restless."He checked the rear-view mirror and shook his head."You ask him.""No you, Sheila.""You're the big brother, Jason, you ask him.""No. You.""Ask'im what?" Robert called from the driver's seat.
Is the love of a girl from wealthy Westland and a street punk from the slums of the Shore strong enough to surpass all that life will throw at them and forge a life together? Is Julie willing to sacrifice her childhood dream of becoming a professional dancer for the man she loves? Is Robert willing to lay down his ties to the gang in order to hold onto his new found love?
Sacrifices must be made, but will they be enough?

Thursday Thoughts - Old school cookie recipe - Waldorfs
This week's recipe is an old, old recipe I learned from my mother when I was little. I've always loved to bake and my mother was wonderful enough to let me mess up her kitchen. I have no idea where she got this recipe. It's hand written on a very baking stained card. Now, I know the picture is a Snickerdoodle (best named cookie in the world :-) ), but it's as close as I could find to what a Waldorf looks like. Why don't I have a picture of a Waldorf? Simple. They don't last long enough for me to get my camera and take a photo. Somehow they just magically disappear!
My husband and daughter claim no knowledge of this occurrence.
This recipe uses nuts - I've never tried it without. No one in my family has nut issues.
Which is the best nut to use - I've tried walnuts and pecans. Pecans just make it taste like you are dining with royalty.
This recipe is 50 yrs old at least. It would have been made with whole milk, and real sour cream, plus all purpose flour. I don't mess with that. Those are what I use.
Waldorfs
Preheat oven to 400
Line Cookie sheets - parchment or the silicon sheets works great
SERIOUS NOTE - when baking these - stay close - they burn easily and it's a shame to ruin these fabulous old school cookies.
Ingredients
1/2 c butter
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
1 c sour cream - don't use sour milk - these cookies want the extra fat
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups flour (all purpose or pastry flour)
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg (this is probably the most important ingredient - when you taste them you'll understand)
1 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)
Cream butter and sugar. Mix wet ingredients in a separate bowl. Add to butter. Sift dry ingredients together. Add to wet. Mix in nuts. Drop onto cookie sheets. They don't spread so you can get 3 across easily.
Reminder - watch these - they can burn in a blink.
Next Thursday's Recipe - One Pot Taco

Blurb:
Dani Finklemeier has decided to write a self-help book about how to take over the world, but she’s not sure where to start. After all, she’s only seventeen and looking for a better way to make money than babysitting. She buys a self-help book that promises to teach her how to write a self-help book in the hope of getting the job done.
Not that it’ll be easy to get any work done this holiday season. Her family is staying at the house for Christmas, and fights break out almost immediately. Dani also has to deal with the fallout from an unexpected kiss with her best friend Seth and the feelings that go along with it. On edge around her family and unsure how to interact with the one person she’s trusted with everything in the past, she can only take what inspiration she can from the crazy circumstances surrounding her and see what happens.
One way or another, it should be an interesting holiday.

From Dancing in Circles - Julie disobeys the Principal's order on Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday
Link back to WWWFrom Dancing in Circles - NA contemporary romanc. After racing out of the room, Julie goes in search of Robert and is shocked at what she discovers.
As Julie searched for Robert's locker, she turned a corner and stumbled to a stop. Robert was spread-eagled against the wall being frisked by one officer as the other inspected his belongings."Go back to class." Mr. Morris pointed down the hallway."No, sir." Having never disobeyed a Principal before, she forced her voice to stay calm. "I can't believe this. I was in bio, nothing happened."
Blurb – One born into privilege and a charmed life surrounded by love and family. The other born to a life of violence on the streets as the solemn gang leader of the notorious Shoresmen. A young, idealistic co-ed, Julie, meets a jaded, cold gang member, Robert, and cracks his icy shell, allowing the warmth of her love to awaken his soul.
Amazon
5 Stars - Author Victoria Adams does an excellent job at bringing characters to life. I really enjoyed living through Julie's dream of becoming a dancer and her connection with Robert. Yeah, Robert may have gotten himself in the wrong crowd, but he really does portray a compassionate person and in the end he really does grow on you. Can't wait to see the next one in the series!

This week’s theme: While You Were Sexy or maybe a bit quirky My Sexy Saturday #MySexySaturday #MSS117
Welcome to the 117thweek of My Sexy Saturday.
This week’s theme: While You Were Sexy
This week’s theme is a take on the movie, While You Were Sleeping, and can be fun, quirky or not. So many things can happen while you were sexy…things like falling in love with someone other than your boyfriend/girlfriend…or maybe taking a risk you wouldn’t normally take.
Hmmm - tough one this week. I've never watched - While You Were Sleeping. But I can go with a bit quirky.
From my sweet romance- Red Tulip - scene set - Darcy has agreed to dinner at Shamus' home. Turns out it's a mansion.
"A red balloon?" A giggle tinted my voice."To mark the start of our courtship." He lowered his head for a moment. "If you'd care to pursue one?""Let's call me intrigued at the moment, and see where this takes us."Off in the distance, a discreet cough resonated. "Dinner is served."Shamus smiled and held out his hand towards the door. "Shall we?"Glancing down at my work clothes, I cringed. "I'm not really dressed for eating in a place like this. I'm more the takeout food type."Shamus raised one eyebrow. "Then I guess I have a surprise for you."

A snippet from NA contemporary romance- A Guy and A Girl on Friday Snippets #FridaySnippets
This week's Friday Snippet is from A Guy and A Girl
Scene Set - Hunter has taken Chelsea home with him to his parent's in Ontario at a National Park.
Hunter surfaced beside her. "What'ca looking for? Nobody around here." He pulled her under.Sputtering she surfaced and stood, water running down her face. "Okay, this is where I point out that I grew up in the city. In large bodies of water with concrete sides, pretty blue and white tiles and gallons of chlorine."He floated on his back. "You can swim, right?""I took all my swimming badges. I was a guppy, then a star fish. I made it to porpoise."Hunter pulled her close. Her nearly naked, dripping wet body was a magnet to him. "I have no idea what you're talking about and I don't care."His mouth locked on hers as his hands slid over her wet skin. He knelt down in the water and kissed her belly, just above her bikini bottom. With the same little licks that Chelsea used on his stomach, he worked his way up to her swim suit top. Kissing her chest, his mouth lowered to the bare fleshy mounds. He slipped his fingers under the band and raised her top."What? Ah!" Chelsea screamed and reacted so fast she knocked Hunter back. When he surfaced and shook the water off, she was standing on the big rock on the shore."What?""Something...touched me.""That would've been me.""No, my leg. Something swam by and touched my leg. There's something in there."Chuckling Hunter ran his fingers through his hair and when he'd relaxed enough he climbed out of the water. "Too much nature in one day, eh?""What do you mean?""You can get off the rock and come here. Gawd, you're so city."
Lies, deceits and secrets - not a good way to begin a relationship. After an ugly past forced Hunter Connolly to escape to Europe, the talented hockey player is back in North America and determined to land a position with a professional team. But he can’t hide from his past forever, especially when his beautiful classmate, Chelsea, forces him to reexamine his life. Thurdays Ramblings - A quick and Simple go to - Chicken Pot Pie
My ramblings for Nov are going to be recipes. Why? Just because. Today's recipe is a simple Chicken Pot Pie. I make 3 or 4 of these at a time and freeze most of them. Keeping 1 for dinner - lol. It takes about an hour in a 350 oven to reheat a frozen one, so it's a super go to meal on a busy night.
Most of my recipes are from scratch, but this is a cheat recipe. It uses a can of soup, frozen veggies and I use premade pie shells.
If - ever - there is a time when I'm really bored, I'll make the pie shells from scratch.
Note - the can of soup flavour - I suggested 4 different ones - they all work and it depends on your taste - but it has to be "Cream of..."
Also - please note - I'm not an expert at writing out recipes - I'm a romance writer. So if there's an issue - let me know and if you don't understand - ask.
Where did I get this recipe? Who knows I've had it for well over a decade.
Chicken Pot Pie
Ingredients
2 premade pie shells - thawed
1 can soup (Cream of Potato, Cream of Celery, Cream of Chicken, Cream of Mushroom)
1 cup Frozen veggies - the mixed kind - carrots, peas corn
2 cups cooked diced chicken
Milk - 1/2 a soup can - add more if it seems really dry - shouldn't be sloppy
1/2 tsp thyme - adjust to taste
1/2 tsp pepper - adjust to taste
1 egg - beaten
Turn oven to 350. (Sorry I don't know what that is in the other measurements).
In a bowl mix all the ingredients from soup to pepper. Pour into 1 pie shell. Carefully place other pie shell on top. With a pastry brush, egg wash the beaten egg over the top of the pie crust.
Place in preheated oven and bake for 40 minutes.
Reheats great for leftovers.
This recipes is very forgiving. You can add and subtract things based on your personal preferences.

My November posting for the Insecure Writer's Support Group #IWSG
LINK BACK to the IWSG
Welcome to my November posting for ISWG. Where we: post our thoughts, talk about our doubts, any fears we may have conquered, discuss our struggles and triumphs, and offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling.
The writing is not going so well – uh – well to be truthful – not at all. I’m at sort of an impasse. I have a trilogy that I was thinking of shrinking down to 2 books – as book 2 is doing terrible – because no one ever likes the middle book. I’d never planned on a trilogy. But one of my cps said break the big first book into 2 and I ran with the idea. Smack into a wall.
I can’t make up my mind whether to do it or not, so I’m using that as an excuse not to write. How? Simple. If I start writing something then decide to recombine the first 2 books then all the time I spend on reworking the 2 books will get me out of my writing groove.
I will confess my writing groove isn’t exactly as deep as a groove – but at least sounds a lot cooler than my writing scratch.
So that’s where my securities are this day/week/month. Hopefully there’ll be better news next month. (Or I’ll have to come up with another excuse. Crap, shouldn’t have said that. Now I’ll probably spend the whole month working on my excuse. Le sigh!)
